I'm sure you've heard of it on some level, at least most of you. (Even if only as silly space ninja game with fashion shows.) Me, personally? It's kind of been a game that I've played since about... damn, not sure. Well, I remember having to craft coordinates to get to Deimos missions, so a long time. Anyways. Warframe has always been my go-to game, whether it be mindlessly slogging through Steel Path survival missions after work, working on making new (usually gimmicky) builds for fun, or grinding out the latest frame or mods. Hell, even grinding out my Necramech when it first came out was memorable and kind of fun (it was more fun to use it, though).
Long story short, Warframe has kind of been my childhood game that grew up with me, from my first year of high school to now, with a job, car, and place of my own. And the main memorable thing about Warframe? The quests. Warframe's quests have always been dazzling to me. Especially the main storyline quests. I still remember the chills I got from The Second Dream quest, finding out about the Operator and your warframe saving you. The frustration I felt towards Teshin during The War Within. The genuine fear I felt during The Chains of Harrow. And The New War? Oh my god, it was glorious. Duviri? Love it. 1999? I wish I could erase my memories and play it again. But then... I played The Old Peace.
Don't get me wrong, The Old Peace was a fantastic quest. It brought a huge amount of lore drops to the table, and it was incredible to see. But it felt... half-done. Like partway through, they had to rush to get it done on time. I almost thought it was bugged in some places, and replayed it, but it was the same. Once again, I loved the quest. It was incredible. But once we got to the climax... it kind of fell apart, like there were holes everywhere. Like, Wait, where the hell did Amar come from? How did we get away from the ambush? (I think a short chase scene where we had to run, like drifter did from archon nira in the beginning of TNW, would have done wonders.) It started to feel like individual scenes spliced together into one big slideshow. Especially the journey back to Uriel. It was... janky, to be honest.
And the whole Jade Shadows: Constellations quest felt much the same way. I loved the idea of it, and I loved the plot line and story. But the cinematics and transitions left a lot, in my honest opinion. Once again, it felt like it was rushed and they cut a lot of the frills that made previous warframe quests so good just to save time, or resources or something. One of the biggest things was, "Why is Stalker just standing there, doing nothing while Hunhow talks?" The most emotion we see is Stalker using a portion of what looks like the Umbra Agile Pose. Why isn't he pacing around, using body language like he did during the Second Dream quest? Why didn't they use a cinematic cut, instead of just jumping from camera shot to camera shot?
All this to say, Warframe, I love you. Your gameplay is great, your lore is top-notch, and I don't know what I'd fill my time with if you didn't exist. But please, if you need more time to do a good job on a quest, take it. I'd rather have one quest like The New War every 3 years than two or three like Jade Shadows: Constellations in that same time. You're a great game, run by a great studio. And all I want is for that to continue for years to come. Thank you.
