Kal’reegar?    SURVIVES TO SEE THE HOMEWORLD. He doesn’t die in an email at the end of ME3, he does however get injured instead, needing some time to recover, but he ultimately survives. And is able to stand on the plant he lost, his years of service to the fleet compounding to feel worth every struggle and every loss. ( And to fulfill some self indulgence ) He helps Tali build her house on the homeworld.

Nihlus?   ALSO SURVIVES. This one is going to get it’s own big headcanon post because I’m going to go through and explain where he is and what he does in ME2 and ME3, as a result of his survival. But, how does he survive a point blank shot to the back of the head? Saren’s hesitation. At that point, he isn’t fully indoctrinated yet, and he hesitates when pulling the trigger, reconsidering at the last moment before the gunshot goes off, missing Nihlus’s head and catching him instead in the neck. It’s only through Shepard’s quick arrival and some creative field medicine that he’s able to be saved.
