Recently, I've been spending my time at Lucy's Laundromat. While my clothing is washing, I've budgeted for one single play of the #Marvel vs #Capcom game and it takes me back. Sure the ladies who work at Starbucks look at me a little funny for playing a video game that I must lean over to properly play yet they cannot see the 10 year old me who required a step stool to properly execute those match winning combos. When I wasn't begging my parents for another dollar in change to play, I was fantasizing about being the characters in real life. That same zeal fills me to pursue a music career. It consumes my days, determines my lifestyle, dictates my eating schedule and has and will, hopefully, continue to distinguishes me from the rest. Thank you mom and dad for the seemingly endless supply of quarters when I was young and now for the emotional support through the quarterless times in LA. #dreamsanddestitution (at Lucy's Laundromat)

When I watched John Mayer's performance at #SXSW, I began to harbor hope that I might some day get the chance to perform in Austin during #SouthbySouthWest.Thanks to my friends at @Willowwoodmusic, I am Austin bound to not only experience a world renown music festival but also get to play my songs! It was a beautiful day in Oregon driving by Mt. Shasta and enjoying the nice weather. New friends, good times, full days of driving and dreaming while listening to Joni Mitchell and the sounds of the wind. Today, freedom felt like an open window and a sunny day.

This is a shot of a Portland venue called Mississippi Studios and I can't wait to play here someday in the year to come. Perfect venue for a singer songwriter and one of the best in town. You can promote continuously and have no one come out to a show that you had hoped for and somehow, people find you who you didn't promote to and it happens. It's magical and unexpected, it is my life. When something that you had worked hard at doesn't come through the way you had hoped that it would but comes through in a more rich and unexpected way. Some call it God, fate, chance, luck or something else. All I know is that I'm thankful and so very blessed to be living this life. (at The Hotel Utah Saloon)

Last night, these ladies walked in off the street and listened to the rest of my set in SLO, they invited me to share my music in exchange for a meal with them in their home the following night, which was tonight. Back in California and it feels good. Living here has changed me and it became evident when I spent the holidays back in Iowa with family. Living in LA for a year has provided numerous examples of those who have lost track of their dreams when coming here. If I'm not careful and dedicated, the years will slip by and I won't be any closer to my goals. Life, for me is a careful balance between enjoying the ride and driving myself to the horizon, where my goals lie in waiting. (at El Porto Beach)

For the first seven years of my life, my father would cut seven loads, just like this to keep us all warm throughout the cold Iowa winter. My younger brother was just shy of two years old when we moved into a home with centralized heating but we kept the fire place. Dad is up top, running the chain saw, I'm in the middle, splitting wood, and the bottom photo features that younger brother and I after loading up the last of the wood we split.
