@cldfriend
Strip chess, y/y?
((Erik tried so hard to distract Charles so he can win))
((He still lose))
[insp.]
â - Youâve ever been scared of EVERYTHING before ?      Of being too careful with your own abilities, because you      donât know who around you will want to put a syringe in you      or take you & tell you what weapons to create ? â
Already she can feel that cerulean energy arising within at the thought. How scared she had been of everything, how when En Sabah Nur finally found her, he gave her more⊠FREEDOM from fear. More freedom to be herself, & how he treated her - kindness was still a foreign action towards her, & En Sabah Nur treated her with such a kindness that had her convert to his view of things.
â It was after I had a nightmare. I tend to roam around after them sometimes,    helps calm me down. So, when he appearedâŠhe said he prayed to the stars    before, asked if I ever heard his prayers beforeâŠhe said he could help keep    me safe in this new world.â
A look of SADNESS fills his eyes, and his heart grows heavy to hear the words; ones that are by no means foreign to him.
âThat is the fear we all live with as mutants, regrettably. One that often    comes after fearing our OWN abilities. It is unfortunate to live in a world    where some view us as nothing more than a laboratory subject, and Iâm    sorry youâve experienced that so young.â
His eyes never leave hers as she recounts the things En Sabah Nur told her. Pretty things, sweet things, lies. To prey on her vulnerabilities, just as he did with Erik. He muses grimly, reflecting on how fortunate it was that foe had become friend once Apocalypse threatened not just humankind but fellow mutants.Â
âAnd then...he enhanced your powers, correct?    Were the others with him at that time?â
[ @txssxractâ ]
âI hope you donât mind, but Iâd like to understand.â
Charles began, mildly as was his manner (especially when dealing with a potential resident of the academy). Though En Sabah Nur had been defeated, the professor would not dare to forget those almost lost to the needless conflict, and of those who had indeed so tragically fallen. He had to be sure that no loose threads had been overlooked, no latent threats which might someday take him and his students unaware. Thus, while Ororo (and now Tess) were welcome to his manor as student or otherwise, they were also his best bet in collecting information on the one called Apocalypse. Admittedly, he also had to rule out any lingering loyalties the former horsemen may be harboring. He hated to be distrustful, but not enough to let naivete endanger those he was resolved to protect.
âWhy is it that you chose to side with him, Tess?    Can you tell me about when he recruited you?â
[ @txssxract ]
It was absolutely infuriating to have this one barely seeming to even care that he had taken his abilities. Being mocked was one of his worst peeves, and it agitated him to no end. For none had ever dared to make mockery of his kind, and yet here was someone doing that exact thing⊠And more. Releasing the front of his shirt, and resorting to pace around this dull, blank, cell. A prison he had never wanted to be in, and there it was. A fate he would only condemn for the weak⊠Turning on his heel, casting such a glare towards the other once he heard those words come from such cocky lips. A rage within himself that he normally would keep in check. Now, it was surging forward, and he wasnât afraid to hold it back.     ââŠIt was not supposed to be like this! You were supposed      to be mine. I was to have your power⊠To be everyone⊠     What a beautiful gift! I would have loved to collect it, but no!      Of course, you and your children had to ruin my plansâŠâ-â Though, something with the rest of the other manâs words had him stall his rant. But what was this emotion now pouring through his senses? No⊠Not that damn fear!? Not again? Keep it together! Frowning hard, and it felt as if his heart were going to bust from his chest at this rate, but he had to not let those words affect him as much as they were doing now.
âI wouldnât have killed another mutant⊠All are my children⊠     Now, discipline -thatâs another discussion. For all deserve that,      in some way or another. Humans, on the other hand⊠     The weak deserved death, yes, itâs true. For what could      they do against the strong, except to dieâŠ?â | @cldfriend |
The professor had always been gravely serious when it came to dealing with men like En Sabah Nur. Men who sought to destroy the peace that Charles worked so hard for. Yet, call it arrogance or apathy, but Charles could not stop the corners of his lips from curling upwards. Blue eyes pierced Apocalypse like bullets, and that smile widened into a wolfish grin.
âYou know what game I enjoy? CHESS. It gives the mind a thorough workout, but    it is also a rather intimate game. You get to know your opponent like no other will.    Iâve won my share of games and I can tell you that the worst kind of opponent is    a sore loser. Ah, their laments are so tedious. Theyâve already lost, and yet they    act as though theyâve suffered some unjust fate.â
Now Charles brought the cigarette to his lips once more, pausing as he inhaled. Again, he let the smoke billow right into the face of this former god (a man so filled with ANGER at his circumstances). It was a rude action, so very vulgar, and yet Charles didnât think twice of it. Apocalypse did not know true suffering. Though Charles had gained all that had fled from the other, it was he who had been forced to drive away those he loved. All over again, he had lost his world.
âYou say the weak deserve to die?â The cigarette fell from his lips as they curled into a sudden snarl of anger. Still lit, it rolled away in a plume of smoke as Charlesâs hand shot out to grip Apocalypseâs neck. âYou dare LIE to me, to say you would not kill another mutant. What of Peter, what of MYSTIQUE? You held her throat with every intent to crush it. And now you...you are weak and I am strong. Does that scare you? It should.â
[ @everythingtheybuiltâ ]
âYouâre right about that, you know...â
He laughed, trailing off as he looked ahead at the view. Night had settled over them hours prior, and above them it was a view of the stars as clear as one could hope for. It was humbling, to sit here and realize how small you were in this universe. And touching to know that even someone so insignificant in the grand scheme of things, could possibly make a difference in the lives of young mutants.
It was also bloody COLD.
Drumming his fingers absently against the rim of one wheel, Charles felt (and heard) his teeth chatter as he suppressed another shudder.
âNow perhaps we should head inside, before we turn to ice...â
[ @peaceandmetal ]
Staring at the man, his expression hardening when he felt the missing part of himself was definitely his own abilities. The power⊠Itâs with him, isnât it. I canât tell⊠Eyes travelling down as he retreated to his thoughts, and they finally caught onto something that should have been the first indicator that everything was wrong⊠For Charles here, why he was standing on a pair of two good legs! En Sabahâs eyes widened, a low gulp, and he found that frown slipping away slightly when he looked back up to those cold eyes.
âGive. Them. BACK!!â Going to stand from the cot, anger surging in his veins at the idea that he was powerless. As if all the hells in all of their folktales would ever keep me from what is mine! A hand outstretching, trying to summon out his most powerful ability, even if the body felt so wrongly foreign to himself⊠There had to be at least this much left in him!?!     ââŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâ No, no!? Whatâ How?!? His face saying it all, and the realization was dawning on him⊠That there was nothing left, wasnât there. That he was helpless, as he says⊠â That godly anger coming back, and he hissed as that hand then reached to grip tightly against this smirking thiefâs shirt. | @cldfriend |
   âWould that I could.â
He responded wryly, eyes leaving Apocalypse to stare towards the farthest wall. Everything in the cell was BLANK, four slate gray brick walls that dully reflected the light of the overhead florescents. Charles had always found it distasteful to keep such a place, and had taken care to make sure that it was as far from the school as possible. Still, it had proved its use time and again from preventing weaker mutants from wreaking havoc.Â
And now? Well, Apocalypse certainly was a weaker mutant, as it stood now. His intentions (last Charles knew of) had been wiping out most of mankind. Seemed like proper justification for keeping him in confinement until things grew clearer, and yet...there was a part of him whispering âyou like it donât you, the CONTROLâ. It was silenced by the distraction tugging at the front of his shirt. Charles looked down his nose at the other, not sure whether he should laugh or pity the man.
âPerhaps this is your penance, for what you almost did to me.    It was YOUR failure which gifted me your abilities, and left you    a shell of yourself. Considering your old ideals, where does that    leave you and I? Would I be justified in killing you, just as you    believed YOU were in threatening humanity?â
His voice had risen steadily, and every seemed intensified by that cold blue gaze piercing through the manâs dark eyes. This was true anger, contempt for the man who would deem himself worthy of such a demand after all he had done. There was no question that Charles would have felt the same, amplified powers or not.
[ @everythingtheybuilt ]
ââŠ..?âŠ.. I was doing what I thought was right, Charles!       Iâve made the mistake in doing the work of a murderer,       like Apocalypse was. Iâve learned my lesson.â Did he? Even now, he could feel that hunger for it - the power - biting at his heels. The slightest twitch of his fingers, but all being wiped away once he realized how close it had been. The both of them were deceived, and of each otherâs own minds⊠Yet, it was Charles here that took the fullest brunt of that powerful force.       âHow was any of us supposed to know!? You were hiding       away from all of us, Charles. You sent away your children!â Fists balling when his son was outright mentioned, and the metallic objects in the room lurched outwards as his power gave a flick of itâs reach. You could just tell there was anger back in his bones.
âDo not bring him up, again. Iâve come here to see what the        problem was. To see why Jean had asked for me⊠       And I see it, now. Youâre in need of help, and I think she        was crazy in sending me. I am not the one that should be        standing here trying to talk to you. Iâm a hypocrite - youâre RIGHT.â | @cldfriend |
It was Erik who was right and he HATED it. Everything had gone so wrong, their victory had been so short-lived. Now Charles hardly knew who he was, and worse yet...what he would become. He both craved and despised this new power all at once, and so he had fallen to old habits, hidden AWAY from those he did not want to see harmed.
âI couldnât leave them here, Erik.â He said, in a voice taut with emotion.    âWhat would you have me do? I canât begin to understand this power, I    had to know what I was dealing with.â
Again he paced the length of the room, this time to rest an arm against the top of the fireplace. Wordlessly, he stared into the remains of its last blaze, as if searching for an answer there in the ashes. When he spoke again, it was in a small voice, hardly above a whisper.
âIâm lost, Erik. Who can say if Jean was right or wrong?    You escaped Apocalypseâs influence in the end, after all.â
Despite the deathly quiet cast to his tone, once those blue eyes rose towards his friend once more they still BURNEDÂ with life. There was strength there, scattered only by the chaos of uncertainty.
[ @peaceandmetalâ ]
No matter what they went through, or how many times they might find themselves on opposite sides, Charles never lost sight of the good in Erik (and he hoped that Erik managed to see it too, now and then). When all was said and done, they were still FRIENDS, and that was never more evident than it was now: with them seated at either end of a chess board, Charles sipping at a cup of tea while he watched the otherâs pale fingers linger over ebony game pieces in thought.
âIf you donât make a move soon, Erik, weâll    be old and grey by the time the match ends.â
He teased, setting aside his drink and subsequently losing any cover for the smirk playing at his lips.

Shaking his head, trying to find his senses again, and when he was refocused once more on his friend - he found the man to be in not too good of shape. There was a paleness to him that was alarming, and Erik immediately went to try and help. Feeling those fingers latching onto his shirt, and grabbing the younger manâs elbows to try and keep him upright.     âEasy nowâŠâ Easy, CharlesâŠ.. Charles!â Seeing the man collapsing in his arms, and needing to keep his grip firm, before helping the man with most of his strength. Dragging him over to the nearest place to set him down, a couch. Checking on him, brushing a palm against his forehead to tilt his head back enough to see if he was good.
âAre you alright? Charles, look at me⊠     Look, Iâm sorry. Iâll never do that, again, to you.      I promise. Just donât pass out!â | @cldfriend |
After only a few moments, the man seemed to come round. He was groggy, not even sure how long he had been out (the reality: less than a minute). Opening his eyes, Charles was greeted by a bright yellow light that slowly faded into the blurred contents of his private chambers. And beside him...
âErik...â He managed, taking a deep breath and trying    to gather himself. âI think that Iâm going to be ILL.â
Still, he wore a wide grin as he regarded the fuzzy outline of his friend.
âThat was bloody incredible. How the hell did you do it?â
[ @peaceandmetal ]
ââŠ..âŠ.âŠ..â Lingering gazes, a short inhale, and trying to keep his head in check. Seriously, the thought of having all that power, it was his calling. A shiver running down his spine, and fighting with himself to not react at that. Though, at the talk of his son being brought into this discussion, there was another matter all on itself. Displeasure rang through his heart, and a swell of protective arrogance coming to the fold as he took a step forward. Finally, allowing himself to fight back the horror of this news.      âDo not bring him up, Charles. How dare you talk about him,      about all of them, when youâve allowed for that monster to      infect you?! You! Youâre supposed to be stronger than all      of us, Charles??? How did you let this happen??â Brows raising slightly as something dawned in his expression, and a muttered answer to his own questions. Wishing that it was all in his head.
ââŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠ Or did you want it, once you had a tasteâŠâŠâ | @cldfriend |
âYou think I had a damn CHOICE? I was laying helpless and at his    mercy--while you were quite busy working at what again? Ah, right,    the DESTRUCTION of mankind. You never change, Erik, always    so arrogant.â
There was a flash of familiarity there, of the old Charles, the one who would gladly give his old friend hard truths in the hopes of bettering him. That was gone in an instant, twisted by bitterness, by sweet scorn.Â
âWorried about your son, huh, and your brothers? So tell me where Peter is now.    When did you ever care for anyone who wasnât interested in following your agenda?    Christ, I donât need this from YOU. Whatever you came here to say, Erik, be done    with it. I wonât just stand here and be lectured by a hypocrite.â
