INFP: I need advice… INTP: Eat a stick. INFP: I don’t think that’s good for braces… INTP: I like that that’s your reasoning, not “why the fuck would I eat a stick.”
I love writing because it gives me power. I’m in control of everything, and still unexpected things happen and the characters surprise me, because it’s creative power. It’s wonderful!
INFP thoughts (via infpcafe)
This is a scary thing. What's scarier is that in the near further it may not be so.

Them: You need to stop obsessing over personality types so much.
Me (an INFP 9w1 297 Taurus Hufflepuff phleg-san neutral-good sp/sx born in the year of the ram):
Just INFP Things
- Doing stupid or clumsy things because you forgot to pay attention to the real world again; walked into doors, burned your food, maybe jumped a red light…
-When someone is Having Feelings in your vicinity, you are having those feelings right along with them, even if you don’t know who they are or why they’re upset
- ART VS. SCIENCE
- Really wanting to have your life all organised and together but also being the sort of person who just doesn’t do that
- When you look at a thing and it reminds you of another thing but nobody else sees it and then you become ‘the weird one’.
- Dropping everything you’re doing to google something you got curious about, or draw an image that just occurred to you, or in any way indulging a sudden burst of imagination before it slips away and your boring life returns
- Having to say ‘I DON’T KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN IT IT’S JUST THIS FEELING’ on a daily basis to a bunch of blank faces
- Nobody seems to appreciate the value of a long walk by yourself
- The sensible, logical voice in your head is constantly facepalming at all the stupid stuff you do, even though it told you this was a bad idea
- Your best solution to most potential problems is ‘I’ll just take to the woods and live alone with the trees where nobody will care what I do’
- ‘What are you staring at?’ ‘What are you smiling about?’ ‘Why the sudden gasp?’
- When you’re focused on something important then you start thinking all these other thoughts about the thing and then it snowballs and you realise you have no idea what you started off focused on anymore
- The inside of your head is basically Jean Valjean’s ‘Who Am I?’ playing on a loop
- OVERTHINKINGGGG
Please add your INFP things below
INFJ vs. INFP
INFP: Fi Ne Si Te
INFJ: Ni Fe Ti Se
-INFJs extrovert their feeling function (Fe), which means they spend much less time wallowing in or experiencing their emotions than INFPs do. INFPs will spend an enormous amount of time analyzing their own feelings and experiences.
-INFJs are quite adept at reading the emotions of others, but are not very good at discerning their own emotions - self-awareness is something that they have to work quite hard to achieve.
-INFPs are generally more creative and artistic in their writing; INFJs tend to be more analytical. (This is a personal observation more than anything, but I’ve noticed too that INFPs are much more likely to write about creative fantasy, with books such as The Neverending Story or The Last Unicorn - they tell stories from the depth of their imagination, and the characters are there simply to move the story along, to act as a go-between for their symbolic abstractions. However, when INFJs write, the characters ARE the story - their personal journey of the individual, such as in Memoirs of a Geisha or White Oleander, are the focal point of the book. In the writing of an INFP, the characters are just the medium through which the story is translated to the reader, but it’s much more about the experience than it is about the individual.)
-INFPs are highly individualistic, while INFJs are social chameleons. I have heard many INFJs express that they don’t feel like they have an identity unless they belong to a social group of some kind. (This can also lead INFJs to end up dating people who are ultimately unsuitable for them, or joining social groups that ultimately do line line up with their personal values - they get attached to people very quickly.)
-INFPs tend to be quite nostalgic and often struggle with letting go of people and events that were important to them in the past - they may, for example, have difficulty in getting rid of an old t-shirt that represented an important time in their life, or save old text messages from people who meant a lot to them. INFJs do not struggle with such nostalgia - they are much more future-oriented than INFPs are.
-Although INFPs and INFJs both value harmony in their relationships, INFPs are opposed to sacrificing their individuality for the sake of their close relationships, whereas INFJs are more likely to feel that a certain amount of individuality should be sacrificed in order to maintain harmony. (They also believe this to be true on a global scale.) To INFPs, the idea of losing themselves to the homogeneity of a mob is terrifying.
-An INFP, upon cutting somebody out of their life who was harmful, may struggle with re-establishing a connection with a toxic individual over and over again, because they idealize the individual and have trouble forgetting about the good times. I have noticed that INFPs have a tendency to put people in a pedestal, especially once that person is relegated to their memory. Once an INFJ finally decides to cut somebody out - although it may take a while - it’s for good.
-INFJs and INFPs will act differently when under stress. The INFJ’s inferior function is Extroverted Sensing (Se). Se acts impulsively and focuses on the present moment that takes place in the physical environment. So, stressed INFJs may make decisions without thinking through the long-term ramifications—which is unusual for INFJs, who typically are cautious decision-makers and thoroughly consider the consequences of their actions. INFJs may also overindulge in physical pleasures like eating, drinking alcohol, or shopping. INFPs, on the other hand, exhibit ruthless Extroverted Thinking (Te) when under stress. Te is concerned with organizing, systematizing, applying logic, and creating order and structure. Under stress, INFPs may no longer appear to be their usual compassionate and open-minded selves. Instead they may become cold, critical, and judgmental of themselves and/or other people. For example, they may criticize someone for not doing something in a particular way, picking at their errors and flaws.
-INFJs focus on one major insight, while INFPs will bounce around from idea to idea, or experience to experience (particularly on the basis of how that experience relates to them personally).
-INFJs use Fe to tune in to other people’s feelings; and because they are so focused on the feelings of other people, they often have difficulty identifying their own (until those feelings become so strong that they can’t ignore them). INFPs, like INFJs, are highly empathetic - however, they do it in a different way than INFJs. INFPs will tune in to the emotions of others by putting themselves in that person’s shoes, reflecting on how they themselves would feel if such a thing happened to them.
-INFJs desire to be understood. INFPs desire to be validated. INFJs tend to feel marginalized because they understand others so well, but are rarely met with that same understanding themselves. INFPs, on the other hand, may not want to be fully understood, since that may entail losing some of their individuality. Rather than being understood, INFPs would prefer to be validated that their thoughts and intentions are good.
Nothing is wrong with being shy. Nothing is wrong with being quiet. Nothing is wrong with not sharing your whole self with the entire world.

what are some distinct INFP traits??
Intense, deep, mysterious emotions; a tendency to control emotional outbursts.
Intense discomfort with issuing blanket judgments and opinions on generalized topics; attempts to elicit such responses will be met with repulsion and side-stepping, or questions that require more specific examples. Fi is searching for “deep” emotional truth, not off-the-cuff moral judgments.
A bottomless desire for emotional authenticity and depth, which turns into sneering condemnation for anything “fake” or “false” (SFPs also do this).
Instinctive ability to sense when others are being inauthentic or fake.
Occasional, often unintentional bluntness or social inappropriateness.
NOVELTY appeals to them, and they continually pursue it – sometimes discarding unfinished projects along the way. May have dozens of things going on all at the same time, which they go back and forth between easily, but once interest is lost in finishing something, it is permanently shelved. If forced to go back to it, Ne engages and a complete overhaul happens (intent on making the topic interesting to them again).
May hold conflicting opinions or interests (less so than the ENFP); prone to changing their mind or changing positions frequently on anything that is not an ethical or moral issue fixed in their mind.
Like the other NPs, their worldview is from cherry picking what they like from a vast orchard of ideas, philosophies, belief systems, psychological ideas, and so on, which makes them unique and un-inclined to see the world as others do.
Uncomfortable with ruling out options; the ability to think in multiple directions at once (I’d like to start this project right now, and here’s all the fun things that can happen as a result… but here’s also all the not-fun things involved…). Their world continually expands rather than shrinks.
Enjoys engaging in abstract conversations (an abstract conversation, for example, would be “truth” or “love” or “divinity” or “beauty”).
Tendency to go down rabbit trails in conversation, or wind up discussing something other than they intended when they started.
Many display a serious outward demeanor, but can be playful with Ne (the seriousness is engaged when discussing “important” topics to them, relating to Fi-interests, deeply held opinions, emotional expression, etc., or at times in relaying impersonal factual Te information).
Difficulty in expressing feelings clearly without resorting to abstraction, metaphors, or symbols. May prefer to paint, draw, or write to express feelings. May be unclear or unspecific in their statements or judgments (though it seems clear to them, others may feel it is vague or be unsure what they are driving at).
Tendency to strongly identify with certain things, which then become “personal,” and whose cause they may champion (sharing a physical weakness with a historical figure, for example, may incline them toward favoritism because they can TRULY “understand” the emotional and physical repercussions of having that ailment or physical handicap).
Sound logic (though ruled by Individual Ethics) but struggles with other Te-related things (schedules, word limits, prioritizing detached decisions, etc).
I’m so solemn and agitated about the things I love the most that I prefer not to talk about them at all. Even though I would like to.
INFP thoughts (via infpcafe)
I’ve always loved dark minds and deep thinkers and things not meant for me
i-always-miss-you (via wnq-anonymous)
As an INFP my natural train of thought is more like a lot of squiggly lines flowing outwards from a center point, some looping back in but most just reaching out and branching off into curves and whorls. Like dye dripped into water but more squiggly and branching off. Instead of a straight line or a grid or a tree or something. I enjoy it but it does make it hard to retrace all those things and keep the patterns straight. I can think in a non-abstract way, but I have to deliberately decide to.
This is pretty, that makes sense. Thanks!
INFP Confession #1399
I wonder if I will be lonely forever. Even when I am nice and remember to smile and be cheerful, I always feel lonely. I don’t belong to a clique or have a boyfriend and sometimes I daydream how that would feel to belong to a whole bunch of people or another person that feels the way I do. But here I am in high school alone wondering if college will be the same way. I just want do fun things with someone besides myself.
An poem by an INFP
INCURABLE
What is real, what is unreal?
Let my paranoia lead the way
I can quite hear something
But it seems so far away
That I doubt my sanity
Who loves me, who loves me not?
I’m not quite sure
But it doesn’t matter
‘Coz malicious glint blinds me
Debilitated by fear
Of unknown fears
Where am I? Where will I be?
Sanatorium, sanatorium
Sure that it will get worse and worse
I will be caged
By my own hallucinations
Who will set me free?
Whom do I long for? Whom do I not?
My callous angel
So far away
Yet near at heart
Still entranced
By imagined goodness
What is love? What is not?
Mirrored by ugliness
Aren’t we the same
At our inner core?
Tied by breakable bond
Why should I care?
What is poison? What is not?
Just let it flow
Through my blood stream
My wavering eyes
Caused by delusions
My destiny is sealed.
What is illusion? What is not?
Should I chase after?
Is life worth it?
The key to everything
Buried deep inside
Will I ever find it?
What is blue? What is green?
Infinite peacefulness
Mingled with sadness
Contrast with ever-expanding life
In which I find hope
For my new horizon…
For all the HP fans out there :)
