Summary: You are Pro-Hero Strife, and you have been done dirty by a former classmate over 12 years after graduating UA. Rin Kaneko, a.k.a. Aegis, STABBED you while visiting you in America during your mission, that she invited herself on, to steal evidence, therefore you must go to Japan to get even/arrest her. Hizashi is more than happy to set up a meeting with the Principal of UA for you; but in the aftermath of All Might losing his power requesting UA resources has complications. The most expected being Shouta Aizawa, someone you never thought you'd see again after you left.
Yet here you two are now, stuck together when you need him to stay away.
Word Count:3755
Naturally when your eyes and Shouta's locked together, the bitterness of this morning went to your stomach. If you're really above all these emotions holding you captive, then why must looking at him now make you tense up? There's nothing to be confused about— with what happened between the two of you. The sooner you force the wound back into closure the better your outcome will be today.
You decided to look away from him first. Not as a way to chicken out. Never; but he can't believe how he feels towards you now has an affect on you. After all, you're not children. He already knows he can't hide his reaction from you. Even if he wanted to— thanks to your quirk. Even then, you never considered his reaction to seeing you would be so visceral.
Which may be a problem, now that you think of it. How far would he go to boot you out?
Now that you had the floor, you have to be on your A-Game. Everyone in this room was stressed out one way or another. It didn't matter what drove it, it was all the same. Being engulfed in it did wonders for your body and your focus. The headache was there, but a Mac Truck was lifted off your shoulders. You can finally do your job.
A polite smile grew on your face. No matter where you go, you always treat everyone like a colleague. It didn't even matter if you knew them, or if anyone liked you. Good manners always pulled through to get what you needed. You recited lines, thanking the principal— that you totally remembered— for his introduction. Then you looked around the room, before saying: "Thank you all for your time today, as well! As said before, I am Pro-Hero Strife." You bowed, and regretted it immediately.
Nylon stitches pulled at your skin as a humbling reminder of what's keeping you together. Your eyes were wide, but you made no sound. The smile on your face dropped to the ground you stared at. You messed up. No blood gushed out of your wound, so you painted the smile back on your face then rose again.
"I'm in Japan because of an urgent matter. I have an investigation where I must request using UA resources." You rushed to let the fake joy slip at the end to become your more professional self. "I understand with the new circumstances the school is under, it may be a lot to ask, but—" it really wasn't a lot to ask, but this was the part of the red tape you had to cross to ask for stuff. "I wouldn't be if this was not important for the mission."
Hizashi gave you a quick thumbs up with the hand that was resting on the table where his and Eraserhead's met. If he were closer, you'd return the gesture, but with where you were standing it would've been spotted by Midnight and the tiny mouse Principal. You gave a subtle nod to Hizashi, and another wave went through you.
Automatically, you glanced over at Eraserhead. He was judging you, no doubt. His arms still crossed over his chest, underwhelmed by your routine. Right, because of all people, Shouta Aizawa most definitely knew you pulled this politeness out your ass. You waited for him to call you out, but no objection came from him.
A different man with a gruff voice spoke up instead. "It would be easier to make a decision if we had more information." This man had a serious underbite— and a little bit of a tone.
For the sake of the meeting, you decide to let it slide. There's a point to be had about agreeing to things without information. Heaven knows you got screwed over too many times because of that. So you answered, "I'm looking for someone who broke the law in America and then ran off to Japan."
"A villain?" All Might asked.
You thought for a second, but just settled for the truth. There's no way this couldn't have happened before. "In legal terms, yes… but the reason why I needed this meeting is because the circumstances are… not normal."
The phrasing caused some raise eyebrows with your old friends. " "Not normal" how," asked Nemuri.
"The perpetrator of many crimes is a Pro Hero— and a UA graduate. She goes by Aegis, legal name Kaneko Rin."
"KANEKO?!" Hizashi's jaw was on the floor, bright eyes visible past the lenses.
"Yes, I said that," you responded.
"Who is she," asked All Might.
"Isn't she…?"
"Our classmate," Shouta confirmed before Midnight could finish.
"Aegis was ranking on popularity polls starting a few years back. Last time I checked, she was still pretty popular, but she hasn't been in any interviews recently. She used to be a lot more involved … can't remember the last time I had the misfortune of seeing her face around" Hizashi leaned in his chair and rolled backward making Shouta scowl in his direction. "I used to sit next to her in class; she wouldn't even run in the hallway— what did she do?"
"Vandalism, aggravated assault, breaking and entering, threatening someone using the mail, attacking a pro hero, tampering with a crime scene, stealing evidence, and arson, as of now." Looks like your Japanese Legalese was still on point, the other heroes in the room looked surprised as well. Everyone else in the room was frozen in shock. It's clear they can't fathom a hero doing these things. Except, the principal, he scribbled in a notepad furiously.
The man with the cowboy hat spoke up. "Those are serious accusations."
"And are you sure she did all of this?" The albino goomba asked, but with the same tone as before. Like he was accusing you of something. What if what made your quirk this burned up wasn't Shouta at all? "These charges can ruin any hero's career."
The heroes in the room looked toward you. You'd tell the man, "I was there," but the vacant expressions on the staff told you wasn't enough. Even Hizashi was confused now. You needed to act before he speaks up about how much you left him in the dark. Before anything else was said, you picked up your briefcase, carrying it to the table. You placed it in front of Mic as he searched you for any shred of information. You do your best to ignore him. He was sitting too close to Eraserhead for you to show any cards. Hizashi's lips form a tight line, another layer of tension was added to your charge. You could apologize for ignoring him later. You pulled out chrome sphere from the contents of your case. Twisting the top off you roll it toward the center of the room behind you and press the button on the piece in your hand to turn the projector on.
"The investigation is ongoing. While I'm here, the crime scenes are still being investigated—" Cutting yourself off, you called out to the fully loaded projector in english, "Project: King Cobra. Subject: Medusa's Head, Slash 08KCRM3; Exhibit A through C." The projector menu pops open 3 windows of security footage.
The biggest window, on the left, shows the fight with a Cobra Kaiju. It emerged out of a chamber after Kaneko set off a trap while you two inspected what was left behind. It ate everything in sight, glass jars and syringes, empty crates, then the evidence. Crates full of quirk enhancer syrum made the kaiju grow from a Burmese Mountain Dog to the size of a school bus! You sprinted, 10-inch blade in hand to stop its consumption. Aegis shot a crystalline shard from her armor at it's body. The cobra shifted its attention then it rattled it's tail at Aegis before it struck! Thinking fast, you grabbed Kaneko by her waist to pull her out from its maw. You let her go at the last second and jumped into action against King Kaiju.
Jumping on top of it proved unsuccessful as it threw you, full force into the wall, hitting your head on the plaster. You were the tank in this match up, you knew you could take the brunt of the damage. You hit the wall a few times trying several plans, while Aegis fumbled around for a bit, but who's counting.
The fight was over when you ripped a fang the length of your elbow to your finger tips. The kaiju hissed in pain as Aegis trapped its tail to the ground with jeweled armor. Before it could break free, you pierced the snake— cutting through its head with its own tooth.
Your heart was pounding. Your armor CRACKED. You were out of breath, but Aegis was barely scathed.
It irked you to think this was part of her plan.
The top right showed you and Aegis entering the factory at the beginning of the mission. Gold Rush was supposed to be your partner, his speed with your strength made for an elite pairing. Yet, Aegis insisted on swapping out with him. Gold had no issues with the change, you figured it was because he would be able to cover a raid in a more metropolitan area. A more likely chance people can capture him taking down "baddies" and saving the day.
Since Aegis's quirk didn't give her a speed boost like you and Gold, you had to drive to the desolated Cult of Cobra hideout in one of the agencies cars (your own car was far too precious to bring to a crime scene). The entire drive Aegis was tense. You thought the tension was the normal worry heroes feel toward a mission. The surge spiked when you left the car though. Seconds after Aegis started talking, something about missions back at Japan. You knew what she was trying to do. Asking you in the polite, round-about way to come back with her to Japan, as she had been since she got here. She never seemed to grasp that you had no business leaving the country now!
Ever since news of All Might's last fight against a villain from the Dark Ages, crime has been on the rise everywhere; and it's barely been a WEEK! Villain groups have been organizing, more quirk enhancement drugs are being pushed out on the street, and multiple gang wars across the nation have broken out! It'd be stupid and irresponsible to leave. Even if this wasn't happening, you couldn't afford a last minute trip across the globe like Rin could with her brand deals. Your income solely came from heroism and proctoring for hero exams every three months.
So, you played the "ignorant American" role and brushed it off as a silly idea, then went inside. The joke was on you, after all. She got what she wanted, as show in the bottom left footage. Rin Kaneko was captured hobbling out of the factory due to a injured leg, hunched over a bag in a less than glamorous fashion. Very unbecoming of her. Inside the bag was the cobra fang you ripped out.
Blood spilled out her mouth, from the broken ribs she earned when she lunged at you. Footage D would've showed the recording from the agency vehicle that was recovered. It showed Aegis doubling over. Long, black hair sticking to her face as she coughed blood into the grass pathetically before she stole the car and drove off, leaving you to bleed out. It wouldn't be a good look for you in this situation.
"There has to be more," the man with white hair argued. See, nothing would satisfy this guy! Do you have to show the footage of her bladed armor stabbing through you as well? "If she committed the crime in America, then how would you know that she decided to come to Japan? And why isn't there a red notice."
"There's no Red Notice because we don't know what access Kaneko has to those systems. To catch her, I can't announce myself until I get permission from the Hero Public Safety Commission to work. As for more evidence, Kaneko sent a post card while I was in the infirmary. It's being analyzed further by the United States Postal Inspection Service, but it was uploaded into the system." You commanded the sphere to show the letter. It's been a while since you have seen kanji, but no doubt at the end it was signed Kaneko Rin.
I would apologize for the damage, but you need to listen to what I'm saying next time. I can explain myself overseas if you listen to me.
All Might read it out loud before asking what it meant. It was read to you while you were temporarily bedridden in the infirmary. The Medic told you she shouldn't clear you, but then the news showed your apartment burning down on LIVE TV. She changed her mind. agreeing to hold off on serious testing until everything was over. She sent your blood samples to the lab, and gave you her quirk-enhanced food to heal you up.
"The general working theory is set a fire to an apartment building cover up her tracks, while the agency dealt with the fallout. The fire is being investigated further as well."
"This all feels too convenient. Aegis ran off with evidence from a mission she shouldn't have been working, went to the apartment building to get her stuff, sent a letter to the agency within the day, and made it to Japan, while you were in the infirmary for all that time?" You perk up hearing this from the man. While you knew what he was alluding to, you had to admit he said something that's been plaguing your mind since you were on the plane. With the broken ribs and jacked up leg, it would be hard for her to pull off everything on her own. If someone else was involved, it could be possible she was coerced into this plan.
"Man! What is your problem?" Mic asked clearly agitated. "You asked for evidence, she gave you evidence. That is clearly Aegis, in those video. That letter has "Kaneko Rin" on it saying she is responsible for damage— what more do you want!"
"Why a hero would go overseas to commit several crimes and come back? And it's too convenient that Strife just so happens to have an alibi; but if we are to look past all of this, there is no way that letting Strife investigate here is a good idea. That's going to invite more problems for UA and our students!"
You open your mouth to argue back, but Nemuri cut you off. "Vlad has a point."
It was a punch to the gut.
She's taking HIS side?
A sudden flash of indescribable emotions washed over you like waves over a rock. You were forced to stand there, hoping you seemed underwhelmed by your friend taking the side against you. Midnight continued, "even if there's evidence, that's not the topic of this meeting. Our responsibility right now is as teachers," those words crashed over you. "And as teachers there's a reason why we don't bring hero work on campus."
"Regardless of whether or not you take the deal, my job is to report Kaneko to the Hero Public Safety Commission and confirm the Red Notice. I want to keep this quiet, but if the media already has it's foot on UA's neck, and they find out a former student went rogue, and you knew about it, they'll knock on your door." you said calmly.
"Is that a threat?"
Turning to the white haired man— Vlad, you shake your head slowly. "No. That's how media works. It's always the same," you said unable to hide the tide of vomit burning in your throat. As a hero, two things you learned to hate was gross negligence and reporters shoving their stupid cameras in people's faces.
"Another angle to consider is if students see her coming and going then that would raise questions. An investigation would cause more chaos," added the cowboy man. It would be awful to admit that scenario sounded wonderful for you health wise. "Tensions are high as it is." Out of all things, you never considered the possibility these teachers would care about the students this much...
"Not to mention there'll be an uproar when Aegis's charges are made public. Especially now with the current condition of hero society,” All Might’s words drifted off. You knew what he meant all too well.
"Not to mention the provisional license exam in two weeks. They need to be on the top of their game," Eraserhead added finally deciding to contribute… Then when you turned to him, a light bulb flickered above your head like a halo. There was a time when you wanted to show him everything you knew about combat. "Your students are taking test early?" You asked the person once referred to as your "disciple".
"Yes. They were training for the exam before the League of Villains invaded the camp." You had no clue who the League of Villain's were, outside of the fact they are clearly not very creative with names, but they inadvertently gave you an opportunity.
You look between the two homeroom teachers as the wonderful new plan unfolded."That sounds terrible. I'm sorry that happened." You said with caring disposition practiced many times over to show courteous sympathy. Softened eyes and slightly pouted lips. You put your attention on Vlad, the one who's made your headache worse since this meeting started. He was the first to mention the students, so it's best to pull on his heartstrings first. "Are your students doing better," you asked.
Vlad closed his eyes and turned away from you, stirred by his emotions—whatever they are. It was weird seeing a teacher who cared. Of course the situation wasn't good. A villain attack is horrible for any student to handle, you should know— and hopefully the students are good NOW; but… you have to do your job and he was getting in your way. The charge in your body dampened. "Now that the students are settled in their dorms. They need to focus."
Good… good. You can work with this.
Moving away from Vlad you went back toward your suitcase on the intersection of Mic and Aizawa. Aizawa nodded in agreement with the other homeroom teacher, yet kept his focus on you. Waiting for your next move.
Flipping open the case again, you thumbed through the contents until a familiar folder came up. You pulled out some paperwork, straining your eyes to scan the page then handed it to the Principal. "A fact about me is I judged the Federal American Hero License Exams about 25 times. I have official documentation of my time with a list of contacts in four separate state departments. They are in English, but if you need them in Japanese, I can request it to be faxed when the offices are opened." You handed the paperwork over to the mouse with both hands before addressing the teachers. "I believe we can make an arrangement that benefits the students, if you let me conduct my investigation here. Above everything else, I promise to keep the investigation discreet."
"There is no way in hell I'm letting that happen!" Vlad yelled. "I don't know what type of game you're trying to play, but you are not allowed to go near my students."
"Excuse me?"
"Stop with the innocent act, I know exactly the type of person you are"
You heart was beating out your chest! What the hell could he mean by that? You never met this guy until today. The only emotion you allowed yourself to show was confusion, scrunching your face like he told you he saw you whipping up crack in a Walmart parking lot. Did you forget him like you did with the principal? Even if you did, there was no way he could have much on you outside of regular teenage stuff.
Unless if he knew about your quirk!
"You picked a fight with a Pro-Hero before," Vlad accused, rising from his chair. "That day you caused a forest fire—!"
Your blood went cold. Despite wanting to jump for it, you can't look defensive now. It's not like he confirmed anything for sure. Whatever he thinks, you could spin this—
"Vlad, Calm down," Eraserhead interjected. An aggravated sigh left him. Vlad looked as shocked as you were. "You're talking about the camp incident? Maybe you forgot, but our teachers resolved a long time ago. That Pro-Hero you're referring to mistreated MULTIPLE students while chaperoning camp— he had no business being around children and was asked to leave. The forest fire happened because students heard the commotion and overreacted due to the heat.”
"And what about all those other fights with students in the later years?"
You were going to answer but your head was still reeling. Even if the animosity wasn't from your former friend, you didn't think he would defend you with the same cover story from all those years ago. Regardless of what he feels, Aizawa really could take secrets to the grave.
Surprisingly, the principal spoke up in your defense as well. "Strife's combative stage was resolved while in school, of course. I believe Strife's overall conduct today was stellar. She had more patience then even I had thought was possible!"
Did the principal just sneak-diss you? You wanted to accept the compliment, but what did he expect you to act like? Did he think you'd punch Vlad in the neck? C’mon, you were a crappy teenager, but you wouldn’t have done that!
The principal stood on the table and addressed you. "As for the proposal, I think it would be a wonderful idea for our students! Of course, I will leave the final decision up to the staff, more notably to our homeroom teachers," he turning to Vlad and Eraserhead. Silence fell on the room as the staff thought of any concerns they had for why you shouldn't be here, but none of them opposed their boss's judgment.
Vlad took a deep breath of his own. “I’m sorry for getting worked up, Nezu,” he bowed. Letting your mask slip, you rolled your eyes. "Despite everything, I don't trust Strife to be around my students. It's my job as their teacher to keep them safe." Vlad finished his bow and sat down.
"Aizawa, what do you think of the arrangement?" The principal asked him.
Before you thought of what you could do to convince Eraserhead to accept the deal he answered. "Works for me."
Guys, while researching what a Japanese homeroom teacher is supposed to do for my Aizawa fic (because the Reader was also in Class A with Aizawa, Mic and Oboro, and she DESPISES their homeroom teacher for many reasons), it made me realize how shitty the Class A teacher truly was
Your one job is to be there and counsel the students in your class. Your ONE class. And Mr. Guy-Man didn’t think “hey maybe my two students that witnessed their close friend’s tragic death on the field before they graduated would need extra support/guidance”???

A/N: It took a month of preparation, but I'm finally ready to start posting the remaster for Retrospective! I'm extremely proud of myself for starting again. I hope you all enjoy!
When you graduated high school, you thought you were free. Now, you were back in the building AGAIN! To make matters even worse, you were lost. One could say that it's only natural when you haven't been a student in over a dozen years. You certainly were hoping to leave a majority of your memories in the rear view. However, universe likes to laugh at your expense. A harsh lesson about growing up: don't you dare get too comfortable anywhere. If you do, you will regret it soon enough. People who call you "too uptight" obviously hasn't experienced being stabbed in the gut, getting a concussion from being slammed against a wall at mock speeds, or having your living area burned down for the second time in 10 years.
All of this happened because when you were settling in your current agency after one year was over and no coworkers tried to break the Geneva Convention over a slight, you had the arrogance to say "you know what, I want to take a break from moving around too much". You were so over-confident you even renewed the lease on your apartment. Then the universe sent a comedian your way! Former friend, and fellow UA alumni, Rin Kaneko, or "Aegis" if you want to stay professional. She reached out to you, conversation progressed, and then that woman chose to be the metaphorical and literal thorn in your side.
She brought you back to this god-forsaken school to get barked at by security. A man with a dog-quirk, by the way. You handed the man a stack of documents and licenses the width of two fingers, along with showing him an email sent from Present Mic. Despite your string of misfortune, Hizashi still was fond of you enough to set up a meeting with the Principal of this school. The meeting will determine whether UA will help you fight to keep your job.
From what Hizashi told you, UA had to deal with its own comedians from the universe from the start of this year. Villain attacks have gotten so bad they had to create dorms and bulk up security to prevent any more to keep the students safe. No kidding. UA was Fort Knox, now in comparison to the playground during your time as a student. The remodel extended to the school building as well, making this place a MAZE! In the email, Hizashi didn't give you directions. He just told you a room number and said good luck before sending it to you apparently.
You've been stumbling around cluelessly for who knows how long at this point. Luckily, it was August meaning no students can see you. Unfortunately, it also came with a down side. No people around means no fuel for your quirk to burn. Nausea made your head spin, and it was clear whatever medicine was taken did little to help the throbbing and instability of your ankle. You were running on empty from your encounter with security. If you were to faceplant in the first floor, it's a cold comfort knowing no one will see you.
There's no reason you should be like this, really.
It's been two days since Aegis got away after your last mission. She went with you during her vacation time and you fought of a Cobra Kaiju, which should've been a red flag in hindsight. You don't remember if you sprained your ankle from the creature or when Aegis attacked you afterward. However, when your ankle didn't stop you she grew a crystal spike out of her armor and had no reservations about stabbing you through your torso to grab evidence from you. The wound should be on the mend now. Instead warmth expected from your spinal cord was now focused in all the worst place. Outside of the pained, swollen injuries, you were freezing in your armor. Swallowing back nausea, you concentrated on your spine. Hoping for any spark you could chase after.
What you would do to feel a little bit better?
While tempered the heat was not completely gone. You fought through the pain Kaneko left behind. Irritation gripped you like you did your phone. The screen was too bright as you reread the email Hizashi sent. You should be grateful. You really should. As soon as you could, you planned to pay him back. But would it kill him to include directions or a diagram of where you are supposed to be?
You huffed, not breaking your stride. You already scaled multiple staircases on a sprained ankle, and narrowly skipped slipping both up and down the stairs. Thank goodness for railings. You opened your messenger app and clicked the icon with the picture of Hizashi and you and started typing away for him to tell you where to go.
Then you felt it.
Someone in distress— the spark you needed!
You rushed through the halls as best as you could, going back and forth across the second floor. All to chase the charge you needed to stand firmly on your own, you were a parasite seeking a host. You turned the corner, excited for someone to fuel off of and to give you directions to this meeting room, but your smile dropped when you stopped in front of doors with large, red print. Class 1-A. Hero Course…
The sign got blurry and moved further away. You swallowed. Get a hold of yourself, Strife. Lightning was coursing through you again because of whoever was on the other side of that door. You needed an advantage just to get through your day. The pain inside you dwindled in less than ten seconds You lifted your hand to knock, unable to see through the translucent window. However, your fingers twitched open before they can make a fist. The red text was blurred as you went for it again. Here goes nothing.
You always had a habit of knocking like the police threatening to break down a door, so you twisted your hand around. You knocked in small thuds with the back of your hand.
The door slid opened. You were ready to give a preplanned introduction, but your eyes landed on a scarf. Gray, way too big to ever be fashionable. A custom-made, one-of-a-kind weapon. Carbon-steel alloy, only to be cut with a special knife found on this man's utility belt. A collage of pieces came together. Pale skin, torn sleeves, long hair, all black outfit that's hardly changed since high school.
Memories collided into one another akin to atoms making up early morning training sessions, tree lined neighborhoods you never belonged in, the cold metal cart from a 24-hour store. You heard your name and your brain was dowsed in kerosene.
Shit.
Shouta's really standing in front of you.
"It's been awhile." After all this time that's all you could muster? It was nice to see he's still alive; but you weren't prepared to see him breathing after all this time. A messed up thought for sure. You tilted your head, trying not to stare at the peach-tone rift below his eye. A sign of a close call. Recently, too. A possibility where you wouldn't be speaking with him today. Yet you were both here.
Frozen in the twist life has thrown at you both. You were unsure if Japanese etiquette allows for greeting old friends with a hug.
The golden sky behind Shouta illuminated the room around him. Like a halo. The light would've hurt your eyes in your concussed state if he weren't standing in front of it— and if dormant memories weren't flashing through your brain like explosions in the sky.
"What are you doing here?" Shouta asked, his voice was harsh. A shock went down your spine and you woke up on the cold concrete. The wake of destruction you once left behind. Shouting at the fissures until your voices were raw, then storming off when the sky smelled like rain. Hoping for any indication of warmth from a void, and being severely disappointed.
You took a step back from the doorway, but kept your head held high with perfectly practiced poise in a damaged uniform. "I'm here for work," you stated matter of fact. The man in front of you didn't respond to your declaration. Deciding now was as good as ever to get what you came for, you pulled up your phone. Gloves made it harder to rush in your password, but when you finally lifted the screen to his eye level, he squinted at the screen with tired eyes. Still nothing? Five seconds passed and he's still reading it. You peered over the edge, the email was still in English. You clicked around for it to translate to kanji then shoved it in his view again.
Another noticeable current of electricity went down your back, a second after Shouta hummed in response to what he read. "So the early meeting is because of you then?"
Why is he trying to blame you for the meeting time? Is that all he got out of the email chain with Hizashi? Your nerves were getting hotter with his irritation radiating off him. Nonetheless, you certainly don't appreciate sudden meetings either. Maybe you can set your grievances down for now, and focus on some common ground for now? With a forcefully saccharine smile, you nodded along with him. "Yes, I'm not a fan of it either. Hizashi helped me set this up. I was supposed to meet with the principal."
"I also have to go to that meeting," Shouta paused like something clicked for him. "Were you lost?"
"The hallways changed while I was away and I wasn't given a map. Excuse me for intruding on your peaceful morning." You grumbled at the man. No duh, you were lost.
"Don't mention it. I have to go to the meeting too, I can walk you there. I need to grab something first." He went to the desk, sights set on a stack of tan file folders, the sun blinded you in the process leaving a green spots on your vision. When he was ready, you stepped form the door to make room, but your ankle rolled. Your quirk does nothing to maintain your stability after all. You fell on your butt and your briefcase slide across the purple floor. Ow. You grit your teeth, standing up like nothing happened. Aizawa went to grab your cases, but you go for to it before he could.
Falling back on your media training, you force another smile through the sharp pain in your ankle. Then you marched like a little toy soldier. Shouta's leads the way, and you follow two paces behind him. You subtly try to shake off the pain. It didn't work. Your lip twitched as you hoped you didn't make the sprain worse. A sudden spark of anger dwelled inside you and you flipped off the floor swiftly behind Shouta's back. It alleviated the pain a little bit as flipping off inanimate objects usually does.
Despite using your quirk to strengthen you, the current created by him caused a notable temperature change within yourself. The tense silence was helping in no way. You were forced to sit with the discomfort of whatever distress he was feeling. Whether that'd be from the meeting ruining his plans, or simply you being here when you should not be. You watch the back of his boots and attempt to match his gate. That fall you took earlier was strike one. For the plan to go well, you MUST have full confidence from the people around here. No one can know you are hurt.
A sigh escaped you, causing the man to glance back. You wave it off, "Jet lag. I've been up for… longer then I should be." Realizing you may have messed up by sharing too much information, you spoke again. "If you don't mind me asking, what do you teach here?"
"I don't teach any subjects. I'm a homeroom teacher."
A laugh escapes your mouth before you consider the possibility that he's serious. Another surge. Crap you made him upset with you again. You cover your mouth. "Excuse me. That was rude." For a second, your mind ran off wondering what the students would be like after all this time. Whenever you had time you usually loved dissecting quirks, it was one of the most help hobbies a hero could have in the field. Especially considering each generation raises the bar in terms of power. Then you considered if there could be anyone who was like you when you were a student. The more you thought of it, you wouldn't wish that on anyone, not even Aizawa. "How long have you been a homeroom teacher?"
Shouta stopped walking. Then he turned to face you. On his face was the expression that you had asked the stupidest question ever. "I've been teaching for years."
You held your tongue back before you could say anything else. How were you supposed to know? You weren't in the country— and it's not like he's ever tried to reach out and tell you about his life. "Sorry I asked," said and walked past him. Screw those memories you had— screw him! And screw YOU for getting sentimental over a classmate from high school— AGAIN!
You shook your head
How were you supposed to know that? It's not like he's tried to— you can't believe you almost missed him for a second. Screw those memories, and screw you for getting sentimental over a classmate— again! You shook your head trying to expel whatever ill-timed feeling you were having. Your internal temperature was rising through your anatomy— great. You pissed off the first person you met in the school before the meeting started. Fantastic.
Down the hall, you see a man with outrageously tall, blond hair and a punk rock style leaning against a door with his arms moving dramatically while speaking to the Statuesque Stunner— who looked much more serious while waiting with a hand on her hip. You waved in their direction and Hizashi's eyes snapped toward you away from Nemuri. Hizashi grinned ear to ear looking your way, which made Nemuri turn around to see what he was looking at.
Hizashi pushed himself off the wall. "Coming out of her cage for her GRAND COMEBACK—" he announced, just as he used to, while approaching your end of the hall with raised arms.
Just like that, the burning and the burdens fell away.
Nemuri shouted your name, pushed Hizashi out of the way and dashed toward you with no sign of stopping. It's been a long time since you've seen her, and you're a tank. You may as well let her— wait… She could rip your stitches! Your eyes widened and you gripped your suitcase tighter a split second before impact. In the last nanosecond, you bent your knees and hooked your free arm around Nemuri and hoisted her up in the air. Nemuri laughed, absolutely thrilled.
"It's the Queen of Terror, Pro-Hero Strife!" Hizashi finished your announcement and joined you when you set Nemuri back down, her heels clicked softly against the ground.
Nemuri threw her arms over your shoulders, "I didn't know you were coming! Why didn't you tell me?" Her head snapped to Hizashi furiously, then she let go and pointed an accusing finger at him. "Did you keep this from me?!"
Hizashi raised his hands and smiled nervously. "Surprise?" Hizashi walked behind you placing a hand of his own on your shoulder. Even in Japan, you will be used as a human shield. "I was waiting forever," he scolded in what you hoped was jokingly. "Did you have a problem with direction?"
Before you could ask "What directions?" The two of them looked over at Shouta. "I'm sure Aizawa had no problem helping her find her way," Nemuri commented.
"Huh, would you look at that, it seems we're having ourselves a good old fashioned reunion! Yeah!" Hizashi fist pumped the air and held the pose. It seems like he and Nemuri were expecting some sort of fanfare, but both you and Shouta stood at arm's length away from one another. Silent. After all, you were here for work and to not get fired; and Shouta would clearly prefer not to be around. "Oh, C'mon Aizawa," Hizashi took his hand off you and grabbed Shouta instead to make him look at you. "Aren't you happy to see your dearest mentor again?" Mic asked his other friend, who in turns shoved Mic off.
That question gutted you and left a tide of vomit in your throat. You rolled your eyes bitterly as you tuned out whatever response Aizawa said. One of the benefits of not using a language in a while is being able to force yourself not to listen. The only silver lining is knowing your energy levels skyrocketing after being around these three. You felt stronger, but still terribly tired as the walls around escape you.
"I'm heading to the meeting room, make sure you don't block the hallway."
"Wow, talk about harsh!" Mic said, chipper but irked at the interaction according to your sensor, which slowly was losing its charge the further Shouta walked away.
"I thought he'd be happier to see you," Nemuri commented wistfully.
You raised your arms and shrugged. 'Guess everyone's disappointed then,' you thought, although the last thing you should be thinking about right now is whatever old news you two had. Not when you need to think of how are you going to convince the staff to let you lead your manhunt in the school. You can feel the unspoken question in the air, but you don't acknowledge it. Hizashi and Nemuri tried to make plans for you all to eat at a restaurant before you go. Honestly given the tight timeline, you weren't really expecting to have that much time to sit down and talk after you arrest Rin. You still agree to it, not fully understanding the details of the arrangement — if there is one. If you had the chance, sure, you would like to hang out with them. It's been a long time and who's to say Hizashi and Nemuri would even like the person you are right now.
A deep, exhausted voice said good morning. When you looked over it was the hulking frame of All Might. He looked different then how you're used to seeing him. No figure considering his last fight, which you've caught a few clips of on the news in the midst of your last investigation. The videos started just before Rin showed up at your doorstep. Mic introduced you two and you hoped you said something intelligent, like "Hi, my name is". After all it is not everyday someone meets their hero. Unfortunately, this was a very rare case where you prayed this would never happen. Not being able to grasp a coherent thought toward what was going on around you. Mic told All Might you used to study him to learn Japanese, words spill out your mouth, and you hoped it was charming. The only saving grace you have is your childhood training in keeping your composure from the woman who birthed you. That and wanting to channel your nerves into wacking Mic with your briefcase because how dare he rip any chance away of you being seen as cool by All Might.
Despite being exposed as the nerd you were when you were younger, you managed to survive speaking to the reigning champion of Number One Heroes. The conversation you had already left your memory; but you managed to get him to laugh at something you said. Talk about an ego boost!
Your smile faded when Principal came around. He greeted you like he remembered you after all this time. Admittedly, you didn't share the same sentiment— having hoped he would've been someone that didn't know you as a child. That was the least of your problems which made your stomach sink. You'd have better luck grasping at smoke then remembering his name. Of course you would never confess that! Especially not before the meeting…
You blinked, and you were standing at the front of the meeting room. All the tables are set up like a U, and you adjusted yourself pretending you were perfectly operational. You totally remembered walking inside and seeing these two other faculty members. One being a cowboy, at that. The other was just some buff guy with white hair and an underbite. Nemuri and Shouta looked as if they were talking for a while. Funny because you don't remember her walking in the room with you either. The Principal thanked everyone for taking the time to attend this meeting so early while you rubbed your thumb against the ridges of your suitcase handle and the staff proceeded to take their seats.
He continued on, formally introducing you as Pro-Hero Strife, a former UA Alumni from the same class as Eraserhead and Present Mic, who is "requesting to use UA resources to solve a case from overseas until further notice". In that moment, the normal warmth from your quirk's charge scorched your nervous system as if you were heading off to fight to the death. There's no logical reason for this amount of distress from a meeting. Not at this moment.
No. It couldn't stress. Or fear. This feeling was the only one quickest to burn you up inside-out... This was animosity.
You looked at the seat where two tables conjoin. His dark eyes stare you down, arms crossed against his chest as the principal continues his introduction.
Imagine Todoroki listening when you say that it would be healing if you could jump your toxic parent one time— since that way you won’t be afraid anymore.
I think he would be supportive of the concept in a “well if you think that will help you” type of way
Progress report: I’m halfway through Chapter 2 Draft Two for the Retrospective rewrite
I get to work on the flashback scene where Aizawa challenges you to the Sports Festival in your first year and the present day meeting scene afterward.
Present Mic is a DJ, meaning that he would be known in the music industry as well.
What if you were also a pro-hero in the music scene, and one day, fans start to speculate on a song you released being about Mic because of pictures of you two together before the release?
That sounds like a fun idea, until the song is NOT a cute romantic song, it’s a cover of Black Sheep by Metric. The fans think you’re calling him out because of lyrics like this
Now, you didn’t think the fans would freak out the way they do because you didn’t think of the Implications™️ of releasing the song after hanging out with Mic publicly. Mic even needs to call you up and ask if things are good between you two.
It becomes a PR nightmare on both sides; so you and Mic need to work together to clean it up
So a couple days ago I finished the first draft for the entire Aizawa x American Pro-Hero!(F)Reader
Hooray!
I’m curious on how other writers handle writing the second draft for long fics. I like learning about other’s writing processes
I am, admittedly, an underwriter so my second draft is about bulking out scenes primarily. I also have to do a structure edit so that everything is in sequential order
I think I just fully committed to the quirklessness as disability interpretation of bnha (under the social model of disability at least.) Not just because of the discrimination Izuku faces, but because the series consistently treats someone losing their quirk/someone's quirk being damaged the same as other disabilities.
