It’s so fucked up that experiences from previous relationships can forever impact your ability to form and maintain new relationships. They should patch that out
Summary: Deciding to use the free time you have in your last semester of college, you pick up a job at your local mall, Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex. You've been needing to save up money, so a part-time janitor job couldn't hurt too bad, right? Little do you know what lies beneath the surface of the mall's flashy exterior...but then again, you're just paid to clean up puke and cry in the supplies closet on your lunch break. Unfortunately for you, getting pulled into this twisted web of lies may be out of your control, especially when someone you've grown close to may be involved.
The body dragged itself across a tiled floor. The clean white and black squares were tarnished by the red liquid soaking it, but it wouldn’t be the first time, nor would it probably be the last. Hands slapped onto flat ground, fingers curling to grasp around nothing. The tiles were cold, just like the weather outside, just like the tired body was beginning to feel. They could only think of one thing. Getting out. They needed to get out. Now.
It was a pitiful effort really. The creature was still in the room with them. They could feel its eyes watching them as they whimpered in pain and pushed their body forwards using whatever energy they had left. They could feel the chill around them, especially from the area they knew the creature was standing in. They didn’t dare turn around, instead they stayed on their stomach, pulling with their hands and pushing with their feet, but their thoughts began to plague them. Why wasn’t it grabbing them? Why wasn’t it finishing what it started? Why was it letting them go?
Against their better judgement, they turned around to gaze behind. The wind was knocked out of them when they realized no one was there. But that wasn’t possible, was it? That monster was just there! It wouldn’t have just walked away to leave their prey alive. Relief did come, though. Maybe it did get bored and chose to go somewhere else. What if something more important had come up and it needed attention? No time to waste thinking about it.
They turned back around and their relief was cut short when they came to face a pair of legs. They didn’t even need to look up to know who had arrived.
—-----
Key's gingled, obnoxious to any impatient individual who was ready to relax. As the front door closed firmly, a pair of feet dragged themselves into a living room and down a short hall leading all the way to a bedroom nestled at the end. A lazy hand reached up and turned an "I'm gone, loser" sign around, revealing it's "I'm back, baby" side. The hand falls down lightly, just enough to open the bedroom door before the tired body shuffled inside. The body barely even remembered to close the door behind it. Its hazy mind hoped that a certain cat wouldn't scream outside of the door, angered by being locked out.
At that moment, however, (Y/N) couldn't seem to care about their spoiled cat's hollering. All they could think about is how warm and soft their bed would feel. Today was the last day of finals and they had to wake up "bright" and early to study for the exam they procrastinated on for way too long. They had to stay after because their anxiety over failing made them pace the building's halls until they got the notification that the grade had been put in.
(Y/N) thought back to it as they shrugged their backpack off and made their way towards the comfortable bed that was like a siren to them. A 76 was the grade they received. A "C". ''C's get degrees' as they say," (Y/N) thought pleasingly. It didn't bother them much. After all, they already had an A in the class, a C on the final wouldn't dip their grade down to an F nor would it affect it so badly that they would lose their scholarship.
(Y/N) flopped onto their bed, so tired they missed the pillow and face planted onto a stuffed animal instead. The animal's plastic eye hurt slightly against their jaw so they rolled over, managing to actually hit the pillow this time. As they stared up at the ceiling, a mix of anxiety and relief raged over them. They pulled their phone out of their pocket and checked their schedule for next semester.
Their last semester.
They should've felt only excitement at such an important life achievement, but something ate away at their joy. They only had three classes next semester and that meant a lot of free time. Free time they were not used to. Free time they didn't know what to fill with. Sure, they could use this to keep doing their hobbies and get some well deserved relaxation in, but it just felt like too much. They were planning on taking a mental break during the winter period between semesters but going the entire spring without doing much made them feel bad. They knew their mother wouldn't make them pay a dime to stay there, nor would she be overly critical of (Y/N) just laying around, but that just made them feel all the more worse.
A sigh left their lips as they turned their phone off and flopped their arm next to them. It had gotten into late afternoon at that point and the sun was going down creating a beautiful hue in the sky. This calming atmosphere, along with getting up before the crack of dawn, lead to their eyes quickly becoming heavier and heavier. Soon, they were lulled into a dream world, not even noticing their phone falling off the bed and hitting the floor.
—
When (Y/N) opened their eyes again, they didn't know what time or day it was. For a split second, they thought it was the next morning. They rubbed the sleep from their eyes and gazed back up the ceiling, taking in the view of the glow stars sitting still above them. They liked outer space. Sitting and gazing at the glowing stars gave them a sense of serenity and peace at nighttime. After a few seconds of this, they had finally gotten their surroundings down, although they still didn't know what time it was. Their hands moved to pat around them to find their phone but only felt the plush covers. After looking under the sheets, they sat up a bit and moved over to the edge of the bed to try to see the old carpet. They were greeted by darkness and gave a huff. Reaching down, they felt along the floor and finally, finally found the cellphone. Too much pressure was put on the power button and (Y/N) winced at the bright light.
'6:47 pm' read the homescreen. They decided to lean back on the bed and scroll a bit to ease their mind back for the time-being. Soon enough, the door creaked open. (Y/N)'s mother, Sabrina, peaked in and looked them up and down. "Did you go to bed already?"
"Nope, just had a nap. I wasn't out for long though," (Y/N) lied. Just a white one wouldn't hurt.
Sabrina didn't fully believe them. She knew her child and how long they could 'nap' for. "Hm, alrighty. Come on in here and eat now. I went out and got your favorite to help fuel your brain back up. I wanna hear all about your exam!"
"I'll be there in a little bit, Mama," They didn't feel like getting up right at that moment, but the promise of their favorite food was tempting. Sabrina told them not to take too long and closed the door slightly to leave it just a crack open. (Y/N) could hear her footsteps heading into the dining room. They didn’t have to worry about their cat busting in as he would be too caught up in getting dinner.
That stomach pit was back. Sabrina was a hard-working, single mother. She had done so much for (Y/N) to have a good life where they could do whatever they dreamed. Dreams can cost money, however. Dollars weren't always falling off trees in this household; quite the opposite. Sabrina always made it work, somehow. All for her baby. She made sure (Y/N) could focus on school, allowing them to not have a job yet in favor of their studies. Now (Y/N) felt the need to return the countless favors and get a job, at least for a few months.
'Okay, enough contemplating..I can smell the food from in here," Finally they pulled their (F/C) covers off of them and sat up. A thump emitted from the darkness and they turned their phone flashlight on to see what had fallen.
A Freddy Fazbear plushie.
They reached down to pick him up, concluding the little bear must've gotten tangled in the sheets and thrown over. It was a dark brown, much darker than the practically orange modern one, with a top hat, bowtie, and big ole blue eyes. Retro to today. They glanced over and turned their flashlight onto their bed to make sure Ella was still sitting in her corner and hadn't gotten tangled herself. Ella had brown hair with a blue dress and hat, designed to look like a young girl. Her falling would've been worse considering her porcelain skin and glass alarm clock. But she was sitting all comfy and cozy in her spot with not a care in the world. She had once belonged to Sabrina when she herself was just a little girl. (Y/N)'s grandfather worked and saved up to get it for her, they remembered. It was a story she spoke fondly of.
(Y/N) looked back to the brown bear in their hand, thinking of all the similarities and differences of the new Freddy versus the old…for better or for worse. That's when an idea popped into their head.
"Bean! Come eat!" called Sabrina from the dining room causing (Y/N) to snap out of their daze. 'Bean' was the nickname Sabrina always used for (Y/N) ever since they were a baby. "You were as small as a bean!" their mother had said.
'Oh yeah, dinner,' They tossed the Freddy plush to the side and made their way to the room their mom was in, setting out plates for them on a round dining table. It was small but they didn't need a big one for just the two of them. They could hear their cat munching crazily at this kibble. She must’ve gone ahead and fed him so he wouldn’t be bothering anyone for their dinner. Their mother sat a plate filled with food onto the table. (Y/N) couldn't help but think it was overflowing for just one person but they sat down in front of it none-the-less. Sabrina sat down opposite of them, looking tired but content.
"So how'd that final exam go, Beanie?"
(Y/N) shrugged. After swallowing their first biteful of food, they spoke, "It was okay. Hard but I got through it. I made a C!"
Sabrina grinned. "See, I told you could do it! Just the other night you were crying and saying you were gonna fail and all this and that." (Y/N) only gave a sheepish smile in return. They did have a habit of being a wee bit...dramatic.
A few minutes of conversation passed before they remembered the Freddy plush and decided to bring up the topic, "Hey Mama, I was thinking and since I don't have that many classes next semester I was gonna look into seeing if the Pizzaplex has any part time jobs open."
They didn't expect their mom to look disturbed by that. Confusion started to fill them as Sabrina replied nervously, "Oh...are you sure you want to get a job...there?" Her eyes stared directly into theirs.
"I mean, I think it'd be a good first job. I heard the pay isn't the best but it doesn't need to be for me," Sabrina's eyes darted to her almost empty plate. "Is there something wrong?"
"(Y/N), it's just-...just I remember that place not being the safest, even when I was growing up," they understood more now.
They push their plate away a bit to make room for their arms to rest crossed on the table. "Are you talking about the Fazbear Disappearances? Those were in the 80s, Mama. Besides, that never stopped Pops from taking you there. Heck, barely anyone around here even remembers it happened, it's more just like a local rumor. I only know details about it because of your true crime stuff," they jokingly added in that last bit to ease any tension.
"It's not just those children that went missing, apparently employees did too! I remember hearing whispers about it and even if not many recall it, that doesn’t change anything. It still happened," Sabrina had her stern voice on.
"Still, it's not the 80s anymore."
"I still hear rumors about stuff happening to the workers, I don't want you getting mixed up in all that, (Y/N)," Okay, they may have to keep convincing.
"How about this? I'll go down to the Pizzaplex tomorrow morning and look at the job openings. If any aren't available for me, I'll take it as a sign that it wasn't meant to be," Sabrina went to say something again but (Y/N) thought quickly, "AND I'll make sure it's during the day where lots of people are around." Sabrina stopped herself and thought for a long moment before sighing and tacking a gulp of her water.
"Okay, fine, but if anything looks fishy or feels weird please just back out and leave," she made them promise. "I'll clean up these plates. Maybe you can set up a movie for us to watch together. Did you get enough food?"
They nodded, an excited smile spreading across their face.
-----
(Y/N) stood in the main entrance of the Pizzaplex the next day feeling slightly uncomfortable with the rush of people going around them. They had thought coming on a Friday morning might mean less of a crowd with the kids and teens being in school but there still was a loud bustle of people roaming around, talking loudly, and looking around for where they needed to head. (Y/N) wasn't different in that last regard. They glanced around, trying to see if they could find any workers to talk to.
The previous night, after their mother had gone to bed and they had migrated back to their room, (Y/N) went online to get a head start at looking at job listings for the mall and was shocked to find just how many positions were open. They knew Fazbear Entertainment always seemed to be looking for more hands on deck but they never expected this much. They had found one that interested them. A janitor gig. Didn't look to be too tough and would probably make for an easy first job. All they'd have to do was clean up after everybody. It didn't say anything about pay online, but they had noticed the job description was short. They figured they'd just have to go in the next day to ask a higher up about it.
So, that's how they ended up standing to the side of the huge room in their 'business casual' clothes. After a few seconds, they spotted a guy with a nametag on who seemed to give instructions to a couple of guests of the mall. After the two had walked away, (Y/N) took this chance to come up to the employee themselves.
"Hello, do you work here?" (Y/N) glanced at the person's name tag, reading "Robin". Now that they were up close to him, they could make out his appearance better. He had short, black hair with a slight mess to it. He seemed to be wearing a Fazbear’s uniform but they couldn’t make out what type it was due to the frankly plain design. He was on the tanner side and was scrawny looking.
"Yes, I do. How may I help you? Is there a specific place you're heading?' The worker, Robin, seemed nice enough.
"Oh, no thank you. I'm actually here about a job listing I saw online?" Robin stood up straight and grinned bigger. He was a bit taller than them, (Y/N) noted, but not by much.
"Absolutely! Here, the hiring manager should be in his office around this time. I can walk you over there right now. I needed a break anyway. Ooo, I'm Robin by the way," He waved his hand, ushering them to follow him, and began leading (Y/N) to the side door off the main entrance room. He looked down at his chest and his happy expression turned strained, "Oh wait, maybe you already figured that out..." ‘I wasn’t gonna say anything,’ he was already frazzled enough from having to work such a busy shift. The slip-up couldn’t possibly bother them.
The door opened to a wide hallway that had employees walking all along it. "Nah, it's okay. Having lots of people all over the place can mess with your brain," (Y/N) shrugged and smiled, earning a grateful grin from Robin back. "I'm (Y/N)."
"It's nice to meet you, (Y/N). And, yeah, I've been working here for a couple weeks now myself and I'm still not used to...well...everything. This place can be pretty fast paced and hectic and well…anxiety inducing, especially with all the stuff that goes on around here lately but, don't worry," Robin looked ahead to where they were walking, still beaming, "I'm sure you'll make a great fit to the team! Mr. Pumpernickel's office is just up ahead."
(Y/N) stepped over a fallen box and dodged a worker that came jogging past. "What's been going on la- wait, Pumpernickel??" Nothing could hide their bafflement at that name.
A look of awareness crossed over his face as he quickly looked back at them. "Wait, shoot, that's definitely not his name, is it?" He stopped in front of a door that had a plaque above it that read 'Manager's Office', but instead of letting them in, Robin put a hand up to his forehead and shot them a worried look, "Ah man, I can't remember what it was. I'm so sorry…uh…"
"(Y/N)."
"(Y/N)! That's right!" Robin looked over at the door, "Oh oh! Yeah, sorry, this is Mr. Something-Or-Other's office. You can just walk on in, he doesn't do scheduled interviews. Says it's a waste of time. I know it’s weird but that’s just how we do it here. I'll be right out here when you’re done.”
They scanned their clothes and gave them a brush over with their hands to get rid of any wrinkles, “But what if it goes on awhile and you need to get back to your shift?”
Robin laughed, “Trust me, it won't take long. Fazbear interviews barely take five minutes at most." He shot up an encouraging thumbs up.
"Well thanks, let's cross our fingers that I’ll make a good first impression. I’m not very sure myself," (Y/N) quickly thought back to all the YouTube videos they had watched about participating in an interview and grabbed the doorknob, "and I'll tell you his name when I come out, okay?"
Robin took a step back and nodded, intensifying back his dimpled grin, "Oh, come on, I'm sure you'll do fantastic. One could even say...faztatic! Haha…any-anyways, I'll be right here waiting. Maybe, I'll talk to," he took a look around, "...whoever these people are. Good luck though!"
(Y/N) opened the door and stepped inside. A man who looked to be in his 50s sat at a desk on the other side of the room, flipping through papers with a bored expression. His hair was obviously greying and balding. His face was wrinkled while his mouth looked edged into a permanent frown. His suit was neat and tidy looking, freshly ironed. Glasses sat on the bridge of his noise. Without looking up, he waved his pen towards the seat across from him. They cleared their throat to ease some tension and moved to sit down. "So, what job were you looking at?" The man picked one of the papers up and examined it.
"Um, I was looking at the part time janitor position, Sir. For the evening?" The man had yet to make eye contact with (Y/N).
"You're hired."
"I-..Pardon?"
"You heard me, you're hired," he scribbled something onto the paper in his hand.
(Y/N) blinked, "But- hold on you don't even know my name?"
"Okay, what's your name?" He still wouldn't look up.
"(Y/N) (L/N)."
"You start tomorrow, (Y/N)," he stopped writing and flipped through a stack of papers off to the side. Finally, he pulled one out, glanced at it, and handed it to them. "Just sign all this and you'll officially be a part of the Fazbear crew."
The paper was confusing to say the least. Being expected to be okay with working overtime, filling in for other staff, picking up jobs that weren’t the one you signed up for, even promising not to sue in the event of loss of life or limbs. Everything about this screamed ‘red flag’. When they asked about the bodily harm part, the man only shrugged, not tearing his eyes away from the paper. They could hear Sabrina’s voice telling them to leave if things got fishy but...they just couldn't have her pay the bills by herself anymore.
"How much is the pay?"
"Eh, you'll find out on your first paycheck, I suppose."
“What about insurance?"
The man snorted at that one. They guessed that was the answer. This job was gonna suck, but they really didn't want to keep looking around. This one was just so easy to get. ‘Sorry, Mama,’ (Y/N) signed the papers with all the necessary information and handed it back to the man.
"You can leave now. Your shift starts at 3 pm. You'll be the janitor for the Superstar Daycare and I guess whatever else we may need you for later. Your shift will end at 9 pm. Bye." (Y/N) was surprised to know they’d be just assigned to a certain area…for the time being. They remembered something else, however.
"One final question," the man half-heartedly glanced up at this, still not meeting their eyes. They could see hazel in them. "What's your name?"
"George Goodly, but everyone calls me Mr. Goodly," he went back to his papers.
"Well, thank you for the job, Mr Goodly. Have a nice day," he didn't grace (Y/N) with a response. They sighed and got up to leave. "How did Robin mix up Goodly with something like Pumpernickel?" Only when they were out the door did Mr. Goodly finally raise his head fully and drop his pen. He pitifully eyed the exit the college student had just walked out of.
"Hate when they're young like that. Isn't fair really," he leaned back in his chair, his gaze landing on the piles of work left for him to do. "I suppose all I can hope for is it takes a few weeks before we have to hire another one," he slumped, "if they're lucky."
Outside, Robin slid up to (Y/N). "Hey, what job did you get? When do you start?" He was practically glowing.
"You seem even more excited about this job than I am," they laughed.
Robin started walking back towards the entrance. "I'm just excited that I might finally have a friend here- not like I don’t talk to anyone but y’a know- wait unless you don't want to be friends, of course!" He was back to looking embarrassed. He sure did have a habit of rambling, didn’t he?
"Yeah, I think it'd be nice to have someone to chit chat to here while on shift," they gave him a reassuring look that calmed Robin's nerves.
"Did Mr. What's-His-Face give you a good scare?" he raised his hands up in an attempt to appear menacing, which failed poorly. "Sorry about him, he doesn't really get attached to the workers for some reason. I always assumed he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and didn’t care about anyone working under him."
"Hm," Something about the man didn’t sit right with them. Yeah, it could’ve been he was a spoiled rich person, but it felt like there was something more to his disinterest. They unknowingly let the silence spill into the air. Robin just kept skipping.
"Weelll, what did you get hired for? At least before they get short staffed again and start adding on random jobs.”
"The janitor in some place called the ‘Superstar Daycare’. I didn't even realize they'd have janitors for different sections. Do you know anything about it?" The boxes were still on the ground from before. Careful footing was needed.
Robin did not have careful footing however and stumbled but quickly sprang back up and tried to act like it didn’t happen. They weren’t going to point it out. He nodded and coughed. "I've been there. It's just a spot for little kids to be watched while their parents do whatever. This place is huge so I get why they'd need to just keep people in seperate spots, even more so with all the sticky kids running around in that place. You're kinda lucky if you think about it." Robin opened the doors that lead from the hall to the main room.
(Y/N) stepped through, following him from behind, "How so?"
"You'll have the Daycare Attendant to help you out. He seems like a nice enough guy from what I’ve seen of him and I think he likes to clean, so you'll have an extra pair of hands to help out. This also means I have a reason to swing by there now," Robin stopped at the front doors leading outside. "Well, I better get back to work before someone tattles on me, and I'm sure you have to prep for whenever your first shift starts, so we can leave it here."
"Thanks for the moral support, Robin. I hope that we can become good buddies while working here!" Robin had a small blush cross over his cheeks.
"It was no problem really," he looked down, focusing in on his fingers as he fidded with them. “I can also introduce you to some of the people here, at least the ones I talk to.”
(Y/N) nodded and started walking out the door before stopping and turning around with raised eyebrows. "Oh, by the way, the manager's name was George Goodly. Not sure how you got the other name from that but just so you know," they doubted this info would stick with him.
Robin snapped his fingers, "Oh, you're right! That was his name! Thanks, (Y/N), I always get his name wrong." They chuckled but realized something.
"You remembered my name?"
Robin gestured towards his phone. "I wrote it down in my notes app. I actually get...well, everyone's names wrong but, you seemed cool so I wanted to make sure I remembered," his chest lifted with confidence. This managed to touch (Y/N), but it was short lived when seeing him deflate. He knitted his eyebrows together before saying, "Just as a heads up, I've heard rumors that the Daycare Attendant has been acting up a bit so uh- make sure to be careful with him, okay? I wouldn't want you to go in completely blind. If something does happen that doesn’t seem right, please get a hold of an engineer and let them know."
(Y/N) carefully considered these words, an unwanted chill finding its way down their spine, "Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure to keep an eye out for anything weird. I've gotta go make a call real quick, but it was nice meeting you, Robin!"
They each gave a wave and parted ways. (Y/N) pulled out their phone and called their mother. After a few rings, she picked up.
As is tradition in tumblr culture the locals unearth the corpse of a long deceased figure and drag it across the streets merrily, laughing at what is preserved of the person’s words. This custom, seen as morbid in other cultures, is instead done gleefully and with an unmatched enthusiasm
This one took awhile to get everything together for 😮💨. A little heads up though
At one point, I recruited Danny for a ‘suprise’ but I did a test and you can’t just swipe through the screenshots onto it, so I have a little “pause” thing to let anyone swiping through know to leave the close-up to click on it!
As before, Anna’s red and I’m purple, but Danny joins in a little bit here so for reference, he’s orange
