Toronto police say its hate crime unit is investigating an early morning fire at a Jewish-owned business as a suspected hate-motivated arson

A grocery store in Toronto was targeted today (January 3 2024). It was set on fire, the windows were broken, and "free Palestine" was graffitied on the doors. The grocery store's name is "International Delicatessen Foods", and so its acronym IDF was part of its signage, which was likely the factor in the antisemitic attack. That, and/or the fact that the owner is Jewish.

According to officials, police and firefighters were called to the scene at about 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday. When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the rear. Fire crews entered the building and quickly extinguished the blaze. Gray said officers found the graffiti on the outside of the building at the same time that the fire was discovered. She said police suspect the incident was motivated by hate and believe it was committed "with bias or prejudice." "We're very early on in the investigation and I must highlight when I say it's organized, they didn't just happen upon this business. Let's be not silly here. These people have targeted this business and so that means they've been here before," she said.

Respondents also wrote in a number of derogatory comments regarding how they identify an individual as Jewish. These write-in responses included: “voice,” “mannerisms,” and “they are very frugal.”

Honestly, a lot of the left-wing erasure of Jewish ethnicity by considering all Jews to be white people like all the other white Europeans, except possibly even *more* white and privileged, strikes me as being less psychologically about intentionally excluding Jews and more about, like, not having to deal with the logical fallout of the consequences of structural antisemitism.

Because here's the thing: if you acknowledge that structural antisemitism exists, you then have to support efforts to undo structural antisemitism and consider the fallout of historical antisemitism.

If you contain it to one tragic event (no matter how huge) and also minimize it (because it's not the only genocide, have you considered __?) and universalize it (this teaches us about the inhumanity of people towards those who are *different*) and atomize it (people can be so weird about Jews and Judaism, they must really be an unusually hateful person)

Then you don't have to consider things like "hey are we still benefitting from structural antisemitism today?" and "are Jews still dealing with the consequences of structural antisemitism?" and "are our politics contributing to ongoing antisemitism, including structural antisemitism even now?"

So you came from the post in which I explicitly named three organizations working for a two-state solution. And didn’t think… to look into… their proposals for a two-state solution…

As a reminder, before Hamas’s attack, Israel was working on normalizing peaceful relations with Saudi Arabia. That’s dead in the water because Hamas broke a ceasefire and killed a thousand Jewish civilians.

Before Hamas’s attack, there were massive, frequent, and often daily protests among the Israeli public, speaking out against an administration comprised of anti-Palestinians. Those are on hold now, because a thousand Jewish civilians were killed, and the country is at war. But Netanyahu’s coalition of asswipes is built like a house of cards, and they’ll suffer in the next election. That much is clear.

Hamas wasn’t looking to gain territory, win, or free Palestine on October 7th. Israel has never lost a war in its modern history, and it has overcome far worse odds than a couple thousand terrorists. There’s no feasible way for Hamas to have won. They broke the ceasefire and killed civilians anyway. Why? Why waste those lives and those resources, knowing that Israel would retaliate against Gazans?

Because Hamas looked around and saw something that horrified them. They saw Arab nations, once their allies, walking away from the idea of killing millions of Jews in favor of normalization and peace with Israel. They saw the citizens of Israel, rallying in unprecedented numbers for peace and democracy. They saw Fatah, their Palestinian enemies since 2007, ready to come back to the bargaining table for a peaceful two-state resolution.

Hamas broke a ceasefire for a media ploy. They did it, knowing that it would stop the normalization process between the Saudis and Israelis. They did it, knowing that it would bring an abrupt halt to Israeli protests. They did it, knowing that Israel would retaliate, and that the world would be watching as Hamas put Palestinian civilians in the line of fire and blamed it on Israel. They were looking to propagandize a dying movement, and friend, it seems like you bought into it.

Something does have to be done about Israeli’s treatment of Palestinians. Something does have to happen to end this cycle of violence. And plenty of things were being done about it, in the Knesset, on the streets of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. But Hamas considers peace without genocide to be a failure. Peace without genocide leaves Hamas out of a job. So they put a stop to it, at the cost of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian lives.

And you don’t gotta take that from me. Ask them. They aren’t trying to hide it, they’ve been saying it all month. It’s in their founding charter.

Also, not the most important thing, but Hamas’s actions are not “obviously abhorrent” to most of the Western Left. This blog used to post memes about Jewish holidays. Now it’s a blog that combats the antisemitic wing of anti-Zionism. I would love to go back to making memes about Jewish holidays. But organizations like BLM and DSA, organizations that I used to be a part of, explicitly endorsed Hamas murdering thousands of civilians. And a lot of you fuckers on tumblr have done the same.

I haven’t posted on tumblr in forever, but I’ve had about enough of the rest of the internet and it’s antisemitic misinformation about Israel and what’s happening in Gaza. Here’s some quick bullet points (from someone who’s been to Israel, studied the history of Israel, and has been closely following the conflict for years):

Hamas is not a freedom fighting organization. They are a terrorist group. They raped and murdered civilians. They are not the good guys. Really shouldn’t need to say this, but y’all want to hate Jews so bad you’re rooting for people who are fine killing civilians on both sides.

Speaking of rape, supporting Hamas is being a rape apologist.

What is happening to Palestinians is awful. But it’s not a genocide. Genocide is a super specific term and what is happening DOES NOT rise to that level.

Hamas does not just want to take over Israel. They want Jews wiped off the land entirely, and they aren’t asking nicely.

Other countries have held parts of what is now contested land. But you seldom hear about those countries, just about what Israel has done.

Israel is not a colonizer. Israelis are indigenous to the region. This is literally just a fact. You can do with that info what you will, but historically, the narrative of Israel as the oppressor is unnuanced and inaccurate.

If you think the violence in the region started with the founding of the modern state of Israel, hooo boy do I have bad news for you. Read up on the pogroms here.

Hamas is really good at using the media to its advantage. Some newspapers you may think are more impartial or are coming from the region and are more accurate probably aren’t.

For some context this is the tweet in question, issued by a member of the "Israeli" government.

Anti-Semetism is a fucking problem and a stain on humanity, that should always first and foremost in peoples minds when a topic is about Jewish peoples.

Now the fact that "Israel" is the one making this announcement again fails into the massively Anti-Semetic thought process that they speak for ALL Jewish people everywhere, when that is explicitly not the case. Especially because then it reinforces their narrative that Jewish people will never be accepted by anyone and it justifies the state's existence and its crimes against humanity as being representative of and for all Jewish folk.

Now you can say that they mean this for Israeli citizens in the world and you know what maybe they should think about what their nation is doing in their citizens name and how that may affect them. I mean I remember getting shit for being American in Australia, Puerto Rico, and Mexico for what America has done in those very lands in history. I'm not saying it's right that it happens but if the government is making these warnings, they need to think about why people would be upset at them in the first place.

You're thirty-six, you grew up with phonics, you should know how to read at this stage of your life.

The PROBLEM in the context of THIS POST and MY LIFE is that antizionists can't keep their antisemitism in their fucking pants.
