there is still time (WIP)
Taking place after episode 9 of TADC, Leroy decides to show her friends a certain building she stayed in while she was homeless. But when she puts on a headset she gets stuck in a world where everyone acts as if they already know her.
She said nothing, she didn't have the energy to argue with a talking sun, which hadn’t even been possible fifteen minutes ago.
She made her way over to the carnival area, where a bunch of wooden dolls resided.
One of them called out to her. “Young lady, would you like to win something?”
She turned to them, shaking her head. “I’m okay, I just need some time alone.”
They stared at her. “Would you like to win something?”
She blinked. “I just said I didn’t-”
“Would you like to win something?”
One of her ears twitched, she walked past the wooden doll.
As she continued onward, the wooden dolls at the booths would continue to ask if she wanted to try and win anything. She ignored them, moving forward.
At one point she snagged an icecream, she was surprised that it actually tasted real.
She sat outside of one of the rides, eating her icecream.
A brain scan… that’s what they said I was. If that’s true then does that mean that Leroy and I are different now? But if that’s the case then who am I? What name should I use? And then there’s Jax… it sounds like she’s also a brain scan based off of Leroy. But where is she?
She tugged on her ears. “Ugh, my head hurts with all of this thinking!”
She huffed, stretching as she got up. She decided it was time to head back to the circus, as much as she didn’t want to, she knew she couldn’t spend the night out here. She had a feeling that the others wouldn’t let her.
She’d have to talk with them about herself, who she was. She hated doing that.
“Hey there miss, would you like to try and win-”
“I already told you I don’t-”
Daisy stopped, the prize booth was filled with different outfits and makeup, but there was one thing that caught her eye the most. Eyeliner, she didn’t wear it often out in the real world, but now that she was here… she could wear it whenever..
“Uh miss?”
She stepped up. “What do I have to do?”
The wooden doll handed her a rubber hammer.
“Hit as many shrimps as you can before the timer runs out! Depending on how many points you get by the end you’ll win one of my prizes! Are you ready?”
Daisy nodded and a count down began, she hit as many shrimps as she could. She’d get that eyeliner, she deserved it after the day she had.
The wooden doll threw their arms out. “Congratulations! You got 200 points, you may choose one of our highest prizes!”
Daisy’s eyes drifted to the eyeliner again, she pointed to it. “That one.”
The wooden doll stared at her, which was weird because they didn’t have eyes. “That’s the lowest prize, are you sure you want-”
“Yes.”
The wooden doll shrugged, but handed over the eyeliner.
Daisy stared at it, joy in her eyes. She couldn’t wait to put it on.
She put it in her pocket, moving back to the circus.
Upon entering she was met with Pomni who was pacing, when she saw her, she looked relieved.
“Jax!”
Daisy shook her head. “Daisy.”
Pomni winced. “Right, sorry.”
Daisy shrugged. “It’s okay.”
Pomni turned. “Guys, she’s back!”
There was a pop, Caine and everyone else was there.
Ragatha immediately rushed over. “Jax, where were you? You can’t just wander off like that!”
Daisy sighed. “Okay, I’m gonna need to explain some stuff to you guys. I am not Jax, I don’t know where she is or what happened to her, but I am not her. I’m going to make that clear now, her and I are not the same, even if we look similar or both are… scans of Leroy’s brain, I am not her. Are we clear on that?”
Everyone nodded.
“Okay, perfect, my name’s Daisy, do you have any questions?”
“Normally it’d be us asking you that,” Ragatha said.
Daisy huffed. “I have plenty of questions, but right now I don’t think I can handle the answers. So, do you have any questions?”
Gangle raised her hand… ribbon. “Um, why did you refer to Jax and Leroy as she?”
Daisy blinked, did Jax never realize that she was…
“Because I’m a trans woman, or I guess I should say Leroy and I are trans women.”
Everyone seemed surprised by this information.
I guess Jax never realized or maybe never told them?
Zooble’s expression changed into something that Daisy didn’t recognize, they turned and left, Gangle followed after them.
Daisy looked back at Ragatha, Pomni, and Kinger who were still shocked, but their expressions began to change into sorrow.
Caine on the other hand had recovered quickly, he grabbed Daisy’s arm, and in the blink of an eye they were in a hallway.
Daisy looked around confused, there were doors, some of them had red Xes on them, that covered faces.
“Follow me, Daisy.”
She turned. “Uh right.”
She followed him, still scanning the doors as she did. She stopped when she saw a door that had a purple rabbit on the front, a red X crossed through her face.
“Hey, is this Jax?”
Caine stopped. “Yeah, that’s her.”
“Caine, what do the red Xes mean?”
Caine hesitated. “Everyone who has a red X over their door has abstracted.”
“And what exactly does that mean? Are they dead?”
“Not exactly, but let’s not focus on that right now, we should get you to your room.”
Daisy took this as a sign that Caine no longer wanted to talk, so she said nothing else.
They finally arrived at her door, the picture on the front was similar to Jax’s, but her smile seemed a lot… kinder.
“Here it is! Get some rest, Daisy, I’m sure you’ll need it after today!”
“Wait,” she grabbed his arm, preventing him from leaving.
He stared down at her. “Did I mess up? Should I not have told them that?”
“I’m not sure,” Caine said. “If it helps, I don’t think they hate you, it’s just a lot. Seeing someone who looks a lot like their abstracted friend.”
Daisy nodded. “Yeah, I guess so. I’ll talk with them about it tomorrow.”
Caine looked at her.
“Is something wrong? Do I still have ice cream on my face?”
“You really are different compared to Jax.”
Daisy didn’t know what to say to that, so she said nothing, which caused Caine to leave.
Daisy shut the door to her room, making sure to lock it.
She collapsed on her bed face first; she turned her head to the side. There was a vanity with a small stool, there was a pink rug, but other than that the room was empty.
She took the eyeliner out of her pocket, studying it. She couldn’t wait to wear it tomorrow.
She smiled at the thought of it, maybe things wouldn’t be too bad here.

I hope you liked this chapter, let me know what you think!
.smth about extremely repressed and suicidal trans girl having the “evil” version of herself tell her that she looks good in a dress. and then she tells that reflection that she wants her dead. Yeah
One of them chuckled. “Don’t tell me you’re planning to murder us.”
Leroy rolled her eyes. “As if, I just wanna show you one of the buildings I used to stay in.”
“You mean when you-”
Before they could finish their sentence Leroy’s friend, Celia elbowed them, forcing a smile.
“So… have you decided on a name yet?”
Leroy shrugged as she walked. “No, I can’t find anything that fits you know?”
Celia nodded. “Yeah, just let us know if you think of one, alright?”
Leroy stopped. “We’re here!”
She turned to them, her hands thrown out to show off the building.
They stared up at it, on the front there was a faded logo that read C&A.
One of Leroy’s friends, Jamie, stared at it. “You stayed in this place? For how long?”
Leroy waved one of her hands, dismissing him. “Ah, just a night or two. Not a big deal!”
Jamie scoffed. “Not a big deal, my ass.”
Leroy opened the doors, eager to change the subject. “Anyways! Who wants the grand tour?”
They all ended up going in per Leroy’s request.
She took them by each room, telling them what they were used for. Although, most of what she told them was bullshit.
It wasn’t until they got to a specific room that Leroy actually said what its purpose had been. But, not for the company.
“And this was the room I slept in!” She presented it with a flourish of her hand.
The room was an office filled with cubicles, each one had a computer as well as some paperwork.
Jamie went over to one of the cubicles, picking up a picture.
Leroy leaned over them, the picture was of a man and his wife. They looked absolutely smitten.
Leroy made a fake gagging sound. “Yuck!”
Jamie playfully punched her shoulder. “Come on, don’t be rude.”
Leroy raised her hands in defense. “Hey, it’s not like they’re here!”
“Hey what’s this?”
Leroy turned. “Hm?”
His friend, Archie was staring at a computer that was completely separated from the other cubicles, this one was lit up.
Leroy approached it, next to it sat a headset. “It’s a computer.”
Archie scoffed. “Okay, but why is it on?”
Leroy squinted at it, before snapping her fingers. “Oh yeah! I remember this one, when I was staying here it was also on!”
He blinked. “What? But how is that…”
Leroy shrugged. “Don’t ask me, I don’t know how these things work.”
She lifted the headset. “I’m surprised this thing is still here, I was sure someone would’ve taken it by now.”
Celia and Jamie approached the table.
Celia tilted her head. “What is it?”
Leroy shook her head. “I don’t know, some sorta… early VR design or something? It doesn’t do anything though, that I can say for sure.”
Jamie looked over at her. “You put that on?”
Leroy nodded. “Yeah, the thing’s light was keeping me up all night, I couldn’t sleep. When I was gonna turn it off, I saw the headset and decided to see if anything happened.”
Leroy thought for a few moments. “You think anything will happen now?”
Archie crossed his arms. “I doubt it, but if you wanna try it out, be our guest.”
Celia frowned. “But… what if there’s something bad inside?”
Jamie looked at her skeptically. “Like what?”
Leroy grinned. “Spiders maybe?”
Celia shivered. “Don’t even joke about that. Seriously, Leroy, let’s just leave, we can go get dinner.”
Leroy looked down at the headset. “I just wanna try it out, alright?”
Celia frowned. “I have a bad feeling about this.”
Leroy looked up at her, her gaze softened. “It’s just a headset Lia, nothing to be scared about, alright?”
Celia visibly relaxed. “Alright, okay.”
Leroy put the headset on, she was met with a white screen, it felt as if it was pulling her in. She blinked and it felt like she missed something because now she was standing on a stage.
She looked around, the place was extremely colorful, it was an eyesore. But despite that she was in awe. This hadn’t happened the last time she put it on, she wondered what changed.
“Wait until they see this,” she said to herself.
She lifted her hands to pull the headset off, only to find that it wasn’t there.
She frowned, tugging on her head, but she didn’t feel a headset.
“What the…”
She kept tugging but to no avail, she felt panic rising in her chest, but she blocked it out.
She looked around the area, black checkered floors, colorful blocks, a giant… tube?
She got off the stage carefully, she stumbled a bit, but once she was off, she started looking around. Maybe there was someone that could help her, some kind of administrator or something.
Her friends had to be worried, she was probably just standing there.
Guilt flooded through her, Celia. The poor woman was probably freaking out. Yeah, she needed to find a way out as soon as possible.
She wandered the area, but there was absolutely no one.
“Hello, is anyone here?!” She shouted.
There was a pop and a… body with dentures floated before her.
His expression, which had been filled with excitement, quickly turned into confusion. “Jax?”
She stared at him for a few moments before shaking her head. “Alright, perfect! Teeth guy, you can help me leave, right,?”
The thing just stared at her, it was starting to make her feel uncomfortable.
“Uh-”
“Oh, oh no.” It said.
She raised one of her eyebrows. “What? What’s wrong?”
The thing looked around and then snapped its fingers.
She felt herself land on something, but her dizziness made it so she was unable to look at her surroundings.
She shook her head to dispel it, which thankfully worked.
The thing from before was now seated at a desk across from her, staring at her with an intense look.
She leaned back in her chair. “Listen teeth guy, do you know how I can leave? My friends are probably really worried and-”
“Give me just a moment, Jax!”
She gritted her teeth. Why did he keep calling her that?
He snapped his fingers, leaving her alone in his…
She scanned the walls, her eyes widening at how big the room was, and everything that was within it.
When the teeth guy returned he wasn’t alone, he had a chess piece with him that was wearing a bucket over its head.
The chess piece lifted the bucket slightly, its eyes widened when they landed on her.
“Jax?”
She stared at him blankly. “Why does everyone keep calling me that? My name’s…”
She trailed off, what was her name?
She breathed heavily. “What’s my name? Why can’t I-”
The chess piece placed a hand on her shoulder, but she slapped it away, stepping back from him and the floating pair of teeth.
“This isn’t funny anymore. One of you has to be an administrator, tell me how to leave.”
The chess piece looked over at the teeth, both of them had a wary look on their faces, despite the two only having eyes.
“What, what is it? Why are you looking at each other like that?” She snapped.
The chess piece hesitated. “You can’t.”
She stared at them for a few moments, before laughing. “This is a joke, right? Some weird elaborate joke? Come on, tell me how I leave.”
They said nothing.
Her smile dropped. “You’re being serious.”
The two nodded, and then they just stared at her.
“So… what is this then? Why can’t I leave?”
The chess piece sighed. “It’s a lot to explain, I promise we’ll explain it all soon, but right now Caine and I need to talk.”
She looked at the teeth. For canine, smart.
“Do you want me to leave?” She asked.
“Yes, but only stay in the circus, don’t go outside, okay?”
She stood from the chair. “You got it, oh before I go, what’s your name? I assume you don’t want me calling you chess piece.”
The chess pieces stared at her for a few moments. “Kinger, what about you?”
She thought for a few moments, she still couldn’t remember her name, so she decided to go with one of her favorite songs. “You can call me Daisy.”
She gave Kinger and Caine a wave before exiting the room.
“This has to be some weird game mechanic. There’s no way I’m actually stuck here…”
She wandered the circus for a bit, trying to make sense of the information she was given, she stopped when she came across a mirror.
She looked at herself in confusion. She was a purple rabbit, with bright yellow gloves, a bright pink overall dress with a white shirt underneath.
“What the hell?”
She touched her face, tugging on it slightly, it hurt.
“Is this…”
“Jax?!”
She jumped and turned, in front of her were four people who were staring at her with wide eyes.
The smallest, a jester had tears in her eyes, she ran forward throwing her arms around Daisy.
Daisy pushed her away, ignoring the hurt in the woman’s eyes.
She backed away from the group. “Who are you people?”
The four all looked at one another, confusion and worry evident.
“Jax-”
“Why does everyone keep calling me that?!” She cut off the ragdoll. “That’s not my name!”
The rag doll raised her hands, her voice softening as she spoke. “Alright, okay, what is your name?”
She sighed. “Daisy.”
The rag doll smiled. “Well, my name’s Ragatha, the girl you shoved earlier is Pomni, the girl with the mask is Gangle, and that’s Zooble.”
Daisy scanned them all. “Nice to meet you, do any of you know how to leave?”
Zooble huffed. “Okay, seriously what is up with him? He sounds the exact same, looks almost the same, but doesn’t remember us?”
Gangle tapped her ribbons against each other. “Did Caine figure out how to bring the abstracted back? Maybe he reset his mind files or something?”
“I mean, maybe, but why would he be dressed like that?”
“Maybe because I’m not a guy? Have you ever thought of that?” Daisy snapped at them.
Everyone was staring at her again, and to be honest Daisy was getting tired of it.
“Can you give me directions on how to leave or not? I don’t have time for this.”
Ragatha sighed. “You can’t leave.”
Daisy could feel one of her ears twitching. “You, chess piece, and teeth guy have told me the same thing. Are you telling me the truth?”
Ragatha nodded.
Before Daisy could respond, Caine and Kinger appeared.
“Caine! What’s going on?” Zooble asked.
Caine looked over at Daisy. “It seems that Daisy here, put the headset back on and got his brain scanned again.”
Daisy blinked. “Wait, wait brainscans?”
Kinger nodded. “Yeah, you’re just a brain scan of your original self.”
Daisy was so lost. “What the fuck?”
“Wait, so is Daisy the same as…” Gangle trailed off.
Caine waved his hand side to side. “Yes and no. Jax and Daisy were both from the same source, but at different times in Leroy’s life.”
Leroy, right that was her name.
Daisy shook her head. “Are you seriously telling me that I’m not actually Leroy? That I’m some weird scan of her brain?”
“Her?” Gangle questioned.
Caine nodded. “Yes, that would be correct.”
Daisy stared off into space, everyone looked at her waiting for some sort of reaction.
“I need to take a walk,” she said.
The others called from behind her, but she ignored them. She needed to process everything that had happened.

How I feel talking to those who missed the obvious transfem coding of Jax:
LIKE… HELLO???
NOTE: THE PHOTOS OF THE MOVIE SCENE WERE NOT TAKEN BY ME! I FOUND THEM IN A DISCORD SERVER OF PEOPLE CHATTING ABOUT THE MOVIE
-the whole scene with Ribbit putting a bow on Jax’s head and saying “your secret is safe with me” after she vented all her problems. (This is like the most obvious reveal)
-Jax said her mother laughed in her face when she revealed something “personal”, which caused an argument. (Then with Ribbit putting the bow on Jax’s head after this was told, hints that the personal thing was her being transfem)
-Gooseworx is trans herself, and has stated that Jax isn’t just her favorite character, but a self insert character, and one she projects her own inner “demons” onto.
-goose states that Jax mainly bullies girls because “He has issues he hasn't worked out with himself yet.”
-Jax was originally designed to be a girl.
-Goose has posted drawings of Jax as a woman
-Jax’s character design is made with pinks and purples which are often feminine colors
-Jax has an overly feminine room he hides from everyone else
-When entering the circus, Jax chose her own name, which choosing/changing your name can be a trans thing
-Jax’s pressure to be super masculine was forced on her by her parents. Her dad who left her, and her abusive mom who wanted Jax to be more like her dad.
-Jax says “My ears and tail are kind of the pinnacle of masculinity.” And then his tail is gone, symbolizing his loss of masculinity or struggle with it.
-goose has drawn Jax saying “I READ SOMEWHERE THAT TAKING PROGESTERONE MAKES YOU BETTER AT GAMBLING” (which is a drug for mtf transition)
-goose has stated that Jax was extremely upset about the maid dress because “He wasn't ready to ask these questions about himself.”
I just finished the TADC finale, and I feel so empty. I liked it a lot, and sobbed like a baby but god. What happened to Jax and her being a trans woman just breaks me. I love her so much, hopefully more fics are released about her and the other abstracted recovering along with her accepting herself as a trans woman. Loved the series finale, it truly wasn’t as bad as many people made it sound.
Update on How to Get Reincarnated Into Yet Another Shitty World

Toko and Komaru get a call from Byakuya who’s asking a favor from them. Meanwhile, Wada, Izuru, and Servant are on their way to meet with Nekomaru. It’ll take two days to get to him and they need to gather supplies.
Toko and Komaru were currently watching TV, Komaru's legs were laid across Toko's lap. The two of them had grown closer after everything that happened in Towa City. They never were apart, they even shared a bed inside of the old hotel they were staying in.
A ring coming from Toko's phone interrupted them.
Komaru sighed. "Ugh, right as we were getting to the best part! Who is it?"
Toko stood. "It's him!"
Komaru turned her attention back to the movie, annoyed.
Toko immediately answered. "U- um hello, is there something you need from me?"
"Huh? Oh, um I suppose I can do that. But uh, are they still in town?"
Komaru looked over at her. "What's he asking us to do?"
Toko shushed her, before turning her attention back to the phone. "U- um okay. Yeah I can do that."
She hung up the phone and turned to Komaru. "I have to go out of town."
Komaru stared at her, confused. "Why?"
Toko turned away. "He wants me to go after a boy whose been traveling with that stupid servant and Izuru Kamukura."
Komaru frowned. "Alright, if that's what he wants then I'm coming with you."
Toko looked at her. "No, he asked m- me specifically you can't come."
Komaru's eyes narrowed. "There's no way I'm gonna let you go alone. Especially with how that servant freak acts. I don't want you doing this alone."
Toko shook her head. "Komaru, t- trust me. This is far too dangerous for someone like you."
Komaru glared at her. "Someone like me? What's that supposed to mean?"
"Komaru-"
"Is it because I don't have a talent? Because might I remind you that I was able to survive-"
"Komaru!"
Komaru stopped talking.
Toko sighed. "Sorry, I'm s- sorry. It's just that the person that the servant guy is accompanying is dangerous. A lot more d- dangerous then the Warriors of Hope. That's why, you can't come with me, if you were to get hurt or worse…"
Toko trailed off.
Komaru grabbed her hands. "Well that settles it then, I'm coming with you."
Toko's eyes widened. "W- what?"
Komaru grabbed the gun she'd been using against all of the Monokumas they'd ran into. "You just said that this guy is more dangerous then the Warriors of Hope, so there's no way I'm gonna let you go alone. You may be an ultimate, but you aren't invincible."
Toko frowned. "B- but what if you get hurt?"
Komaru waved her off. "We'll cross that bridge if we get to it."
"Y- your brother won't want you coming."
Komaru roled her eyes. "He can deal."
Toko fiddled with her fingers. "W- well what about the kids?"
Komaru paused about that, she clicked her tongue. "Right, the kids…"
"I assure you we can take care of ourselves."
The two girls turned to the blue haired boy who stood in the doorway of their bedroom.
"Nagisa, are you sure?" Komaru asked.
Nagisa nodded. "Of course, we've taken care of ourselves before, we aren't helpless."
Komaru smiled, wrapping the boy in a tight hug. "Thank you, thank you! Toko and I will be back as soon as we can be!"
Nagisa huffed, but relaxed into the hug.
Komaru pulled away. "I'll go pack some food for us!"
She ran off leaving Toko and Nagisa in the room.
Toko looked over at him. "D- don't cause any trouble while we're gone. U- understand?"
Nagisa turned away. "We won't, I'll make sure the others are all well behaved."
As he left the room Toko couldn't help but worry about this new mission. She knew one thing for sure though and it was that she'd protect Komaru with her life.

Wada was stuck. He was in a tiny room. He gripped the door knob, attempting to turn it, but it wouldn't budge.
It was locked from the outside.
He began to bang on the door. "Is anyone out there? I'm stuck in here!"
"Why should we let you out?"
Wada froze at the voices he heard.
"Mom? Dad?"
"We're waiting Wada why should we let you out?"
Wada shuddered. "Mom, dad please. I- I'm sorry. Please let me out."
"What are you sorry for?"
Wada didn't know what to say. He didn't know what he'd done wrong. What did he do?
"I- I don't know."
"So you don't think we deserve an apology then?"
Wada's eyes were wide. "No, no, you deserve an apology. I just… I don't know what I did wrong."
"You don't know what you did wrong?"
Wada nodded, as if they could see him. "Yes, if you tell me what I did wrong, I promise I won't do it again."
"You wanna know what you did wrong? You ruined our lives, that's what you did wrong. That's why you're in there. If you want out then apologize."
Wada was shaking. "I'm sorry, m- mom, dad, I'm sorry for ruining your lives. I'm sorry that I was born."
He heard laughter on the other side of the door.
"What do you think? Should we let him out?"
Wada felt his legs begin to buckle, he fell to the ground, tears streaming down his face.
"Please, mama, papa, please let me out."
"Hm I say we keep him in there."
Wada felt himself still when he heard the third voice.
"O- Okazaki?"
"That would be me."
He crawled away from the door, it was in vain and it ended with his back against a wall. He was only a short distance away from the door.
“I think you should let me go in there.”
Wada stared at the door, terrified. “No! Mama, papa, please don’t let her in!”
The door opened.
Wada looked around, as if trying to find a place he could possibly hide.
“Wada.”
Wada looked over and Okazaki was standing above him. She had her fox mask on.
“Okazaki, please don’t-“
She swung her leg kicking him in the stomach.
Wada fell to the ground, he gripped his stomach, tears beginning to spill.
“Okazaki please-“
Another kick.
“What makes you think you don’t deserve this? You got out alive, while the rest of us died. Isono gave up her protection for you, she died so you could live. Manami died so you could live, and yet as soon as you got out you died. Ironic, isn’t it?”
Wada whimpered. “I… I didn’t want to. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know how to-“
“How to move on? Well I’m sure they would’ve known. I’m sure the others have moved on just fine. I wonder if they know that you’re dead. What do you think?”
Wada didn’t answer.
Okazaki shrugged. “Well, it doesn’t matter anyway. It’s not like you’ll see them again.”
Okazaki lifted her leg again.
•••
Izuru awoke to the sound of crying.
He looked over to find Wada sitting at the end of the bed.
He could hear the boy’s sobs, he could tell that he was struggling to breathe.
Izuru got out of the bed and sat down next to him.
Wada turned to look at him, but said nothing, he continued to cry.
Izuru sighed. “Everything’s gonna be fine. You’re safe as long as you stay with Servant and I.”
Wada let out a sob.
The blankets shifted, Izuru turned, Servant rubbed his eyes.
“Mm, is everything okay?”
Izuru looked over at Wada. “He’s upset about something.”
Servant crawled over. “Ah, is everything okay, Wada?”
Wada shook his head, burying his face into his hands.
Izuru and Servant exchanged a look with one another.
Izuru put a hand on his shoulder. “Do you wish to talk about why you’re so upset?”
Wada was shaking, shuddering breaths left him.
Servant sat in front of him. “Perhaps Izuru can help you, so you don’t spiral. If you spiral it will only lead to despair. Tell us, what has happened to make you so upset?”
Wada pointed to his throat.
Izuru nodded. “That is alright, we will sit with you until you are ready to speak.”
Servant looked over at him, Wada truly must have made some impact on Izuru. He had never been like this before, he was a cruel man. He still is, but with Wada he had a soft spot. It was odd, there wasn’t a single moment Servant could think of Izuru being kind before he’d met Wada.
About fifteen minutes later Wada had finally calmed down, his breathing was back to normal and he was talking again.
“S- Sorry, I’m sorry,” he said.
Izuru shook his head. “There’s no need to be sorry, you didn’t do anything wrong.”
Wada only nods in response.
“Could you tell us what happened now?” Izuru asked.
“I- I had a nightmare about the game I was in,” Wada said.
Izuru nodded. “I see… what happened in it?”
Wada wrapped his arms around his stomach. “T- There was this person in the game. Her name was Okazaki, she was a horrible, awful person. She killed my friend.”
He began to wipe the tears from his face. “S- she locked me in a closet, she fractured my ribs. And the worst part was that she took joy out of doing it. I don’t… I don’t get why she did that to us.”
Izuru frowned, he didn’t like the sound of this Okazaki person. He didn’t like the fact that she’d hurt Wada.
“I- in my dream, I was trapped inside of a closet, she came in and-“
He sobbed, unable to finish his sentence.
Servant frowned. “Oh dear, this Okazaki sounds horrible.”
Wada nodded through his tears.
“May I hug you, Wada?”
Servant looked over at Izuru shocked by his question. A hug? Did he hear that correctly?
Wada nodded and as soon as he did Izuru hugged him, tightly.
“It’ll be okay, she isn’t here anymore. And if she was, I promise that she wouldn’t be able to put her hands on you.”
For some reason this made Wada cry even more, it disgusted Izuru, he’d have to clean his suit in the morning. But he found that the need to make Wada feel safe was more important than his disgust.
Eventually Wada fell asleep in his arms, making Izuru tuck him into bed, like a parent would with their child.
Once he was done Servant spoke. “He’s changing you, sir.”
Izuru looked over at him. “I’m aware, is that a problem?”
Servant shook his head. “Of course not, however I’m curious. I may ask, why is it that you act so paternal towards him?”
“Is that how you’d say I’d act with him?”
Servant nodded. “I’d say that’s an accurate description, however I can’t say that’s how you feel. Do you see him as a son? Is that why you act towards him in such a way? But if you do I’d say it’s rather quickly to grow fond of him, afterall we’ve only known him for three or four days. So, if you feel inclined to tell me, why is it that you act towards him in such a way?”
Izuru was quiet, thinking. He’d been protective over him before and now this? And he still didn’t have an answer to it. It was frustrating and interesting at the same time.
“I don’t know,” he finally said.
Servant hummed. “Hm, perhaps it’s what I suggested before? You pity him because he’s weak, so you feel the need to protect him?”
Izuru shook his head. “The answer is still the same as before. There’s more to it than that.”
Servant shrugged. “Very well, let’s get to bed then.”
Izuru nodded and laid down, Servant followed on suit.
When Izuru awoke in the morning he’d find Servant’s arms wrapped around him.
•••
The three of them stopped at another shop again, an actual grocery store this time. Izuru had said it was because they needed more supplies, that it was better to be safe than sorry.
When Wada tried to walk away, Izuru grabbed his arm, he had a firm but gentle grip.
“You cannot go off on your own. Not after what happened last time.”
Wada frowned, but didn’t argue. He knew there’d be no point, Izuru had made up his mind, and he wouldn’t change it.
And so the three of them searched for canned food along with some blankets.
“Kamukura, where are we going after this?”
Izuru looked over at him. “We’re going to where Nekomaru resides. It will take two days to get to him, that’s another reason we are stopping for supplies.”
“Nekomaru?”
Servant grinned. “The ultimate team manager! He’s truly wonderful, however most don’t get to know him as he kills them. But you will get to know a little bit about him!”
Wada looked over at Izuru. “Are you sure he won’t kill me?”
Izuru nodded. “Yes, I swear to you. As long as you are around me they won’t lay a hand on you.”
Wada tilted his head. “Why do they listen to you?”
Izuru picked up a canned item. “They are scared of me.”
Wada frowned, they were scared of him? That didn’t make sense. They were all on the same side weren’t they? And from the way Servant spoke about them it sounded like they were all on the same level as one another. They all saw each other as equals, except for Servant.
“Are you not all the same, according to Servant?”
Izuru stared at him. “What do you mean?”
Wada looked away. “I mean, according to Servant you’re all ultimates, so that makes you equals. So why would they be afraid of someone who’s an equal to them?”
Izuru approached him, holding the can out to him.
Wada grabbed it, unzipping his backpack, and putting it in.
“To answer your question, we are not equals. I am above them.”
Wada looked over. “What?”
“I am above them and I am above Servant. That is not me being unkind, I am just stating the truth. I was created to be above humanity, and they succeeded. You already know that though.”
Wada stared at him. “So what are you saying? Are you considered to be a god or something?”
Izuru shook his head. “No, I would not say I’m a god. I can still bleed, I can still die… however there are some who worship me as if I’m a god. So do with that as you will.”
Wada frowned. “What do you think of that, Servant?”
Servant grinned. “I think he’s correct! He is above us all, he’s above me and you! Then again, any ultimate would be above you! But him saying he isn’t a god I believe is wrong!”
Izuru looked over at him. “Oh?”
Servant’s smile widened, his eyes filled with despair. “You see the word god is subjective, gods are based on belief. But the one thing all gods have in common is that they are above humanity. Which is just like what you said sir! You by all accounts are a god! You are above all of humanity and are worshipped!”
Izuru stared at him. “I see, what a very boring response.”
Wada sighed. “Do you really think that I’m below you?”
Izuru and Servant turned to him.
“I mean, I know Servant thinks I’m not as good as anyone who’s an ultimate, but what about you Kamukura? Do you think I’m beneath you and the other ultimates?”
Wada didn’t know why this felt so important to him. Izuru was a horrible person, his opinion of Wada shouldn’t have mattered. And yet Wada couldn’t help but hope that he saw him as an equal. That he might be special, that he was valuable to someone.
Izuru nodded. “Of course I do, the others are ultimates, and you all things considered are beneath them. If I see them as lower than I, then I would see you the exact same.”
Wada expected that answer, but it didn’t hurt any less. He shouldn’t have hoped that Izuru would see him as an equal, as an exception. But it’d been so long since someone had actually cared. Izuru may have protected him, but he didn’t actually care about him.
“Right,” he said.
Izuru turned away from him and went ahead with Servant, unaware that Wada was still standing in the same spot, lost in his thoughts.
When he finally broke out of them, Izuru and Servant were already gone. He wasn’t too worried though, he knew they were somewhere in the store. No matter he’d find them or they’d find him soon enough.
He went through the aisles, he stopped at the clothing aisle, which was once again mostly picked over.
He found a cute long sleeved women’s blue jumpsuit and a red long sleeved shirt to go with it.
He took them and stuffed them into the backpack.
He froze when he heard a noise, turning, hoping that it was Servant or Izuru, instead he saw a can rolling across the floor.
He looked over in the direction it came from, slowly beginning to approach it.
This is so stupid, this is how people die in horror movies.
He stopped and looked around the large space, there was a check out area and across from it was the clothing aisle he’d just been in.
He heard a loud noise and turned to see a door the led likely to a staff room. There was a small window at the top, and he saw… a woman, she was staring at him.
“Wada.”
Wada jumped and turned to see Servant.
“Ah, Servant you scared me.”
Servant smiled. “My apologies, I should’ve expected such a reaction from someone like you.”
Wada rolled his eyes. “Right, from someone talentless right?”
“Exactly!”
Wada looked at him, annoyed. “Yeah, anyways what are you doing here?”
“I should be asking you that, you’re the one who seperated from us after Kamukura told you to stay near.”
Wada huffed. “You were the ones that left me behind.”
Servant’s smile widened. “Yes well, we simply thought you’d walk behind us. I thought even someone without a talent could follow basic instructions, but I guess not.”
Wada shut his eyes, trying to keep calm. I swear to god I’m gonna punch him.
“Sure, okay. Let’s just find Kamukura.”
Wada went ahead, but heard Servant speak from behind him. “Was there something you saw that made you seperate from us?”
Wada turned back. “What?”
“I’m just curious, the last time you separated from us you found someone. Did you see something or someone again? Is that why you left?”
Wada shook his head. “No, I got lost in my thoughts and then realized you both left.”
Servant hummed. “I see, are you sure you didn’t see anyone?”
Wada’s eyes flitted to the glass window at the top of the staff room door, before turning his attention back to Servant. “No, I didn’t see anyone.”
Servant stared at him for a few moments, but they felt like hours, until eventually he shrugged. “Very well, but Wada?”
Wada frowned. “Yes?”
Servant grinned, his eyes once again swirling with despair. “Just know that you won’t be able to escape us. Even if we don’t find the people who were running your killing game, I’m not sure if Izuru would let you go.”
Wada shuddered at his words. He’s going to kill me when we don’t find them. I can’t have that, not again.
“Servant. Wada.”
Wada’s head practically snapped in the direction of Izuru’s cold tone.
Servant looked over as well, practically glowing, unlike how he’d just been acting with Wada.
“Sir!”
Izuru sighed, taking the chain into his hands. “Wada, why did you wander off?”
Wada shook his head. “I didn’t, you guys left me behind, I was trying to find the two of you after I realized you were gone.”
Izuru sighed again. “Very well, next time pay attention to your surroundings. Now, we need to get going before night fall.”
The three left the grocery store, unaware that two women were following them.
•••
Wada ate the yakitori Izuru had made.
When he finished Izuru spoke. “I want to hear you impersonate someone.”
Wada blinked. “Huh?”
“We’ve been busy these last few days, but now we have time to listen. So I want to hear what you claim to be your talent.”
Wada bit the inside of cheek. “Um okay, who would you like me to mimic?”
“Servant or I.”
“Okay, is there something specific you’d like me to say or-“
“I don’t care what you say, I just want to see whether you were telling the truth about your talent.”
Wada nodded. “Alright, uh how does this sound?”
Izuru tilted his head, Wada sounded exactly like Servant.
Servant clapped his hands. “You sound just like me! How wonderful that you’re good at something, despite not being an ultimate!”
Wada glared at him. “When are gonna let that go?”
Servant smiled. “Maybe when you become an ultimate. But it seems that won’t be happening any time soon.”
Wada could feel his eye twitch, deciding to go back to his normal voice. “Well, what do you think Kamukura?”
Izuru was quiet for a few moments. “I believe that if the world hadn’t ended then you would’ve been an ultimate. I’m actually surprised at how similar your impersonation sounded.”
Wada looked away. “Thank you.”
Izuru stood. “I was simply stating a fact, there’s no reason to thank me.”
He walked away, leaving Servant and Wada alone.
Servant looked over at him. “You did do surprisingly well, I must say. I really thought you were lying. I guess I was wrong.”
Wada didn’t know what to say to that, considering how quickly Servant went from complimenting to insulting him.
When Wada didn’t say anything Servant stood, going in the direction Izuru did.
•••
Izuru was standing outside of the hotel, staring at the other abandoned buildings. There were a few bodies that caught his attention, but that was just how things were.
“Sir, did you mean what you said?”
Izuru turned to look at Servant, who was standing a few feet away.
Izuru beckoned him over and Servant like always listened.
How boring.
He took the chain into his hands. “Yes, I did. If he’d had the chance to he would’ve been an ultimate, there’s no doubt in my mind.”
Servant hummed. “I see, how unfortunate he never got one.”
Izuru was quiet, tracing the chain links. “I think I’ve finally figured out why I feel so attached to him.”
Servant looked at him. “Oh?”
“It’s because he’s interesting to me. Everything has been boring ever since the surgery. He is boring as well, but there are small things he’ll do or say that surprise me. No one else has done that, not her, not you, not your classmates. He is the only thing that has made me feel something other than boredom, despite being below us.”
Servant stared at him. “Will you give him up?”
Izuru was quiet for a few moments. “Yes, he still needs to go back.”
“And if we aren’t able to find the people who had him?”
Izuru hummed. “We’ll cross that road when we get to it. For now let us retire for the night, I’m sure Wada is wondering where we are.”
Servant nodded. “Of course, sir.”
When the two went back to their room they found Wada asleep on the bed already.
Izuru moved him over so he and Servant had more room.
The two of them laid down, sleep taking Servant first, while Izuru was lost in his thoughts.
What would he do with Wada if they hadn’t found the people who had him before? Originally he had planned to kill him, but now that Wada interested him he wasn’t sure what he’d do.
He felt arms wrap around him and looked over to find a sleepy Servant resting against his back.
He flipped over, allowing Servant to rest his head on his chest.
Izuru ran his fingers through Servant’s white hair, it was soft.
He sighed, he would find his answer soon enough, for now he needed to rest. They would be walking more tomorrow.

CWs: mentions of death, murder, and implied mass murder
Izuru, Servant, and Wada make a supply run and go to Kazuichi's warehouse.
About thirty minutes in the three of them stopped at a small store that was completely trashed and abandoned.
Wada looked over at Izuru. "Why are we here?"
Izuru looked over at him. "For supplies, I'll let you go, but if I catch you trying to run away I will make sure you're unconscious for the rest of our trip, understand?"
Wada nodded, and Izuru untied the ropes, allowing him to freely roam without being tied to Servant.
Wada split off from them, but only a couple aisles away. He didn't want Izuru or Servant suspecting that he'd run away.
He mainly was looking for snacks. There wasn't much though, he should've known. Food is the first thing to go in stores once panic begins.
He was able to find a few canned items, which would have to work.
Once he got that he went to find some bottled water, unlike the canned food where there were at least a few things, there was absolutely no water.
He sighed. "Of course there wouldn't be water. Maybe they have some clothes I could use."
If Wada wasn't gonna have a shower for a while he at the very least should have an option of clothes.
As he went to the selective amount of clothing he picked up some deodorant and a backpack and stuffed the items he'd already collected into it.
When he got to the clothing aisle he found a few options. Most of them were girl's clothes, but he'd have to make do. He grabbed few sweatshirts, some pants, and some leggings. He was about to walk away, but his eyes caught on something. It was a dress, a plain blue dress.
He stared at it for a few moments, before grabbing it and stuffing it into his backpack. He didn't know why, but he wanted it, it looked nice.
"You."
Wada turned to the sound of the voice, assuming it was Servant.
But upon turning around he was met with a random woman.
She was crouching, probably trying to make it so she wouldn't be seen by Servant or Izuru.
He stared at her for a few moments, before acting like he was looking for something.
"Are you the person whose been taken by Izuru Kamukura and Nagito Komaeda?"
Nagito Komaeda? Is that Servant's actual name?
Wada nodded, afraid that if he were to speak Izuru would hear.
The woman looked back and forth, before speaking again. "You should come with me then. I'm with the Future Foundation. We can help you, if you continue to stay with those two then-"
"Wada."
Wada jumped, turning around, Izuru and Servant stood there, staring at him.
"Oh my, did we scare you?" Servant asked.
Wada forced a smile. "No, no, you just startled me is all. Um do you guys have everything?"
Izuru nodded. "Yes, and you?"
Wada nodded. "Yeah, I do. Were you able to find anything for that USB?"
Izuru stared at him for a few moments.
Wada was practically holding his breath, he hoped that mentioning the USB would make Izuru focus more on that rather then how nervous Wada looked.
Izuru finally answered. "No, hopefully Kazuichi will have some of the things I need to fix it."
Wada nodded. "Yeah, we can only hope. We should go now right? We can't stay here for long, it's like you said before, we should keep moving."
"Wada."
Wada forced a smile. "Yes?"
"You're a terrible liar," Izuru said.
Wada felt his blood go cold. "W-what? What are you talking about?"
"I know that there's a Future Foundation agent behind the aisle. Move out of the way, I need to dispose of her."
Wada looked back at the aisle, before shaking his head.
Izuru sighed. "Must you make everything difficult?"
Wada looked away. "You can't hurt her."
Izuru scoffed. "You don't get to decide that, go outside with Servant."
"No."
Izuru's gaze sharpened. "Go outside, now."
Wada froze, he went completely quiet. Something seemed to have clicked, because he slowly turned, walking away from the aisle. All of the fight he'd had previously was gone.
Izuru turned to Servant. "Go outside with him."
Servant smiled. "Yes, sir."
Izuru looked over at the aisle. "I know you're there. Come out so I can make this quick, I have errands to run today."
The woman stood, shooting at him as she did, he dodged the bullets, and grabbed her wrist with enough strength to break it.
The woman let out a cry, dropping the gun.
Izuru picked it up.
The woman glared at him. "You aren't going to get away with this. You're going to get caught eventually, you know that right?"
Izuru stared at her, he had nothing to say.
He lifted the gun, aimed for her head, and-
"You care about him, don't you?"
Izuru stopped. "What?"
"That boy, you care about him."
Izuru stared at her, he was genuinely confused by her statement.
"I saw the way you looked at him, when you were confronting him about me. Whether you realize it or not you care for that boy."
"If you think that then you are mistaken. I am only staying with him to get him back to someone. That is all."
The woman chuckled. "Sure, keep telling yourself that, but just know that we're going to get him away from you and Nagito Komaeda. We won't let you drag him down with you disgusting, despair ridden-"
Izuru shot her, annoyed with her ramblings. He didn't care about Wada; he didn't care about anything. Everything was boring, and yet he couldn't help but think back to the feeling he'd felt when Wada had hidden behind him when he had seen Teruteru that morning.
He reminded himself to talk with Servant about it once they got to Kazuichi's.
•••
Servant led Wada outside, as soon as they were out gun fire began to erupt from the building. But Servant wasn't worried, Izuru was the ultimate hope after all.
"Do you think he'll be mad at me?"
Servant looked over at Wada. "Hm?"
Wada was staring at the ground, not making eye contact with Servant. "Do you think Kamukura's gonna be mad at me?"
Servant blinked, this was new. Wada never asked this before when he spoke back to Izuru.
"You've done this before, why are you asking now?"
Wada still didn't look up. "Yeah, I know, but that time was different. Before he wasn't angry, but this time he seemed different."
Servant titled his head. Wada wasn't wrong, when Izuru had realized Wada was talking with someone his demeanor had shifted. It was a slight change, yes, but a change that was noticed by probably everyone in he room.
Servant sighed, he really didn't want to comfort someone like Wada. But seeing Wada so worried made him feel pity for the poor boy, he reminded him of a dog that was left in the rain.
"I'm sure he won't be too angry."
Wada looked up at him finally and Servant was surprised to see that the boy had tears in his eyes. "He won't hurt me then?"
Servant blinked. "I-"
"I've finished up with everything inside."
The two turned to Izuru who was standing outside the building.
The slight change that had happened before was gone. It was as if it had never been there in the first place.
Wada ran over to him. "I'm sorry."
Izuru stared down at him, his face as blank as ever. "For what?"
"For not listening to you, I'm sorry."
Izuru didn't say anything, he was confused. Wada had refused to listen to him before, why was this time any different?
Izuru sighed. "I don't care, there's no need for you to apologize. No harm was done."
Wada looked away. "Okay…"
Izuru stared down at Wada. He seemed to be frightened, much more then he usually was. But he chose not to comment on it.
"We should keep going Kazuichi isn't far from here."
Wada nodded. "Right."
The three kept walking, they didn't run into anymore people from the Future Foundation, making their walk easier.
The three walked for a little while but stopped when Izuru held up his hand.
Wada looked around trying to find the reason why Izuru stopped them, but there was nothing to be found.
That was what he thought until a black and white bear dug itself out of the ground.
Wada jumped back when he saw it.
The bear was half black and half white, it also had a red eye. It reminded him of Monomoko, causing him to step back, he needed some distance from the thing.
Izuru grabbed his hand. "Don't."
Wada was about to say that he wasn't trying to run away, but then another bear dug itself out of the ground from behind him.
Then another, and another, and another. Until a circle of black and white bears had surrounded them.
Wada stared at them, he was terrified, but they didn't seem to be doing anything. They were just standing around them.
"Kazuichi, it's us!" Servant said, happily.
A voice came from one of the bears, it sounded annoyed. "Yeah, I can see that."
Wada turned to look at Servant, he tapped Izuru on the shoulder.
Izuru turned to him. "What?"
Wada pretended to write on his hand and Izuru sighed, handing over the notepad and pen.
Wada scribbled something down. Does he not like you guys?
Izuru scoffed. "He doesn't like Servant. Which is why he's not calling off the Monokumas."
That's what they're called?
Izuru nodded. "Yes, I assume they remind you of the Monomoko you had in your game?"
Wada nodded. Yes, but Monomoko was a rabbit.
Izuru tilted his head. A rabbit? Well at least whoever was inspired by Enoshima had some sense of differentiability.
"Why exactly are you here?" Kazuichi ask. "And who's the little guy? Never seen him before."
Izuru sighed. "Kazuichi, we are just here to ask you some questions. Once we are done, we will leave."
There was a pause and then all at once the Monokumas dove back into the ground.
Izuru turned to them. "Come on, his warehouse is just up ahead."
Servant sighed. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say he hates me, what a despairing thought."
Wada wanted to say that considering the fact that the Monokumas were brought out because of him Kazuichi most definitely hated him. But he decided against it, he didn't want to hear Servant rambling about hope, despair, or how he thought Wada was worthless.
True to what Izuru said a warehouse came into view a few minutes later. It looked old and rundown. Definitely not a place you could building things in.
However, Wada was proven wrong when they went inside. Because what he saw was an entire factory with machines that were pumping out all kinds of Monokumas, big and small.
This wasn't disturbing really, Wada found it more concerning, considering the obvious safety hazards. He didn't know how Kazuichi could work in something like this.
A man with pink hair that went slightly past his shoulders came out from… somewhere it was honestly hard to tell with how much stuff was piled around.
He had goggles on, a black jumpsuit, and oil stains all over him.
"What do you guys want?" He asked.
"Kazuichi!" Servant exclaimed.
Kazuichi didn't look in his direction. "Izuru, what was it you wanted to ask me?"
"I have two things to ask; did you host a killing game as of recently?"
Kazuichi shook his head. "Nah, I've been busy making these guys."
He patted one of the Monokumas. "They look good, right? I'm hoping to impress Miss Sonia with them."
Izuru ignored his response. "Do you have any supplies I can use for fixing a USB?"
Kazuichi nodded. "Of course! Do you want me to fix it?"
Izuru shook his head. "I'd rather fix it myself."
Kazuichi sighed. "Fine, fine. But you won't take long here, right?"
"We'll just take the supplies and work on it outside of here," Izuru said.
Kazuichi laughed. "You can't be serious, work here. I insist, it'll be easier, besides if you mess it up you won't have any of the other tools you'll need."
Izuru huffed, he wouldn't make a mistake with something as simple as making a USB. He wasn't someone who made mistakes. But if Kazuichi was insisting he should work here then he knew that Kazuichi wouldn't stop harassing him about it.
"Fine. But because you're insisting I don't want to hear any complaints about how long we're staying, understand?"
Kazuichi hesitated for a few moments before finally nodding. "Alright but keep him away from me."
Kazuichi nodded over at Servant who shook his head.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you hate me, Kazuichi!"
Kazuichi didn't say anything in response.
Izuru grabbed his chain. "Come." As the two were walking away, Wada was about to follow only for Izuru to hold up his hand. "Make sure to watch Wada, Kazuichi, he cannot leave the factory without my permission."
Wada's jaw practically dropped. There was no way Izuru was gonna leave him alone with another remnant, not with how horrible the last one went.
But it seemed Izuru was serious because he walked away.
Wada watched after them, his mouth still open in shock.
Kazuichi also seemed shocked as his mouth was agape, but then he turned to Wada.
"So… who exactly are you? I've never seen you before."
Wada bit the inside of his cheek, this one didn't seem as bad as Teruteru.
"My name is Masanari Wada, Kamukura and Servant think I escaped a killing game one of you guys set up. They're trying to find out who it is so they can give me back to them."
Kazuichi rubbed the back of his head. "Yeesh, that sucks. Well, I hope for your sake that it wasn't Mikan, she's brutal."
Wada shook his head. "Ah no, it wasn't her. I don't remember the people who held me there very well. All I remember is that in the end a man talked with me."
"People?" Kazuichi asked.
Wada nodded. "Yes, it was a group."
Kazuichi hummed, seemingly lost in his thoughts.
"Um-"
"Well, nothing you can do right now. Come with me, we can talk while I work. I haven't talked to anyone in the last two weeks."
Kazuichi went ahead, leaving Wada to follow.
•••
Izuru and Servant found what looked to be an office area, that had plenty of tools.
"Wow! You were able to find the room in no time, sir!"
Izuru sighed. "Yes, the layout of the building was quite easy to figure out, how boring."
He sat down in a chair, Servant standing beside him.
He took the USB out of his pocket.
Servant's eyes widened. "Oh my, that doesn't look to be in good shape!"
Izuru nodded. "Yes, but I'll be able to fix it. It's one of my talents, after all."
Servant grinned. "As expected of the ultimate hope."
As Izuru worked, Servant began fidgeting with his chain, the sounds of chain links clinked together.
Izuru huffed, turning to him. "What is it?"
Servant blinked. "Pardon?"
"I know you want something Servant, so tell me what it is?"
Servant looked away. "I couldn't possibly request such a thing. Not from someone as wondrous as you."
Izuru scoffed. "You are bothering me, so tell me what is it that you want?"
Servant sighed. "If you insist, then could you please keep hold of my chain? It helps keep me grounded, it helps keep me from spiraling too much."
Izuru looked over at him. "I have to fix this, and I cannot do it with one hand. So no, I cannot fulfill your request."
Servant smiled. "Of course, sir, I apologize for even asking such a thing."
Izuru didn't respond, instead going back to working on the USB.
Servant sat down next to his chair, watching as he worked, the links of the chains still clinking together whenever he moved.
Izuru finally sighed. "If you are so desperate for me then you can hold onto my leg."
Servant's eyes lit up. "Really?"
Izuru nodded, still working on the USB. He felt Servant wrap his arms around his leg, resting his head against the side of his thigh.
"Thank you for letting me, a worthless piece of trash have the honor of touching you. You're truly kind, sir. Ah, how lucky I am to be given such an opportunity."
Izuru didn't comment, he didn't want to entertain Servant's chatter about how worthless he was.
If he were to be honest, he didn't see Servant as worthless, not because he cared, but because no one was truly worthless. That was just a fact, everyone has a purpose in life. But he knew that he would never get through to Servant. Servant had very strict beliefs that couldn't be changed and him being worthless was one of them.
He continued to work, ignoring Servant's meaningless and boring words. Until he mentioned Wada.
"Ah and Wada, he's rather odd, isn't he?" Servant asked.
Izuru looked down at him. "I actually had a question for you about him."
Servant tilted his head. "Oh? Someone as special as you shouldn't need my help, but if you require it, what is it?"
"This morning, I was… confused about something. And I need your input; you understand emotions more than I do."
Servant frowned. "Ah, I see. Did you feel something that wasn't boredom?"
"In a way yes, I was still bored, but I felt something along with that boredom and it had to do with Wada."
Servant's eyes were filled with curiosity. "It had to do with Wada. What was it that you felt?"
"That is the problem, I don't know. I need you to tell me."
Servant nodded. "Very well, describe what it was like."
Izuru was quiet for a few moments, tinkering with the USB, trying to find the right words to describe the feeling he'd had.
"It was this morning, when Wada hid behind me when he'd seen Teruteru. I wanted to keep him close to me so Teruteru couldn't get to him, and I knew for certain that if Teruteru tried something I would have harmed him."
Servant brought his gloved hand up to cover his mouth. "Oh, well it sounds like you were feeling protective over him."
Izuru paused his working. Protective? He felt protective over Wada? No Servant must have been mistaken, would he protect people? Yes, but any time he did it was because he had to. Not because he wanted or needed to. The idea that he felt like he needed to protect Wada seemed… strange.
"Are you sure that's what I felt Servant?" Izuru asked.
Servant shrugged. "That's what it sounds like."
Izuru went back to working. "I don't understand why I'd feel the need or want to protect him though. I've never felt that way before when I had to protect others. Why is it different with him?"
Servant frowned. "I don't know, perhaps it is because he's so weak and pitiful?"
Izuru thought about it. Wada was definitely weak and most would pity him. Wada being weak probably had something to do with it, but there was more to it then that. He just didn't know what.
He was quiet, lost in his thoughts as he finished with the USB.
He patted Servant's head. "Thank you."
Servant looked up at him in awe, his face flushed. "Ah, thank you sir."
Izuru nodded. "I am done with the USB we should meet back up with Wada and Kazuichi."
Servant nodded, standing, holding the chain out to Izuru, who like always took it into his hands.
•••
Wada watched Kazuichi work on one of the Monokumas, keeping a safe distance from the both of them.
He didn't know what to make of Kazuichi just yet, but he knew that he hated the Monokumas, they reminded him way too much of Monomoko.
"So," Kazuichi started, "What do you think of Izuru?"
Wada sighed. "I find him uncomfortable. Earlier today, I was scared that he'd hurt me."
Kazuichi glanced over at him. "Oh? Why's that? Did he seem like he was gonna hurt you?"
Wada thought back to when he'd refused Izuru. "No, he just seemed angry."
Kazuichi shook his head. "I doubt he'd hurt you, he'd only do that if he felt like you were a threat to his safety. And, no offense, but just by looking at you anyone would be able to tell that you aren't a threat. But I'm curious, why did you think he was gonna harm you?"
Wada frowned. "I…" He knew why but admitting that to a random person wasn't exactly something he felt comfortable with. "When he was speaking, his eyes reminded me of someone I used to know."
Kazuichi let out a hum. "I see, well like I said before he won't hurt you, not unless you try to hurt him anyways."
Wada nodded. "I'll take your word for it." He was quiet for a moment. "Can I ask you a question about Servant?"
The sound of metal clanking together stopped. "Sure, what is it?"
Wada sighed. "You've known him for a long time, so I was wondering was he always… like this?"
Kazuichi huffed. "If you mean a hope obsessed freak, then yeah. He's always been like that. Even when we were in school."
Wada looked at the broken Monokuma. "Do you hate him?"
Kazuichi turned to look at him. "I wouldn't say I hate him, necessarily. He's just weird, and I don't like being around him, but hate? No, I don't hate him."
Wada nodded. "I don't understand why you guys decided to do all of this. Why would you hurt so many people?"
Kazuichi shook his head. "You wouldn't get it."
Wada was quiet, Kazuichi's words reminded him of Hasegawa.
He shuddered, thinking about him and his final words.
"We're back!"
Wada and Kazuichi looked over at Izuru who was holding Servant's chain.
"Did you get it fixed?" Wada asked.
Izuru nodded. "Yes, we should find a place to stay for the night. Kazuichi, do you know any areas near here that are safe?"
Kazuichi hummed. "Mm, there's a place about twenty minutes from here."
Servant grinned. "How kind of you! Thank you for telling us."
Kazuichi grimaced. "Yeah, yeah, have a good night."
The three began to leave only for Kazuichi to call out.
"Wada, remember what I said, alright?"
Wada turned to look at him, Kazuichi's safety goggles were off, allowing Wada to see his eyes.
They were hot pink, filled with despair.
The two stared at one another for a moment, before Wada nodded.
He turned back to find Izuru and Servant were already outside, he ran ahead to catch up.
•••
"Sir, please. We need to help him! If we don't then-"
"Then he'll fall into despair as well, I know. But, our main focus is capturing the remnants. That boy is a second priority."
"How could you say that?! He-"
"Tell me, Makoto, is the reason you want to save him because you're scared of him becoming yet another victim to the remnants? Or is it because he was also apart of a killing game?"
Makoto stared at the man. "I… Kyosuke, what matters is getting him away from Kamukura and Komaeda. We can't let-"
"Enough, I told you that our goal is to catch the remnants. That boy as much as he may intrigue you is not on our main list of priorities. Do you understand me?"
Makoto nodded. "Yes, sir."
Kyosuke turned. "Good, now get back to work."
Once Makoto was out of his office, he practically ran to Byakuya's room.
He opened the door, with a loud bang, causing the man to jump.
Byakuya turned, glaring. "Makoto, you better have something important tell me barging into my room like this."
Makoto nodded. "I do, I swear. Do you remember that boy we found out who has been traveling with Kamukura and Komaeda?"
Byakuya stared at him. "Yes, did he die?"
Makoto shook his head. "No, he's still alive. They're still trying to find out who put him in a killing game."
Byakuya scoffed. "I still think he's lying to try and live longer."
Makoto sighed. "Regardless of what you think, I need a favor from you."
Byakuya raised one of his eyebrows. "A favor?"
Makoto nodded. "Yes, I need you to talk with Toko."
Byakuya scowled. "Absolutely not."
Makoto folded his hands together. "Come on Byakuya, please? This will be the last time I ask you for a favor, I promise!"
Byakuya rolled his eyes. "I higly doubt that."
"Please Byakuya! We need to at least try to save him, Toko's our best bet."
Byakuya huffed. "Fine."
Makoto's smiled. "Really?"
Byakuya grabbed his phone. "Yes, and if she fails at the very least she'll stop harassing me."
Makoto pumped his fist into the air. "Thank you! You don't know how much this means."
Byakuya waved him off. "Yes, yes, does Kyosuke know about this?"
Makoto looked away.
Byakuya sighed. "I won't say anything."

CWs: strangulation, violence, discussions of death, dead bodies, and threats of murder
An AU in which the homeowner used to know the pale visitor before the cataclysm. (This fic was based on a twitter post)
"So why are you here?"
He turned to his friend, unable to respond.
His friend sighed. "I can't help you if you don't tell me what's wrong."
He refused to say anything, not after the day he just had.
His friend stood, moving to his kitchen. When he came back he was holding two beers. He handed one to him.
He sighed, taking a sip of his. "My wife left me."
His friend was quiet. "Oh… I'm sorry."
He traced the rim of the bottle. "Thanks, I suppose. I wish I knew what I did wrong, what I did to make her want to leave."
His friend shrugged. "Maybe she just didn't want to be with you anymore. Sometimes there's nothing no one has done wrong necessarily, it's just the fact that everyone changes. Sometimes when people change they also change their lives, who they have around them, who they're with."
He stared at the him.
His friend held up his hands, smiling awkwardly. "Of course that's just my thought process. I'm not her, so I can't exactly say for certain if that's what she was thinking!"
He glared at him, standing. "I think it's best I go."
His friend frowned. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean-"
He was at the door, turning to him. "Have a nice night."
That night he would sit at what used to be him and his wife's house, drinking. He'd take a sip of his beer, thinking of his former friend's words.
•••
The homeowner hated to admit it, but his neighbor had been right. He had to let other people in. Especially with the reports of FEMA and supposedly a tall visitor who had been roaming the streets.
So far he'd let three people in, a man who had been kicked out of a bar, a beard man, and a woman with her dead husband.
He turned, about to retire to his room, only for a loud knock to come from behind him.
He let out a sigh. I guess there's still more.
He looked through the peephole and froze at who he saw.
A pale man, who was extremely skinny, and very tall. He was wearing no shirt and only had black pants on.
The worst part though, was the fact that the Homeowner recognized him. He was one of his old friends, they'd had a falling out the year before, shortly after his wife left him. And ever since then he couldn't stop thinking about the stuff his former friend had said to him. It was like the words played on a loop.
And now here he was standing at his doorstep, an eerie, pearly white smile on his face.
The homeowner wanted to say something, but he couldn't figure out what. How was he supposed to tell this man that he'd been thinking about what he'd said for the past year?
The pale man spoke. "How's it going here? Is everything okay?"
The homeowner blinked, snapping out of his daze. "Yes, everything is fine. But-"
"Are you alone?" The pale man asked.
The homeowner stared at him. "No, I'm not alone. Do-"
The pale man's grin became a thin line, making the homeowner freeze. It felt uncomfortable.
"You're lucky tonight. Who knows what will happen tomorrow."
With those words the pale man walked away, into the night, leaving the homeowner to stare after him.
He felt sick, his former friend, he'd spoken to just a year ago was no more. That much was obvious, and it didn't help that he still had the same face and voice. The man he'd practically been obsessing over had shown up at his door. No longer a human, but a visitor.
He rushed to the bathroom and vomited into the toilet.
The woman who sat with her husband said nothing, she simply watched him.
When he was done he turned to the woman. "I… I'm sorry."
She shook her head, turning her attention back to her dead husband.
The homeowner went to his bedroom, forcing himself to lay down, despite knowing that he wouldn't sleep that night. He'd be haunted just like he was every day and every night of the words his old friend had once said to him. Except now he had to deal with the fact that the man he'd once considered a friend was no more.
•••
It had been two days since the pale man had last visited and FEMA had taken almost everyone he had. Not only that but, he'd let in Visitors, the only people he had now was a moody teenager, his neighbor's daughter, and the man from the bar.
He heard a loud knock on the door, he looked through the peep hole, hoping that it would be someone he could let in, only for him to go rigid upon seeing the pale man once again.
"Still holed up in here I see… what did you think of that guy? The one in the suit?"
The homeowner stared at him, it was uncanny.
"I know you're in there, how about you answer?"
The homeowner sighed. "I don't know."
The pale visitor's grin seemed to widen. "Why feel at all? Everything's already been decided for us. A blessing, wouldn't you say? Or do you want to fix it all by yourself?"
The homeowner stared once again. "Do you remember me?"
The pale visitor tilted his head. "Remember you? Of course, we talked just two nights ago, how could I forget such a recent conversation?"
The homeowner shook his head, as if the man could see him. "No, before that."
The pale man's grin wasn't as wide as before, but it was still there. "Have we met before?"
The homeowner nodded. "Yes."
The pale man was quiet, his grin no longer there. "Hm, I have no memory of such a thing. No matter, are you alone?"
"No," the homeowner said, disappointed that the pale man didn't remember him or their past.
The pale man looked annoyed. "Still scrambling to survive in this new world, are we? Why? Dogs rule the world now. And only dogs survive here. You understand what I mean, yes? Things will never go back to the way they were. Life changed. You're falling out of rhythm. Next time we meet, things will be...interesting."
With those parting words the pale man departed, leaving the homeowner once again alone at the door.
He slid against the door, letting out a sigh, whether it was relief, or sadness, he didn't know.
A few more people would come that night, some he'd turn away, some he'd allow in, but the night ended with him in bed. Where he'd lay and reminisce the times before his friend had become a monster.
•••
Four more nights passed, and now the homeowner was left with the moody teenager and his neighbor's daughter. FEMA had once again taken everyone in his home, except for the two children.
He was thankful that they hadn't been taken, but at the same time scared for their safety. If FEMA came again they'd take them next. He couldn't let that happen, he-
A knock on the door interrupted his thoughts.
He turned and looked into the peephole, one of his worst fears was back again. The pale man.
He still had that damn smile on his face, like he didn't have a care in the world, or what was left of it anyway.
"You feeeel that? Change is haunting you. ...So am I. And now one of your ilk is deathless. All because of a word. One single word. ... But what a word it is! You know who I mean, yes? Strange things happen around you."
The homeowner sighed. "I don't know how I feel."
The pale man smiled. "Hm, I see. How about I help you then? Let's do a gamble, if there are at least two of US inside you'll open the door for me. Dogs reside in them now."
The homeowner was silent for a few moments. "Do dogs reside in you?"
The pale man's grin never faltered. "Maybe, you might find out soon. So, are you alone?"
The homeowner shook his head. "I'm not alone."
The pale man chuckled. "It seems our gamble has paid off."
Before the Homeowner could ask what he meant the door began to shake as the knocks became louder and louder. He backed away, raising his gun.
When the door finally broke down, he was about to pull the trigger, but when he saw the face of the pale man, he knew he couldn't do it. He wouldn't be able to, it wore the face of someone he used to know. Someone he was once close with.
The pale man grabbed the gun from his hands, tossing it aside, and lifted the Homeowner up.
The Homeowner stared at him. "You really don't remember me, do you?"
The pale man didn't answer.
The Homeowner spoke, hoping to get him to remember something. "We were friends. We first met at a bar where I got too drunk. You took me back to your place and let me stay for the night. You were one of my only friends, I came to you after my marriage fell apart. And then…" He trailed off for a few moments. "Please you must remember something. Anything, we knew each other for years, the memories of us can't be gone."
The pale man stared at him. "Before the cataclysm?"
The Homeowner nodded, he felt hope. "Yes!"
The pale man's grin widened. "I am not the same, don't you know that?"
And as fast as that tiny bit of hope came it shriveled up into nothingness. "I know, but-"
"Nonetheless I can't help, but feel drawn to you. Which is why…"
The pale man lifted the Homeowner up, gripping his throat.
"I'll take you with me."
The Homeowner scratched at his arms, but to no avail, the pale man's grin widened.
"Yes, you'll come with me, I like that idea."
Everything was spinning and yet the only things the homeowner could think of was the girls in his house, he hoped that the pale visitor would spare them. And how he wished he hadn't ended things with his old friend. Maybe then this wouldn't have happened, maybe if he'd stayed then his friend wouldn't have become a monster.
He weakly called out. "Don't… don't hurt them, please."
The intruder simply stared at him, as he increased his grip.
Everything was starting to become fuzzy, and for a moment he saw him, his friend, smiling at him, a gentle smile.
The Homeowner gave him a weak smile, before fully losing consciousness.
•••
If anyone is wondering why the Intruder still came in despite the fact that the girls were in the house it’s because in the demo when the intruder asks if the homeowner’s alone and if the homeowner answers no and the little girl is the only person inside the Intruder will still come into the house. Idk if they changed it in the full game, but I decided to use that for this fic. I hope someone enjoyed this :)
CWs: cannibalism (this is because of Teruteru), violence, attempted murder, implied suicide, disturbing behavior
Izuru, Servant, and Wada make their way over to Teruteru’s restaurant but not before running into some trouble alone the way.
The three had been walking for an hour and a half.
They continued to pass ruined buildings, but they never passed other people, none that were alive anyway.
Wada sat down, causing Izuru and Servant to stop and turn.
"We have to keep going," Izuru said.
Wada wrote on Izuru's notepad. Just a small break. Just ten minutes, please.
Izuru shook his head. "No, it's far too dangerous to even consider taking a break out here. We're only an hour away from Teruteru's restraunt."
Wada lifted his head. Please Kamukura, just a couple minutes.
Izuru gazed down at him. "I said no, now come on, we need to keep going."
Wada sighed, forcing himself to stand, but as he did someone grabbed him from behind.
He stood, frozen.
Izuru huffed, upon realizing the boy he was trying to return was being used as a hostage.
"Oh my," Servant said, a smile on his face.
Wada attempted to look up only for a gun to be pressed against the side of his head.
"Don't move." The man said.
Wada complied, he didn't think he could even fight against the man if he wanted to.
Izuru stared at the man. "I ask that you give him back to us. He's rather important."
"Exactly why I'm doing this. I'll take him if you don't come with me. Under the orders of the Future Foundation you must come with us."
Wada sat there. What the hell is a future foundation?
Izuru huffed. "How boring. Wada, do you now see why I told you we had to keep moving?"
Wada didn't answer, annoyed that Izuru seemed to not care about the situation at all.
"Well, come on. Obviously the boy means something if you haven't killed him yet! So turn yourselves in already."
Izuru looked down at his watch.
Wada gritted his teeth. Can you do something?!
As if a god heard Wada's thoughts a piece of a building fell on top of the man, barely missing Wada.
Blood splattered, getting all over his face and clothes.
Wada stared at the dead man, his body was smushed, the only thing Wada could clearly see was his arm sticking out from under the piece of rubble. His arm was bent unevenly, his bone was sticking out of his wrist.
He was horrified, he felt like he was gonna vomit, and yet he couldn't take his eyes away from the grisly sight in front of him.
Someone pulled him away from the body, forcefully turning him to face Izuru and Servant.
Izuru let his hands fall away from his shoulders. "Let's keep moving."
Wada could only muster a nod. He picked up the notepad and pen, attempting to distract himself from what had just happened.
Izuru turned to Servant. "Help me keep an eye on him."
Servant's eyes brightened. "Ah, an order to follow from the ultimate hope? How lucky I am!"
"How predictable." Izuru said.
Servant laughed. "I'm sorry for boring you!"
Izuru huffed, turning to Wada. "Come here."
Wada stared at him for a few moments, hesitating, but in the end walked over.
Izuru pulled out a piece of rope, tying Servant and Wada's wrists together.
Wada stared down at it. He lifted the notepad, pointing to it.
Izuru took it from him. "You won't be needing this. I'll give it back to you once we get to the restraunt."
Wada wanted to tell him that he was being an asshole, he tried to say something, but nothing came out.
This is the longest this has happened. Why can't I just speak?
Izuru turned away, holding Servant's chain in his hand and began walking.
Wada walked alongside Servant, Izuru was in front of them.
Wada sighed. "S- servant."
He froze, he could speak again.
Servant looked over at him. "How wonderful you're able to speak again!"
Wada nodded. "Yes, I have a question for you."
"Oh? What could someone like you have to ask?"
Wada raised one of his eyebrows. "What does that mean?"
"I just mean what does a talentless worthless person such as yourself have to ask me?"
Wada bit the inside of his cheek to stop himself from snapping at the man. "What is a future foundation?"
Servant smiled. "Ah, they are noble people who are attempting to stop us, the remnants of despair and bring hope back to the world! I hope they will succeed, despair is such a vile thing. If only that woman had been stopped earlier, maybe then none of this would've happened."
Wada frowned. "You seem to love hope a lot."
Servant nodded. "Of course I do! Hope is a wonderous and beautiful thing!"
"Then why is it that you're apart of the remnants, why are you helping them cause despair?" Wada asked.
Servant's smile widened. "Because if there's more despair then that means an even greater amount of hope will arise! And if that's the case then soon enough hope will blossom and everyone will be able to feel it! Everyone should be able to feel hope! You've felt it before haven't you? Before you were forced into a killing game, you must've felt it at some point!"
Wada was quiet, he thought about Servant's words. He'd felt hope plenty of times in his life, when he went to his first foster family, when he went to his second, but eventually he lost hope in that, no one ever wanted him. He felt hope when he would watch Isono's streams, but then she died, he had rewatched her videos when he was set free. He felt hope when Tsuno said she'd be his big sister, that she'd be his family, but then she was taken away. He felt hope when he became friends with Isono, Tsuno, Hama, and Watari.
"Looking back on my life, I think the times I felt hope the most was when I was in the killing game."
Servant looked over at him, his head tilted. "Oh? Why would that give you hope?"
Izuru hadn't said a word, but he had been listening, and when he heard Wada say that he couldn't help, but feel curious at what his answer would be.
"The people in there gave me hope. They were beautiful, wonderful, amazing people. I… wish they were still here."
Izuru had to say he was surprised at that answer. It was… unexpected, finding hope in people within a game where you were pitted against one another was odd to say the least. But, he supposed it didn't matter because in the end they did exactly what was expected. They killed one another. But still the fact that out of all the moments in Wada's life the killing game was where he felt the most hope was very telling to Izuru. Even if Wada had amnesia he should've at least had some sort of feeling when he thought back to his life before the killing game. It implied that something must've been seriously wrong in Wada's life prior.
Servant smiled. "I see, it's a shame that they're gone, but at least they were able to bring you some hope before they died!"
Wada didn't respond to that, instead changing the subject. "Why do you wear a glove on one hand, but not the other?"
Before Servant could answer, Izuru interrupted. "We are here."
Wada looked at the restraunt, it looked horrible, but compared to the other buildings around it might as well have been considered five stars.
Izuru turned to Wada. "I don't suggest eating his food."
Wada wanted to ask why, but before he could a chubby man with brown hair and a bloody apron came out.
"Izuru! What do I owe the pleasure?"
Wada immediately backed up, trying to give himself as much distance as he could from the man.
"Hello Teruteru, I was simply wondering if you had been running a killing game at all as of late?"
Teruteru shook his head. "Nope, not my style. Why're you asking?"
Izuru turned, still holding the chain in his hand. "We found a boy who went through one recently. Servant and I are looking into all of the male remnants to see if they've held any killing games as of late. If they did we'll be returning him to them."
Teruteru looked over and locked eyes with Wada and he couldn't help but shudder at the look in them. His gaze was filled with… hunger, hunger and sorrow.
Teruteru looked back at Izuru and grinned. "Well, I'm sure I could take him off your hands if you're desperate. The others will certainly understand."
Izuru scoffed. "You know for a fact that isn't true. Now, if there's nothing else you have to say, I suppose it's time for us to depart. We need to find a place to stay for nightfall."
Teruteru shook his head. "Nonsense, stay the night here, I have room for all three of you. Granted Servant will have to sleep on the floor, but that's fine with him right?"
Servant nodded. "Of course! If that's what any of my fellow ultimates wish of me I'll gladly do so."
Izuru stared at him, he was quiet for a few moments. "Very well."
Wada's eyes widened, he couldn't believe what he was hearing. Izuru had just warned him to not eat any of Teruteru's food, so why exactly were they planning to stay the night there?!
Before Wada could object, Izuru and Servant had already began following Teruteru inside, forcing Wada to follow behind them.
When Wada went inside the only words he could describe the scene he was met with was sickening and disturbing.
There were a ton of tables in the restraunt and at those tables sat a lot of people. People who were eating, which would've been fine, that wasn't the part that was making Wada uncomfortable. It was the fact that many of them were sobbing as they ate, their eyes filled with despair.
Wada could hear a few people talking as they ate.
"This is so good, it's so delicious."
"I don't care what this is, I'm so hungry."
"I… I can't believe I'm eating this."
Wada didn't know what exactly these people were eating, but just from their reactions he knew that he didn't want to find out.
Servant seemed to notice him staring. "They're filled with despair, it's not surprising, most people are these days. If only they could realize that hope would save them, how unfortunate that they'll probably die."
Wada wanted to ask what Servant meant, only for him to fall flat on his face.
"Oh, I suppose should've mentioned that we were beginning to walk upstairs," Servant said, a small smile on his face.
Wada shot a glare at him, Izuru and Teruteru were staring, waiting for him to get up.
He stood, dusting himself off.
"Be more careful," Izuru said.
Wada simply nodded, making sure to watch his step, knowing that he wouldn't be able to trust Servant to make him aware of any changes or obstacles as they walked.
They made it to the first room, Teruteru held the door open. "Here you go Izuru."
Teruteru turned to Wada. "You'll have your own room."
Wada frowned. "I- I don't think that's a good idea."
Teruteru waved him off. "Nonsense, I insist."
Wada shook his head. "What about Servant?"
Teruteru frowned. "Oh my, were you not listening earlier. I already said that he'd be sleeping on the floor."
Wada stared at him. "No, I think he should share a room with one of us."
Servant looked over at Wada, confused. "It's really no trouble, someone like me doesn't even deserve a bed."
Wada ignored him. "He'll stay in my room or Izuru's. It's inhumane to make him sleep on the ground."
Teruteru clenched his fists. "Is that so? Well as kind as that sentiment is, might I remind you that you are a guest in my restraunt. So keep your filthy mouth-"
"It is fine, he can sleep in my room," Izuru said.
Teruteru looked over at him. "You don't have to. He's already agreed to-"
"It is fine. If it gets you and Wada to stop arguing then I shall let him share the room with me."
Teruteru hesitated, but nodded. "Very well," He turned to Wada, "Come along, let's get you to your room."
Wada looked over at Izuru, who untied the ropes.
He looked over at Teruteru. "He shall also share a room with us."
Wada knew it was weird, but he felt relief upon hearing that he wouldn't have to follow Teruteru.
Teruteru forced a smile. "Of course, I'll get all of you some food."
Izuru glared down at him. "Have it be normal, the taste of your… special items aren't of my taste."
Teruteru nodded. "Of course."
With that he walked off.
Izuru turned to Wada and Servant. "Get inside."
The three went inside the room. It wasn't the greatest, but it would have to work.
There was a large bed as well a small desk, and a door, but that was about it.
Izuru let go of Servant's chain. "Go sit, Servant."
Servant did as he was told, Wada watched as Izuru sat down on the ground.
"Oh you don't need to check, sir. Someone such as yourself shouldn't worry yourself with trash like me."
"Quiet."
Servant shut up.
Wada watched as Izuru checked Servant's legs.
He clicked his tongue. "We need to change your bandages, come."
The two went into the bathroom, leaving Wada to sit alone. And once he was he put his head in his hands.
I died, there's no way I didn't because this couldn't have happened in my world. I had to have died, but if that's true then that means… I've lost them.
He had to stop himself from crying, he didn't have time to mourn.
I have to focus on surviving. I've been given a second chance and I can't waste it. Not like before.
He took a deep breath, composing himself.
I have to live. I won't let them down this time.
•••
"Take them off," Izuru said.
Servant took off his pants and sat down on the toilet. He'd began to bleed through his bandaids.
The night before Izuru had tended to his wounds after Wada had fallen asleep. Ah Wada, he must've been confused when Izuru mentioned changing out his bandages. Or maybe he didn't care, that would be a shame, considering that the two of them were practically equals when it came down to their worthlessness.
Izuru wrapped new bandages around his legs, sighing as he did. "We will have to find supplies tomorrow, before we stop off at Kazuichi's."
Servant frowned. "Sir, you shouldn't have to. Doing that will only stall us on finding out who had Wada."
"You will slow us down if we don't properly address your wounds. And seeing how Wada is I think he will begin to rebel if I try to leave you behind. Which I could handle if need be, but I'd rather him comply, it will be less difficult. Besides, he seems to be much more comfortable around you then me."
Servant tilts his head. "Hm, I wonder why that is…"
"How I act makes him uncomfortable. You also make him uncomfortable of course, but it is slightly less then when he's around me."
Servant frowned. "How odd, I suppose he might find comfort in me because we are about the same."
Izuru huffed. "Enough of the worthlessness talk."
Servant rubbed his head. "Haha, I'm sorry, sir."
Izuru didn't answer, instead he stood, taking the chain into his hands.
"I'm sure Teruteru is done preparing our meal. I would prefer we don't leave Wada to deal with him on his own."
Servant nodded. "Of course, we wouldn't want that. He's not one of us, afterall."
•••
That night the three shared a bed. It was uncomfortable, Wada was to the right side. His back faced away from Servant, who was between him and Izuru.
He sat there, he couldn't bring himself to sleep. He was terrified of the nightmares he could have. And so he stayed awake, listening to the soft snoring that came from Servant.
He thought of the food he'd eaten (after Izuru checked it) it had been surprisingly good especially when they were in the middle of chaos.
He tried to think of anything other then the fact that he'd died, the fact that he had been reborn in a world like this. He didn't want to believe it, he wondered if he'd done something to deserve being reborn into a world like this. A world filled with death, cruelty, and despair. He didn't understand.
Eventually he couldn't stand being alone with his thoughts anymore, so he got up.
He paced around the room for a bit, until he couldn't take it anymore, it was too small, and all of his worries were piling up. He needed some air.
He knows that Izuru wouldn't be happy if he left, but… maybe just this once it would be okay. He wouldn't find out.
He went out into the hall, looking back and forth, to make sure Teruteru wasn't around, and then went down the stairs.
The people from before were still sitting there. Although most of them were sleeping. Some were awake however, sobbing, and muttering to themselves.
Wada went towards the door. It'll just be for a few minutes.
He reached for the handle, a hand slapped his, and he jumped.
He turned to the person, it was Teruteru, who was staring at him, a dangerous look in his eyes.
"What are doing up this late?"
Wada looked towards the stairs. He considered running up them and back into the room.
Teruteru chuckled. "I wouldn't try that if I were you. The people here would catch you before you made it back to that room. Now how about you answer my question. What are you doing up so late?"
Wada opened his mouth to come up with some sort of excuse, but when he did nothing came out.
Are you fucking kidding me? Right now?!
Teruteru stared at him and when Wada didn't say anything he smiled. "Trying to escape? I don't think Izuru would like that," Wada felt him grab his arm, nails digging into his flesh. "Would he?"
Wada shook his head, trying to get his voice back, but no matter how much he tried to say something, nothing came out.
And Teruteru either didn't notice or didn't care, because now he was pulling on his arm.
When Wada tried to pulled out of his grasp Teruteru shot him a warning look. "Remember what I said? The people in here will help me if I tell them to, so I suggest you follow me."
Wada didn't want to, and he was terrified, but he listened to Teruteru and followed him.
They stopped in the kitchen, and Teruteru pointed to a table. "Put your arm down."
Wada shook his head.
Teruteru forced a smile. "This is your last chance boy, put your arm down onto the table."
Wada hated everything that Teruteru was saying. But one of the things that bothered him the most was the way he'd called him 'boy'. It felt wrong somehow.
"Did you hear me?" Teruteru asked.
Wada shakily laid his arm down on the table.
Teruteru's fake smile turned into a real one. "Perfect."
He grabbed a leather cuff that was attached to the table. He roughly clasped the cuff into place around Wada's arm so he couldn't move it.
Wada tried, he struggled against the restraint but with no luck.
Teruteru chuckled. "Oh, you won't be getting out of that any time soon, my friend. I suggest you relax, if you don't it'll hurt more."
Wada watched as he got out a giant butcher knife.
There's no way he's gonna do that. I know that the remnants are horrible people but he won't do this, he can't.
Much to Wada's dismay Teruteru lifted the butcher knife right above Wada's arm.
Wada pulled at the restraints, he wanted to call out for help, but knew that his voice would not work at the moment. So instead he kicked Teruteru, making him drop the knife.
The knife landed a few inches away from his arm.
Wada breathed a sigh of relief, however that relief didn't last for long.
"You little shit!"
Wada turned to Teruteru, who looked extremely angry.
Wada stared at him, terrified with what was going to happen. If Teruteru had been planning to cut off his arm before, he didn't want to imagine what he'd do to him after he hurt him.
Teruteru grabbed the butcher knife and slammed his head onto the table.
Wada could feel the knife touch the back of his neck, he sat there petrified.
He felt a small sting and winced.
Teruteru's grip on the knife only worsened. "Y'know I was doing you a favor. I was gonna kill you before I cooked you because you were somewhat close with Izuru, but now…"
Wada felt the knife cut deeper, and he let out a horrified shriek.
Teruteru covered his mouth. "Ah, ah. Be quiet, you wouldn't want to wake Izuru, would you?"
Wada was shaking, the only thing he could think about when it came down to that butcher knife was Kamimura. Was this what he felt when he'd awoken for that split second? Overwhelming dread, knowing that you wouldn't survive.
Wada couldn't help but feel disappointed in himself. He promised himself he'd try and live this new life. Yet here he was, about to die a second time. Surely whoever had given him a second chance would not be as kind as they were the first time. If this life could even be called a kindness.
"What are you doing?"
Teruteru stopped, turning in the direction of the voice filled with neutrality.
"Izuru, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be sleeping?"
Izuru looked over at Wada. "It seems to me like you're doing something that you shouldn't have been doing and have now gotten caught. Give him back to me."
Teruteru nodded, taking the butcher knife out of Wada's neck. It stung, but Wada knew that it hadn't gone too deep because there wasn't too much blood.
Teruteru shoved Wada towards Izuru, who took him by the arm.
They left the kitchen without another word, Izuru making sure he had a hold of Wada's arm the entire time until they were back in the room.
Servant was up, sitting in bed, staring at them. "What were you doing Wada?"
Izuru turned to Wada, his gaze sharp. "I'd like to know the same thing."
Wada fiddled with his fingers.
He's like a child who knows they're about to be scolded. Servant thought to himself with amusement.
"I… I wasn’t trying to escape, I was just trying to get some fresh air."
"After I warned you about Teruteru, you still decided to go against what my orders," Izuru said. "How very boring."
Wada flinched. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you upset."
Wait a minute, why am I apologizing to my kidnappers?!
Izuru shook his head. "You can't to listen to a word I say, can you? You're lucky I awoke and noticed that you were missing. If I hadn't you would've been his next meal."
Wada felt disgusted hearing that. "So those people had been eating…"
"Humans, yes. That's how Teruteru spreads his despair. He takes in starving people and feeds them, only to reveal that they've been eating humans the entire time. This causes them to go into despair upon finding out. Some will continue to eat if they love the feeling. Others may die from the guilt they have."
Wada covered his mouth. "That's…"
"Disgusting and horrific, I know. I've heard it all before, it's always the same reaction. So boring."
Wada looked up and glared at him. "Boring?! You call the reactions of people who find out all of this horrific stuff boring?! What is wrong with you? What's wrong with all of you?! How can you not care about what you're doing?!"
Izuru shook his head. "I don't care, I already told you this. Everything is boring to me and I hardly feel anything other then boredom. Therefore I do not feel remorse for my actions."
Wada stared at him. "You're disgusting."
Izuru sighed. "A response expected, how boring."
Wada glared, but then turned to Servant. "And what about you? You talk about how much you love hope and then cause this! I don't understand you! I don't understand either of you!"
Izuru grabbed him and laid him down onto the bed. "It is not your place to understand us."
Servant nodded. "He's right, you don't deserve to understand us either."
Wada scoffed. "Because I'm considered worthless and below you in your eyes?"
Servant shook his head. "Not just in my eyes, but the entire world's eyes!"
Wada felt his eye twitch.
Izuru seeming to sense this continued. "The point is that you should be listening to me so we can get you back to the host of your killing game."
Wada huffed. At the very least I know that those bastards aren't here. But then again, once they find out that I'm not apart of any of the other remnants killing games what will they do to me? It's likely that they'll kill me, that's why the remnants are feared.
He grumbled to himself, realizing that he'd have to find a way to escape them at one point. Eventually they'd run out of remnants to talk to and then…
Izuru laid down in the middle. "In case you try to leave again I'll be able to grab you this time. Now sleep, we all need our rest for tomorrow. It's going to be a long day."
Wada rembered the stinging on his neck and turned to Izuru. "What about my-"
"It's a shallow cut, you'll be fine," Izuru said.
Wada turned away. "Right…"
Eventually sleep would find Wada and the next time he awoke it would be because of Izuru, who would be standing above him.
"It's time to go," He said.
Wada nodded and got up, the back of his neck hurt, but it wasn't unbearable.
Wada rubbed it, it stung. "Izuru, does Teruteru have a shower?"
Izuru stared at him blankly. "No, and I think you shouldn't expect showers in areas like this. We rarely get them."
Wada coughed. "Right."
The three went downstairs and when they did they were once again met with people crying and eating.
Teruteru came out of the kitchen holding a plate of… something.
Upon seeing him Wada hid behind Izuru, gripping his sleeve.
Izuru looked down at him. There was fear in the boy's eyes, as he stared at Teruteru. Izuru… felt something, boredom yes, as he'd expected a reaction like this, but he also felt something else. He couldn't put his finger on it.
Teruteru turned to them. "Ah heading out?"
Izuru nodded. "Yes, I told you we'd only stay one night."
Teruteru sighed. "Well if you insist on leaving so soon. How about I send you off with something?"
Izuru shook his head. "No, we need to get to Kazuichi's as soon as we possibly can."
Teruteru forced a smile. "Of course, I hope to see you again Izuru."
Izuru huffed, hoping he'd never see the man again.
The three walked out of the shop, the sounds of the customer's cries echoing in their ears as they did.
When they were finally out, Wada let go of Izuru's sleeve.
Izuru looked down at him, that odd feeling from before was still there. Perhaps I can discuss this with Servant later. He'll be able to find the word for it.
Servant looked over at him. "Should we get going?"
Izuru nodded, handcuffing Wada and Seevant together again, and taking the chain into his hand.
"Yes, we have a long way to go."
And with that the three began their walk to find another remanant.
CWs: death, rotting, discussions of starvation, suicide, and discussions of murder
Izuru questions Wada some more and Wada questions him in turn.
Wada was staring at his own dead body. It was… a sight to say the least.
His body was thin, his cheeks were hollow, and his eyes were closed. He had wrapped himself in blankets.
He felt uneasy seeing himself like this. He didn't know how else to explain the feeling in his chest.
There was nothing else, just himself staring at this dead version of him.
Wada stared at his face, his hair was longer and disheveled, Hiroaki would be disappointed that the work on his hair went to waste. And his eyes were closed, he seemed to be… content. Almost like he was at peace.
Wada frowned, this felt familiar somehow…
•••
"Wada."
Wada opened his eyes, to find Izuru standing above him, looking down at him.
"Good, you're awake. I have some breakfast after that I will be asking some more questions."
Izuru untied his hands.
Wada reached grabbed the notepad immediately.
Where's the other man?
Izuru sighed. "Servant is still sleeping, I ask that you do not wake him."
Why is he called that? Does he not have a name?
Izuru stared down at the notepad, unimpressed. "He does, he just doesn't use it. He prefers to be called Servant so that is what everyone calls him."
Wada frowned. Is that not cruel?
"It is but it is what he wishes to be called by. And if that's what he wants then I shall give it to him."
Wada huffed. And the chain?
"Something he also wants. Now enough questions, let's get you some breakfast."
Izuru began to walk away and Wada, having no choice followed after him.
Once they were in, what could be considered the kitchen area, Izuru pointed to the counter, where a piece of toast that was covered in jam sat on a paper plate.
Wada took it, and began eating.
"While you eat I'll ask some of my questions."
Wada didn't exactly want to answer the questions Izuru had for him, but knew that ultimately he had no choice.
"We already know that we don't know the name of the person who took you. Do you at least know what they looked like?"
Wada tried to think back to his last conversation during his goodbye interview. He remembered some of the words he'd said, but he couldn't remember the face of that man for the life of him.
He shook his head. I can't remember his appearance, but I know he was a man.
Izuru sighed. "Well that narrows it down at least a little bit. I suppose we'll have to start going to where all of the male remnants are located to find out which one had you."
Wada frowned. Do you have to do this? I don't… I don't wanna go back.
Izuru looked at him. "I told you before, I'll talk it over so they'll at least spare you."
There was silence between the two, before Izuru spoke again.
"You said you're the ultimate impersonator, yes?"
Wada nodded.
"Could you try to mimic my voice?"
Wada frowned. Not right now, because, it's like I said before, but if I get my voice back maybe.
Izuru nodded. "Alright."
Wada wrote, before Izuru could ask another question. What are ultimates and why are they important?
Izuru stared at the words for a few moments, seeming lost in his thoughts.
"Ultimate is a title given to talented people, usually for one specific subject that they are seen as being the very best at. Multiple people who are an ultimate are grouped together and called ultimates. As to why they're important, it is because they are known to help progress society and make it better."
What's your ultimate talent then?
Izuru crossed his arms. "I find it odd, that you don't know what ultimates are and yet you claim to be one."
That's what the my classmates found out.
"I thought you said the people holding you captive told you."
Kind of it's complicated…
"Explain."
Wada scribbled for a few minutes. Well, we didn't figure it out until we noticed during the executions that they were calling the people who were getting executed ultimates. We asked Monomoko what that was, but it wouldn't tell us what it meant. So we had to try and figure it out on our own and what our 'ultimates' were. We never figured out what 'ultimates' were but a majority of us were able to guess what we were the ultimates of.
Izuru scoffed at the word Monomoko, an obvious reference to Monokuma. "I see… I'll have to think about this more."
Wada realized that Izuru had avoided his question. You never answered my question. What's your ultimate talent?
"I am considered to be the ultimate hope, I am skilled at everything."
Wada blinked. How can you be skilled at everything?
"I was a normal person and signed up for a project, I went through a surgery and came out like this."
Wada's confusion increased. How is that even possible?
"You interfere with someone's brain."
Wada dropped the pen, and it rolled onto the ground.
He went under the table scrambling to grab it, when he did he jumped up, hitting his head on the table as he got back into his seat.
Izuru simply watched the display, he figured that if he hadn't expected this reaction he'd find it amusing.
How boring.
Wads rubbed his head with one hand, while he wrote with the other.
He held it up to Izuru.
You're saying they did surgery on your brain to make you like this?
"Yes," Izuru said.
I see… well is there anything you aren't good at?
Izuru thought for a few moments. "I suppose, I don't feel many emotions anymore. During the project the doctors wanted to get rid of them. I understand the emotions of others and can mimic emotions, but I don't truly feel them."
Before Wada could write another question, Izuru held up a hand.
"No more questions. We have to get Servant up before we leave."
Wada shook his head, quickly writing. Hold on. Just one more question.
"Fine, I'll allow it."
Wada's face brightened as he wrote down his final question. When did ultimates become important?
Izuru stared at the notepad, his expression the same blank one as always. "They've always been important. Now come we must depart."
Hearing those words only left Wada more confused. Ultimates had always been important? That didn't make any sense, if Wada were to be back with the others no one would even know what an ultimate was.
In that moment Wada remembered his dream. Could it be that… no there was no way. That couldn't have been real, and yet it somehow made sense, maybe not to anyone else, but for him it did. How could he possibly forgotten the end of the world? How could it be that ultimates had always been recognized and seen as important; and yet to him and his friends it meant nothing? It didn't make sense.
But if Wada did die then that opened a whole new can of worms. Why the hell would he get reborn into a world like this? And if he did get reborn into this world, did that mean the others were here too?
"Wada."
Wada blinked, Izuru was staring at him, Servant next to him, Izuru holding the chain to his collar, and Wada hadn't noticed it before but Servant had a glove covering one of his hands.
"It's time to go," Izuru said.
Wada nodded.
They went out onto the street and the sight Wada was met with made him nauseous.
The street had a lot of fallen debris, but they wasn't the thing making Wada sick, no it was the multiple bodies, laying around, some new, some older. The smell of iron and rot prevalent in the air.
Wada covered his mouth, retching. He'd witnessed death before, yes, but the smell of the dead made him feel sick.
Servant looked over at Izuru, who was simply staring at Wada, his expression held no sympathy for the boy.
Izuru grabbed his arm. "We don't have time for this we need to get to our first location."
Wada stumbled forward as Izuru pulled him to get him moving.
He started walking behind, but allowed Izuru to still pull him along, afraid that if he did Izuru would punish him somehow.
Izuru on the other hand was annoyed, he had to hold onto Wada's arm and Servant's chain, how troublesome.
Servant grinned. "Sir, where are we going first?"
Izuru huffed. "Teruteru."
Servant clapped. "How wonderful!"
Wada wasn't listening he was far too distracted by the the bodies, the crumbling buildings, and the horrible smell.
Izuru took notice to this and couldn't help but wonder how someone like him was able to escape a killing game.
CWs: implied eating disorders, implied starvation, panic attacks, mentions of murder and death
While Wada walks with Izuru he finds out some information as well as a strange man
Wada followed Izuru quietly, they'd been walking for a couple hours. They walked past multiple ruined buildings, but Wada still said nothing. He didn't want to upset Izuru, like when he'd grabbed him. Though, he still had plenty of questions and worries running through his head.
It wasn't until Izuru stopped that Wada stopped as well, granted it was by slamming into his back, but he stopped nonetheless.
"Is everything-"
"Quiet."
Wada immediately stopped talking, instead trying to listen or see whatever made Kamukura stop. But he wasn't able to see anything.
Izuru on the other hand went over to a piece of a ruined building and lifted it.
He stared down at something, before turning back to Wada.
"It's nothing, let's keep moving."
Wada nodded, but Izuru was already walking away, leaving Wada to run after him, but as he did, he stopped in his tracks when he saw what Izuru had been looking at before.
A man. A man who also seemed to be a few years old then him as well. He had white hair, with what looked to be reddish brown tips, pale skin, and was wearing a chain around his neck.
"Kamukura!"
Izuru turned to him. "What is it?"
Wada pointed to the man. "We can't just-"
"Yes we can, and we should. He will only be a bother, especially to you."
Wada frowned. "Why would he be a bother to me?"
Izuru sighed. "That in itself is a long story, that I'd rather not explain. It bores me, trust when I say that if we were to bring him along and when we wakes up he won't like you."
Izuru began walking again, but Wada looked down at the man. He looked so weak, they couldn't just leave him there.
"No, we can't leave him."
Izuru turned to him. "If you continue to argue about this I will leave you. This is your final warning."
With that Izuru walked off. Wada didn't understand his behavior, but he knew that he certainly didn't like it. And he wasn't about to leave an innocent man to die. So he picked him up, despite how heavy he was. And continued to follow after Izuru.
Izuru didn't look back for the next hour and when he finally did he found that Servant was being carried on Wada's back.
He shook his head, how predictable. He didn't even know why he tried to warn the boy when he knew the outcome would be like this.
He walked over and took Servant from him, lifting Servant into his arms, bridal style.
Wada stared. "Ah, thank you."
Izuru simply nodded, turning back and walking.
Wada coughed. "So, you said that he wouldn't like me. The man you're holding, do you know him?"
Izuru scoffed. "Yes, I do. He's one of the remnants, although he's not as dangerous as the others."
Wada bit his lip. So he'd saved a dangerous man, maybe he should've listened to Izuru. What the hell was he doing anyways? Trusting some random man he'd never met, if Tsuno were here she'd know what to do. If any of his other 'classmates' were here they'd know what to do.
But they weren't, and right now Wada was alone with two strange men, one of them being dangerous. And the other he didn't know anything about.
"Is there something you want to say to me?"
Wada was pulled from his thoughts upon hearing Izuru's voice.
"Oh um… I have a lot of questions about everything that's going on I just don't know where to start."
"We don't have time for a ton of questions stick to one and when we get some where safer you can ask more."
Wada rubbed the side of his arm. "One question… okay um what caused the world to end?"
"A woman named Junko Enoshima, the remnants of despair, and many other people who followed her."
Wada looked over at the man Izuru was carrying. "And he's one of the remnants? One of the people who helped end the world?"
Izuru was not surprised in the slightest that Wada didn't listen to the one question rule he'd set in place. How boring.
"Yes, he is, and I suppose I am as well."
Wada stopped in his tracks. "What?"
Izuru turned to see the horrified expression on his face. If Junko were here to see this she'd probably talk about how 'despairful' he looked.
"I said that I suppose I am also apart of that group."
Wada stared at him, he felt sick. "The group that helped end the world?"
Izuru nodded. "Yes, that is what I said."
Wada turned away bile rising in his throat and threw up. "F- first a killing game and now this? When is it gonna be over? When will I…"
Izuru tilted his head. A killing game? As far as Izuru knew this boy didn't match any of the people's names that Junko had used for her killing game. Did he belong to one of the other remnants? He certainly hadn't won, because Izuru knew how the other remnants worked. They'd have killed the boy just so he'd feel despair. Perhaps he'd escaped, if that was the case then Izuru would have to return him, it would only cause more trouble for him in the long run if one of them came looking for Wada.
"We should keep going it's not pleasent outside once night comes."
Wada shook his head, backing away. "No, I think I should go."
Izuru closed his eyes for a moment, frustrated that Wada wasn't listening. But then again this was to be expected.
"I'm afraid you don't have a choice."
Wada turned and began to run, only for Izuru to grab him by his hoodie and fling him over his shoulder.
He's so light Izuru thought to himself.
Wada on the other hand realized that the man he'd been carrying before was also slung across his shoulder.
Wada attempted to struggle, but it was in vain, he kept trying to get out of Izuru's grasp, until he ran out of energy (which didn't take long). And when he did he felt Izuru hit the back of his head, and then there was nothing.
•••
Wada blinked a few times, trying to get his vision to clear up. When it did he found that the white haired man from before was sitting in front of him fiddling with the chain around his neck.
The man looked over and his eyes widened, joy evident in them. "Ah you're finally awake!"
Wada attempted to back away from him only for him to feel an uncomfortable feeling on his wrists.
He looked up and found that they were tied to a metal pole.
He wanted to scream, but decided against it. If there was one thing he knew it was to never upset the people who had the power in whatever situation you were in. And in this case? Izuru had the upper hand, not to mention the man wasn't tied up either so it was likely that he and Izuru had some sort of understanding.
The man grinned. "How wonderful it is to finally meet you! I must thank you for convincing Kamukura to save me! Or it's more like I should thank my luck…"
Wada stared at the strange man unsure of what to say.
"Ah how rude of me I haven't even introduced myself! My name is Servant!"
Wada attempted to say something, but nothing came out.
Dammit.
Servant tilted his head. "Do you not speak?"
Wada shook his head, if only he had a paper and pencil, this would be so much easier.
Servant frowned. "Hm, then why aren't you talking to me? Oh! Is it because you don't want to speak with trash like me? I mean I can understand that, I'm a worthless human, if you could even consider me that. Nothing like Kamukura or the other ultimates."
What is wrong with this guy? Wada thought to himself.
"Ah, but then again, you aren't an ultimate either. You're just a normal person! So you're like me then, worthless trash."
Wada's eyes widened when he realized that Servant had said the word 'ultimate.' But he was saying he wasn't an ultimate which didn't make sense. Wada didn't exactly understand what ultimates were, but he knew that he and his other friends had been labeled as that.
"Um, actually I am an ultimate."
Okay, he could speak again, that was a good sign.
Servant stared at him for a moment before grinning. "You're an ultimate? That doesn't make any sense, the remnants and the other students at Hopes Peak are the only ones left! You can't be an ultimate, and the fact that you'd even suggest that you could be is rather repulsive."
Wada found that the more Servant spoke the more pissed off and confused he got.
"I'm serious, I swear I- I'm not lying."
Servant tilted his head. "As much as I'd like to believe that I don't."
Wada began shaking, he didn't even know what an ultimate was. He just knew that he was one, and that ultimates seemed to be important to Servant.
Servant frowned. "Oh my, are you also infected with despair? That's unfortunate, but not unexpected almost everyone is nowadays."
"I- I don't even know what you're talking about. Hope? Despair? What are you trying to say?"
Servant's eyes widened. "Hope and despair of course! How could you not know?!"
Wada didn't understand anything this man was saying. In fact it was making him feel worse.
"Servant, enough."
Servant turned to look up, Wada's eyes followed and he felt his blood go cold.
Izuru stood in the doorway, the same blank look on his face just like when Wada had been walking with him.
Servant immediately stood, he looked giddy. "Ah sir you're back!"
Izuru didn't respond, and in turn Servant held out the chain he'd been fiddling with.
Izuru took it, he didn't tug on it, he simply held it.
Wada stared at the both of them, he wanted to say something, but just like when he'd woken up he couldn't get the words out.
Izuru's eyes shifted over to Wada, who immediately looked away from him.
Servant looked over as well, before turning back to Izuru. "May I speak?"
Izuru nodded. "You may."
Servant smiled. "The boy says that he's an ultimate. But there's no way he could be one, not only are they all dead, but he isn't even filled with hope!"
Izuru stared at the boy. "Why do you say you're an ultimate?"
When there wasn't an answer Izuru let out a huff. "You cannot ignore us forever, you will be returning to whoever was having you participate in a killing game. So you might as well tell us why you call yourself an ultimate."
Wada froze. They knew about the killing game? But how he didn't…
"F- first a killing game and now this? When is it gonna be over? When will I…"
Oh no. He told someone. He told someone about the killing game. That meant that they'd…
He was finding it hard to breathe, this couldn't be happening. It was a tiny slip up, they couldn't get him… they couldn't.
Izuru watched as Wada began to cry, he was shaking more then when he'd first come in, and he was hyperventilating.
Ah, he's having a panic attack.
He sat down in front of him. "It'll be fine, I can probably convince them to spare your life."
A lie, Izuru wasn't going to dictate what the other remnants would do to their prisoner, but he needed information out of the boy.
Wada stared at him, but said nothing, he was still crying, but he seemed to be able to focus just a little more, his breathing was still shakey.
Izuru let out a sigh. He forcefully turned the boy around and began to rub small circles into his back, shushing him.
"You're gonna be fine."
This… it feels nice. Wada thought to himself.
Eventually he calmed down and Izuru stopped.
Izuru looked over at Servant. "Sit."
Servant without another word immediately plopped down.
He was so quiet I forgot he was here…
"Now," Izuru said. "Tell me why exactly do you think you're an ultimate?"
Wada didn't answer, he simply stared at them.
Izuru rarely felt anything other then boredom, but in this moment, he did feel something and it was annoyance.
"Can you please tell me why?"
Wada shook his head.
Izuru's annoyance stayed the same, but he was bored of Wada's refusal. It was just what he predicted, which was correct, like always. Perhaps he should ask something else.
"How long has it been since you've last eaten?"
Wada didn't answer his eyes were going back and forth between Izuru and…
Izuru looked up to where Wada's eyes were moving and found that he was staring at the restraints.
"Ah, I'm assuming you'd like me to untie you from your bindings."
Wada nodded.
Izuru sighed. "Very well, but then you must tell us the information we want to know."
Wada didn't answer, but that didn't matter to Izuru, he'd get the information he wanted. If it wasn't through Wada he'd just find it. Although that would take much longer, he'd much prefer if Wada would just tell them.
He untied Wada's wrists, and Wada immediately looked down at them, nervous about the marks.
Izuru waited until he was done and looked back at them.
Wada seemed to be looking around for… something, and then he pointed at Izuru.
Servant looked at him. "Ah do you need something from him?"
Wada nodded.
Izuru pursed his lips. How odd, even after being freed he wouldn't speak. He was beginning to think that he couldn't speak sometimes.
If his theory was correct…
Izuru pulled out the pen from his breast pocket as well as the notepad he had.
Wada took them and began to write, when he was done he showed it to them.
I am unable to speak at the moment. This will happen sometimes when I am stressed or feel unsafe
Servant tilted his head. "I see, well then I guess we should have you answer our questions through this then and also have you carry the notepad!"
Izuru had his finger on his mouth, he seemed to be thinking, despite his blank expression.
This is likely a trauma response due to something that has happened in his life. Going quiet like this probably makes his mind and body believe that he will likely be safer if he stays silent.
Wada began to write again. I can't tell you why I think I'm an ultimate if I tell you then I could get killed.
Izuru stared at the writing. "I gurantee you won't be killed. I can promise you that."
Wada shook his head. No you can't. You don't know those people… they'll kill me if I tell you anything.
Izuru sighed. "No they won't. I would kill them before they could even get to you."
Wada frowned. It's an entire organization. You wouldn't be able to kill all of them…
Izuru tilted his head. An entire organization? If he was talking about one of the remnants then he supposed that it wasn't technically a lie. Then again he didn't know who the remnants were, but he also didn't know what had happened these past two years, he didn't know how much of Wada's memories were missing.
"Do you know the name of the people who had you in their custody?"
Wada shook his head.
"Hm, I see. Well at the very least tell me what your ultimate talent is and why you think you have it."
Wada hesitated.
"You don't have to tell me anything else about the people who took you. Just tell me why you think you have ultimate talent and what it is. Do you understand?"
Wada nodded and began writing his response. They told me I had one, and as for my talent I think I'm the ulimate impersonator.
"The ultimate impersonator… how wonderful!" Servant exclaimed. "That's what I'd say if you actually were the ultimate impersonator."
Wada glared at him, furiously writing. I am the ultimate impersonator. Why would I lie about something like that?
Servant lifted his finger thinking. "Perhaps it's because you think it could help you live! Such hope you have, it's quite admirable! How unfortunate that you'll be feeling such horrible despair soon."
Wada stared at the man, very confused, before turning back to Izuru who looked over at Servant.
"Quiet." He said in a harsh tone.
Servant smiled. "Of course sir!"
Izuru turned his attention back to Wada. "So you believe that the reason you're an ultimate is because the people who took you and made you participate in a killing game told you so?"
Wada nodded, he felt sick, the fact that he'd told Izuru that had him extremely nervous. If they found out he would be…
"I told you that I wouldn't let them hurt you, remember?"
Wada blinked, refocusing on Izuru who was staring at him. He didn't trust Izuru or Servant in the slightest, but he thought back to how just moments ago Izuru calmed him down like it was nothing. And for some reason his gut told him that he should trust him, at least in this moment.
Wada nodded. Okay… then what else did you want to know?
"How old are you?"
18
Izuru let out a hum. "Two years younger then us I see. How long has it been since you last ate?"
Izuru noticed that Wada froze when he asked that. He did so for a few moments before he shakily wrote.
Why do you want to know?
"Because you were extremely light to pick up to the point that it was concerning. I need to know so I am able to feed you if I'm correct on the fact that you haven't eaten in a long while."
Wada thought for a few moments. How long had it been since he last ate something? It wasn't last week, was it…
I can't remember
Izuru stared at the writing for a few moments, before ultimately sighing. "Very well, I'm going to make dinner. Servant please watch him, and don't let him go."
Servant nodded. "Yes, sir."
With that Izuru left, leaving the strange servant and Wada alone.
Servant looked at him, a gleam in his eye. "So is there anything else that makes you believe that someone like you is an ultimate?"
Wada shook his head.
Servant sighed. "How unfortunate, so you just believe everything that those people told you?"
Wada frowned. No, but there were certain things I believed.
"And why was that one of them?"
Wada didn't write anything down for a few moments, thinking.
I'm not sure it felt like that part was true, and it seemed like it was a big part in why they took us.
Servant sighed. "I see, how unfortunate. So you likely aren't an ultimate, it seems you just believe certain things that those people told you. And to think I had such hope… but then again you didn't even attend Hopes Peak Academy. I was only setting myself up for disappointment it seems."
Wada try didn't understand the man in front of him. Why was he so obsessed with hope, and why exactly were ultimates so important here?
Before he could write any of his questions down Izuru entered the room holding three bowls. He placed one down in front of Wada, it was miso soup, and it smelled heavenly.
Wada without even thinking picked it up and began to eat it, wolfing it down within seconds.
"Oh my," Servant said.
When Wada was finished he held out his bowl.
Izuru stared at the boy for a few moments. "No, not at the moment. It's best for you to eat small portions for the time being. If you eat too much in the state you are in right now you'll likely be sick. For now this is all you can eat."
Wada was disappointed and felt a sting of grief. Tsuno had said something similar once. But then that sting of grief and disappointment turned in to horror as realized that he'd just eaten food from a dangerous man.
"I did not poison you if that's what you're worried about." Izuru said as if sensing his thoughts.
Wada didn't know how to respond to Izuru, he seemed to be rather complicated from the short time Wada had met him. So he said nothing at all, instead waiting for Izuru and Servant to finish eating.
When they did Izuru stood, holding Servant's chain. "It's time to rest. We will need it for tomorrow."
Servant stood with him. "What shall we do about him?"
Izuru looked over. "We'll bring the couch into our room and have him sleep there so we can keep an eye on him."
Wada didn't like this decision at all, but knew that unfortunately he wouldn't get a say in the matter.
And so fifteen minutes later Wada's hands were tied together and he was laying on the couch in Servant and Izuru's room.
"Servant go lay down I will be there in a moment."
Servant smiled. "Trash like me being able to share a bed with someone like you? How wonderful! I can't imagine what luck I have."
Izuru said nothing in response but sat down on the ground next to the couch.
"Tomorrow we are going to find the remnant that had you from before and return you to them. Do you understand?"
Wada wanted to scream at him that he didn't know what he was talking about. That the people he were taken by weren't people who ended the world. That they were doctors or scientists or something. But nothing came out, and when he didn't answer Izuru simply sighed.
"Sleep well."
He laid down next to Servant leaving Wada to stare up at the wall and listen to Servant's weird ramblings about how unworthy he was.
Wada knew that he should've been trying to find a way to escape, but he just didn't have the energy and soon enough he found himself drifting off to sleep, hoping that in the morning he could convince Izuru and Servant that he didn't belong to any of the so call remnants. And hoping that maybe he'd find some information on his friends.
But that would have to wait until morning, for now he would fall asleep, little did he know he would find the answers he needed within his dreams.
After Wada dies he finds himself in another world. One where 'ultimate talents' are still a thing and apparently a lot more known and seen as important.
Unfortunately for him the world he's ended up in is actual hell and is going through what could only be described as an apocalypse.
AKA: I couldn't accept the fact that Wada died so I decided to create this.
This was originally posted on AO3 but due to a recent twitter post made about them I have decided to officially quit posting on AO3 and have moved to Tumblr. So, if this fic looks familiar then you might have seen it on AO3. Also, this is a crossover fic of danganronpa and tetro danganronpa
No one knew what had happened, what had been happening while they were at work or at home. That he and 15 other students had been forced into a cruel and senseless killing game. And yet, he was still surprised. Logicially he knew he shouldn't be, but it didn't change the fact that he was.
And what was worse, was that despite getting out of that god awful place, Wada wouldn't call what he was doing now 'living'. He was miserable, he found it hard to eat, he found it hard to go down to the corner store to get those cheap meals, and he found it hard to keep going. He didn't see the point in it. Hiroaki had been right; he was just wasting the life that Isono had given him.
He felt so tired, so so tired. He was just gonna close his eyes for a little bit. He'd eat when he wakes up…
•••
When Wada woke up the first thing he noticed was the smell of rotting.
He blinked, it was so dark, he couldn't see anything. He attempted to move his arm, only for it to be pinned under some sort of rubble.
He felt his breath catch in his throat. He was trapped again, like with what happened with Okazaki, like with what happened with his parents.
Oh god where was he? Did he get taken again? Was he back in the… No. No, no, no.
He tried to make some sort of sound, but nothing came out.
He felt tears beginning to fall down his face. He tried to say something again, call out to someone, but all that came out was weazing and whimpering.
He moved, or more of tried to, but he was only able to move the lower half of his body, and it was only the slightest bit. And when he did, he heard a crunch from underneath him.
Oh god, did I just break something in my body? I don't feel any pain, but that could just be the adrenaline. Am I gonna die? I feel like I'm gonna die. Isono and Tsuno would be so disappointed in me. I survived that hell just to die out here, what's wrong with me? Why can't I just-
Light flooded Wada's vision all at once and he froze. Above him stood a man, who looked about a few years older than him.
Wada blinked, squinting at him, trying to get a good look at him. He had long black hair, red eyes, and looked to be wearing a fancy suit.
The man looked down at him with a blank stare, but then without a word he lifted him, put him off to the side, and sit down to look through where he'd been laying.
Wada sat there, staring at the man. "Um-"
"You broke it."
Wada blinked. "Huh?"
The man stood, turning to him. "You broke it."
"I'm sorry, what are you talking about?"
The man sighed, opening his hand for Wada to look at what was in his hand. What looked to be a USB, the metal part of it seemed to have been bent out of shape.
Wada slowly got to his feet. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean-"
The man huffed. "It's unfortunate, but nothing can be done now." He turned away. "Good luck on surviving, I suppose."
Wada stood. "Wait, um could you tell me what happened? Where exactly am I?"
The man turned, his expression didn't change, but his eyes seemed to hold some sort of curiosity. "You don't know where you are?"
Wada shook his head. "Ah, no. Was there some sort of earthquake?"
The man stared at him for a few moments. "You are in Towa City."
Wada frowned. "Towa City? I've never heard of a city like that." He looked around at the ruined buildings surrounding them, his eyes were wide. "Um… how exactly did this happen?"
The red eyed man let out a hum. "The Tragedy."
Wada felt his blood run cold, he didn't know what 'The Tragedy' was but it must've been something horrible. "What is The Tragedy?"
The man tilted his head. "You really don't know?"
Wada shook his head.
The man thought for a few moments. "It's likely amnesia, you were trapped under that rubble. And I'm unsure of how long you were stuck under there for. The Tragedy essentially caused the world to end."
Wada stood there, in shock. The world to end? But then what happened to Yanagi and the others? Were they okay? Did they…
The man turned away. "Well then, I suppose I'll be off."
Wada grabbed his arm. "Wait-"
The man shoved him. "I ask that you refrain from touching me."
Wada sat there, unsure of what to say.
The man crossed his arms. "What is it that you wanted to ask me?"
Wada stood up. "This might be weird, but can I come with you? I just… I don't know what's going on, and I need more to work with, so is it okay if I-"
"I suppose you can come with me."
Wada straightened himself. "Huh?"
The man turned away from him. "You can come with me for the time being, I need to see if I can find a way to fix this." He pocketed the broken USB. "However, if you get in the way or fall behind, I will discard you. Do you understand?"
Wada nodded. "Yes, I understand."
The man began to walk. "Good, now come along."
Wada ran over to match the man's speed. "I don't think I ever learned your name."
The man let out a huff. "My name is Izuru Kamukura."
Wada smiled. "That's a nice name, my name's Masanari Wada."
"I do not care, just keep moving."
Wada nodded. "Um yeah, sorry!”
Izuru didn't respond, he only kept walking, and the only thing Wada was thinking was that something was very wrong. But he didn't have much of a choice, he had to trust this man, he had to figure out what happened, he had to keep going.
