F2F // Lexa, Clarke & Finn
“You’re right; that doesn’t beat communications by much,” Lexa tease with a grin before taking a sip of her coffee.
She can’t help but notice the way Clarke is studying her, though she tries to keep her gaze cast toward the table to avoid any awkwardness that could come of her catching the girl in the act.
With the comment, Lexa feels her face heat up a little but it brings a smile to her face as well, which entices her to look up at Clarke again. “Thank you. You’re not half bad yourself - drunk or otherwise.”
“So, how long have you and Octavia known each other?” she asks, needing a change of pace from the compliments, knowing how quickly it could spiral out of control, on her end.
Clarke notes the change of pace in conversation and decides to allow it. Lexa seems visibly uncomfortable with this whole situation, and Clarke would really rather not make Octavia’s new roommate uncomfortable. She finds herself wanting to make a better impression on Lexa than she does with most new people she meets.
“We’ve known each other since freshman year,” Clarke says. “We met at a party -” Where we made out. As friends. The memory is a fond one for both Clarke and Octavia, but she’d rather not bring it up with Lexa. “And we hit it off pretty well. She’s also minoring in visual arts, so.” Clarke’s eyes flit back up to Lexa’s. “Are you new around here?”
F2F // Lexa, Clarke & Finn
Lexa mutters a quick ‘thanks’ to Clarke for opening the door as she makes her way in. Although still a little apprehensive about the whole ordeal, she feels more relaxed, in a way, after finding out that the object of her affection is already in a committed relationship. At the very least, she wasn’t about to be hurt in the same way she had been in her last relationship, which was something she could only be grateful for.
“I’m working on my Bachelor of Arts. Communications, more specifically,” Lexa answers, offering a half-shrug of her shoulders. “How about you? Something more exciting than business-type stuff, I hope.”
They order quick coffees and settle down in the bustling cafe. Clarke laughs slightly, shaking her head. “Something a little more exciting, but not by much.” She takes a sip of her coffee. “I’m in biochem, pre-med, but I’m minoring in visual arts.”
Clarke finds herself studying Lexa’s face as they speak - Lexa is a lot prettier in the daylight. Not that she wasn’t incredibly pretty before, but Bellamy’s house was fairly dimly lit that night, and this is the first time she’s really seen the other girl.
“You look really nice today,” she says before she can stop herself, and clears her throat, taking another sip of her coffee again.
F2F // Lexa, Clarke & Finn
“Just cut it off when he’s asleep,” Lexa jokes, looking over at Clarke with a shit-eating grin on her face. “You can thank me for the idea later.”
She fights off the urge to roll her eyes at the route the girl almost decides to take, as far as discussions went and, instead, waits for her to try again. Lexa can’t help but snort out a laugh at the question Clarke ends up asking her though.
“Some warmer than others. But, yeah, I’m liking it here. The profs are easier to pay attention to here than the ones at my old school, which is nice.”
"I’m glad,” Clarke says, opening the door to the cafe for Lexa, starting to feel a tiny bit more at ease with the situation (but only a little). “What are you studying here?”
F2F // Lexa, Clarke & Finn
Lexa gives Finn a curt nod of her head in response, watching as he walks away, leaving Clarke to fend for herself.
Raising an eyebrow, Lexa looks back at Clarke with an amused smile on her face as she watches the girl try to find words. It isn’t exactly the greatest pay back for not letting her know beforehand that there was a boyfriend in the picture, but it makes her feel a little better about it, for a moment.
“I could do coffee,” she says, gesturing for Clarke to lead the way. “You can tell me all about this boyfriend of yours, too, while we’re at it.” Needless to say, Lexa is less than impressed about finding herself in a situation where yet another ‘straight girl’ has caught her attention more than they should have. But, seeing as her roommate is obviously friends with the girl, she can’t write her off entirely and maybe trying to push aside those feelings would be the simplest solution.
“So, is his hair long enough for a man-bun, or does he keep it that length cause he’s stuck in the nineties?” Okay, so, maybe she can’t completely stop herself from being a little upset. Though, to be fair, she would just as happily ask him that directly, had he stuck around.
Jesus, this girl is ruthless. Clarke opens her mouth, about to say something snarky right back, but then she thinks about Finn’s hair for a moment and decides that protesting would be lying. Instead, she finds herself laughing, silently pleased that Lexa has decided to stop being as standoffish as she was just being.
“God, I know,” she says in assent, walking down the stairs. “I’ve been trying to get him to get it cut for weeks, but he won’t do it. It’s annoying. I don’t get it.”
“How was the rest of -” Clarke is about to ask Lexa about how the rest of her night went, but then she remembers exactly how the rest of Lexa’s night went, and opts to start another line of conversation instead.
“I mean, ah. How are you liking it here so far? People giving you a warm welcome?”
F2F // Lexa, Clarke & Finn
Lexa had all but forgotten that there was even another person standing there until Clarke mentions and introduces him.
Boyfriend. Of course there was a boyfriend. Lexa forces aside the lump she feels form in her throat at the word and instead offers up a warm smile to Finn, shaking the hand extended in her direction.
“I’m surprised Clarke didn’t mention you. Seems like something worth mentioning when you spend as much time at a party together as we did. Doesn’t it, Clarke?” Lexa says in the sweetest of tones, not wanting to let on how upset she is about the whole situation.
Clarke clears her throat rather loudly and Finn looks over at her, a confused look on his face, but instead of saying anything, he just leans over to kiss Clarke goodbye. “Alright, well, I’m going to go meet up with a few of the boys. I’ll see you later. Love you. Nice to meet you, Lexa!”
“Bye,” Clarke says hoarsely as he walks away, cursing him for not asking her to come with him.
Clarke has made out with girls before, but never to the extent that she had with Lexa last night. It’s only fair for Lexa to be giving her shit like this, but Clarke had been under the impression that they were both mutually just...having fun.
She watches him walk down the hall and turn the corner, and finally resorts to looking back at Lexa, this time making eye contact with her.
“Uh...” She reaches back to scratch the back of her head. “Listen, I’m just about to head down to the campus cafe to grab some coffee and do work. Do you want to - I mean, you don’t have to, but do you want to join me?”
F2F // Lexa, Clarke & Finn
Lexa ducks her head a little when she sees, out of the corner of her eye, Clarke approaching her. Being as enamoured as she is with Clarke, she cant’ find it in herself to turn down the opportunity to talk with her for a moment.
Over the course of the night before, she had managed to get herself drunk enough to let go of her inhibitions. So, the handful of times she and Clarke had ‘accidentally’ bumped into one another and let things go a little further than necessary, were written off, in her mind, as a ‘drunken mishap’ and nothing more.
“I’m…more than a little hungover, but good otherwise,” Lexa responds, finally lifting her head to meet Clarke’s gaze. “Yourself?”
Finn looks at Clarke expectantly, and Clarke realizes that she’s going to have to introduce the two.
“I’m the same. Er, this is Finn, by the way,” Clarke says, gesturing to him. “Finn is my...boyfriend.”
Clarke actively ignores how difficult it is to call Finn her boyfriend, especially in front of Lexa (for some reason). “Finn, Lexa. Lexa is Octavia’s new roommate. I, ah, met her at Bellamy’s last night.”
“Pleasure,” Finn says, smiling at Lexa and extending a hand.
Clarke is finding it difficult to make eye contact with Lexa right now, but she stands there awkwardly regardless.
F2F // Lexa, Clarke & Finn
Despite having a sleepless night, Lexa finds herself heading out to make the most of her Saturday - getting food and studying, at some point. Just as she is leaving her room, Lexa hears a couple of people talking down the hall. Not wanting to appear nosy, she takes a quick glance, but stops to do a double take as she sees Clarke leaving a room, down the hall, with some guy she swears she’d seen at the party last night. Quickly, Lexa drops her gaze again and begins on her way, hoping the girl hadn’t seen her - and, if she had, had no desire to talk to her.
Clarke is eager to send Finn off so that she can get some studying done for her midterm while simultaneously injecting herself with Powerade, so that she can get rid of this god-awful hangover. Their fight from last night - Finn getting mad at Clarke for ditching him at Bellamy’s party - has mostly blown over, but it’s not really as if she cares much about it.
As they walk, she sees someone standing a ways down the hall from them - it’s Lexa. Shit. It had slipped her mind entirely that Lexa now lived with Octavia, and Octavia was on the same floor as Clarke - but she stops in front of her anyway, hoping Lexa was at least a little drunk enough last night to pass it all off as nothing much.
“Lexa! Hi! How are you?"
livewire // clarke & lexa
With each passing second, everything seems to intensify more and more, almost making her want to run even more than she had before. How is it that she’s leading herself down an unknown path with someone she met maybe 10 minutes prior?
It’s unlike her to do something so reckless, but the feeling of Clarke’s lips against her own is making her head spin and the small part of her that’s telling her to stop is quickly pushed to the side. The girl is intoxicating and beautiful and the exact kind of distraction she needs right now.
Clarke is almost tempted to take Lexa’s hand and take her upstairs before someone bumps into her back, causing them to separate. She laughs a little, dragging the pad of her thumb against her own lips and brushing a stray strand of hair behind Lexa’s ear.
“There,” she says, giving Lexa a quick kiss on the cheek, “You didn’t even have to dance for very long.”
A voice sounds from behind them. “Clarke! Clarke!”
Clarke swivels to see that Raven is pushing her way through the crowd. Clarke turns to Lexa, too drunk to realize the abruptness of it all.
“Gotta go. I’ll see you around, Octavia’s Roommate,” she says, winking at the other girl before allowing Raven to grab her hand and pull her even further into the crowd.
livewire // clarke & lexa
Lexa is almost able to see the thought process Clarke is going through as the corners of her lips turn upward into a mischievous smile, all the while moving closer to her, if it’s even possible, at this point.
Given her track record with girls, in the past, she’s obviously a little hesitant to go for it. Lexa’s eyes flicker briefly between Clarke’s painfully inviting lips and her eyes as she tries to figure out if a few minutes of fun is worth any potential hurt that could come later. It definitely doesn’t help that she’s nowhere near drunk enough to forget any of this.
Pushing aside her gut instinct to turn the girl down (and run away), Lexa thinks ‘fuck it’ and closes what little space there is left between their lips. Just as soon as she does, Lexa knows she’s fucked - the spark she felt before, now turning into a full-blown fire inside of her.
Clarke’s insides start to feel illuminated as Lexa kisses her back. She moves her hands from the back of Lexa’s neck to either side of Lexa’s face, kissing her with increased vigor, definitely not thinking about how much nicer it is to kiss Lexa than it is to kiss Finn.
livewire // clarke & lexa
As soon as they’re face-to-face, Lexa wishes, for a moment, that she had had a little more to drink so she could at least attempt justifying her instant reaction of moving her hands to Clarke’s waist and pulling the woman closer.
The area is cramped and she can’t stop from wondering if Clarke had this planned out before they made their way over. It’s been a hot minute since she’s gone to a party like this, but she knows she’s never once been charmed enough by a complete stranger to be stuck in close proximity to them, let alone to dance with them when there was little-to-no space left between their bodies.
Lexa feels her cheeks redden at the comment, but is just as quick to laugh it off. “It’s really not hard to impress a drunk girl though,” she says, her lips just barely brushing the side of the young woman’s ear.
Clarke wonders what Octavia would think of this for a quick moment, but she’s finding it difficult to settle on one specific thought at the moment, partly due to the copious amounts of alcohol she’s drank, and partly due to the unidentifiable kind of magnetism that Lexa seems to exude. She’s distracting. Lexa is very distracting.
“Color me impressed, then,” Clarke says into Lexa’s ear. She closes her eyes, continuing to dance with her, feeling more and more separated from everyone else at this party, amused at how quickly her and Lexa went from strangers to being pressed up against each other (not that she’s complaining).
Then, without a second thought, she slowly shifts her face, brushing her nose against Lexa’s, smiling mischievously as she brings her lips close to the other girl’s.
(She doesn’t like girls. She just likes to hang out with them more than she likes hanging out with guys. And their lips are softer.)
“We should probably make out now,” she says, alcohol taking away what little inhibition she has left in her. “I think it would be really good for our friendship.”
livewire // clarke & lexa
Lexa hums a little in response, unsure of what types of things Octavia had told Clarke. Although, the name didn’t seem to scare her off, so she assumes it was good things being said about her behind her back.
“It’d probably be easier to get to know me somewhere quieter than here.” She hadn’t intended for her words to come off as flirty as they likely did, but she wouldn’t deny having thought about it, briefly. Lexa watches as Clarke’s attention seems to wander to the crowd of people and she worries for a moment that she’s about to be ditched for the second time tonight.
Unexpectedly, the young woman extends her hand in her direction again, prompting her to go and dance - something she usually avoids actively. Though, her subconscious pull toward Clarke has her agreeing just as readily as she’d normally turn down the offer. She quickly polishes off the beer in her cup and then obediently follows Clarke’s lead out to the makeshift ‘dance floor.’
“You’re gonna have to take the reigns on this one - I don’t really dance,” Lexa says as she tries -and fails - to keep herself from getting pushed right up against the girl in the crowded space.
Clarke grins again, tugging Lexa along into the middle of the crowd, feeling their bodies gradually press together closer and closer. The room is still spinning a little, but now that Clarke has something (someone) to focus on, she feels better about it. “Follow my lead, Octavia’s Roommate.”
She manages to turn around and face the other girl directly, almost completely nose-to-nose with her, and slides her hands around the back of Lexa’s neck, starting to dance about as much as she can, considering how cramped it is in this area. She doesn’t know what she’s doing, or why she’s doing this - she never really does. All she knows is that Finn is being unbearably annoying again, she doesn’t feel like going home with him tonight, and Lexa is about the best-looking distraction at this party.
(Besides, it’s not as if Finn would really mind. Clarke isn’t gay, or anything - she just likes to hang out with girls more than she likes to hang out with guys, most of the time.)
Clarke can feel Lexa’s breathing against her own lips, and her grip around the back of the other girl’s neck instinctively tightens ever-so-slightly.
“See?” she says, smirking. “You’re doing just fine.”
livewire // clarke & lexa
Lexa manages to keep her gaze off the beautiful woman just mere feet away from her, though it is surprisingly difficult, and instead pays more mind to keeping a look out for Octavia.
A voice pulls her from her thoughts of wanting to either smack her roommate for leaving her to her own devices or simply leave the party altogether. Lexa turns her head to see the same girl she had been captivated by just moments ago and she nearly chokes on the sip of beer she’s taken.
“Lexa,” she responds, shaking the hand stuck out in her direction. “I actually just got here. I’m hoping to avoid going anywhere near…any of that,” she jokes half-heartedly as she gestures lamely at the crowded room not far from them. “Might just leave soon though; I’m willing to bet that I won’t see my roommate for the rest of the night and she’s the only reason I’m even here.”
Lexa. Clarke knows that name - in her drunken haze, she vaguely recalls Octavia telling her about her hot-but-broody-and-quiet new roommate this semester; this must be her.
“Right,” she says. “Lexa. Octavia’s told me about you. It’s nice to finally meet the face behind the name.”
She finds herself stepping in a little closer towards the other girl, taking another sip of her beer. “You really shouldn’t go,” she says, “The party’s just started. And I’d hate to miss out on an opportunity to get to know Octavia’s roommate better.” Clarke takes a glance around their surroundings. She still feels a little bored, restless, but a lot less so with Lexa around. She then looks to the doorway of the kitchen, with the living room filled with throngs of people drunkenly dancing to whatever shitty pop remix is on right now.
Clarke extends a hand to Lexa, all thoughts of getting Finn his beer erased from her mind. “Come dance with me.”
livewire // clarke & lexa
Gruelling was the first word that came to mind as she looked back on her first week at Ark University. The only comfort she had found thus far was, well, hopefully in the bottom of a lukewarm beer. After her first year of college, she had pretty well given up on the party scene, opting to stay in and use the time for studying and keeping productive, unlike most of her classmates. Unfortunately for her, her roommate was quite the social butterfly and, by luck of the draw, she was stuck tagging along with her for the night.
“I’m gonna go grab a beer, or something. Want anything?” Lexa inquires, just barely managing to make herself heard over the loud music.
“I’ll be over in a sec; I’m just going to see Bellamy really quick,” Octavia responds, giving her roommate a quick flash of a smile before starting off in the general direction of the main area of the party.
After grabbing a beer, Lexa finds herself a somewhat secluded spot of the kitchen, leaning herself back against the counter as her eyes scan the room. It was just like any other college party, which only makes her further question why she had agreed to come. Though, when her eyes fell upon a striking, blonde, young woman, she almost wants to take the thought back. Standing up a little straighter as the woman makes her way over to the drinks, Lexa casually takes a sip of her own as she averts her gaze - coming off as a creep within the first week usually didn’t jive well with most people.
Clarke says hello to a few friends that she knows, turning down an offer to “take a toke” of Jasper’s vape (for god’s sake, Jasper), and finally manages to squeeze her way into the kitchen - the people here are far more spaced out, and Clarke feels like she can breathe again. She gets to the beer keg and fills up two solo cups near to the rim - one for her, one for Finn.
She’s about to turn and leave when she sees a brunette girl, looking off into space as she drinks her beer. Clarke finds herself staring for a few moments too long - she’s never seen this girl before. She almost looks regal, a prominent jawline, full lips, and bright green eyes - and Clarke knows she has to talk to her. She takes a few steps closer. Finn can wait for his beer.
“I see you’ve also come to take solace from the mess of a party out there,” Clarke says, grinning. She sets down one of the cups to extend her hand to the girl. “I’m Clarke.”
livewire // clarke & lexa
It’s one of those Friday nights where Clarke has convinced herself that she won’t have any more than three drinks at Bellamy’s party tonight. She’s got a biochem midterm in a few days that she hasn’t even begun to study for, and she’s pretty sure she’s got a cold. So, she takes with her exactly three cans of shitty beer and a bottle of water. That’ll hold her off for the night.
Of course, those nights always end with Raven feeding her one too many shots of tequila, just to prove that Clarke really does not have any self-control or respect when it comes to alcohol. This night is no exception.
Clarke is on her third shot of tequila and however many beers, and the room is comfortably spinning. She’s settled herself on Finn’s lap, feeling strange enraptured with the game of beer pong that’s going on. He’s loudly saying things into her ear over the blaring music over Bellamy’s speakers, but she isn’t really paying much attention - not unlike how their conversations usually go. One-sided, with Clarke paying attention to something else.
Lately, even when she’s doing something completely engaging and interesting, she’s still kind of bored, or restless. She’s restless all the time, just waiting for something exciting to happen - but then sometimes, even when something exciting does happen, it still doesn’t do it for her.
“Clarke. Earth to Clarke? Are you even listening to me right now?” Finn prods her side and she jumps, turning to him with a stern look on her face.
“I really wish you wouldn’t do that.”
“Sorry.” Finn gestures with his chin to the new group of people who have just walked in the door, led by Octavia. “Octavia’s apparently brought a few of her new friends from her floor. You should go mingle before you fall asleep on top of me.”
Clarke nods, standing to grab herself another drink. “Want a beer?”
“You know it, babe,” Finn says, winking at her. Clarke gives him a half-hearted smile back.
“Be back in a flash.”
