What do you think of the arrest of Maduro? On one hand, yes, Maduro is an evil dictator who needs to be removed from office and brought to justice—on the other hand, this is still Trump we're talking about, and we all know how much he loves to take a horrible situation and make it even worse

The right way to have done this would have been: Confirm with the at least our major allies that he is an international criminal who lost his election. Then with our allies we should have gone in together and captured him and sent him to be tried at The Hague. We should have made sure that the opposition (and legal winner of the last election) was ready to be sworn in backed by UN troops who will keep the peace and then have a multinational coalition to offer serious financial and bureaucratic help. All the people who were a part of the corruption need to be told that they too can be tried for their criminal activities but will be granted conditional pardons dependent on (A) not ever participating in the government again and (B) not doing anything to oppose any democratically elected government or officer. To further help the industrialized world needs to offer to take large numbers of refugees who can have jobs (and money they can send back) and relieve the stress on the system.

That would be how it should have been done if you wanted Venezuela to recover. We did none of that.

Further it’s appearing that the US case against him in federal court may already be wobbly. So this probably wasn’t even brining a criminal to justice.

It was theoretically the right thing to do but it was done in absolutely the wrong way by the wrong people and will not result in positive outcomes.
