Mongolia has requested to have contortion listed as an UNESCO cultural heritage. Norovsambuu, one of the most famous contortion teachers, says that the Mongolian tradition goes back hundreds of years to a folk dance called Boyelgee, in which kneeling dancers lean back until their backs touch the floor.
