The best of Donna (aka: all of Donna) : S03E02 - Empire
âSo you girls are allowed to date before youâre placed?â
âI guess I just wanted you to know that I was back from Amsterdam, and I made it through college. I thought youâd want to see me again, even if itâs just a passing hello. We could even call it a goodbye if that makes it easier. Donât get me wrong, this is painful for me too. Some wounds donât ever heal, but Iâm willing to own up to my mistakes. Iâm tired of carrying them with me - the guilt, the pain. I have no use for it anymore. Iâm only here for the holiday to see my family and pay my respects to Spencer and the others. Iâm not sure if Iâll be back, you know? Jake is almost done with college, and I just accepted a job on an excavation site overseas. Anyway, you look really good. I hope you are. Good, I mean. We all deserve the chance to be happy; I think weâve suffered enough to warrant some peace.â
Maddie speaking children, so, shut up, and listen.
I was enjoying a cocktail at Winstonâs (I know, many of you are jealous, but they only let classy people in, not celeb wannabes who will pant at the sight of Justin Weiner) and I overheard some juicy gossip that I just had to share!
Apparently, Miss Clara Stephenson, the daughter of Elite Magazine owner, Bishop Stephenson (I donât know why you all pour over it like itâs a bible, my writing is way more entertaining) is going to be spending her days in federal prison! I wonder what the little bitch did! Do any of you know? Send it in and there will be treats coming your way.
Hugs and kisses,
Madison Ackerman
levi-stephenson:
He let himself concentrate on Claraâs worried face, forcing the dull ache in his chest to dissipate.
ââŠYouâre right. Deering is them. Hawaii is you.â Levi murmured softly, pressing a protective kiss to the side of her temple. With those words, he felt the control settle back into his own hands.
âI know.â He cut her off before Clara could continue. âI know that no one wouldâŠappreciate it.â Levi smiled wryly, failing to think of a better term at the moment.
âYou donât?â He hummed in thought, eyes glazed over for a moment. âWhat do you think would have happened if we never happened?â
Clara pressed her lips together, biting her tongue gratefully for his interruption. âIâm still not sure itâs...â She searched for the right words, only coming up with names. Isobel. Liam. Jake. Ivy. The people they had left behind. The ones who were still alive and calling and writing and wanting to visit. âI wish it wasnât...â
âYou tell me,â Clara narrowed her gaze, tracing the curve of his nose. âI want to know what you think.â
levi-stephenson:
âIf I were to ever go back to Deering, visiting Mom and Dad would not be the first thing on my mind. But the cemeteryâŠâ Levi sighed to himself, letting go of her hips, glancing away in thought.
âIâŠâ He tried to protest, tried to say that he would have been able to pull himself out, but even he knew the truth. ââŠyeah. Youâre right. If I go back thereâŠIâm not sure how long Iâd be justâŠlost.â
Levi focused back on Clara, already feeling the clutch of the cold depression that was Deering on his mental state. He let a finger trace her cheekbone before cupping her face, the beautiful glint of her eyes making a faint smile appear. Levi was here now. Not back in Deering. ââŠdifferent how?â
Clara didnât want to see the longing in Leviâs eyes for a place she so despised. She didnât want to know that he was in love with a ghost, who rested in the heart of the black hole they once called home.
âFocus,â she whispered, pulling him back from the icy memories. âWeâre not in Deering, Levi. Weâre in Hawaii.â
His hand cupped her cheek, signaling his return to this new world they inhabited. Sighing with relief, Clara covered his hand with her own, eyes wide, âwell, for one, we wouldnât be together. You know that would... No one would...â
Shaking her head, she smiled apologetically, âI donât want to talk about what might have been.â
levi-stephenson:
Levi instinctively shut his eye when he felt the kiss, faking a disgusted expression.
His arms went back down to rest loosely around her hips. âCall me crazy but I almost want to go back to Deering. Just for a visit.â He murmured, more to himself than to Clara.
Leviâs eyes followed Claraâs wrist as it went along the collar of his shirt, brushing a hair away from Claraâs eyes. âDid they? I wasnât aware.â
âA visit?â she pulled away, looking skeptical. âAre you going to pop in and visit mom and dad? Maybe stop by the cemetery? Thatâs where most of our friends are, you know. The ones that are still there, anyway. Everyone else either left or accepted being miserable. Please...donât go back there. Iâll never get you out again.â
He brushed the hair from her eyes, and Clara chewed her lower lip, still stuck in her previous thought. âThatâs what I heard, anyway. Itâs so different, Levi. If we had stayed...we would have been so different too.â
levi-stephenson:
A light chuckle left Levi at her words, but he was in too good of a mood to retort. One of his hands ran up spine to the back of her head, pressing her close.
âOther than me? No. You havenât missed much.â He smiled a bit, pulling away just enough to look at her face. âTime tends to move slowly when you leave.â
Clara shuddered, almost forgetting the feeling of his hands trailing up her back. Grinning sheepishly, she pressed her lips to his cheek, shrugging the nerves away.Â
âYes, well, Deering isnât a place I like to stay for too long, so the feeling is mutual,â her fingers ran along the collar of his shirt, gripping lighting. âIsobel and Ryder moved to DC or something. Did you know that?â
levi-stephenson:
Levi grinned, chest swelling and bracing himself for the impact. He let out a soft laugh as he felt Clara bound into him, arms automatically winding across her waist.
âClaraâŠâ He sighed her name into the side of her brown locks, pressing her close into a protective hug. The feeling of her in his own arms was distinctly familiar and brought back old memories of being able to see her on a daily basis.
âIâm a stranger with a name now, huh?â she teased, wiggling into the embrace. It had been a few weeks since theyâd seen each other. Sheâd gone home to see family and friends. Well, âfriendsâ. Deering was still Deering, and the world there continued without them, but there was still someone so freeing about being back away from it all.Â
âI missed you too,â Clara mumbled into his neck, finally letting out a long breath. âHave I missed much?â
levi-stephenson:
Levi let his head tilt back over the arm rest, eyes widening though he expected Clara walking through the door. He flipped himself over, resting his weight on his forearms, staring at her stupidly with bright blue eyes.
âIâŠâ He started, already letting a smile break out on to his face. ââŠhey stranger.â Levi finished, voice husky from lack of use.
Clara paused, caught in the intensity of Leviâs quiet joy. Feeling her legs ache to run, she dropped her suitcase, bounding towards him. For a brief moment, she was airborne, leaving the ground and flying right on top of him on the couch.
âHey, stranger.â
[lounges on the couch with the television playing in the background, looking at his phone for a possible notification from Clara]
Clara stumbled at the door, anxiously pulling her keys from her bag, fitting them into the lock with trembling hands. Breathe. Why was she so fucking nervous? Pushing the door open, she tugged her suitcase behind her, grinning stupidly through another stumble.
âAnyone home?â
I love you.
âI love you too. More than anything. Iâll be home soon.â
Disappointed you came back to this toxic place, Lena.
Thereâs no AL to come back to, Anon. I just came back for Clara. Not that she ever really left.Â
I miss you, Clar-bear!
