To know living in a mans world is one thing, but to be actively reminded is crushing
“Self-trust is the first secret of success.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
it’s scary how many people think they want to die when really they want to start living
this is so accurate im crying
I envy those with the ability to be their true self
I wonder, is it conscious?
Sometimes my soul yearns for a missing piece, unprovoked.
What will make me feel whole?
The most saddest thing about my life is that… They will never know what i truly feel.

About motivation
You’ve been a lot to ask me about how to stay motivated, especially in exam period. I know it can be quite hard to focus (even for me it’s challenging!) but I’ll give you some tips I personally use when I’m super un-motivated.
Build a routine. Really try to stick to a routine when you come back home from school, do what works best for you! I personally know that when I have a routine all becomes kind of « automatic » and it gets actually easier for me to study since it became part of my routine! Start slow ! For example, fix yourself a 1-hour study session every evening, then add another hour, etc. Don’t forget to also add some activities in your routine that isn’t study related like working out, reading, etc.
Find a good playlist. You can find tons of them on Youtube. I think it’s better to listen to an instrumental-only playlist so you can get more focused. I know that when I listen to certain playlists, I really get in the mood to study!
Upgrade your workspace! I already wrote a whole post about it here :) With a new and organized workspace, it will be more welcoming and you’ll actually want to spend more time there and therefore study more!
Find your WHY. And I know you’ve heard this one over 10000 times, and that’s because it is SO important. You hate math at school? Think about how amazing it is to use math as an instrument to think and to develop our way to resolve problems! Take every lesson as if it was an occasion to learn something new or at least an occasion that will get you closer towards your dream job/ university
Know when you’re effective. For example, I know that I work better under pressure, so I tend to procrastinate more and then study 10 hours a day the 2 weeks before an exam. So yes, sometimes my pre-exam anxiety is my main motivation to get through everything. Of course, this one doesn’t work if your exam is in two days!
Test yourself. This one works wonders for me. And you know why? Because when I test myself and I actually see all the mistakes I make and it reminds me that I need to study more and I get so stressed that after taking a fake test I’m able to study for 5 hours straight in order to answer all the questions I did wrong aha
Take breaks. It’s totally OBVIOUS and NORMAL that if you’ve been studying for hours without taking a proper break you’ll lose motivation. You’re not a robot. If you just feel you’ve been re-reading the same page of your textbook over and over it’s just time for you to do something else! If you’re short on time, here are some « break taking » ideas. If after a 10-minute break you’re still not effective, I would recommend taking a longer break, like an hour, before starting to study again!
Discipline. Yeah, I know everyone talks about that so-called motivation and blah blah blah but the truth is : no one really wants to stay all day at home or in a library to study. No one really likes getting up at 6 am for a morning workout (or at least for me), but what keeps us going is self-discipline. Sometimes you gotta force yourself, one step at a time, and you’ll see that you’ll trigger your inner « study machine » without even noticing it. Note that this point can be linked to the first one!
Find yourself a study buddy. It isn’t really my thing since I prefer studying alone, but I know that for some people it really makes a difference. Of course, it has to be a study partner and not a gossip partner!
Study in a library or in a coffee shop. I personally prefer coffee shops. I don’t know why but actually having people around me kinds of pressures me to study and to focus and I feel guilty when I check my phone as if people were looking at me because I wasn’t studying. I don’t know if you sometimes feel the same way, but, try it anyway.

Bullshitting
I’m just over a month away from my last day of classes as an undergraduate student (hopefully) and I’m DONE bullshitting. Despite my interest in writing, paper writing has proven to be an obstacle for me these last two years. Take, for instance, my senior thesis. I took a class specifically dedicated to writing it and preparing for graduation, yet, barely managed to submit a still unfinished paper 3 months past the deadline. This semester has shown nothing different.
Well, as far as papers anyway. (I finally had classes that administered tests and i’ve aced them all, so far. Woohoo)
Anyway, tonight I sat down to write a paper* I had given up on days ago. Not only did I believe that the deadline was this passed Monday instead of tomorrow (Thursday), I also did not read 3/4 of the material that I am supposed to discuss.
I sat down tonight around 1 am to begin this paper on the recommendation of a fellow classmate to “just bullshit it,” with his paper as an example.
Type...
Erase...
Type...
Erase...
Sound familiar?
I question my ability to bullshit such a paper.
I question my right to regurgitate the work and opinions of others as something I call my own.
I question the validity in speaking on something you know so little about.
I question the purpose and value in bullshitting a product that ultimately reflects my mind.
Maybe the moral of the story here is that I need to actually do my homework and not procrastinate so heavily, however, I can’t help but wonder why I bullshitted most of my education and more importantly, how I got away with it.
*Not that you care buuuut: A majority of the papers I’m asked to write are theoretical in foundation or are extensive research papers on topics relatively new to our minds. This particular paper, however, is an analytical paper that applies the concepts found within three scholastic articles pertaining to agency and structure to the lives of the teenage girls found with Nikki Jones’ ethnographic novel, “Between Good and Ghetto.”
Thoughts on the Idea of Happiness
Does running make you happy?
How about living by a healthy, nutritious diet?
Maybe looking and feeling good?
If you answered yes to the first two questions, chances are, you already know what I’m talking about. If you only answered yes to the last question, well, we have some work to do, my friend.
Everywhere you look, there is a push to be happy; subliminally and even overtly conveying that if you’re not happy, you’re doing something wrong. Whether it be McDonald’s and their “Happy Meal”, a premium car commercial or your favorite self-help book telling you to look toward brighter days, there is a wide variety of products to fill your “vacancy” for happiness.
The thing is, though, happiness is an emotion. It is a mere feeling that comes and goes just as any other emotion. In my opinion, emotions - good and bad - are to be observed and appreciated, not lived by. If we’re striving to live our lives by happiness, we’re ultimately fighting a losing battle. The commodification and consumption of happiness in response to unhappiness may perhaps even be a producer of unhappiness.
Something I hear often, and truly believe in despite personal battles with depression, is that you must choose happiness. There are days when I’m so depressed, I can’t even remember what it is to feel happy, but the concept remains in the back of my head for the day I might be ready to make that decision. But as I think more about the topic, it’s not that we must choose happiness, but we must choose positivity, we must choose growth, we must choose resilience, we must choose balance, we must choose OURSELVES. The list could go on and on, to which I have yet to develop a theme, but the point is that we must choose to keep moving forward. If not today, then tomorrow. If not tomorrow, then next week. If not next week, then one day.
The way I see it, life is about balance. We need to find the good in the bad, the bad in the good, and everything in between. We need to appreciate the bad times and failures just as much as we appreciate good times and successes. We need to find as much beauty in the journey as we do happiness in the destination.
If presented with a choice between cake or cauliflower but cake is what makes you happy, chances are you’re going to choose cake. If presented with an opportunity to meet with a gym trainer before work at 6 am or sleep until 8 am and sleep is what makes you happy, naturally you will choose sleep. Both of these example decisions are based off the strive for happiness when in reality, what they’re potentially doing is destabilizing your balance.
“Nothing good ever comes easy,” right? Moving forward isn’t going to, either. Neither is happiness or balance. I urge you to keep moving forward, find your balance, and appreciate life.
Did you trust yourself this week?
Fail
I don’t know what to write.
Or think. Or do.
I’ve started over more than a few times. It seems like I’m wasting my time even trying.
Write... Erase...
Write... Erase...
Over and over and over again.
The funny thing is... I actually prefer writing over speaking. See, at least when I'm writing I can erase. Speaking is a different story.
Every time I raise my hand, every time someone asks me for my opinion, every time I get too engaged in a situation, This irrational fear of failure hits me.
I'm scared I won't meet expectations. I'm scared I'll be wrong. I'm scared I'll be too much.
Somewhere along the road, I gained this unrealistic ideal of perfection. When I see something that could be improved in even the slightest way, It nags at me, mirroring the voices of my family.
"Why didn't you start earlier? Why didn't you dress differently?
Why didn't you say anything?
You shouldn't have said anything! Think before you speak. Think! Think! Think! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!"
Through the years I've whittled myself down Down to where I don't know if there is a self anymore. All to achieve the unachievable.
I spent my time weeding out defining characteristics. Almost like a gardener pulling weeds, Except, I failed to plant any flowers.
For a while, my mind was barren. Craving the nurture of touch, the security of roots, the beauty of growth and life.
It took me too long to realize that only I could cultivate my mind.
Characteristics need to be improved, not removed. & Fearing failure, can only make you fail.
Even in the most peaceful surroundings, the angry heart finds quarrel. Even in the most quarrelsome surroundings, the grateful heart finds peace. #life #happy #quotes #inspiration
