The Unexpected
Celeste couldnât believe that her best friend was at it again, botching relationships with a good man. Normally, she would be there for Tara, there to be the one that was her shoulder to cry on, but she didnât deserve it. She loved her friend like no other, but she was foul when it came to relationships sometimes. Often she stepped out on them, she half assed them and Celeste simply was left to watch, and if she grew close to the guy her bestie was dating, she was left to explain or pick up the pieces. This time was no different. Sheâd done it again, and this time to such a great guy.
Celeste knew that this was coming, it was if it were a train wreck and she could do nothing to stop it. Sheâd tried to talk to Tara, tell her not to do this, but she hadnât listened. Here she was now, Netflix up on the television, snack foods are in the room. Alcohol was a must, and she truly didnât know how to tread here. Sometimes, she did this, was there for the guys that Tara blew through, but Carter he was different. Carter was someone that she enjoyed hanging out with. Celeste double checked her apartment to make sure everything was set up for this hangout. When he arrived, she opened the door. âHey, Carter. How are you doing?â she asked as the door swung open. She made sure to keep a smile on her face, pretending to be in the dark about his relationship with Tara. âIâve got Netflix pull up, all the snacks we could ask for and ready for this Netflix and chill kind of night? Well, minus what other people do when they Netflix and Chill. I didnât lure you here with an agenda, honest,â she rambled. Her cheeks heating the more words fell from her lips. âOkay, Iâm shutting up, just come on in.â
In all reality, Carter and Tara hadnât been together for all that long, but for him it seemed like a century. It was hard on him, having been tossed to the side like last weekâs newspaper. It apparently happened a lot with Tara from what he knew, and it shouldnât have been a shock for him, but it was. How could someone claim to love and care about you, and that just leave you to the wolves like that. Either way, surprisingly enough, Celeste, Taraâs best friend, invited him over to get his mind off of everything and it had meant the world to him because of everything.Â
Watching the door open, it was almost instantaneous that she began to ramble. It was cute, in all actuality. Watching her try to hype up the night. Carter was already pretty excited to just relax, and enjoy a movie with a friend, but she was trying her hardest and thatâs what counted. âIts okay, Celeste. Iâm excited too.â Carter reassured the other, stepping into her place and peering around. It was rare that Carter actually got a look at her house. It was only when sheâd invited him and Tara over for dinner or something. Guess that wasnât going to happen much anymore. âWhat movie did you pick out?â He was curious. Hoping itâd been some kind of comedy or something, heâd need it.
