【 Fujiki 】‌

Yusaku lightly sighed at her answer. He hadn’t started this conversation to be Miyu’s friendship counselor—in fact, he hadn’t really meant to start this conversation at all. If it wouldn’t have been for hearing her name from Aoi once and wanting to see if she really was Aoi’s friend, he probably would’ve let Miyu walk by without a word.

But it sounded like she more worried for Aoi’s sake than Aoi was for her.

“Don’t you think she’ll just worry more if you don’t talk to her though? Maybe the reason she worries so much is because she assumes you’re keeping something from her.”

Frowning slightly Miyu felt silent again. There wasn't much she could say against it. After all the other one was probably right with this. Aoi most likely knew she was keeping things from her, but respected her not wanting to talk about it.

It wasn't making things easier though. More the opposite.

"Maybe." she replied in the end. There wasn't much she could add to it. But still... talking about it seemed like a real option either..

That shift in their conversation was sudden. Even a bystander probably could’ve picked out that much as Yusaku fell quiet again. 

Why was she suddenly trying to ask him about something like that? Not that the topic was anything too personal, but the two of them barely knew each other. The most he’d ever heard of Miyu was her name from Aoi a couple of times. Enough to know that she’d been a victim of the Lost Incident, but he highly doubted she knew that much about him, too. 

“That sounds like something you should be telling Zaizen-san though. Not really me,” Yusaku would brush off her question, “Maybe she’d understand if you actually told her there’s something keeping you from being friends like before.”

The other one probably wasn't the right one for such topics as they barely knew each other. But maybe that was the reason why it was so easy. The other one knew nothing about her. But that also meant that he had no expectations. No picture about her in his mind.

"But I can't." she replied eventually, shaking her head slightly while her hands were playing with the fabric of her shirt. "I don't want to hurt her. She already worries enough about me as it is."

And maybe telling her about these problems meant accepting that she had them on a completely different level than this already was. And Miyu wasn't sure if she was ready for that yet.

【 Yusaku 】‌

“Yeah, but…have you tried talking to her lately?”

Hopefully the answer to that was ‘yes’ because if Miyu was expecting him to help steer her in the right direction, she obviously didn’t know Yusaku. He was doing a good job just to keep this conversation going so far, let alone actually manage to give Miyu any personal advice on how to keep a friendship up.

Asking him about friends when Yusaku could count the number of people he considered that close on one hand probably wasn’t the best idea in his opinion.

“Maybe that’s a sign you two just need to catch up.”

For a moment she felt silent, just watching the other one before she shook her head eventually. “We’re talking nearly every day.” she replied in the end. It wasn’t like she wasn’t trying to overcome that distance. She enjoyed having Aoi back in her life, she really did. 

But with the events of the Lost Incident still all to clear in her memory... sometimes it was hard to see that she wasn’t in that place anymore. That she got her life back, her friend. She just had to accept it. But somehow that seemed so difficult to her. 

“Did you...  even experience something horrible? Something you never were able to let go of? It’s... it’s standing between Aoi-chan and me like a wall. Sometimes I manage to climb over it... and sometimes I’m so small and the wall’s so high and I’m to tired to even try.” 

Why was she even talking about this with him? She barely know him. But at the same time.. Aoi had talked so much about him, like she would trust him... maybe that meant she could trust him as well ?

【 Yusaku 】

“I guess, but we’ve really only talked outside of class a few times.”

And they’d never been long conversations either. Just a few minutes here and there and the occasional ‘good morning’ greetings before class during the week, too. Though, Yusaku wouldn’t say he avoided Aoi whenever he’d seen her around either. 

Aoi was actually okay to talk to. He’d felt like the two of them were on the same wavelength most of the time, especially in the introverted category.

“You say that like you two don’t talk as much anymore though. Weren’t you the friend she mentioned going to visit in the hospital?” Or had Yusaku just assumed that?

"But she acknowledges your presence." she replied, head slightly tilted to the side. It was different compared to just walking around without even looking at anyone.

The question made her blink though. So Aoi talked about her as well?

"I am, and... we do. It's nice to have her around again, but we haven't seen each other in ten years. I'm not the person I was as child and sometimes I just feel like Aoi can't understand what I went through. She always tried to but..."

There were things she couldn't say. And so Aoi couldn't know about them.

"There's this distance between us. And I just don't know how to overcome it."

【 Fujiki 】

“Yeah.”

Bad with names? Not really. Though he seemed like he was bad with names, the truth was, Yusaku just couldn’t be bothered to remember. He wasn’t exactly at school to make friends when all he wanted was to blend into the background as much as possible; but Yusaku could remember Aoi mentioning Miyu a few times.

So this was the girl she’d been talking about?

“She’s in the Duel Club here. We’ve met a few times outside of class, too, but…I wouldn’t say we’re that close. Not like you two are?”

Close, hu? For a moment the girl felt silent again, before she shook his head slowly. "I guess we once were." she replied eventually, before a sigh left her lips. "A lot of things had happened. They changed us. But I guess we're on a good way to get there again."

At least it was what Miyu hoped for. But ever since that incident things hadn't been the same. She hadn't been the same.

"If she talks to you outside of classes it means she likes you."

She really didn't want to talk about herself here.

【 Takeru 】

“You didn’t stay in there for a long time or anything though, did you?”

That wasn’t being too nosy of him to ask, was it? Takeru was curious, but he didn’t want to pry either. Whatever she was in the hospital for and however many times Aoi visited her during was information best kept to Miyu unless she wanted to tell Takeru herself, but that wouldn’t stop him from lightly asking either. 

“I remember Zaizen-san visiting here a lot, but I always thought she just liked coming here because Yusaku was a classmate and a familiar face. But I guess stopping here before going there makes sense, too. The hospital’s close to here, right?”

“Actually...” she replied, frowning slightly. In the end it all depended on the definition of long probably, but still Miyu wouldn’t say that she left again there all too soon after ending up there. She couldn’t even remember how she got there in the first place. Of course she had been told how someone had found her passed out in front of a bigger shopping center, but no one had been able to tell her what exactly had happened at all. From Aoi she knew that the Light Ignis had been involved but how exactly was something she never heard. Or why exactly the Igins had made that step to begin with. 

“I was there for a few weeks? I can’t even tell the exact time anymore. I was in a coma for quiet a while and they were rather reluctant in letting me go again all too soon after I woke up again.” 

She stopped a moment, wondering if there had been a chance for things to end up different. But she was rather well aware of the fact that the past couldn’t be changed. In the end she shrugged, before taking a few more fries. 

“The hospital’s down that street over there. It’s really not that far.”

Actually...she couldn’t help but hate that place.

【 Takeru 】‌

Thankfully, Miyu wouldn’t have to wait long! No sooner had she picked a table and had settled in did Takeru come around the back of Kusanagi’s truck holding two baskets of freshly made Cafe Nagi fries with plenty of cheese on both.

“Here. They’re still kinda of hot, so be careful.” Carefully sliding on of the baskets across the table, Takeru picked his seat across from Miyu before plopped his own plate of fries in front of him.

“But I bet Zaizen-san’s talked about this place plenty, huh?” Takeru knew she’d visited Cafe Nagi before anyway.

It really didn't took that long until Takeru returned again and for a moment she couldn't help but wonder if Takeru actually ordered the fries or just went ahead and got them himself. She didn't asked that question though. Instead she greeted the other one with a bright smile.

"Thank you." she replied, carefully taking up a single one of the fries before trying it. It really tasted good.

"Yeah, but mostly because she used to go here before or after she visited me at hospital."

【 Yusaku 】

“I’ve been doing well myself… That being said. I’m relieved to see you finally in public. It’s honestly makes me glad to see you safe and sound, Miyu.” He compliment the brunette, his emerald orbs were making contact with her brown ones. Life resumed its normal course after that incident. He changed greatly, and became more determined and rational.

That incident has left a scar that will haunt him for how long he knows and he doesn’t associate with many people since he is a loner by nature.

I bet Aoi will be pleasantly surprised to see her childhood friend again since it has been so long the two have last met. But that would have to wait for another day. The same could also be said for Yusaku and Miyu. “So, uh, since you’re here and all. I thought going out for some coffee. Would you like to join me, Miyu?” He replied to Miyu in a calm fashion, he would had no problem keeping the girl company.

With that, he silently awaited what she was going to say to his response. Miyu hadn’t certainly seen much of the outside world since that incident occurred and both of them were changed after all that happened.

It was kinda relieving to hear things like that. Even though... finally in public? Blinking a bit surprised she shook her head again. "I do my best." was the short reply she gave in the end. If she would tell the other one about her living conditions would he still say the same? Probably not. She wouldn't even say she was anything close to being safe probably.

"Sure." she replied happily, a small smile on her lips. She wasn't sure if she could even afford a coffee, but she probably would find out once they'd reach the place Yusaku had in mind.

【 Yusaku 】

It certainly would have been really embarrassing for Miyu if it was a total stranger she was grabbing onto instead of Yusaku. Realizing this he pulled back his sleeve where she was pulling on it. It was best to leave it this way.

“The same could be said to you as well. It is certainly a surprise to see you here again, Miyu. I’m pleasantly happy to see you safe.” And there he goes, speaking what’s on his mind. Although the years of the incident occurred years ago. Yusaku did change greatly after that time frame.

For a moment she felt silent,but eventually  pulled her arm back again. It surely was a surprise to meet the other one here out of all places .After all... it wasn’t exactly close to the place where they used to live all those years ago. 

“Yeah I kinda moved.” she replied in the end. It wasn’t like an actual move. Her mother lived in the same house after all. As far as authorities were informed she probably lived there still as well. At least it never had seemed like her mother had send police after her or anything similar. 

Taking a closer look at the other one she tilted her head to the side slightly. The other one hadn’t changed that much. At least from his appearance. But Miyu knew how much the incident had shaken and changed her. There was no doubt that the other one had changed as well. 

“I hope... you’re doing well?” At least he was wearing a school uniform so he was still going to school. That was... a good sign right? Even if it was showing her that there probably had been a way to deal with the past and still attending to school. Or a normal life. Or anything like that. Maybe she would have found it if she had tried more.

【 Yusaku 】

It was another day for Yusaku who was on the streets, walking around aimlessly. That moment wasn’t going to last for too long as a familiar person he knew all too well has bumped into him unexpectedly and in a rash manner.

What a strange occurrence it was for Yusaku, who was out and suddenly having this person ran into him like she was in a hurry or rather paranoiac. Yusaku was pleasantly surprised at the sight of this person who was thought to be gone from that certain incident…

“… Miyu?” He asked, his expression shifted to a surprised one, he certainly didn’t expect a girl from his past to suddenly show up in front of him like this. A slight curiosity was presented in his tone as he had taken notice that she was grabbing a hold of his sleeves.

The expression in the other ones face was shifting, but he was neither pulling his arm back nor was he telling her that she was mistaken him with someone, which actually caused some kind of relieve inside her because honestly...grabbing a total stranger at his arm would have been really emberassing and honestly the girl wasn’t even sure what she had been thinking at that moment. Probably that she needed to get the other one to stop. 

“I.. haven’t seen you around for a while.” she replied after a while, still trying to take in that she actually met the other one again. So many years had passed every since and she was rather sure that Yusaku had changed as much as she did as a consequence of the incident all those years ago. “It’s nice to see you’re okay.”

Tilting her head to the side the girl buried her hands deeper into the pockets of her jacket, looking around carefully. It was ... a strange feeling. Lately she felt like she was being watched most of the time. But whenever she looked around there wasn't anyone who seemed like watching here.

Frowning slightly she shook her head. Maybe she was getting paranoid now as well on top of all things? Wouldn't surprise her that much, if she was honest to herself.

A sigh left her lips, before she picked up a faster pace of walking. At least until some blur of blue and pink passed by at the corner of her eyes, making her stop in an instant.

Wait...

"Yusaku?" she asked, turning around while grabbing the other one at his sleeves at the same time. It was the other one, right? If only because this would be really, really embracing if it wasn't the boy she remembered from her past.  And that still was possible right? After all she hadn't seen the other one since... well since then...

“And I’m Takeru,” he added, “I guess we got so caught up in talking, I forgot to introduce myself, huh?”

Though, now that she’d said something, her name seemed familiar somehow. Maybe he’d overheard Aoi or Yusaku mention a name like her once, but either way, Takeru would turn to give a small wave over his shoulder; a silent signal that Miyu should pick a table and get comfortable. 

“But wait right there! I don’t know if Kusanagi-san has fries ready, but I’ll be right back with your food.” And an order of fries with extra cheese sauce for himself, too! They could talk more over lunch.

A quiet laugh left her lips because yeah, she kinda forgot about the name part as well. So the others name was Takeru. Miyu couldn't help but wonder if that name should sound familiar too.

"Thanks." she replied in the end, looking around before deciding on a table to settle down at. She hadn't actually planned on staying around that long, but she enjoyed the other ones company so why not staying a little bit longer?

And if Takeru was friends with Aoi's friend it almost made them friends as well, right?

【 Tsuki 】‌

Unfortunately, Tsuki was almost just as stubborn as Ryoken. So a sardonic but stifled back laugh was all Miyu would get in response to that. Whether or not Tsuki knew that statement was more or less, true. It didn’t change the fact that he was out here to die. Besides, being a pawn wasn’t really an insult. More like a privilege. 

“Mhm.” 

He’d nod eventually, not touching on the subject of himself.

“I also hope you’ll feel the same after everything ends.”

She wasn’t sure what to make out of that laugh, most of all because she didn’t knew the other one good enough. Yet. Because the girl was already determined to change that fact now that he got to talk to the other one. 

In the end she couldn’t even tell for sure if the other one was agreeing to him saying that he was more than a pawn for Ryoken. But somehow she was rather sure that both of them were aware about that. Anyone who had seen Ryoken acting around the other one probably was rather well aware of that. 

“Well I do too.” she replied after a while, her voice thoughtful,while she was watching out to the stars. “But isn’t that why we’re alive? To hope to find a place where we belong and feel happy and welcomed?”

【 Amagawa 】

That was something he could agree with. Hanoi was like family… Something Tsuki only had for a few years. People say you can choose your family. Tsuki was the type of person who leaned towards that belief. Except… Things like that didn’t matter as much anymore.

“That’s true. But personally? I don’t really care if what we do is illegal or not, I’m just a pawn in the end after all.”

A small pause. It wasn’t very often he’d let his thoughts spill in front of people that weren’t Ryoken.

“Anyways… I hope you truly feel at home here.” 

He lightly scratched his cheek. 

Something about the others words made Miyu frown slightly. The way of thoughts wasn’t that unknown to her but still it was strange to hear it from Tsuki of all people. Maybe it wasn’t that surprising for people that knew the other one a bit better, but Miyu was actually talking to him for real for the first time so... she only knew what she had seen of the other one and the others acting around him. 

“I don’t think you’re just a pawn Amagawa-kun. At least not for Ryoken.” she replied after a while, head tilted to the side. 

“He seems to care a lot about you.”  The next words kinda dragged her out of the mood she had been about to fall into, causing her to blink a bit surprised. 

“Ah I do? It’s a lot better compared to when I still lived with my mother for sure.”

“She’s probably a way better student than me, too! But when it comes to grades, that’s…probably not too hard for anyone to beat either.”

The comment would come with a laugh from Takeru. He’d never sugarcoated that he wasn’t the best student the city had ever seen. Even if he was managing to school everyday now, his report card was still something that could definitely use some improvement. 

“Anyway! You said you wanted some of Cafe Nagi’s cheese fries, right? I can go ask if Kusanagi-san can make two orders if you want.”

“She’s probably way better than I would be as well.” she added, laughing quietly. Her grades had been decent once, but once she left her mothers house she hadn’t seen any schools from the inside so her grades probably aren’t that good anymore. 

But eventually they returned to their previous topic - the reason why she was here to begin with and the girl found herself nodding again. “Yeah, yeah that’s right and.. .that would be great thank you.” For a moment she stopped, before showing the other one a bright smile again. 

“I’m Miyu by the way.”
