I just.... Some things. Alice.
Does the show think that by making Alice an FBI agent, she’s redeemed?
I don’t care if her goal was to get closer to Charles, the son she longed for and found, or to save Polly, her other daughter, both of those things came at the expense of her child, BETTY. Betty, forever the afterthought.
-She stole Betty’s Blossom money/and complete autonomy to go to college with no worries. Something Betty had spent her whole life working for.
-She sent Betty away to an asylum and got her tortured and drugged. Got her dragged out of her home, got her locked up with people who meant her harm, got her tortured, got her held against a wall and got drugs jammed down her throat.
-She left her child, you know Betty, who had just been dealt a blow in the form of her father being a serial killer, she abandoned that child and left her to face everything ~alone/without a guardian or parent. A child who she knew was having coping problems, a seizure, and was abusing her medication to cope.
-She told Betty that she had a serial killer gene. She let people tell Betty that she was dark and just like Hal, one of the truest insecurities and worries Betty has had, a throughline in her character narrative. Jug has had to console her about this, she fought with Hal about it, she asked Toni, she grappled with herself in character arcs over it since season one. Was she dark? Was she evil? Was she bad? And Alice reinforced that belief? And let others at The Farm, notably Edgar and Polly do it, too, in what was complete torture.
-She told Betty to join The Farm, repeatedly, where she knew they were harvesting organs, torturing people, and brainwashing them, instead of saying something like, “FP and Jug will take care of you, stay close to them,” because let’s be real, FP and Jug would have taken care of her and been there for her, and tried to be, best this show can execute, which is not good. Jug all but begged Betty to live with them and FP always clearly co-signed that, as it is, it seems she was living with them at the end of episode.
-She put Betty in so much danger that Betty got forcibly gassed, shackled to an operating table, and only escaped getting butchered because crazy Penelope showed up and bought her.
-She told Betty that being able to talk to Charles was more important than her.
-She told Betty essentially that she couldn’t be trusted, that others were more like family to her than Betty was, she called Betty names, she...
-She found out Betty had been attacked by the Black Hood and the Gargoyle King in the same night and thought... JOIN THE HARVESTING FARM.
-She sent Betty places/advocated on Betty being places where people’s sole goal was to play mind games with Betty, play on her fears, brainwash her, hypnotize her, medicate her, and mess up her head space and break her so they could control her.
Just getting warmed up on Alice’s atrocities this season in the name of being an “informant.” I hope the show doesn’t think this fixes things. They can give Betty her money back, and whatever else, it still does not fix the emotional, physical, mental abuse and torture Betty had to live through that Alice co-signed, put in motion, or schemed up herself. Nah. I know it’s a start, and at least there is some justification, but at this cost? I need them to avoid putting a band-aid on this because... that’s just... a lot. Way too much to just overlook.
