A weekend in the Garden State!

We left New York City and headed for New Jersey to visit some family for mother's day. I have to admit, as soon as we arrive in Neptune I fell in love in an instant, the houses were beautiful, the roads were clear and the neighbourhood in general was sightly.

Feeling adventurous and super girly we decided to take a trip to the mall and the movies. The food court at the mall had so many choices however, I decided to go for the delicious chinese bbq pork and beef with some special fried rice - YOU LIKEEEEEEEE LEDYY? After we ate we headed to the movies which for some reason, as soon as my cousin mentioned it, the song from Annie kept spinning round in my head. The movie theatre was the complete opposite to the ones back at home, super spacious, comfy and cool, I wouldn't even mind going on a date there haha ;)!

MOTHERS DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We treated my aunt to yet another shopping trip after getting brekkie at ihop deeeeeeeeeeeelish! Cinnamon french toast with hash brown and bacon? Urgh, I'm drooling again! After walking around the mall for an hour or two in and out of clothing stores, we came across a shop called Bath&Body works which smelt like perfection, how could i not buy something? All 'malled' out we headed home for dinner before we headed back to New York :(

St. Christopher

This beautiful chain was given to me before I left for the US from my wonderful parents - The image on the medallion refers to a legend about St Christopher. The story is that he was helping travellers to cross a river, and had to carry a child across. The child seemed strangely, and almost impossibly heavy. When he had crossed the river, the child revealled himself to be a manifestation of the infant Christ. He had been so heavy because he himself was carrying the whole weight of the world. Because of this legend, St Christopher is venerated as a patron saint of travellers. His prayer and assistance is often invoked by those undergoing long or dangerous journeys.

I can honestly say that in the week that i've been here, I already feel it has protected me and kept me confident in my travels - from getting on the wrong train to loss of money i've kept positive because its a learning curve either way, being away from home for the first time by myself is certainly an experience.

Getting lost can be great sometimes… ( as long as you know your way back home)

I planned to go to prospect park top enjoy some lunch by the lake… However, I got on the wrong train in the wrong direction, but the cool kid that I am, I played it cool and stayed on until I reached Coney Island, the weather was perfect so why not? I got off at brighton beach and walked around a little to be honest I wasn't to impressed at first glance, until I saw the sea and the sand, oooooooooh child.

The start of a new path, the opportunity of a life time I'm here in the city that never sleeps, scared yet prepared of whats to come, I'm ready for this change.

First stop Brooklyn - being picked up by my lovely cousin from the airport our first stop was a food stop of course. We found ourselves at a lovely pizzeria down by Avenue J. 2 HUGE slices for $4.50?! Bargin!!! and delicious also We also stopped off at DunkinDonuts for a quick beverage I went for the iced tea with lemon and sugar mmmmmmmmmm although next time (YES, there will be a next time), I think I may get the cookie dough iced coffee. I guess it was a pretty chilled day today, in prep for trip to New Jersey tomorrow, to visit family for Mothers day.

A week to go!

Today will be exactly a week until I jet off to the states! Which is a perfect opportunity to begin this blog…

For the past year I have struggled with many things after the loss of a loved one. My confidence was kicked to the ground, my ambition and desires were lost and I felt as though my life was set for failure…However this has been a learning curve for me, I'm now going to take this opportunity to become an determined, acknowledged young woman.
