an interesting linguistics find! so I'm reading this text from 1908 and it keeps referencing "hp" in the context of "not being at full hp" "applying your full hp to a task" etc
and I'm like....... okay that is a perfectly normal way to describe energy and reads totally clear to me, but I KNOW you don't mean hit points/health points which is the first place my brain goes, so what are YOU using hp to mean
and it's not explained in-text, which means it was common enough to not warrant explanation to the 1908 audience, so gotta look elsewhere
horsepower. turns out it's horsepower.
and I'm absolutely FASCINATED that a commonly used initialism from 1908 now stands for something different AND YET the contextual meaning is still the same to a 21st-century reader
I could hand this guy my nintendo switch and he'd be like, ah yes I understand, this ''''pokemon'''' loses horsepower throughout the fight
language is amazing
The problem with getting popsicles is then you have popsicles in the house and every time you feel bad (mentally, physically,) you think “well why shouldn’t I have a popsicle about it”
When you say "fanfiction should be censored" you are normalizing the idea of censorship, amplifying conservative views of sex, and endangering queer media.
happy disability pride month and once again, FUCK lazy subtitles. fuck the [speaks foreign language] instead of actually transcribing the words, fuck shortening sentences and changing whats been said for no reason, fuck censoring swearing in captions but not in audio and fuck anyone who says youre being 'too sensitive' for being upset about a lack of accessibility
Happy disability pride month!!
First of all: Keep complaining!! You're not "too sensitive". Accessibility is a must, you're entitled to good quality subtitles and audio description.
However, working in accessibility myself, I might've felt a little triggered by some of the opinions expressed on the reblogs... So, I'd like to share a couple clarifications:
1) We don't shorten sentences for the hell of it. There's a set of parameters we need to adjust to so the subtitles are readable (and therefore accessible), and it's often tougher than you'd think to rephrase what it's being said.
2) One can be a great subtitler, but if you're given zero time and resources... yes, the end product will be less than ideal, but that's not entirely the subtitler's fault. Maybe someone higher up should be prioritising accessibility and we should be complaining about them instead. Radical, I know.
So, yes, there are objectively bad/lazy subtitles, especially when there are no professionals involved in the process. But if you're passionate about the topic, I beg you to do some research on it because some of you are giving "my cousin speaks Japanese so he can translate that" energy, and I thought we were past that.

Happy pride!🌈
Here's a small fruity drawing I've been working on. I was inspired by a very similar design I made in an attempt to rainbow-fy my planner for the month. I originally used the Zebra Mildliners, but decided to re-make it digitally to use as a phone or computer background!
This past month I've been exploring different drawing programs and apps because I'm trying to learn more about digital art, so any recs of good apps for a non-Apple user, are appreciated!!
Feel free to download and use, but please don't repost trying to pass it as your own, thanks! ✨
