What is Maps and New Moons?

Map: When you don’t know how to get where you’re going a map tends to come in handy. This is true both when you are traversing in physical reality as well as the recesses of your mind. Luckily for us we have Google which has mapped a lot of the physical world for us and in the same way we have people, like the Buddha, Jesus, and Patañjali for example, who have created some useful maps for our inner worlds. But a map is not the territory. The territory holds unique treasures along the way that a map could never show to you because the territory is always changing. In the same way as the territory, you are always changing and while a map might help you navigate it won’t be able to tell you exactly what to expect. Maps are great but we have to use our own powers of discernment to decide if the path we are on is the best for where we are. Sometimes we even create our own maps.

New Moon: During the new moon it’s totally dark out at night, there is no luminescent being there to guide the way. Astrologically speaking, though, new moons are magical times when we take time to retreat from the world, look inward to hear what our souls are saying, and begin to plan for the next month ahead.

So the idea of maps and new moons is that even when it’s darkest out, especially when it’s darkest out, we can look within and begin to create the map that will guide us home.

Because as Ram Dass has said, “We’re all just walking each other home.”
