i've been bilingual virtually my entire life but i've always wanted to learn an asian language at some point because i love the culture of a language and another country. japanese ended up being the choice of language and i'm very, very, very slowly but surely learning japanese around my doctorate.

cut to me studying up on japanese culture and subsequently learning about omamori - little charms that have different purposes (at least so far as i know). i absolutely love little charms and love the designs of these!!! i'm not religious (though i love studying religions and their impact) but i'm a firm believer that you can go only so far as you believe and imagine so if i believe this little charm will bring me good luck, i will have good luck.

can anyone else tell i minored in psych for my bachelors?? lol

anyway, i got this little red omamori to bring me success in my oral arguments today and kept it on me. i won't say it worked, per se, that's on me, but having it on me today made me feel a little less shaky on my feet.

moral of the story? you can only go so far as you believe and imagine so don't keep yourself back by thinking you can't do something or you'll suck at it. radiate confidence even if you're not confidant. imagine the future you want and you'll get there one day.

i think we need to remember that learning isn't always 'aesthetic'. learning is sometimes so hard that you want to quit (and sometimes you do); learning can leave you drained of all of your energy; learning has it's highs, but it's lows as well, and not understanding something straight away can make you feel like a failure; learning is notes that you can understand, regardless of whether or not anyone else can; learning is for yourself, and yourself only.

sometimes it's the aesthetic that gets me through those tough patches where the law is just too complicated and sometimes the aesthetic is my doom

god my absolute favorite feeling is devouring a book, when you get so into the pages and the words that you have to stop your eyes from skipping lines and force yourself to read every word, when you’re so impatient for what happens next that you can’t sit still while reading, when you have to re read whole pages because you were too busy predicting and anticipating that you missed the actual events, when you read a part that’s too good for words and you have to close the book and scream into your pillow, that’s what reading a truly great book is about and the feeling is even better when you haven’t found a book like that in a long time and then you stumble across one and something inside of you awakens

with a midterm coming up for my bar prep course, decided to make outlining a little more entertaining. also heard that taking your time to be creative helps you retain the information better so....fingers crossed!!

two of three years into my law school career and i am running purely on spite and caffeine, blacked out for the entirety of my first year of fundamental basics, and have finally decided to get my life together with the help of the ever-lovely studyblr. let’s see how long this lasts
