Mansplaining protip:
When a man starts explaining a concept you already told him you understand, instead of saying āI knowā over and over until you die, try one of these:
Ok, which aspect is confusing you?
It seems like you have the basics down; Would you like me to recommend some good articles so you can get a more nuanced understanding?
So did you have a specific question, or do you just want a more in depth explanation?

I overheard one woman say:
āWow, you just wasted a lot of time convincing yourself Iām an idiot.ā
This dog absolutely KNOWS that she's beautiful, she KNOWS
I was engaged to this orchestra pianist and she she was on tour in the Mediterranean for the past two years and she wasnāt gonna come to America for three more years. I found a way to get there to see her, and gave her a dolphin necklace that I tried to give her once before, when I proposed actually. She gave me a watch necklace in return to count down until she was coming back to America for me. It was set in the 20s for some reason and this guy who was married to my āsisterā was trying to tell us it was illegal for us to get married, but we were ignoring him.
There's a link to the news in English. She withdrew the bill, but stills not responding to the four other demands and still talks about the demonstrations as riots
Fully withdrawing the controversial bill has been one of the key demands during months of protests.
To everyone that thinks that it is enough, that the people already won, let me tell you that it isn't. Not when people are being treated as criminals for peacefully protesting. Not when the government that let the situation escalate like that is still in place without elections. Not when the police's actions will be reviewed by the government that let them happen and probably won't be held accountable. The Hong Kong's people asked for five demands, one to not live in fear of China and four to make sure that isn't payed with the citizens and to held the government accountable. It is a big win, but it's not the end.
There's the video they made for the five demands
Iāve heard mention of theĀ ā5 demandsā often without an explanation of the other 4. The video shows them but just in case I will list them from the video below:
Retract theĀ āriotā characterization, release of all arrested protesters (especially wounded and students), investigation of police brutality, and resignation of Carrie Lam.
The Keeper of Dreams
For @one-time-i-dreamt, the fae we all know best.
Warden of the vault of secrets where records of nightly journeys are kept.
Conductor of those bittersweet and heartfelt visits, when those whoāve gone before us return for brief and savored moments when there not quite as gone as when we wake.
Teaching us not to take for granted our waking lives where normalcy is the expectation; the unusual is feared and fled.
When we dream our senses slumber imagination long discarded wakes. To bring to life our fears and passions, our fiercest loves and deepest hates.
We dream of drowning, flying, laughing; crying, dying, sometimes of being next to you. We dream of things we canāt imagine, and also of things we wish were only thoughts.
In dreams our waking selves have no power, to enforce rules and keep chaos at bay,
and so our minds begin to wander, and you come in to help and play.
You shepherd our thoughts and quiet musings, planting seeds to reap and share. With all of us, we few, we many, whose lives are filled with dreary grey,
And hearing about the imagined lives of others, and what they want themselves to know, brings to our minds a quiet subconscious wondering, what should I tell me so I may grow?
Our beds are easels, you our muse, you cut off our reigns and set us loose, When next you come upon me napping, nodding off, or merely snoozing,
Please bring me a dream of peace, of idyllic meadows and happy days. Or bring me one of tempered sorrow, with just enough despair to appreciate my joy filled days. But above all else this wish I ask you, Bring me a dream of a better future, and what we must do to change our ways.

The Best ATM Withdrawal Defense
Iām here for women with powerful dogs!
My land lady is a 90lb 88 year old woman with 5 full grown Rottweiler boys. They sit around her when she gardens and watch her like the secret service. If you show up to pay rent they all stand up and stand between you and her.
Itās intimidating to have 5 pony size boys all staring at you until she stands up realizes itāa you and walks to you.
My favorite part is she wades through them like swamp water saying in her cute old voice āmoveā āmove pleaseā and each one she nudges to move wags his whole body at her touch and stumbles out of the way like heās been knocked over by a truck. It gives me life paying my rent.
So, in my art history class today, my professor was talking about something that is so fuckin awesome.
These are warrior shields from the Wahgi people of Papua New Guinea. The warriors paint them with imagery meant to symbolize animals who have traits they wish to embody in battle. These depictions are intended to give the person using it the powers of what theyāre depicting.
Now. Look at this Wahgi shield:
Hmm. That looks a bit different from the others.
That looks VERY different. Why, it looks like
The Phantom⦠American comic book character by Lee Falk.Ā And thatās because it is.
The Wahgi people were isolated from the rest of the āmodernā world until 1933. They came into contact with WWII service men who shared some aspects of western culture with the tribesmen. In particular, they showed them the comic books they read while shipped out. The Wahgi loved them. In particular, the Wahgi adored the stories of the Phantom, who wasnāt even particularly popular in its home of America.
He is so popular that the few Wahgi who can read english will read the comics out loud in the village center and hold out the pages for everyone to see, so the whole tripe can enjoy them and marvel at the Phantomās might in battle.
They identify with the Phantom because he came from a jungle territory, like them, wore a mask to fight, like them, and came from a long line of warriors, which the Wahgi, who worshiped their ancestors, deeply respected. Further, despite not really having superpowers, the Phantom is strong, clever, and incredibly fast. He was so fast that his enemies began to believe that he was impervious to bullets and could not be killed.
Therefore, the Wahgi began painting HIM on their shields to invoke HIS abilities in battle. There are TONS of Phantom-Wahgi shields out there.
So, you might think that youāre huge comic book fan, but the Wahgi have taken their Phantom fandom to the next level and have made the Phantom a fucking talisman to carry into battle for strength.

The problem with forcibly seizing the assets of, say, Jeff Bezos is that his net worth of $161 billion does not mean he has that in cash. Thatās the worth of everything he owns, including stock in his own company.
And the problem with seizing THAT is that it isnāt real. Itās based on confidence and what people might conceivably pay for it. And if you just seize it, that confidence tanks. And then that wealth evaporates.
The problem with capitalism isnāt that thereās a bunch of old dudes sitting on hoards of cash. Itās that theyāve collectively created a system by which they have ludicrous social and economic power based on the PROMISE of hoards of cash. That donāt exist. They have created a social stratum in which debt is money.
Thatās why the exhortation is to SEIZE THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION, not GO GRAB ALL THE MONEY. Because the money isnāt real, and the need to go out and get it is blinding people to the fact that it doesnāt need to exist.

apparently my boss who is a professor at my school doesnāt have a cell phone and his coworkers were upset by this so they bought him a childs toy phone and labeled it āDavidās jitterbugā (for those of you that donāt know jitterbugs are phones made for old people that have like massive buttons and shit) so the other day I walked into his office to ask him a question and he pressed a button on it which made it start loudly playing the ABCs and he said āexcuse me I have to take thisā and then started singing along to the ABCs while shooing me out of his office
this is the phone. he apparently was in the middle of a meeting with the department the other day and got annoyed so he pressed a button, said āI have to take thisā and left
Davidās co-workers probably: āThis is a valid tactic to embarrass him into buying a mobile phone, right?ā
David: āBold of you to assume that I get embarrassed.ā
Tuca & Bertie is the sort of adult cartoon that feels like itās like other cartoons⦠except itās better. I can make a whole list but Iāll just note here that itās got that Bro feel minus misogyny and their Adult content isnāt raunchy.
I say that having watched BoJack Horseman. The difference is that BoJack is about mental health and cultural critique whereas Tuca & Bertie is about friendship and adulting. The former is cynical, the latter is indulgent. Both have merit. I just want more indulgence.
I will be as obnoxious as I need to be in order for more people to try this show because itās so diverse and brilliantly written. We need more adult cartoons like Tuca & Bertie.
Ali Wong? Nicole Byer? Steven Yeun? Holy shit.
Itās so good cause while it is indulgent it also tackles a lot of problems women face in a man dominated society and the different ways in which we react to them and the trauma that comes from it while still managing our day to day lives
