Internal Anatomy Sculptures

Chinese artist Cao Hui challenges conventional perception of inanimate objects.

When fully assembled, the artist's modular sculptures appear to be like any other finely crafted structure, but it's upon dismantling the piece that one notices the insides replicating the color and texture of raw meat. Essentially, Cao gives life to a dead object with his constructed illusion, which is actually made of resin.

"Self deception is of primary importance as it permits a belief in understanding the surface as well as the interior. In this way the relationship between the interior and exterior of everything seems to possess a perfect logic, and can be interpreted with established knowledge. In order to deceive others, we explain with theory after theory, but it all ends in laughter and sometimes we even amuse ourselves before god laughs."
