1. They weren’t at their usual cliff, maybe that was why Clay got hurt. It was a warm Saturday morning when Tony suggested that they went climbing. He found a new spot full of of low mountains and dirt trails with an amazing sight over a nearby river. Clay could never say no to his bright eyes and smile, so off they went.

2. Everything was going great - lighthearted teasing, small kisses stolen, and generally a happy atmosphere was surrounding the both of them. Tony showed Clay one of the mountains they could climb; it was shorter than the one at their usual cliff, but this one had less ridges for their hands and feet to balance on.

3. Tony set his equipment up and ensured Clay that yes, he already tested the mountain the week before and yes, everything would be fine. He started climbing up first and Clay followed right behind, using excess chalk due to his anxiety. Tony made sure to look back down to Clay after every couple of feet to see how he was doing and to offer him encouragement.

4. They were barely halfway up the mountain when a large gust of wind passed by them. Tony didn’t think much of it until he heard a scream of pain from below him. Some of the loose rocks along the side of the mountain must have been shaken off from the wind and fell onto Clay’s head - two large gashes were now bleeding down his face. Meanwhile, Clay was moreso stunned and in shock at the unexpected pain.

5. “Fuuuuck.” was the only thought that passed through Tony’s mind. He called down and asked Clay if he was alright, to which he was harshly answered with “no, I’m not fucking okay! I can’t even wipe the blood off unless if I want to fall!” Tony’s mind went into hyperactive mode, thinking of what to do to help Clay as fast as possible. He asked if him if he could hold on as he went to the top and Clay shakily nodded, the movement making his headache worse. Tony doesn’t think he climbed faster in his entire life.

6. Once he made it to the top, he harnessed himself to the biggest boulder and threw his rope over the edge. Tony instructed for Clay to tightly hold on as he pulled him up, and after some minor slips that scared the both of them to death, they made it. Tony moved to inspect Clay’s wounds and produced a first aid kit from his backpack, apologizing about 10 times during the length it took to bandage Clay’s face. (“it’s fine Tony, you can’t control the weather. it does mean I won’t be climbing again for awhile.”)

Tony loves to be the strong one, the rock, but he must get tired sometimes of always trying to shoulder the burden and it must take a toll on him. Can I get a hc of Clay taking care of Tony when he finally breaks down after something bad happens in his life and he really has to let him know it's okay for Tony to not always feel the need to be the strong one, that hey, Clay loves him and it's all okay. I feel like Tony would almost feel bad about it, not wanting to burden Clay with his problems

1. Tony hated feeling ‘weak.’ His emotions were usually all the same - cool, calm, and collected. He knew how to handle himself and would much rather spend his time helping others, mainly Clay. But after a horrific family emergency, he felt that resolve start to fade. Tony wanted to be strong and yet all he could feel was the need to cry or punch the closest wall out of frustration.

2. Clay started to notice how different Tony’s actions were becoming. His smile didn’t quite reach his eyes, his laugh sounded forced, and he genuinely looked exhausted. As Tony was driving Clay home one day, he asked if he was feeling alright. And judging by the answer, “yeah, just stressed.” Clay knew it was a lot more but didn’t push the subject for Tony’s sake.

3. It wasn’t until a few nights later where things took a turn. Clay was sleeping when he heard his phone ring, and after glancing at the clock to see it read 1am, he wondered who would be calling him this late. Once he saw Tony’s name, he picked up quickly and asked if everything was okay. As soon as he heard Tony's labored breathing and the request to see him, Clay was pulling on his pants and jacket in an instant.

4. Clay carefully snuck out the house and saw Tony’s mustang turn down his road. He barely had time to shut the door behind him before Tony was speeding off and away from the city. His tear-stained cheeks and red eyes made Clay’s heart break; he wanted to hold him close and never let go. They drove together in silence until Tony pulled aside on an abandoned road.

5. Clay reached for Tony’s hand and intertwined their fingers, asking if he wanted to talk about it. As stubborn as ever, Tony shook his head and explained he just wanted (needed) to see Clay and even if he did, he didn’t want to burden him. Clay only squeezed his hand and made him look at him, using his free hand to wipe his cheeks gently. (“hey, it’s okay. I love you. your problems are my problems, Tony. you always helped me, so now it’s my turn to help you.”)

6. After hearing those words and seeing the pleasing look in Clay’s eyes, Tony breaks down. He talks about the tragedy his family has been going through, how he wants to be strong but can’t, and how all of this is making him feel so alone. And after his speech is over and he’s crying all over again, Clay shifts towards him. The angle is awkward since they’re in the car, but he doesn’t care as he hugs Tony tightly. He kisses his temple and softly rubs his back, promising to stay by his side no matter what.

He doesn’t know how much more he could take with his mind kept screaming at him, “it’s your fault! you killed Hannah, you killed Jeff, you’re the one to blame!” Clay keeps thinking about that night on the cliff - if Tony wasn’t there, would he have stepped back from the edge? He’s not 100% sure anymore.

2. Tony notices the downward spiral happening to Clay. He’s walking into school every morning with dark bags under his eyes, looking even paler and skinner. He avoids eye contact with people and barely talks, only doing so if it’s necessary. He tries to text Clay, but is often left with no response at all or one-word answers.

3. Once Tony sees Clay walk into class with another coffee for the fourth day in a row, he’s had enough. He needs to help Clay now, he needs him to see how much he’s valued and loved by so many people. Tony sets a plan into action - it’s going to be a slow process, but he’s determined to help his best friend get better.

4. Tony manages to catch up with Clay at the end of the day and offers to give him a ride home, considering a thunderstorm was on its way. He barely nods, mumbling out a short “sure.” before grabbing his bike to put in his trunk. On the ride back, Tony starts off with a simple question: “Clay, I’m worried about you. are you alright, like… really okay?” and the hesitation from Clay doesn’t ease his thoughts.

5. Clay shrugs again and looks out the window, seeing the sky darken before answering. He explains that he doesn’t know how he’s feeling, he’s in an all-constant state of numbness. He just feels blank - he accidentally slips out how the world wouldn’t notice if he disappeared. Tony wants nothing more than to stop the car and shake some sense into Clay, how could he think something like that? Tony doesn’t even want to think about Clay ‘disappearing.’

6. Instead, Tony carefully sets his hand atop of Clay’s own and speaks calmly. “Clay, I would definitely notice if something as drastic as that happened. Hell, I can see you struggling right now. I want to help, please let me help.” Clay looks down at the both of their hands and for what feels like first time in years, senses the warmth from someone else, someone who seems like they genuinely care about him. He decides to let Tony into his life and try again.

Could you do headcanons for sick/hurt Clay and Tony taking care of him?

1. Tony and Clay had plans to go to the movies together that Saturday - a new action film just came out and they were both excited to see it. As Tony called Clay to let him know he was on his way to pick him up, the sound of Clay coughing and his hoarse voice alarmed him.

2. Clay got sick pretty easily - this was the third time he got the flu. He tried to reassure Tony that yes, he was fine and no, he did not need to be taken care of. Clay only rolled his eyes once he heard Tony explain that he would be there as soon as possible with remedies and his love.

3. Tony went to the closest store and bought a number of things: cough medicine, chicken noodle soup, and even his favorite chocolate. Once he got to Clay’s house, his parents let him in. Tony told them that he would make sure he got better, knowing Clay was probably too tired and too stubborn to do it on his own.

4. He prepared the bowl of soup before going upstairs to Clay’s bedroom, knocking as he heard coughing and a short, “come in.” Tony walked in and observed the room - the window was wide open and Clay was lounging back on his bed with a tank top and shorts, his sickness obviously making him feel overheated.

5. Tony closed the door and sat on the edge of Clay’s bed, handing him the soup. Clay insisted that he was seriously fine and Tony practically demanded that he ate the soup, making the statement that he would be the one taking care of him until he was better. Clay grudgingly took the bowl. ("when did you turn into my nurse?")

6. Alright, so yeah maybe Tony was being a bit protective over Clay being sick. He didn’t like the sound of him coughing and the sight of tissues thrown across his bedroom floor. Tony preferred the Clay that made jokes and rambled on about the latest Star Wars news. But he still took great pride in seeing Clay smile once he gave him his favorite chocolate as a surprise.

6. After they packed up their leftovers, it was dark and the night chill was ciricling around them. Tony insisted that Clay take his jacket, considering he was wearing a long-sleeve underneath. It was obviously too big for Clay’s slim body, but Tony chuckled and thought it made him look adorable. And as they kissed underneath the city skyline, the both of them wouldn’t trade this memory for anything.

He went straight to his room, thankful that his parents were on vacation so they couldn’t harass him with questions.

4. For the next week, Clay avoided Tony at all costs. He ignored his calls and texts and made sure he was never alone in the hallways - going to the length of staying around Courtney or Sherri. 6. Clay wanted nothing more than to push him aside and just go home. But once he noticed how sullen and desperate Tony looked, he reluctantly agreed. They sat in the mustang and Tony apologized. He said that he never meant the words and how this past week without him has been hell. Tony explained that seeing Clay look so broken hurt him in ways he couldn’t even describe, and after a long and emotional heart-to-heart, they made up and promised to never let their relationship get that bad again.

1. Tony never experienced the feeling of true terror pass through his body. He had a cool demeanor and always thought rationally. All it took was one phone call to change his entire life - Clay’s mother crying as she explained that he was in the hospital after a biking accident.

2. Tony broke all traffic laws on his way to the hospital, feeing his heart beat so fast that he thought it would burst out of his chest. His hands felt sweaty as he gripped the steering wheel, feeling like he was driving too slow. All Tony could think about was Clay - he needed him to be alright, not knowing the severity of what happened yet.

3. After parking his mustang, Tony all but ran towards the emergency room unit and caught up with Clay’s parents. Seeing them look so worried only caused Tony to feel worse, his stomach tightening as he heard the story. The back wheel of Clay’s bike was clipped as a car next to him tried to switch lanes, causing him to crash.

4. Once the doctor called for his family, Tony sped over and listened to the list of injuries. He got a broken ankle, a sprained wrist, and he would suffer a slight concussion. He also got a number of bruises and cuts across his body. Tony was antsy until the moment the doctor gave the clear for visitors to visit Clay’s room.

5. Clay was already awake when Tony and his parents enter the room, his eyes instantly locking onto Tony’s own and noticing just how glassy they were. He moved to speak but ended up coughing instead, groaning in pain since it jostled his body. Tony was by his side quickly, frantically asking how he could help.

6. As he heard Tony’s voice and the tone of fear behind it, Clay reached out and intertwined their fingers.
