"Do you mind if I ask you a personal question? Are you happy?" @punchdup
"Huh? Go ahead," Terry said, picking at a plate of french fries and half-watching the bar's TV. Terry didn't expect the next question that came from Colm's mouth, and it took a moment to register.
"What?" Terry blinked, turning toward Punch Up, clearly thrown off. He tried to rack his mind for anything that had happened throughout the day that could have brought this question on. Sure, Terry didn't smile much, but he didn't think he looked outright miserable. And yet, here was Colm asking him a question Terry didn't really have an answer to.
If there was no answer, did that mean it was a no?
Terry looked away. It certainly wasn't a fucking yes.
He scratched the back of his neck. He could brush it off. Tell him to mind his own business, but Terry liked Colm. He was easy going and straightforward and he figured he was asking because well.
Terry must not be hiding his feelings as well as he liked.
"I don't know," Terry said finally, picking up another french fry as if it would help him with an answer. "I'm not... depressed?" He took a swig of his whiskey sour. "Why?"
@punchdup
"What's the matter? Are you sick?"
"No."
But if this migraine didn't go away, he was going to be and not in the sense Wally meant. The lights overhead were making things worse and all Terry wanted to do was find a nice dark space to die in.
"Why's the lights always gotta be so damn bright in these places?"
These places, meaning the League facility that he'd been forcibly "requested" to attend for some meeting. Terry had been too busy trying to figure out if there were any signs of his rogue AI appearing, rather than keeping up with current events.
"You got any aspirin?"
Terry did work for criminals here and there to get money and food. He was the lookout in multiple raids, a distraction, the scout /spy, scoping places out before anyone set foot on the premises.
All this to say, Terry loves Bruce a lot even if he will never say so because if not for him, Terry is 100% sure he would be in Blackgate.
A few things to know abt Terry and his childhood:
His parents were murdered when he was 8 and he ran. The cops didn't find him for months. He survived that time by stealing and the luck of kind strangers. Gotham's homeless population makes a tight network and a traumatized child would be protected by most.
Of course. Not everyone is good or has good intentions. Terry finds this out more than once.
He ends up in and out of foster families because he runs away. He meets former criminal "Stitches" when he's 11 and stays with him until the man dies when Terry is 14. This is when his teaming up with Big Time landed him in juvie.
He lands back in the foster system and tries his best to do better. In spite of this, it doesn't work out.
Terry is skilled in thievery, parkour and knife handling. He's slippery and feral when caught. He crossed paths with plenty ofvcriminals that tried to hurt him. Some of them did. Some of them found out how badly he would fight to survive.
I love writing Terry as a hot head. I love writing him as somebody who has anger issues. I think it's something that was not explored enough considering he was, prior to the start of the series, considered a delinquent. He was in juvie. He has that argument with his dad over getting suspended from school. And it's clear that this is something that happens because he's a bit of a mess. But he's also in a transition period at the beginning. Like from what I understand of the timeline his juvie stint is like when he's 14 and he's 16 at the start.
That's not a lot of time especially considering that his parents apparently divorced around the time he ended up in juvie.
Anyway, that's canon stuff and doesn't really necessarily apply to my version of events, but I do try to parallel a lot of the incidents in the cartoon. And I think that it's so important to his character and his background, particularly the fact that he feels like he needs to Be a better person. So I need to make him struggle with his past and all the problems that come with it. And one of those things is his anger issues that follow him even as he gets older, even as he works through those issues.
It's really wild how in all the years of writing Terry I still have yet to get interactions with a peter parker.

+. "As long as it can run, I don't---"
The in-dented structure of the hood creaked as the hero stepped off -- causing Chiaki to take a momentary step back to collect his breath while watching glass shatter down upon the ground. Oh yeah. Chiaki definitely wasn't going to be able to drive this back to the hospital anytime soon.
"...Maybe it's better to be safe than sorry after all."
But a cracked windshield and a busted hood were the least of his problems now. Instead, he did what he could -- turning his main priority back to the masked vigilante whose back had to be in the worst kind of pain for the time being.
He'd have more time later to call the dispatchers and let them know he needed to be picked up.
"Look; superhero or not --- No one takes a fall like that and just walks it off. Come on."
Walking off to the back of the ambulance, Chiaki gestured for Terry to take a much-needed seat right on the steps up inside. He didn't even ask him to sit down on the stretcher, just to avoid moving around too much before the adrenaline would settle.
"At least do me a favor and sit down before you do something stupid.".+
He should tell him he's had worse-- which he has. The suit could take quite a bit of damage before Terry had to worry about broken bones. He would be bruised up for sure, but it wasn't like he couldn't move, right? Still, even as Terry considered all of this there was some truth to the medic's words.
"Not unless your Superman, I guess..." he mumbled before following Chiaki to the gestured spot.
He frowned at the comment. Wasn't that kind of his job? Doing stupid things? Terry snorted, smirking as he did so.
"I'm fine. This suit's designed to take all the damage. I barely even felt anything." A lie, but only a little one. The suit's AI flashed something in one of the lenses. A diagnostics and bioscan report that said he was going to be laying in bed for most of tomorrow. Fine, so maybe the medic had a point. He wasn't going to admit that. "You sure you didn't want to just hold me hostage for destroying your ambulance?"
Like this for Terry in your ask box.
I need to make more icons for Terry but I don't want to.
Someone make icons for me and I'll give you... A sketch. Yeah.

Could be absolutely anything. Don’t be shy!
Terry is a mouthy, sarcastic little shit for the most part. He can't help it-- especially if he has the chance to mouth off to some other asshole to tick them off. He teases friends, comments with little witty remarks when they're out and about and he always has a smart remark for someone.
But he also can be really quiet with people he's very comfortable with. He gets more lively in a group, but with just one or two people he's close with, he prefers to vibe, chill, just go with the flow. That means not poking fun, or making stupid comments. He's more content to listen or just do his own thing while someone else does there's in utter silence. He doesn't need to fill it.
A lot of his sarcasm and witty commentary is mostly for riling people up anyway.
Shakes cup send asks? Pls 💜
Some of Terry's music taste for sure.
