Casually making out with Ryland😫😫😫😫 him just pulling you onto his lap and kissing you and it doesn’t even lead to anything but you’re just making out. Ughhh making out in the car before he has to go when you drop him off at work. I LOVE CASUAL MAKEOUT SESSIONS!!!
Twice, Ryland Grace is faced with the same pivotal decision: to save himself, or to save an entire planet.
The first time:
He is surrounded by white (bravery) and is wearing yellow (cowardice)
The world is telling him to be brave, but he can’t, not yet, because he is a coward.
He has lost his identity and autonomy
The decision is already made (he must die)
He is all alone (he doesn’t have the bravery gene)
The second time:
He is surrounded by yellow (cowardice) and is wearing white (bravery)
He is in the middle of his namesake: a field of rye. The field is the yellow of cowardice; that is who he was, but he can’t be that, not anymore, because he is brave.
You know who you are. You’ll do great.
The decision is already made (Rocky must live)
Rocky’s ball is beside him (he has found someone to be brave for)
@stiffyck had me Pondering about Eridian formal wear/jewelry for Grace and now here we are.
Bonus:
And artist notes under the cut:
in the book it's mentioned that Eridian cloth looks much thicker than Earth cloth does. So i went with stiff and heavy looking fabrics for the overall structure
not much of the cloths are the same color, since Eridians can't perceive it, they don't really mind it if something isn't the same shade.
THE JINGLE JANGLE. I tried to experiment with different items that made clinking sounds, such as coins, glass, chimes, etc. I thought the resonances of each item might be a bit different and interesting!
The overall cuts of the outfit is simple too, since this would essentially be Ryland's early fits after having lived on Erid for a couple months. I can imagine the Eridians are still getting used to human sewing patterns, so in the meantime they made him this so that he could still participate in festivals/holidays/formal occasions.
That is not to say, however, that they aren't able to add their own level of excruciating detail to the finer parts of the outfit.
The chimes/stones are basically different xenonite variations.
aroace Ryland Grace my beloved
while the glasses strand isn't exactly formal, it was a fun one to make and i wanted to include it :)
all in all, thanks for the inspo stiffyck! This was fun! :D
The day ends finally as you fall back into your chair. A small huff leaves your body as you stare at the ceiling. You got out of pick up duty today, now remembering to put a reminder in your phone that you owe your coworker a favor.
You pull your phone out for a moment to scroll social media before dealing with the daunting task of cleaning the art room.
“Oh shi-,” you mumble, cutting yourself off as you remember you’re in school. Today was the day Artemis II was launching into space to start their journey to circle the moon. You were stoked. Anything to do with Space was your cup of tea. Your room reflected that. One of the perks of being the art teacher at the middle school, was being able to decorate the room how you felt. And that meant, anything space.
Some of the light fixtures in the ceiling were covered with a light cloth that resembled galaxies and stars. The walls were covered almost floor to ceiling with artwork made from classic artists to even your students who go out of their way to make you artwork; specifically outer space.
You quickly switched to your work laptop to turn on the livestream. The projector was still on from your class, playing instrumental music so they could focus. Flipping to the NASA livestream, the video on the screen opened and there was still about an hour and a half until lift off. So, you took the time to start cleaning and organizing.
Meanwhile…
Ryland ran a hand through his hair to the back of his neck. Another day in the books of teaching middle schoolers about science. He really loved his job, even more so now that he would have a new lesson plan for the kids’ next section, the solar system. He was excited to show the kids all things space. The last few weeks, he had spent days building a display to hang from the ceiling to show the solar system and how the planets laid out.
His excitement and relaxation was quickly ruined when Venus decided to take a dive. The big paper mache ball fell from the string it was previously attached to and split into a few pieces as it made contact with the floor. After Ryland found his normal heart rate, he groaned. He left all his supplies at home, thinking he was done with arts and crafts.
He walked over to the sad little Venus at his feet and reached to retrieve the pieces. Wait. Maybe his favorite art teacher was still here to help him fix this. With a new found pep in his step, he made a bee line to your room in hopes that you would still be cleaning or putting some 12 year old’s artwork back on the drying rack.
…
You were busy sweeping the floor of random paper and stray pencils while also glancing every so often at the livestream. Listening to the interviews, chatter of the hosts really sent you to another planet as you didn’t notice someone in your doorway. Ryland stayed put watching your figure move swiftly with the broom collecting the day's mess. He glanced at your projector screen and smiled slightly seeing you had the NASA livestream going. Of course you did! That was one of the many qualities he loved about you. There were many late nights of you both sharing take out and talking about outer space. His face blushed at how smitten he was with you. He was distracted thinking of how lucky he was to meet someone like you, when he heard a small gasp from you.
“Ryland!” You scolded. You were holding your chest, calming your heart rate. He took a few paces with his long legs and was quickly in front of you.
“Sorry! Sorry, I just needed help from my favorite art teacher with my Venus.” He sadly held up his destroyed planet and you chuckled, shaking your head.
“What did you do?” You tilted your head smirking at how clumsy he can be.
“She fell on her own! Maybe I didn’t attach the wire correctly…” he responded looking over the pieces. He had genuine sadness as he observed the broken mache.
“No worries, Ry. We’ll get her fixed up.” You left the sweeping for later as you gathered materials to help fix the sad planet.
You and Ryland pushed two tables together in front of the screen that displayed the moon launch. Paper mache and paint was spread on one of the tables as you both mounted the other so you could sit and watch the livestream. You both sat cross legged, knees touching as you began the repair.
“How did I know you’d have the moon launch on, when I came in?” Ryland teases as he passes you materials for Venus.
“Not sure, it’s like you know something about me,” you bumped his shoulder with yours.
You and Ryland started seeing each other months ago and you two were almost inseparable. No one really knew about your relationship, except for a small number of people. Some of the kids that have yours and Rylands class may have speculated something was going on as well. But you tried to keep it professional while at school.
You meticulously applied new paper to meld Venus back together. Once she was a new ball, you let her dry as you leaned back on your hands to watch the stream.
“My savior,” Ryland commented as he watched in awe. The way you managed to fix the sphere so quickly was beyond his ability.
“There’s a reason, I’m the art teacher.” You tease him. You glanced at him and realized how close he was. You leaned into him and you both found each other's lips for a small kiss. You quickly turned your attention back to the screen as you heard the ‘T-10 minute’ countdown. Nothing could keep your attention like the space launch. Ryland laughed as he waved his hand in front of your face.
“My God, they’re heads in space! How will I survive on my own!” He dramatically claims.
“You’ll figure it out,” you smirk, eyes not leaving the screen. Ryland laughs as he places a kiss on your cheek and he too returns his attention to the launch.
“Only NASA could take my significant other away from me.” He huffs dramatically.
Your anticipation grows as the countdown comes to zero. Ryland can sense it, he sees your grip on your pants tighten. It’s like you're a little kid again. He takes the moment and puts himself into your shoes. The launch is a big moment not only for you, but for the world. It’s a unifying moment for many seeing four humans being sent on a mission not on planet Earth.
When the moment finally arrives, you both watch as Artemis II is sent into the sky. Ryland looks at you again, seeing your pupils widen, eyes darting over the screen. He could even see tears forming in your eyes. Beautiful.
later…
“My god, did you see how beautiful that lift off was? The smoke from the rocket? Wow!” You were buzzing with excitement as you and Ryland made it back to his apartment. You’re expressing with your hands, going here and there. Ryland hasn’t stopped smiling since the livestream. You helped him finish fixing his Venus, getting it back into place in his classroom. He invited you to stay over that night.
Seeing you so passionate sent his heart fluttering. He loved seeing you. In this state. It had been a while since you’d expressed yourself like such. He watched from the doorway as you paced his livingroom/kitchen areas. You were talking a mile a minute. He hoped one day you’d be here permanently so he could see this side of you every day.
He walked slowly over to you as you were still buzzing around. He placed his hands on your hips to still you for a moment and kissed you. You jumped slightly and when he backed away he said,
”Sorry, I j-just wanted to do that. Please continue, I love seeing how jazzed you get with subjects you love.” He smiled and waited for you to bring up the rocket again. Your brain froze for a moment and the gears shifted once more.
”Ugh, I can’t wait for new photos from the astronauts!” You jumped right back in. Your skin darkened with blush as you tried to move on. You continue to yap as Ryland puts his things away and you both start dinner. Let’s just say, you were talking about the space launch until breakfast the next morning.
