GLEN POWELL The Hollywood Reporter (May, 2024)
“no i don’t have anywhere to be but it was doctors orders that i get plenty of rest because of my arm and you’re currently putting an injured man to work right now. that’s messed up clay.” leo teased right back, grinning at the fact he knew it’d be hard to fight against that joke or not.
"and since when did you listen to any sort of order? and might i point out that you offered to help. you can't play the sore arm card now" he laughed, nudging leo's good arm with his elbow "we teachers are underfunded, we need all the helpers we can get"
"alright using your furry son is messed up and you know it." leo commented rolling his eyes but the smile on his face showed he was still amused. "let's hurry up and finish all this before i change my mind or before you make another joke cause i swear i'll leave you to do this on your own. don't test me."
"maybe, but it worked." he pointed to him with a grin. the fluffy dog was the secret weapon. "what you got somewhere to be? am i second best to your plans? you wound me, leo. look at me so wounded" he teased in his dramatics, the back of his hand over his forehead.
leo stared at clay for a long time, his arms crossed in the process but despite his stance he still had an amused look on his face. the more clay went on the longer leo tapped his foot before raising an eyebrow. "you done? it all out of your system now to where we can move on?" he shook his head with a laugh as he grabbed the banner and held it up for him, "you're lucky your my friend otherwise i'd make you do all this by yourself after all those shitty jokes."
he couldn't help it and leo had made it so easy with his admission "all done, i promise. no more shoe jokes, we'll move on and never speak to your mishap ever again" he answered, clearly still trying not to laugh and using every ounce of willpower not to make another joke. "awww c'mon, don't be like that. you really going to leave this face in the lurch" he added with a dramatic puppy dog pout. "peanut, quick! pout at leo" he called to his dog who promptly joined in. "are you going to make my furry son upset?"

"okay that's it, i'm banning you from shoe jokes for the foreseeable future." leo shook his head at him still laughing himself, god damn was clay quick with the jokes. "alright am i helping you with your classroom or what? i'm one more joke away from walking out of here."
"one might say you're putting your foot down?" he made one last joke with a cheeky grin before holding his hands up in apology. "alright no more shoe jokes, i a-shoe-re you. okay, that was the last one, i promise." he quickly chimed in. clay picked up a banner "if you can hold this and i'll pin it up on the wall. the kids like the little pockets for a candy treat"
"wipe that look off your face, i know you're trying not to laugh." leo pointed out, trying to be serious but couldn't even get it all out without some chuckles. "i can't tell if you meant to say that as a joke but too soon man, too soon." he said full on laughing at this point.
"what look?" he answered innocently, desperately trying to contain his laughter. "i'm not...promise" he grinned, the laughter breaking through slightly "oh shit, i didn't mean that but you know, as they say, if the shoe fits"
CHASE IT!
Twisters (2024).
"damn, you had to pull the child card otherwise i would've been golden." leo joked. at least clay agreed to make him sound like a badass to tell other people but he had to tell him the truth first. "okay, promise not to laugh though," he started but didn't really wait for an answer before continuing, "my shoelace was untied, i didn't realize and then i was like that pitbull and kesha song where i was going down yelling timber, landed right on my wrist."
"i know where the weak points are" he chuckled. clay held up his fingers as a scouts honour to not laugh at whatever misfortune happened to leo but goddamn was it hard after his friend had told him the story. "yeah we're going to need to come up with something cooler. we can't have a shoelace be your downfall"
leo chuckled and put his arm down now. "do you want the truth or the story i plan on telling people who ask? because one's embarrassing for me and the other.. okay i actually haven't thought of a lie yet. i need to before i go into work."
"well we don't lie in this classroom unless there's an inappropriate question asked by a child, but still" he grinned "hey, we can come up with a story for you. make you sound badass"

"knock knock," leo said as he knocked on clays door of his classroom, "getting everything ready for the kids to come back?" he took a step into the classroom with his hands behind his back now as he looked around. "want any help? well as much help as i can offer." he said holding out his wrist that's now wrapped.
clay turned at the knock on his door "hey, yeah, not long until i get to listen to the kids belting out every song to their hearts content" he smiled, he loved his job. "do you want to help hang up these paper decorations? it's taken me embarrassingly long to sort them all o- shit, what happened?"
