I have to work.
John usually avoided talking about work with her, not because she couldnt handle it but because he was so used to it that it felt weird to open up. Especially since they werent together.
The king might be my uncle but I still have to do what he says.
".....and he's asking you to do what exactly?" She was being nosey and maybe stepping an unspoken boundary

I do anything my uncle or my pops ask of me. Most of the time is training new recruits, sometimes is killing demons that have overstepped, sometimes its torturing prisoners or souls. Sometimes its just dressing up and going to a party or dinner and doing politics. Tho they barely ask that anymore because im not very good at being politically correct with them. I always need a chaperone.
Most of the time, unless its training, I dont know what im doing, im told when I get there.
She listens as he talks

He finished getting dressed and opened a portal to hell. He was honestly unsure if Lucifer would allow it or not, especially considering his parents, mostly his mom and dad, didn't like her. But, to his surprise, all he had to do that day was pretty simple and his uncle had no problem she went along with him.
John came back, this time he had his knight armor on and his crown.
He says you can come, but you have to listen to everything I say, okay?
She was tying up her hair when he got back.
He could see visibly some of her concern went away when he came back and said she could come
"okay sounds good to me"
She gets up and grabs a coat, one of his coats.
Got weapons on you? Aside from yourself, I mean

Every demon there will underestimate you, they will think that because you are human, that you're weak. They dont care that youre a woman, they think all humans are weak equally. I need you to either not let them get to you because they will attack if they see weakness, or show them wrong. But if you want to attack, let me know first, not every demon can be killed easily or should be killed. Some of those assholes I need alive.

She would be John's Shadow for today, a continuation of her subconscious test for him

That I can wipe the floor with them if I have to. And if you come with me, it wont matter that we're not together, youre there as my partner and if they consider you to be weak, it means they found a weakness of mine. When they entered hell she took note of her surroundings
So... this is the room I grew up in. I knew, its unnecessarily huge, but I barely left in the beginning so it made sense.
And, well, this is hell
He said pointing to the windows. The blood river was visible from it, the red sky and the almost black sand made him feel at home. Jade saw him relax in a way she had never seen before.
She looks around the room and takes in the Little details still left from when he was a kid, and then she puts an arm around him and looks out the window. It was nice to see him relaxed
"did it scare you as a kid? Being in hell?" She was curious
No. I was in hell when I was on earth, but I didn't know who or where the monsters were. Here... it was so easy. I didn't leave my dad's side for a long time, but it was easy to know who was my enemy and who wasn't. Everyone in the castle was ordered to protect me, I wasn't allowed to leave either. I dont know, it all made sense to me very quickly.
My pops wasn't sure how to treat me, you know? But he came to my room every night and made sure the place was safe, that I had a knife under my pillow, that the guards on my door were to be trusted. He didn't know how to parent but he knew how to keep me safe. And my dad would read me bedtime stories and take me fishing and homeschooled me for a while. When my mom came along, she would cook for us and she taught me how to dance.
John told it with a smile on his face. He had so many great memories there. He loved his family.
She nods "I'm glad you had people to help you, people to take care of you" she was almost jealous but she wouldn't say that outloud
"How old were you when you got to go put?"
It was just a few months after I got here. They wanted to be sure I was safe before I could go out. And that I understood how hell worked.
"what did you tend to do when you got to go out?" She was learning things and she liked it, she wanted to know more
I followed my pops around a lot begging him to train me. I sat next to my uncle while he did king stuff. Fishing, too.
She chuckled "fishing? In hell? What would you even catch?"

She chuckled totally bewildered with the fact hell has fish

I have one of me catching my first fish on earth, but my dad has it i think. Ill ask for it later.

He kissed her cheek and then walked through the portal. The bar was normal, the difference was the people there. Demons of all sizes and colors. Some turned to look at john and some ignored him completely. He walked straight to a booth in the back and sat down, signaling Jade to do the same next to him.
We're waiting for him to show up.
She looked around the bar only to scope out her exits and who she thought might be a problem, force of habit.
Whe. John sits down she sits next to him and puts a hand on his thigh. She wasn't going to change how she sat next to him and pretend to be small around him, especially in hell.
He loved how she did what he asked without changing who she is. John loved her. A demon walked in, he walked straight to them and sat in front of them. He raised an eyebrow at Jade and then just handed John some papers.
What's with the human?
The human can kill you before you even notice she moved at all.
He said without even looking at him, john keeping his eyes on the paper. It was written in latin.
This is everything you got? What are you doing in gluttony? Sightseeing?
She didn't say anything, not because she was scared but because she didn't need to justify herself or her presence to anyone. And it was apparent in her demeanor she wasn't scared.
John handed her the papers and then looked at the demon in front of him in the eyes before he could answer his question.

He didn't know how to parent but he knew how to keep me safe. And my dad would read me bedtime stories and take me fishing and homeschooled me for a while. When my mom came along, she would cook for us and she taught me how to dance.

John usually avoided talking about work with her, not because she couldnt handle it but because he was so used to it that it felt weird to open up. Especially since they werent together.
The king might be my uncle but I still have to do what he says.

I do anything my uncle or my pops ask of me. Most of the time is training new recruits, sometimes is killing demons that have overstepped, sometimes its torturing prisoners or souls. Sometimes its just dressing up and going to a party or dinner and doing politics. Tho they barely ask that anymore because im not very good at being politically correct with them. I always need a chaperone.
Most of the time, unless its training, I dont know what im doing, im told when I get there.

If she was honest it was a little bit of a test.
She never purposefully does it to him, it's more subconscious. She's just worried maybe he won't come back, and the less she knows the easier it is for worms to get into her head.
He's never shown her he won't come back but she's got deep seeded trust and abandonment issues.

But, to his surprise, all he had to do that day was pretty simple and his uncle had no problem she went along with him.

Every demon there will underestimate you, they will think that because you are human, that you're weak. They dont care that youre a woman, they think all humans are weak equally. I need you to either not let them get to you because they will attack if they see weakness, or show them wrong. But if you want to attack, let me know first, not every demon can be killed easily or should be killed. Some of those assholes I need alive.

So... this is the room I grew up in. I knew, its unnecessarily huge, but I barely left in the beginning so it made sense.
And, well, this is hell
He said pointing to the windows. The blood river was visible from it, the red sky and the almost black sand made him feel at home. Jade saw him relax in a way she had never seen before.
She looks around the room and takes in the Little details still left from when he was a kid, and then she puts an arm around him and looks out the window. It was nice to see him relaxed
"did it scare you as a kid? Being in hell?" She was curious
No. I was in hell when I was on earth, but I didn't know who or where the monsters were. Here... it was so easy. I didn't leave my dad's side for a long time, but it was easy to know who was my enemy and who wasn't. Everyone in the castle was ordered to protect me, I wasn't allowed to leave either. I dont know, it all made sense to me very quickly.
My pops wasn't sure how to treat me, you know? But he came to my room every night and made sure the place was safe, that I had a knife under my pillow, that the guards on my door were to be trusted. He didn't know how to parent but he knew how to keep me safe. And my dad would read me bedtime stories and take me fishing and homeschooled me for a while. When my mom came along, she would cook for us and she taught me how to dance.
