Incense burning with my tea cup and gentle Mabon planning.
âWe cannot live in a world that is interpreted for us by others. An interpreted world is not a home. Part of the terror is to take back our own listening. To use our own voice. To see our own light.â
â Hildegard von Bingen, from âSelected Writingsâ
Talismans are items that help to ground you, by helping you focus on the present, through a psychological process called Mindfulness.
A talisman can be anything, but items that utilize your senses are especially helpful
When you need to ground yourself, interact with your talisman using as many of your senses as possible. How does it feel in your hand? Is it heavy, cold, textured? If there are parts that move, follow it intently with your eyes. Slow, repetitive and rhythmic movement is best to calm you.
If you suffer from night terrors or nightmares, having a talisman that is always in the same place and readily visible from your bed can help. Make a habit of looking for your talisman each time you wake up. Seeing it will help to confirm you are in a safe place. If you need to use lighting, consider non-blue-based lights so as to not disrupt your sleep.
âGlance at the sun. See the moon and the stars. Gaze at the beauty of earthâs greening. Now, think.â
St. Hildegard of Bingen, 1148 AD.
Calming Potion to Pair with Compline
Compline is a centuries old practice and can be found in the book of common prayer.
Itâs a beautiful and ancient liturgy that prepares the soul for a restful night and sparks communion between you and all those who have prayed it in the past.
Potion Recipe:
Warmed milk of your choice. I prefer oat
Honey
Cinnamon
Warm and froth the milk then stir clockwise to mix in your desired amount of honey. Breathe deeply and sprinkle the cinnamon across the top to seal.
Drink as you prepare and perform the service of Compline. (BCP page 127)

đ Signs Iâve always been a Witch đ
In college I would walk from my dorm to a local cemetery to meditate under a large stone cross and listen and reflect on the dead
In high school I added chamomile to the family vegetable garden and grew and brewed my own tea
Throughout elementary and middle school the majority of my play was outside. We didnât have cable and only got two channels. I built natural shelters to âliveâ in outside. Always featured wreaths of gathered plants and rock formations.
In middles school I found a wooden box and kept my most precious collection of rocks in it and placed it in a hollow tree overnight because I imagined leaving them alone in the woods would make them special somehow
Wherever Iâve lived, Iâve always found certain trees that I thought of a individuals and feel drawn to spend time with. In my current city, I have several trees I visit regularly for different purposes.
Iâve always had a deep bond with animals. Iâve bottlefed/cared for many injured woodland creatures including baby skunks, a flying squirrel, a fawn, and a hummingbird.
My three favorite animals are cats, rats, and bats.
For my fifth birthday I begged for a Snow White cake but I only wanted the witch on it. Not the princess or the dwarves.
Iâve always collected interesting bottles, leaves, sticks, rocks, etc.
Iâve always felt safe outside, nighttime in the Forest is something I seek out.
To Protect the Home
Take out a compass and locate the North, South, West and East of your home. Go to each point, start from the North, touch the wall or floor and say these words:
Brick and earth,
Wood and stone,
Guard my hearth,
Guard my home.
Move to the center of your home and speak:
Protect my center,
Protect my home;
Ill shall not enter,
Ill shall not roam.
Then, hold your hand to the main entrance of your home and speak:
No ill shall pass,
beyond this door,
This house is safe,
From roof to floor.
You may scatter some salt and protective herbs, burn incense, bringing its smoke to each four corners and then at the center.
Grimoire Idea
Devote a page to listing and/or mapping all the important trees in your life. List them by type, estimated age, location, or the name youâve given them. Paste in fallen leaves from each tree. Example from my own book of shadows:
Red Bud tree in the SE corner of M. Park. learning and rest. (I usually hammock here after work and read)
The Dove Tree on the riverbank in F. Park. Community and family. (I made friends with the doves who built their nest in this tree two years in a row)
The Hut near the pavilion in TG. Park. Sanctuary and secrecy. (This tree has branches that bend down to create a dome. Once inside youâre hidden from the outside world by its thick leaves.)
The much anticipated âAphotic Sequenceâ. This is a sigil method that I designed myself, and if you look in the tag âAphotic Sequenceâ on my blog, you can see some of the sigils Iâve bad with it.
How to use: Instead of crossing out vowels and double letters, write out your intent and use all the letters present.
The lines represent the letters. If you have a repeating letter, place a small circle at the end of the preexisting line. You donât need to be exact with all the angles of you the lines.
Just use this picture as reference or, I would be happy to teach you how to make it. Feel free to ask me about it if you donât understand and want to learn. Please, if you decide to use this method and post it, tag me, Iâd love to see.
Iâd love to see this post make its way through the community as an alternative for new and old member alike.

How to use a sigil wheel.
A tutorial.Â
I rarely use this method myself, but I know people are always looking for tutorials on different methods of sigil making and not finding any. Iâve had a few different people asking for more graph based sigil making techniques, and this is a fairly well known one that fits that category. I hope this tutorial is coherent and answers questions instead of making things more confusing. If you have any questions, however, never be afraid to ask.
now thats nifty, but how do u make them? fear not, ur witchy friend is here w a tutorial â¤ď¸
My First Jar
Crafted to combat deep spiritual trauma from growing up an evangelical Christian. I was welcomed into a coven who helped me to craft this jar and place it in the Episcopal Church Iâm attending now to help me overcome the block I was feeling from panic attacks and anxiety around being in a place of worship. Iâve had traumatic experiences in such places in the past. Iâve joined a new church and was struggling to feel safe in the physical place. My body would react to the old hurt even when my head knew I was safe and welcomed in this space. Using the hidden jar as a mental touchstone for me has made relaxing and feeling part of the community possible.
