Fun fact:

One of Reddit’s post sorting algorithms assigns every post a value of f based on the equation:

f(nk, t) = log10(nk) + t/45000

Where nk = net Karma, the difference between upvotes and downvotes; and t= time in seconds since some day in 2005. It is worth noting that if the number of net karma is negative (too many downvotes) then the equation changes because it breaks the logarithm, but I’m not sure to what. Also worth noting is that seconds really rack up and so time tends to dominate in the algorithm, with upvotes just a small adjustment that decreases in rate of return.

So with this, every time net karma reaches a magnitude of 10, it’s almost like it’s pushed forward in time by about another 45000 seconds, which is approximately half a day.

It’s quite interesting and ensures fresh content rises to the top.

Day 47/100:

-Been working a lot on the mars rover project over the last two days to keep up to do date with all the changes and new models that are being completed.

-Had a tutorial and revision session this morning for the structures, materials and dynamics paper which is useful and we’re going to be sent a revision pack.

-For the rest of the evening I will be working on whichever of the 4 problem sheets due next week I decide I feel like doing.
