Baking #cookies around #christmas is my favorite thing to do and I swear it calms my heart and soul during the stressful parts of the holidays. We really had an amazing day making cookies together. Made some classic eggnog sugar cookies decorated by miss Scarlett and some fantastic peanut butter blossoms with my mom. It’s been an adventure so far this year. I’ve been doing lots. Working on making my first wine from a kit. Enjoying my second season of growing more vegetables and have been finally getting back to some of my roots and creating more art. Rediscovery

It’s one of those things where you decide you want to work on rediscovering yourself. It could be because the fast paced world has you forgetting the good parts of life. It could be because you are depressed. It could be because you are watching everyone around you move past the stage you are in your life. Whatever it is, it’s something most people go through but not everyone is open to talking about. I’ve thought about journaling but the reality is I suck at doing it consistently which is what makes it valuable to most people. Making this post feels easier some how. Writing it all out this one time takes away the pressure to make it into a journal post that I’ll never remember to follow up on.  I feel like working out is more like my journaling, it’s an outlet that speaks without words but really helps me work through whatever it is I’m dealing with. But lately that just doesn’t seem to even be enough. I yearn for days where I can do nothing, but sadly end up wanting to do everything because I suck at doing nothing. I have all these goals in the back of my head, cleaning up my office, actually organizing my sewing so I can sew again (I have too many projects in partially done states), I NEED to work on the new house and yard, I want to help my parents clean my grandmother’s house, I want to get into a training regiment for the Tough Mudder, I want to garden, I want to work on my Essential oils business, I want to help build a design community, I want to catch up on Netflix shows, I miss playing video game and want to do that again, I just want to do all these things. So much so that my brain feels so overwhelmed so I do none of it. Like I genuinely miss/want to water color paint. I recently convinced myself to watercolor paint some things for my friends bridal shower. It was a blissful evening of listening to the Wild Belles and drinking wine while just letting colors fly. I want to do it more, I actually think it could be the missing link to helping me decompress properly. I think about it about doing it once a week, but it never happens. It feels like I let life get in the way. That’s exactly it! I let life convince me that I don’t have the time to paint. I need to change that.

“Rebel” Acrylic and gouache on Rives BFK mounted on wood panel 9″ x 12″ Here’s my piece inspired by Princess Leia for Gallery 1988’s Star Wars: Art Awakens gallery show and charity auction, a collaboration between Gallery 1988, Disney, LucasFilm, and Bad Robot. Pieces in the show will be auctioned off for charity on eBay on Friday, November 13th. If you’re in Los Angeles, you can see the artwork in person on Saturday and Sunday (November 14th and 15th) from 11am–10pm at Gallery 1988 (West). Find out more info here and support a good cause!

Almost everything in this piece is a reference from the original Star Wars trilogy: the symbols of the Rebel Alliance and the Empire, band patches for Max Rebo Band and the Mos Eisley Cantina band, “Rebel scum,” tattoos of Alderaan and Leia’s blaster, modified X-wing pilot gloves, the vest Leia wore on Hoth, her pants from Endor, the chain she used to strangle Jabba, and of course her hair from A New Hope. If you couldn’t tell, I had a lot of fun with this!
