the results:

perf example of how uncomfortable boys are with women owning their own awesomeness. for many men, beauty, coolness, desirability are gifts they alone can bestow upon women. they get baffled, even aggressive when you show you’ve known you possess those things all along.

Shoot Spin-Off Ideas

Alright so thinking more about a spin off, and what I’d want to see in it, in no particular order:

Root most definitely faked her own death, with the help of TM, and or Team Machine B, it was what needed to be done to push Harold

Shoot reunion , Root being witty when they first meet up, Shaw telling her to shut the front door, then kisses her (like at the stock exchange) then Shaw is prooooobably pissed at Root for making her believe she was dead. Obviously Root regrets not being able to tell her, but they work it out :) (Root owe’s Shaw all the steak and sex)

Shaw confusing TM and Root sometimes

Giving the TM a name…Hope? (seen that floating around tumblr)

Big Sister Machine, just as annoying as Root (Shaw’s words not mine)

Schrodinger’s Root

This Dramatic Gay Faked Her Own Goddamn Death And I Will Not Be Convinced Otherwise

In 1935, Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger proposed a famous paradox involving a box, a cat, and a radioactive substance, to illustrate the principle of “superposition” in quantum physics. Take a steel box. Lock a cat inside it alongside an atom that will go radioactive (killing the cat) when it decays. The atom could decay at any time, and there’s no way to tell from the outside whether it has done so yet or not. According to the prevailing theories of quantum mechanics at the time, Schrödinger’s thought experiment suggested that the cat was simultaneously alive and dead until the box was opened and it was proven definitively one way or another.

We started off the season with a Schrödinger’s Elias, both dead and not until last night’s episode. We didn’t see him die at the end of Season 4, but were simply told that it had happened offscreen. We saw other characters react to his death. We saw situations unfold that implied his death was a given. Then we learned that he had actually been alive the whole time, hidden at the safe house. Then, in the episode where he actually died – where we saw him die, we saw both the moment and the aftermath – we got Root bringing up Schrödinger to Shaw in the context of a discussion about Shaw’s complicated relationship with reality in the wake of her 9 months of psychological torture … and then we were told Root was dead.

We all live in the real world, and we’re watching this television episode in the year 2016, just a few months after the character of Lexa was killed off The 100 with a stray bullet and ignited a firestorm, ranging from vital fandom and media attention towards the horrifyingly prevalent nature of the “Bury Your Gays” trope (especially as it pertains to queer women), to ugly Twitter attacks on showrunners, writers, and even actors, to complex conversations about where the rights of artists to tell the story they want to tell and the rights of audiences to demand better representation converge – in sometimes explosive ways. And full disclosure, my first reaction to the news about Root, before I’d even had the chance to watch the episode, was the same as that of every other queer woman I know:

Not again.

Please. Not. Fucking. AGAIN.

Not with, like, the invincible queer women ship that has been the shining, more-or-less-trope-free beacon of hope in the femslash fandom. Let Root and Shaw go out in a hail of bullets, hand in hand, saving the world, at the end of the finale, like we’ve all believed all along they would. Please, PLEASE don’t tell me you motherfuckers fridged her with a stray bullet to service a man’s story.

But fam, I finally watched this week’s two episodes today, and I am here to tell you, I am ONE MILLION PERCENT convinced that Root is not dead – that she is, in fact So Extra that she faked her own death to provoke Finch into uncaging the Machine.
