Introduction into Senior High School
Before proceeding to our discussion on the Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) Strand, let us first have an introduction about Senior High School (SHS).
What is Senior High School?
Senior High School (SHS) is an additional two years of specialized upper secondary education (Grades 11–12). Students may choose a specialization based on their aptitude, interests, and educational capacity. Each high school student may choose from three specialized tracks: Academic; Technical-Vocational-Livelihood; and Sports and Arts.
How can Senior High School help students?
Senior High School was created to help prepare students mainly for three things: College, Entrepreneurship, and Jobs. Students are offered with the core, applied, and specialized subjects relevant to one’s chosen strand or course for college. They are also trained and taught of the basic skills necessary to start their own business or to help manage their family’s business and finances. Senior high school students are better equipped with competencies and skills for work in the future.

This discussion focuses on Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) Strand of the Senior High School Academic Track and explains why future senior high school students, like you, must choose to study this strand.
Is a student for ABM Strand?
In choosing a strand, a student must evaluate oneself to know his/her personal abilities, talents, and passion. With this said, ABM Strand is for students who want to become business leaders and entrepreneurs. If students desire a career in the accounting and business fields, this strand is the one.
Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) Strand provides students with the skills and knowledge they need to work in the business and corporate world. This strand concentrates on the foundational concepts in corporate operations, financial management, business management, and other business fields.
What are the specialization subjects that ABM students must take?
There are nine ABM specialization subjects: Business Mathematics; Organization and Management; Fundamentals of Accounting, Business and Management (FABM 1 and 2); Business Finance; Applied Economics; Business Ethics and Social Responsibility; Business Marketing; and Business Enterprise Simulation.
What are the advantages and learning obtained by ABM students?
ABM Strand would focus on the basic concepts of financial management, business management, corporate operations, and other business-related concepts. Studying ABM gives students many opportunities to start and run their own business. Here, students will be trained in practicing and improving their proper time management skills, communication skills, finance skills, collaboration skills, analytical skills, and many other skills applicable not only for the business field but also for other career paths and professional fields.
What can students do in College after studying ABM Strand?
After studying ABM, students, who desire having careers in different business fields, may take college courses that will give them the competencies and skills necessary to work in the business and corporate world. These courses include: Accounting Courses like Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and Bachelor of Science in Accounting Technology; Business Courses like Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship; Management Courses like Bachelor of Science in Community Development, Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service, Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management, and Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management.
What are the possible career paths for ABM students?
ABM Strand offers opportunities for any business to thrive and for students to pursue direct career paths in accounting, management, and finance that may lead to both personal and professional success. ABM career paths include: Business careers in Retail and Sales; Media; Marketing and Advertising; and Human Resources. ABM graduates may have future work as sales manager, human resource manager, marketing director, bookkeeper, project officer, accounting clerk, internal auditor, and among others.
