sketch of my oc marnie, ramble under the cut

i made my oc marnie, short for morningstar, when i was around 17 years old.

she's the child of an angel who didnt quite understand procreation but loved her human father enough to sleep with him. this is quite rare in her world, as most angels generally know not to interact with humans beyond protecting them, but her mother was so lonely and lost in a way that even being in gods presence couldnt save her. her human partner made her feel like the center of the universe, but loving him caused her to fall from heaven. her whereabouts are currently unknown, and it can be assumed that she is overcome with shame.

her father, emotionally distant but loving, tried his best to raise her, but fell into a deep depression. marnie was legally empancipated by the time she was 16.

up until this point, ive only ever drawn her in extreme distress and pain. her angelic side behaves like both a chronic illness and psychological condition. her human side cannot handle the angelic side and so she's in constant pain, her eyes (which she has placed all around her body) burn, and her teeth (in the mouths also all around her body) ache. she can hear the voice of god near constantly but she cant decipher it. like an angel, she is unkillable, so her many suicide attempts dont work. its like she was doomed from the start.

or so she thought.

i realized today ive never drawn her happy. i have never drawn her "delivered," and ive never even thought about what joy could look like for her. so i started thinking, and sketching.

she can smile, too, i think. maybe the pain doesn't go away, maybe things don't get easier, but maybe they can get better.
