The Unexpected
In all reality, Carter and Tara hadn’t been together for all that long, but for him it seemed like a century. It was hard on him, having been tossed to the side like last week’s newspaper. It apparently happened a lot with Tara from what he knew, and it shouldn’t have been a shock for him, but it was. How could someone claim to love and care about you, and that just leave you to the wolves like that. Either way, surprisingly enough, Celeste, Tara’s best friend, invited him over to get his mind off of everything and it had meant the world to him because of everything.
Watching the door open, it was almost instantaneous that she began to ramble. It was cute, in all actuality. Watching her try to hype up the night. Carter was already pretty excited to just relax, and enjoy a movie with a friend, but she was trying her hardest and that’s what counted. “Its okay, Celeste. I’m excited too.” Carter reassured the other, stepping into her place and peering around. It was rare that Carter actually got a look at her house. It was only when she’d invited him and Tara over for dinner or something. Guess that wasn’t going to happen much anymore. “What movie did you pick out?” He was curious. Hoping it’d been some kind of comedy or something, he’d need it.
A broad smile pulled at her features as he said that he was excited too. She knew that she needed to take a bit of a chill pill on her excitement, and maybe she was trying to overcompensate for the bad thing that had happened, i.e. the breakup, but sometimes she always wound up getting the criers. Tara could expertly break a man and Celeste was in awe and not in a good way. “I actually picked out a few. I have some stand up comedy stuff, if you like Kevin Hart.” Kevin Hart was her favorite comedian. “I also have Malibu’s Most Wanted, Get Hard,Super Bad, The Hangover, Jay and Silent Bob, White Castle, some oldies like Breakfast Club and Goodburger, and all of the Marvel superhero movies, and even the Star Wars movies.” This was her go to kit for feeling better when she was down, so of course she had it all at the ready for helping someone else feel better as well.
“Can I get you something to drink? I’ve got alcohol?” she asked, wanting to know before she sat and got comfortable. She eyed him then, trying to see if there was any sadness about him, or if maybe he wanted to talk about the breakup. “How’ve you been?” Celeste knew that the question may have been silly, but she didn’t truly know how he was doing.
