Based on the anon question I got here asking about how long Mal’s hair was, so I decided to do some art to give a visual answer. <: For anyone who needs the context, Mal is a character from my original project Feathers and Flowers; a link to the tag will be below in case you wanna learn more about it and its lore, characters, and so on! ^.^ Anyhow!

Mal’s hair is pretty long, reaches probably around mid tailbone, and it’s almost always kept in a braid to keep it out of the way. Her hair is unique in that it doesn’t quite feel like human hair; its of the same make as her wings “feathers”, which aren’t even like the feathers of a normal bird in the first place. It’s heavier, more like a mix between feathers, hair, and thick fur, and is pretty durable; she doesn’t necessarily have to worry about things like split ends.

Kaela is utterly fascinated with how different Mal’s hair is from her own and enjoys playing with it any chance she’s allowed, which actually isn’t terribly often; Mal doesn’t mind touch, but she’s a little more protective of her wings and hair. Her allowing Kaela to touch her hair at all is a sign of trust.

Speaking of! That first doodle is somethin’ I did for a quick funfact! Mal’s too big to fit in Kaela’s tiny bathtub and the first few weeks living with her was kinda troublesome when it came to bathing. ESPECIALLY for cleaning her wings. After a few awkward tries with the extendable shower faucet, Mal outright gave up trying to use the tiny little bathtub and just opted to use the springs deep in the woods.

Kaela dislikes the idea of Mal having to use a damn lake in the woods to bathe but until they find out about Spirit Bath Houses, it’s the best they come up with, so she would sometime accompany her. This particular instance could probably be the first time she comes with Mal (maybe she’s even asked to go) or at the very least, the first time Mal actually allows her to wash her hair.
