Because sometimes your own ships are better.
I had it in mind to call this a “Happy OTP Day” Picture instead since it shows recent pairings with my and some friend’s ocs,
All in all, Happy Valentine’s Day all the same~!
Was watching a person in drawpile draw their character and drew a response to it XD Ended up being my viera from FFXIV.
Was trying to cheer an art buddy up and it turned into drawing Rao from Okami. One of my favorite characters in the game :D Always love drawing the Okami style~
Super late for my New Years picture but rather than rats I drew the families of characters of mine I’ve RPed with other people. Here’s to hopefully a better year than the last!
And once again I’m back to attempting this design again. This is the Nyxx race. I tried awhile back to polish the design further by implementing more insect aesthetics but I failed, at least for me in terms of being satisfied with the design. The first image is currently the design of the Kocha, a tribe of humanoid honey bees, put simply. Unlike the Ukata, though, I’m not worried about the body structure this time, thankfully I already have ideas in mind for that and it’s just a matter of drawing them out and polishing them and comparing. This time it’s the face. I’ve looked online and seen some interesting designs but all the ones I like either compromise the head shape too much or look too human, and in the case of the former I wanna try and push for a more distinct design but still be able to design relatively humanoid head gear rather than specialize gear exclusively for their race (I’m thinking of this from a gaming and modeling perspective)...but yeah, this one is still a process but thankfully not a frustrating one.
That said one recent change I did make is that I reduced the amount of fingers on her larger arms by 2 and gave her human hands for her smaller arms.
I usually dont draw armor as I’ve never had a good experience drawing them well...but I decided to swallow my pride and let my inspiration take the lead on this one. I had an idea for what I wanted for the helmet and just went from there. This is another one of Ai/Ia’s tools/items, known as the “Armor of Kirdeth,” one of her lesser used items but nonetheless just as reliable as the rest.
Used as a defensive against magic or energy blasts, the Armor of Kirdeth protects the wearer from all concentrated, tangible forms of such once per use. This is done by activating the inlaid blackstone jewels in the armor, activating normally invisible seal markings across the entire armor. Using her hands, the armor absorbs all incoming energy through her hands, as the armor fills with the absorbed energy. This stored energy can then be forcefully shot back in what’s known as its “Paladin Form,” where the armor shines completely opposite colors from its dark, monochrome palette while bringing forth and charging up her hands with the absorbed energy before firing it. The armor quickly returns to normal before dissipating. Spiritual power and overall strength determines how much energy the armor can absorb, and so the value of its use varies from person to person. Once this counter is successful, the armor de-materializes, and Ia must summon it again in order to continue to use it, but this action is rare, as it requires a significant portion of her Ether to augment its defensive capabilities to the level it is used.
I think with this addition that leaves roughly 2-3 more tools. But yeah I’ve been on a roll with these, hopefully it wont take me long for the rest.
The Armor of Kirdeth: Lore
Eons ago, when the planet of this armor’s origins still existed, the armor was originally stored in pieces in numerous reliquaries before they were all reunited together later on. However, before that point the armor belonged to a woman named Kirdeth, a special kind of sword-wielding fighter known as an Executioner. A discipline founded mainly in the old country of Mesverys, Executioners carried out the executions of powerful people who were tried for death, as part of their namesake, but Executioners came to be much more. Becoming major frontrunners in Mesverys’ military, Executioners used their expertise in the power of Ether in order to silence insurrection and rebellion by purging radical elements on a far deeper level: by taking, sealing, or corrupting one’s chaotic and etherial power, one could essentially manipulate the affected and bend their broken minds to their will.
Hailing from the small town of Raedul near the castle city of Naelfeihm, Kirdeth was one of the first prominent ones of her kind to ascend to much prestige, becoming one of the strongest as well as coming to lead one the main armies of Mesverys before the appointment of the King’s current 2 children. During the time of Kirdeth, the Defender discipline had not come to exist yet, and it is believed that the history left by Kirdeth led to its later development. Enraptured by the cultural and ethnic destruction that Mesverys’ Executioners wrought on its western borders, Kirdeth came to the aid of many during Mesverys’ occupation, offering succor to the displaced and even protecting them from her own. However, Kirdeth had found a way to utilize chaotic energy and transform it using one’s own Ether, assimilating the chaos itself. Giving her new insight and enlightenment, she had learned this through the people of present-day Rivylsae, who had intimate contact with Nakaruii, resulting in the achievement of a form no other Executioner had reached in their development. It was because of this that Kirdeth saw the importance of the forest-city and adamantly opposed against its removal. These actions only grew bolder as the Empire grew fiercer in its assimilation attempts, and it had an effect on not only some of her own soldiers, but those in the opposition as well. Her loyalty finally came into question when she ferverntly opposed a superior commander’s orders to cut down swathes of the Nakaruii forest for further settlement.
Kirdeth became instrumental in inspiring rebellion against the Mesverys Empire, recognizing and recounting the brutal acts of its leadership as obscene and sinful. Though she was never captured, her armor was the only thing left of her after the events leading to the closing of Mesverys’ borders, along with her sword, which was lodged in a great rock that was said to have purified the corrupted land around it by releasing the Ether from her weapon. Acquired in different areas of the northern continent, the entirety of the armor was collected in different reliquaries and preserved accordingly, serving to present-day Choradia, Rivylsae, and Korvania as a reminder of the actions she took in watching over and inspiring change and aspiration for a better life amongst them, and “as a light to create hope to drive away the evil of the Mesverys Empire.” It is rumored that part of Kirdeth’s soul still lingers within the armor.
Based on accounts and minor folktales, the sword came to be removed some decades later by another, and inspired by the deeds of Kirdeth, used his prowess and abilities to usher in what would come to be called the “Defender” discpline that exists today. Though his name is unknown, the man is immortalized in Choradian history and mythology as a great, decorated swordsman that resides in the capital as the founder of the Defenders and a continuing legacy to hope and change. The association of both this hero and Kirdeth seem to have become synonymous with each other and have come to develop a religion centered around them, further myth and speculation turning them nearly into transcendental figures of light and redemption. Kirdeth’s more “factual” details seem to have been lost to time and religious fervor to the figure now praised by the masses, but pockets of society throughout the northern continent still remember the impact she made on future generations, however small or large.
Another tool in Ia’s arsenal. This time it’s her signature weapon, known as the “Sword of Akobaan.” Normally when Ia goes on the full offensive, she defaults to this weapon, as it is a well-rounded weapon with ranged capabilities when it’s unsheathed; the sheath itself is also weaponized, possessing a hidden blade on its decorated left side, while its right side is more defensive in scope. Made from a material called “Blackstone,” a solid material known for its highly resistant properties to various natural phenomena and capable of absorbing vast amounts of energy, The sheath can absorb incoming, concentrated energy, or energy that is tangible and solid in form (e.g. beams, blasts, lasers, etc.). It cannot however absorb the impact of the hit, so a blast with enough force can still overwhelm her in this situation.
Unsheathed, the sword itself can be used as a weapon, but what sets it apart is its ranged attacks. By establishing a spiritual connection to the sword itself, the user can release intensely-packed bursts of Ether powerful and fine enough to penetrate solid matter. However, unlike regular sword swings, these energy "slashes” do not break the substances they penetrate, but rather leave a residue of their energy within it, all the way to the atomic level. These “left over” energies remain inside until the user sheaths their weapon completely, reconnecting the sword to their sheath and igniting any lingering energy from the blade and exploding, “clean cutting” the material from the inside out and leaving a near-perfectly smooth side where the cut was made.
I’ve had this idea for awhile but never actually sat down and designed it. Given the work I’m doing for Ai/Ia’s character sheet I eventually had to come to this one. She has several other weapons she uses but this is her main go-to. I did a quick sketch in the 3rd image of how the ranged attack would likely look when she swings it.
The Sword of Akobaan - Lore
The weapon was forged eons ago by a race known as the “Yixari.” forged by two brothers, one forging the sword and the other forging the sheath, the weapon was originally part of a prototypical stage to creating certain devices and vehicles capable of cutting through tough materials, whether through the blades itself or, more efficiently, with the combined force of Ether. The added etherial component would help to make finer and more precise cuts, reducing reckless destruction of material and making it easier to make more intricately accurate designs. Before the sheath was made, however, the two brothers got into a fight, not long after the Ascent of Descent, their brotherly bond split because of the love of a female Yixari that they both shared. When she was later killed in the subsequent years following this event, the two brothers reconciled, and as a gesture of good will between them, the older brother made the sheath, which would come to be a part of the sword as one weapon, as it complimented its power and abilities by providing protection. The decorated exterior on its left side was not an original part of the sheath; this part was added on by a forgemaster in Akiato, weaponizing the sheath as per the order of its then owner.
And started working on the tools. Displayed here are what are called the “Monkey Scrolls,” or “Hanging Monkey Scrolls” (The latter is so named because of where and how they are located in the library of a temple).
[in this universe] The Monkey Scrolls and their respective powers were originally together as one, powerful weapon, which, during the time of its separation, belonged to a monkey warrior born through very obscure means. With the inherent properties of earth, water, wind, and fire, the staff was capable of a diverse range of feats. The Light Scroll (pictured next to the character standing at about half her height) is what provides the shape and stability of the weapon and its ability to utilize the other 4 scrolls together, and thus the weapon cannot be reforged without it, as it is the conduit for the fluid combination of all 4 elemental scrolls.
The four Elemental Scrolls that now exist come with their own respective powers which made the Monkey Warrior’s staff such a revered and powerful weapon. The Fire Scroll turns one’s own soul into a tangible, manipulative form of energy, allowing one to use it either as an extension of themselves or as a protective force. The Water Scroll carries with it a pristine, cleansing state of water that unclogs and purifies one’s mental and bodily impurities and obstructions, allowing one to quickly focus and develop their physical and magic skills. With its rungs shaped like the tips of a bottle, the water can also be consumed, the special water containing special healing properties that cleanse any illness, and prevent new ones from taking root. However, unless tethered to the Light Scroll, the Water Scroll retains a finite amount, and often takes years to replenish itself in water on its own. The Wind Scroll adds a near weightlessness to one’s physical form and loosens the power of gravity on them, granting them superior jumping ability and air superiority. It also grants supernatural senses by attuning one’s own senses to the world around them by using the five senses to achieve a deeper connection to nature through the air currents, and under the use of one who has mastered it, minor manipulation of the wind itself (This is how the Monkey Warrior was able to create clouds, and subsequently the nimbus with which he used to travel through the air). Finally, the Earth Scroll utilizes the power of resistance and durability, using the various earthen materials of the world to render one’s physical body with extremely resistant properties, causing even the sharpest of swords to break against one’s surface and the most robust of weapons to dent or chip piece by piece with each strike. This power however can only be used while standing still, and unlike the other scrolls, the Earth scroll must always remain in possession for this ability to be utilized.
The rest is just some more lore in regards to how the scrolls came to be, but yeah...I came up with the scrolls about...well now it would be about several years ago at this point when I first did this concept in an RP on iScribble. But after years of RPing with a few people the concept along with the place I put them in has become an integral part of some of my bigger lore that I’ve decided to write out in a state that is more connected to some of my other concepts here. It’s also in preparation for closing out the last bits of Ia/Ai’s story as I create all her tools/weapons for her character sheet. There will be more down the line but yeah, this one was and is fun to do. :D
The Hanging Monkey Scrolls: Lore
When it was believed that the humans might seek and take this power for their own after the Feng Dynasty began to show cracks in its stability and slowly decreasing ability to protect the lands of both where the Monkey Warrior resided in and the land of what the humans call “Onis,” the Monkey Warrior, in recognizing Shizu’s skill and prowess as a warrior and dedication to her protection of these sacred sites upon becoming the ruler of the Feng Dynasty took his weapon and separated it into 5 different sections with the help of a woman named Ia, which become the Monkey Scrolls shown here, in exchange for Shizu’s hairpin, a tool that contained within it’s silver bulb a divine incense that allowed him once before to repair and strengthen her kanabo during her first visit. However, while giving her the 4 elemental scrolls to covertly transport to the Onis, whom each clan would initially be in charge of protecting (The Red Onis protecting the Fire Scroll, the Yellow Onis protecting the Earth Scroll, the Blue the Water Scroll, and the Green the Wind Scroll), the Monkey Warrior kept the fifth, the Light Scroll, for himself. Later establishing a great temple to house himself and the scroll/weapon, known as the Yamayuki Temple, he stood guard over the weapon for centuries, never once falling into the hands of evil. It is not known if he still lives and still guards this final scroll, but no one of yet has been able to penetrate and ascend to the top of the tower that stands looming over the temple into the clouds near the mountains.
After the onset of a large-scale war that created a divide and eventually destroyed what little was left of the Oni and human’s peace accord (due to one of the Red Oni siding with the humans and alienating herself from her clans), the scrolls were in danger once more, and as the Red began to fall, the blue foresaw a threat to the security of all Oni. Sending away the Yellow Oni and her clan, one of the Blue Oni [Sannha] gave them their scroll while the lone Green Oni who was with this clan went with them, bringing with them the water and wind scroll. The Yellow, with the help of some of the Blue, would sneak into the Red’s main encampment and pilfer the Fire Scroll, before making their way to the Yellow, which then they would take the Earth Scroll. Journeying further East, as the Oni clans fell to the onset of the human armies one by one, the remaining clan members of the Yellow Oni made it to the eastern shores, where they resided for a short time until they were forced to sail the seas as the looming threat of human conquest crept closer to them. Upon finding an island, the Yellow Oni and remaining Oni clans settled here along with some humans, from which the people of this island would propagate and create an independent tribe. At some point Ia arrived and intervened when descendants of this clan were targetted by the eventual human groups that came to dominate much of the island in what culminated to become an era of swords and shoguns. Ia ascended to the ranks as one of the lesser female elites of society, allowing her access to the scrolls in which, during the fall of this era she smuggled them away along with a little girl named Eve, and made the long trek back to the Yamayuki Mountains, where they were returned and kept guarded by appointed shrine maidens. Ia then created an access point in the Temple’s library, where she could easily jump back and forth between this place and other areas to maintain an efficient means of ensuring the security of the scrolls.
Though Ia recovered the scrolls, their powers had already had a profound effect on the people that have come into contact with them. One of the Yellow Oni, who was once surrounded by a human military force while attempting to flee with other humans, swallowed the Earth Scroll in an attempt to keep her pursuers from taking it, and it wasn’t until her death some roughly 250+ years later that the scroll and its power could be recovered again; it was the last scroll Ia obtained before leaving, being the most difficult to obtain. By that point the Yellow Oni who swallowed the scroll had propogated a generation that gave birth to others over the years, giving birth to a race of humans that became quickly known for their incredible vitality and even more prominent physical longevity.
The opposing humans who invaded the island had possession of the Fire Scroll for a long time, further bolstering their spirit and solidifying their devotion to the causes founded in their society and the people that upheld them, possibly giving birth to some of the philosophical traditions of their martial arts that continue to be upheld even today.
The Water Scroll was inadvertently exposed to the natural waters present on the island and especially ones that ran from the original Oni homeland’s mountainous peaks to some of the human establishments below and beyond, affecting all who partook of these waters and increasing their resistance to many ailments and allowing them to physically progress. The Well of Wuu-Ra, which resided at the mountaintop of the original Oni homeland, is the most prominent example of this exposure. It is postulated that the alien material that gives the Well of Wuu-Ra its divine effects may have come from the scroll itself.
Didn’t really have a whole lot of time to draw so I did a quick sketch of one of my other OCs, Eunice.
Random dp draws of the Lajaharhi naga princess Azzina =] One of my favorite female OCs I always enjoy drawing. The other OC in the second picture belongs to @nakamih.
Kinda sorta a redraw/slight re-imagining of some of the WG senior staff that I drew some odd years ago (original one is the bottom); one is their present look while the other is their older look. I have plans to use them extensively in another story down the line and I would rather not waste the potential of these characters. They live in the same universe as 4 other OCs of mine: Raya, Clementine, Orca, and Domino. The races I’ve drawn up are also a part of this universe, but long story short, they’re part of an earlier time period. I only did 4 of them though, not sure what I’ll do with the silver-haired one yet. “WG” stands for “World Government,” a military entity managed by the association that spearheads the international alliance of nations. They operate similar to bounty hunters in this universe but the nature of their organization comes with jurisdictions that in most cases bypass many of the limitations and forms of diplomacy and political restrictions that bounty hunters are forced to adhere to and follow when operating on foreign lands.
Compared to the governments of already existing nations, the WG is still a fairly young entity that has gained rising popularity amidst many of the disasters that have happened across the globe which has prompted increasing action on the part of all world-class nations. The formation of the World Government was the result of deliberation between the international alliance of nations that resolved to combat, if not address these issues with some measure of sovereignty that would allow them to ensure the prosperity and continued growth of ALL nations. I’m doing the Ai/Ia character sheet as sort of a way to help close her chapter as I start working on these characters; she was part of a number of major RPs that have served to help fashion her as a character, and now that I’ve more or less figured out how her overall presence and story will be, I’m gonna eventually close out her arc as far as RP association as I begin to delve into this part of the lore and expand on other details. More to come later!
Annd the many expressions of Ai under different personas~
In addition to being able to change her outward appearance through the same methods she uses to conjure up her tools and items, alongside her cosmetic changes she can also administer personalities to be attached to her physical changes, resulting in near fully unique identities, though these created personalities do not entirely affect her real one, and a modicum of her actual persona can be found in all of them. The only things she cannot change/remove through this process is the color of her hair, the symbol on her forehead, and her physical appearance and physiology. These all remain constant no matter what form she takes. She uses her most recent appearance to cover her symbol by using her hair.
And the third and final pose of Ai~ I decided this time to add another important character in this pose. This one more explains her powers in addition to one of the tools she has. Ia uses a variety of different items in combat, but one tool she always keeps on her person is her memorial rosary. Its creation predates her own birth as it used to belong to her mother, but over the course of time she has mastered the ability it holds over other people. Tapping into the minds of weak-minded or weak-willed individuals, or while people are sleeping or in stasis (she can enact a temporary stasis by connecting herself to the person’s etherial network [the energy that flows through their nervous system], thereby forcing them into a nonactive state), she can directly tamper with the memories of an individual by extracting the necessary information and energy patterns and storing them into the rosary. This power, while effective in concealing her own identity and lessening any unnecessary attention drawn to her, can be circumvented in a number of ways. For one, the process of this endeavor requires her full attention. If the process is interrupted, the resulting incomplete extraction can leave a person’s memory possibly irreversibly damaged or fragmented, and she cannot fix this on her own without jeopardizing their mind. Second, if the person in question later winds up learning about and thus remembering her again, the energy stored within her rosary begins to develop a sort of “magnetic-like pull” towards the individual, yearning to return to where it was taken from, and damaging the bead in which it is stored as a result. The resulting reunion of memories prevents her from attempting to extract it again. Finally, the stored memories can all be returned simultaneously either in a deep, unconscious state, or by death. As the rosary belonged to her mother, and through Ia’s own use of it, the item has a special connection to Ia’s own energies as the rosary, along with much of Ia’s other tools, are often dependent on her celestial energies which come from her celestial origins. In this scene she was attempting to manipulate the memories of a girl named Eve, an otherwise alien girl who has been traveling with her for centuries. She saw the need to do this when Ia became the target of government personnel and did not want Eve involved. I will probably work on expressions next then go from there, more than halfway done I think!
Yaay headlight busted! >.> Did a little sketching last night. I dont draw Shizu very often, though I need to brush up on some Chinese history before I can really use her.
Been waiting for my car to get repaired so in the meantime I’ve been doing alot of drawing...probably dont have enough energy to do another so ima hit the hay~ These are more poses I’ll be adding to Ai’s character sheet~
I spent quite awhile trying to figure out how to design this race...after spending some several hours trying to draw this concept up I think this may be my last attempt to try and get it the way I want.
Anywho I'm happy with how this attempt turned out...assuming I go with this one I may make some tweaks to the legs so they look more discernable, but yeah. Part of me is worried they might be too beastly...I'm trying to see how far I can go with this without making them too animalistic, as they already have a bestial counterpart/ancestor, so I dont want to make them too similar. I've made some features more pronounced and animalistic compared to my last attempts.
Gonna work on the male version in a bit~
