So you’re backpacking through South America, and you find yourself in Buenos Aires for a few days. Or you’ve been living in the city for months, and a friend announces a surprise visit for a week. What should you do with such little time? Of course be sure to stop by the must-see tourist sites in the city, but you don’t want to be the Yanqui who just blindly follows the tourist crowd. Vary it up! Try out hidden restaurants; go to lesser known places and events. But as a base for your tour, assuming you or your friend would be here for a typical Saturday-to-Saturday week, let us give you some advice: (read the full article on the buenosairesdelivery blog)
Rubbish goes uncollected in some parts of BA City due to new conflict
Rubbish went uncollected in the capital city today due to a new conflict between collection truck drivers and Cliba bosses.
Due to a new conflict between rubbish truck drivers and the bosses at refuse collection company Cliba, garbage bags were left uncollected across a number of neighbourhoods in the capital city last night.
The city minister for environment and public spaces, Diego Santilli told a local radio station this morning that “last night the trucks did not go to collect and an emergency collection operative was ordered.”
Not collecting the rubbish “is a lack of respect toward residents” of the city Santilli said.
The minister furthered that the situation was to be normalised by midday.
Weather alert issued for hail, storms
City skies darkened as storms hit the capital.
The National Weather Forecasting Service (SMN in Spanish) has issued a severe storm alert and warned of possible hail and heavy showers over the capital city and the Greater Buenos Aires area, as well in some provinces for today.
The alert is in place for Buenos Aires City, Northern Greater Buenos Aires area, Entre Ríos, Santa Fe (central and southern) provinces and the River Plate area.
The forecasting service also informed it expects intermittent hail throughout the day.
“We anticipate severe storms to intensify with the possibility of abundant hail in a short amount of time”, the SMN reported
YES!!! The subway strike is over, finally..
Subway: emergency meeting at Labour Secretariat in order to lift strike
Subway strike reaches 10th day.
Spokesmen from Metrovías, City government officials, and representatives from the UTA union and subway workers are meeting in order to put an end to the conflict that has left the city of Buenos Aires without any subway service for the last ten days.
In the meeting, workers on strike are introducing a new document containing five labour.
As subway delegates Néstor Segovia and Enrique Rossito were seen entering the meeting, they assured that the strike “continues and has not been lifted.
Earlier, Segovia, told reporters “there is a light of hope and we could be ending the strike some point today.”
“There’s hope that negotiations with both Metrovías company and the Buenos Aires City government could be solved within the next few hours
After such statements, Segovia also revealed that “there’s the possibility of calling a truce as workmates have already indicated to agree with doing so in case we obtain some positive responses to our demands.”
Workers claim a 28 percent salary increase as well the improvement of their working conditions
Likewise, the other Subway workers’ breakaway union secretary-general, Roberto Pianelli, assured this morning that as far as the strike is entering its tenth day, Metrovías company refused to accept the minimum requirements they asked, and aimed also to BA City Mayor Macri “He [Macri] may find the conflict extension highly convenient for him.”
During a radio interview, Pianelli repeated that “it would be very simple to resolve the whole issue. It will just take a few minutes, but there’s no intention to provide a solution whatsoever.”

Cilantro: I take it all back.
If you have read my page before or have gone into the restaurant section of it, you've realized that I usually say nothing but good things about Cilantro. In fact, many times I have recommended it, called it my favourite place to go have cocktails and praised their food. But I TAKE ALL THOSE GOOD THINGS I SAID BACK.
Last night I was sitting at home being boring as I am and decided to call up some friends and go to Cilantro.. Bad idea. I got there and everything seemed as usual, until we got our complementary shot,(usually when you first get in, the waitress comes up to you with a shot of what I'm guessing is melon liquor.. or maybe watermelon.. pshht, who knows. It's sweet and neon green) it was all watered down to the point that it just tasted like a cheap popsickle had melted and they just put it in a glass. At this point I'm like 'whatever, its free; you can't really complain when someone gives you something for free.
Then we decided to order. My friend was really hungry so he got the ribs, in the menu it said it was a big dish meant for two. I got the cilantro roll (which used to be one of my favourite sushi rolls in all of BA). When the food came I was so disappointed. My rolls had been completely modified, there was no rice in them and the cream/sauce the usually had was replaced my common mayo. And to top it off the tempura was just off, it tasted more like milanesa bread crumbs than tempura. My friends ribs were cold in the inside and steaming on the outside, at if they had just been taken out of a microwave that doesn't work quite right. The 'sweet and sour sauce' was awful and tasted more like watered down ketchup with some sweetening ingredient. Finally, the portion was not even enought for one person, let alone to be shared.
I will admit this though, we got there at around 11pm. I'm thinking maybe the kitchen was about to be closed or something and that's why the food wasn't good, I don't really know.
What I would to say to you guys is that I'm sorry if you've read my page and went there expecting something better be cause of what I had written, I had no idea they quality had dropped so much. I will be removing it from my recommended places list.
In July of last year, this new metal sculpture was unveiled along Avenida 9 de Julio. It features two images of Eva Peron, the infamous former first lady who I mentioned in my post about Recoleta Cemetery. The two images are on the North and South side of a building on 9 de Julio. Evita is beloved by the poor of Buenos Aires and so many colloquially explain the sculpture as Evita smiling toward to traditionally poorer South and yelling at the rich North.
If you are interested in the sculpture’s unveiling last year, see this link in the UK’s Telegraph. This article also alludes briefly to some of the controversy surrounding Evita and the habit that the current president, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, has of evoking Evita’s memory to support her own policies and fame. For example, Argentina is struggling with rising inflation. Kirchner has be criticized recently for unveiling a new $100 peso bill with Evita’s face on it. $100 pesos is the largest bill in Argentina’s currency and it is only worth roughly US$22. Many have been calling for the creation of a $150 or $200 peso note as a measure to curb rising inflation. Instead, Kirchner’s most recent economic announcement was the creation another $100 peso. This is spurred the critics who claim she would rather invoke Evita’s popularity than really deal with Argentina’s problems.
Buenos Aires has a major counterfeit problem. Fake money is exchanged on the regular, often by way of taxi drivers giving your change in counterfeits or covertly switching your real bill with a fake and accusing you of trying to pay with counterfeit money.
Most taxi drivers I have...

US dollar trades at AR$4.55 // Euro trades at AR$5.58
Argentinean president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner celebrated passage of the world’s most progressive gender identity law by inviting a number of transgender leaders and personally handing them their new identity cards. The law was adopted by the Argentinean congress in May by a vote of 55-0 and became law last month after getting the president’s signature. It allows transgender individuals to change their name and gender on government documents without having to prove that they have undergone gender reassignment surgery or need for court approval as had been the case before. It also grants government health coverage for transgender individuals who want to undergo a gender reassignment surgery.
Random BA Fact #7: Opposing to typecast, Argentines are not by preponderance, Hispanic in spite of talking Spanish. Most are of Italian, German, Welsh backdrop. A diminutive percentage is from Spain
So I'll be spending about 3.5 days and four nights in BA at the end of the month. Do you have any suggestions for must-see places, things to do, or places to eat?
Theres SOOO many places to see if you come to BA, but some of my favorites are:
Plaza Francia/Recoleta Cementary: At Plaza Francia on sundays there's a big craft fair, with food stands and street performers. Its amazing to spend the afternoon. In the same neighbourhood you have loads of really good restaurants and bars, when choosing trying to choose one check for a "Guia Oleo" Sticker, if you find one... the place is good. Also you can find a historical ( and very pricey ) cafe called Cafe La Biela. And if you want to stay in your comfort zone you can find Hard Rock cafe BA right across from Plaza Francia.
El Ateneo: It's an old theatre made into a HUGE bookstore, and its just B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. The're a coffee shop in the middle on it, where the stage once stood, where you can read the books ( for free :p). They have books in English, French, Portuguese.
Palermo/Rosedal: In Palermo you can find the Zoo, the planetarium, a botanical gardern, a japanese garden and a rose garden. It's great to walk around ( or if you are lazy like me) You can buy yourself some wine or mate and just lay on the grass and enjoy the scene. Stay away past dark though, the rose garden gets pretty shady
La Boca:The colours come from the brightly painted houses on the Caminito a pedestrian walk named for the tango of the same name and the waters of the Riachuelo stained by oil sludge’s. The tradition began when the hose owners didn’t have enough money to buy painting for their houses. They receive donations, and of course it was hard to find a lot of paint in the same colour. The years went by and it became a tradition to use different colours. If you want to see some beautiful sights of the life in the docks visit the Art museum of Bellas Artes in La Boca
Obelisco
I have a page dedicated to 20 Great things to do in BA, check it out for more ideas
Great places to eat: This is the trickier part f your question since BA has a wide variety of cuisines available and of course the ASADO (barbecue) But it really depends on your budget.
Some places I recommend are: La Cabrera (Asado), Lupita (Mexican), Cafe San Juan (Modern Argentine) and La Farmacia ( Pizza, Pasta and Beyond)
