real talk:

I’m trying to draw more. I’m trying to crawl out of the social media deathspiral a little bit. In Chicago all the leaves are changing but the weather is still really warm. Today I’ve eaten a huge breakfast burrito, written a letter and two emails, beaten a video game, finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and pressed a few flowers. I’m trying to extend more kindness to more strangers. Tonight I might actually draw a comic, and actually post it to Infinite Nap, which would end a months-long absence from that platform. I wonder if I’ll ever be a comic artist again, properly?

Later I’m going out for drinks and live music with a few friends. I’m super in love with this one person. One of the washing machines in my complex keeps leaving my clothes soaked. I got this great new hoodie after I went out to lunch with my aunt and uncle last week. Been eating a lot of bread lately.

when I almost broke up with my boyfriend last winter, I mentioned it to my big sister and she sent me a care package full of tea and cookies and I cried. (I broke up with him in the spring. it was great.)

generally either a mundane mish-mash of stuff that’s been on my mind- though sometimes I have really vivid ones with plots and conflicts and everything. I have a lot of anxiety dreams, which strangely enough almost ALWAYS involve crossing alligator-infested marshes on foot.

fallen leaves: a scent that triggers a positive memorythere are so many scents I have strong positive memories associated with: arm & hammer laundry detergent, wood smoke, dinty moore canned beef stew, plumeria, weed, finger paint, the distinctive smell of a publix deli, and so on.

in general, they remind me of people I love/have loved, family, home, and feelings of comfort and security.

i never wanted to be in this position for so so so many reasons but today my cat cashew had to be taken to the vet bc of pain and it turned out to be urinary blockage which is apparently fairly common in neutered male cats but entails a pretty expensive surgery to fix. my parents are both disabled and on a fixed income and im working but hours are short and my second and third jobs don’t kick in for another two weeks at least. i was lucky enough to be approved for care credit and we were able to pay to get him his prescriptions and anesthesia so he could be catheterized and brought home which is the minimum the vet told us we had to do to keep him from dying from this today but without the surgery there’s a chance he could get blocked again the very next day after the catheter is removed.

there’s just absolutely no way we could afford the surgery. i don’t want to ask for donations but cashew is so important to me and id be completely lost without him in my life. the vet told us he’d do the surgery on friday (when we take cashew back to get the catheter removed) for $500 so with the paycheck im getting that day i only need to raise about $200-$300 to be able to get cashew what he needs. my paypal to donate is [email protected]. please consider boosting this. thank you for reading

Hey, your time working in rural Scotland looked really amazing. I live in the UK and am recently unemployed and I thought it might be cool to do something similar. How did you find the opportunity? A special website or a personal connection? (PS I 100% love the comics, they and you well and truly rock!)

I did it through WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) UK - you offer volunteer farm labor in return for room and board, and there are 600+ farms around the UK to choose from. The website is wwoof.org.uk and a membership (required to contact farms) is 30 pounds/year. It was awesome. I touched a lot of chickens and ate a lot of toast. 10/10.
