It had been nearly a whole year since Rachel had last touched her youtube channel, ever since her mother had found out about her secret hobby. And even though she had been away from home for almost half a year now, the blonde had put off even logging in, that old fear of mother walking in and spotting her always creeping in the back of her mind. But it was a new year and Rachel was determined to not let old fears rule her life, and while she was nowhere near ready to confront the truths that were slowly revealing themselves in the back of her mind, she was ready to get back to what she loved. Painting. So she set her camera and supplies up in one of the common areas when she had found it quietest and began to paint. It was a simple picture, sun shining through gaps in leaves onto the snow covered ground of a busy city street; an image she couldn’t get out of mind since coming back from LA. As she worked, she sang quietly to herself, forgetting that she was still in a fairly public area despite the lack of people around her right now.
It was a fairly nice day outside today, but not quite as nice as Ty had been hoping. After less than an hour on the grass, she decided to go back inside, at least for a little while. Walking by the common area, she heard singing, and, since she had nothing better to do right now, she decided to follow the voice to see who it was. She didn’t recognize the song, but it was pretty and she liked it. Once she entered the room, she was a little bit surprised to see the paint set-up. Usually the people she saw in here were just hanging out, reading or talking or something else that required little set-up. Still, she supposed it wasn’t a bad place to do it, if this girl thought it was worth the trouble to lug all of her stuff down here. “Ooh, are you painting? What are you painting?”

Marinette hadn’t even thought to look up the address - it hadn’t occurred to her, but she would have probably thought it wasn’t allowed. Ty had been a little smarter, but luckily, Mari had put on one of her signature ‘suitable-for-most-occasions’ outfits, so she wouldn’t feel out of place, unless it was an extremely formal event. But they’d just had a gala, so she assumed that wouldn’t be the case. Plus, she was really excited now that Ty had mentioned it. “Yes, that sounds very amazing! I will like the carnival.” She closed the door behind her, signalling that she was ready. “Good to go!”
“Okay!” Ty grinned. “Let’s go, then!” She turned away from the door, and, making sure that Marinette was with her, began making her way onwards. After a moment, she realized that she did not know Marinette at all, and since they were going to be spending the day together, it would be a good idea to change that. “So!” she said brightly, turning to Marinette with a smile. “Where are you from? What do you like to do? Oh, what are you at Astra for?” That was maybe a lot of questions, but now she wouldn’t have to answer all of them if she didn’t want to. “I like your outfit, by the way. You look cute!”
ladyxchance·:
Taeyeon was a Korean name, and when Marinette read it on the little card that she received with the name of her date and the location, she did a little research on Korea and its alphabet. She felt like it was her duty, even though she was already learning English, but in case she needed to impress her date (only for friendship!), she wanted to learn. However, when she heard the knock on her hotel room door, she had already made an effort to look nice, so it might have been overkill if she came out calling ‘안녕하세요’. Instead, she replied in English. “Hi, Ty! It’s nice to meet you too! Are you ready? Do you have any idea what the address is?”
She nodded. “Yep, I’m ready! I think it’s a carnival, unless I looked it up wrong or something.” She giggled. She didn’t want to show up in an outfit that was completely inappropriate for whatever activity was planned for her and her date, so she had googled the address as soon as she received the information card. Upon discovering that it seemed to be a carnival, she was pleased. They could have planned something boring for her, which would be a huge disappointment, but a carnival would be fun. “I’m excited! I love carnivals! Are you ready to go too, or do you need any more time?”

A blind date was bound to be a fun way to spend Valentine’s Day, Ty decided. It was always a little bit sad to be alone on Valentine’s Day, and even if this wasn’t a date-date, she could still end up with a new friend. New friends were always good, especially if the friend was nice. She had never met Marinette Dupain-Cheng, but she was assuming that she was nice, because most of the people she had met here were nice. Once she arrived at Marinette’s door, she smoothed her skirt and hair (even if this wasn’t a date-date, she wanted to make a good impression), then knocked on the door. “Hi, Marinette! I’m Ty. Nice to meet you!” she said, smiling brightly when the door opened. This was going to be so fun!
If there was any place in America Cornelius could call home, it was Los Angeles. His family had even bought a house thirty minutes away because of how frequently they visited, whether it be because of his mother’s TV show or if his father had any appearances for book tours. The city felt like a second home to him, so coming back with Astra felt pretty special. He’d taken the time to unpack his things and make sure his hotel room was fixed properly before slipping out, the midday sun shining through the window next to the elevator. He greeted his fellow Astranaut when he saw them waiting for the elevator too, a small grin on his face. “So, you ever been here before? LA, I mean?”
Ty was so excited for this trip. As much as she liked Astra, she had been there for six months now, and, as used to travelling as she was, that was a long time for her to be in one place. She was really glad for the opportunity to see a new area. As soon as she had gotten settled in her hotel room, she had to go out and explore. She wasn’t sure what she was going to do yet, she just knew she had to do something. Grinning, she turned to the boy at the elevator when he spoke. “Nope! This is my first time! I’m so excited! What about you? Have you been here before?”

It had taken some convincing, but Dick had finally gotten the compound management to agree to putting up trapeze in the buildings gym. There’d been some questions raised about how it would help him achieve his dream, but when he’d offered to pay for it they’d been quicker to agree. Which is how Dick found himself rubbing chalk into his hands and grinning up at the metal ring that his fingers were itching hold. The climb up the rope was as easy as he remembered it to be and there was a single moment as he gripped the ring and flew through the air that Dick worried he didn’t know what to do anymore before instincts kicked in and his legs swung up, flipping his body in the air and he let out a breathy laugh of excitement.
Ty did not consider herself a trapeze artist -- when it came to aerial acrobatics, she preferred the tight rope -- but they were acrobatics nevertheless, and that was exciting. Even more exciting, there was a guy using the rings already -- another acrobat! It had been so long since she had been around other acrobats, and he was pretty good. Waiting until he was in a safe enough position that she wouldn’t have to worry about breaking his concentration and accidentally killing him or something, she shouted excitedly, “Oh my gosh! You’re an acrobat?!”

Rarely could one find Peter’s guard down in Chicago. Even without his implants, he’d listen to his gut because the conditions in which he lived called for him to be on high alert. It became part of his day to day life with the activities he was involved in, but after stepping foot in Sacramento, the area felt safer in comparison. It wasn’t saying much, but it had partly to do with why he soon found himself pinned down against with the floor. In addition, going in and out of places as he pleased with no qualms to tell anyone was a particularly bad habit.
“The fuck-” It was the initial shock that had him struggle to reach for the new pocket knife he’d bought after the TSA confiscated his old one, but soon, the realization hit him. Accompanied by it, an airy laugh, reminding him once again why he was against having a roommate, but he had no control over that. The program had probably been convinced it was in his best interest. “Either I’m under arrest, or my probation officer’s going to love you and your idea of a welcoming committee.”
Feeling him struggle, Ty pressed down harder. Tired as she was (her beauty sleep was very important -- couldn’t the intruder at least be polite enough to do this when she was more awake?), she was determined to not let him get the better of her. When he laughed, though, she scrunched up her eyebrows. That wasn’t how most people reacted to getting pinned to the floor (in an attack context, at least). Maybe he was just weird.
“Welcoming co -- oh!” Her eyes widened, and she suddenly felt more awake as she realized who he most likely was. She almost got off of him, but she had to be sure first. He could just be tricking her or something, after all. Azula would definitely be disappointed in her if she was dumb enough to let someone break into her apartment and then get away with it, if he actually was an intruder instead of her new roommate. “Wait, are you Peter? You’re late! Why are you just getting here at three in the morning?” He was definitely weird, she decided.
@circusfreakty
It was 3 o’clock in the morning. Having left the compound at noon after exploring the amenities, he’d only just returned from the streets of Sacramento. He regularly improvised to see what adventures the day could bring, but subconsciously, he was strategically avoiding something until there was nothing left to keep him occupied.
Whistling “City of Stars”, he finally opened the door to his room for the first time, dragging in his carry-on that he had left behind a stack of deck chairs. Once he closed the door, he spun around to get a look at the place, and that’s when he stopped his tune, leaving his luggage right by the door along with his implants to begin walking. The shadows were harsh with the only source of light being from the sleepless city outside, but it didn’t bother him. He kept on, eyes study every piece of furniture he brushed the tips of his fingers on. Out of sight and out of mind was the little detail that he had a roommate.
Ty was excited to have a roommate. Having her own space was nice, but she was a social person by nature, and living alone for six months was starting to get to her a little bit. Even a stranger would be better; anyway, she was friendly. They wouldn’t be a stranger for very long. Right now, though, all she knew about her roommate was his name and that he would be arriving today. She hoped he was nice.
Since her new roommate -- Peter, his name was -- was arriving today, she decided to tidy up just a little bit and then wait for him to arrive so she could greet him properly. Unfortunately, the evening came and went, and by eleven o’clock she decided she would rather not sacrifice her own sleep schedule; she could greet him in the morning.
Ty wasn’t a particularly heavy sleeper though, so when she heard noise in her living room, she was up. Still half-asleep despite her alertness, she didn’t stop to think about the expected newcomer. All she knew right then was that there was a stranger in her living room, and it was three o’clock in the morning. The intruder’s back was to her, which was good -- she had the advantage. Moving silently as she could, she delivered a swift kick under his legs to knock him down, pinning him underneath her.

Stretching wasn’t something that had crossed Nick’s mind, but once she started doing so, he followed briefly, moving his arms back and forth across his chest in order to stretch the muscle joints. Not that he knew that much about the body’s anatomy, it just seemed like the right thing to do. When they were finished, which was only moments after he had started (though he didn’t mind), he got into a starting position. Knees were bent, arms at angle; the brunet was ready. “I would not count on such things,” he joked, looking at the girl then back at the endless stretch of hallway in front of them. “First one to connecting corner, meaning where hallways meet, wins. On mark, get set, go!” And with that, the man was sprinting as fast as he could.
Oh, good, he had a fighting spirit too. Ty grinned, getting down into a starting position as well. She eyed the connecting corner, already imagining her victory. She probably could have contributed the friendly trash-talk for another couple minutes, but she was also ready to run. As soon as the word “go” was in the air, Ty was off. Giggling, she pulled ahead of him just a little bit. She didn’t want to hurt his feelings by beating him too hard, and it was only for fun anyway. There was no reason to use all of her energy, especially if he decided he wanted a rematch.

Exchanging numbers with Nikolai’s dance partner from the gala did not disappoint, especially when she was still up for the race they’d briefly talked about. Goofy, fun stuff like this really pulled in the man’s attention; he was truly a child at heart. Maybe people saw that was juvenile, but Nick didn’t bother with all of that. Those who liked the things that he liked and, therefore, brought enjoyment to his life were the people that mattered most – clearly that meant Ty, too. “Alright. We ready?” the man asks, looking over at the person he’d called to a random longest stretch of hallway within the Astra compound. “I will count to three, okay? Then we go. Get prepared,” he smiles playfully, excited from the challenge that was just ahead.
Ty had nearly forgotten about the proposed race, after all of the other fun topics of conversation at the gala, but when Nick brought it up again she could hardly say no. He was a lot of fun to dance with, and he seemed to find even more excitement in life than she did; she thought he would make a good friend. Plus, she was always up for a little bit of friendly competition, especially when that competition was actually friendly. She was excited for this race. After a quick stretch to warm up -- just because this was a friendly little race didn’t mean she wouldn’t take it, and her body’s health, seriously -- she turned to him with a grin. “I’m ready!” She bounced up and down a little bit, itching to get started. “Count away! Just don’t be too sad when I beat you.”

❝ THE CIRCUS , i haven’t been to the circus in such a long time ! i must say i have very few memories of the performances i saw , but they were all very wonderful — you must be so talented … ❞ Surely circus life wasn’t all roses, but Kari thought that maybe her knew friend would like to know that the redhead thought their background was exciting and interesting . Who doesn’t appreciate the feeling of being special ? When Ty revealed her full name , Karnchana giggled in understanding, ❝ Taeyeon , it’s very beautiful ! But I will be sure to call you Ty , don’t worry . Please , do you know where I can get some food ? They have to have quite the variety in here , yes ? I am starving ! ❞
Ty brightened at the compliment. Sure, Kari had never seen her perform, so she did not actually know that Ty was talented, but it was nice to hear anyway -- plus, Ty was talented, and she did know that for sure. “Thank you! I agree!” She giggled. “Obviously!” If she didn’t think she was talented, or that the circus was wonderful, what would be the point? Her smile softened a little bit, thinking about the circus. “I love the circus!” She looked around the room for the food tables, which she definitely remembered seeing earlier, somewhere. “Yes!” she exclaimed, quickly spotting the table across the room. “There’s a table over this way! Come on, I’ll show you!” She turned in the direction of the table, gesturing for Kari to follow.

Azula wasn’t much for dancing, but she was used to formal gatherings because of her family’s standards in Japan. However, ever since her mother disappeared, the Oshiro family hadn’t had networking events, so the last memory she had of a formal party like the one Astra was throwing for them, was when she was approximately ten years old. However, she was game for alcoholic drinks, to cope with all the bullshit America was throwing at her, and this was a perfect opportunity. “Okay? You clearly haven’t had the right drink, then!” Without asking, she handed Ty an opened bottle, no glass or flute to go with it. “Try this.”
“You’re probably right!” she agreed, taking the bottle, just a little bit startled, but not unwilling. Azula probably was right -- Ty had barely tried any alcohol, so it wasn’t unbelievable to think that she had just tried the wrong ones. She didn’t mind giving this one a shot, though. She took a quick look at the bottle in her hand then drank from it. She coughed once, a small cough. The champagne was definitely more sour than she personally cared for. She couldn’t decide if she disliked it exactly, but she didn’t really love it. She liked sweet things, which is why she tended to stick to nonalcoholic drinks instead. “It’s sour!” she giggled. “Is there anything sweeter?”
dgrxysxn·:
Dick grinned at her words, knowing exactly what she meant by a gala being a workout and said as much, “I used to drive my family mad at these kind of things when I was kid. I was always doing really elaborate dance routines that involved a lot of wall jumping.” He’d grown out of it eventually, but he still enjoyed a good dance every now and again. “So far, I am yes. Might be having a better time once I’ve had a drink or two.”
Ty giggled. She could certainly relate to bouncing around one way or another and driving her family a little crazy by doing so. “Wall jumping? That’s fun! So are you a dancer? Or did you just like to dance?” Everyone here was so interesting, and it could really go either way. “That’s good! And they have drinks inside, so then it will be better for you!” Ty personally was not much of a drinker, but she didn’t judge people who were, especially since this was a party. Everyone was letting go in their own way. As far as she was concerned, the only thing that mattered was that they were having fun.
kavnchana·:
❝ OH, well, it’s still longer than I ! ❞ Kari laughed at her own joke, finding it a little too silly — then again, who doesn’t like a bit of lighthearted humor every once in a while ! When the brunette talked about how much she’d moved around growing up, the redhead’s eyes slowly grew wide; she could hardly imagine being brought up in more than a single place, though it sounded better than the past seven years of her life. ❝ That must have been one big adventure ! Do you prefer one over the other ? ❞ She asked with genuine curiosity. When the other girl asked if she was nervous, Kari nodded her head before laughing. ❝ A bit, yes, but I’m mostly excited ! I already like it here, so … Ty, that’s a cute name ! You can call me Kari if you prefer; in fact, I think I like it better when people call me by my nickname. ❞
Ty giggled. “That’s true!” To truly answer Karnchana’s question, Ty would have to think for a second, but this wasn’t a question that she wanted to think about a real answer for, so instead she started speaking immediately. “Not really! In Korea, I was in the circus, and in Japan, I had my friends, so they’re both fun!” She nodded in understanding. New places could be a little scary, especially when you weren’t used to moving around like Ty was. “That’s good! You’ll probably be fine, then!” She smiled. “Okay then, Kari, I will! And thank you, it’s a nickname, too! It’s short for Taeyeon, but I like Ty more, usually.”
dgrxysxn·:
Scratching at the back of his neck, Dick looked around the balcony awkwardly for a moment with a gently laugh as he tried to come up with an answer that wouldn’t make he seem more crazy then he already did. “Well, I just needed some fresh air and got a little…turned around.” He waved his hand in the air as if to show the way he’d walked around the building lost. “Can I ask why you’re stood out here in the cold as well? As you just said, there’s so much do inside.”
She nodded, accepting his answer. “Oh, okay! That makes sense.” And it did -- with all of the people in there, it was understandable that he might need to get out for a few minutes. “That’s why I’m out here too, actually! I’ve been dancing so much, it got really warm, so I had to take a quick break to cool down a little bit. Who knew a gala was such a workout?” She giggled. “It’s a really fun workout, though! Are you having fun?”
merldadunbroch·:
“Ooo a light effect could be kinda cool, I’d certainly be interested in seeing how they’d do it.” She was sure there was probably a way and if anyone could do it it would Astra. But soap bubbles was still what she was holding out for. “Hm, or new year! I think I’m just going to hold out in hope that Sacramento will suddenly be prone to snow in the next week.” It was unlikely, and she knew it, but hopeless dreams were her favourite.
“Me too! There’s probably someone here who would know how to do it. I bet there’s at least one person who came here to be a light designer or whatever. Ooh, can you imagine how cool all of these events would be if they had us help them?” She giggled. “That works too! I’ll hope with you -- it would be really nice to have snow. It’s also nice that it isn’t too cold though!”
