Behind the Scenes

It is DONE. Just posted the final chapter for my @co-wipadoption fest fic! Original idea by @royalasstronaut <3 This fic is now complete, for any of y'all who don't do wips. :) Here's a little preview of the final chapter; you can read the whole thing over on ao3!

Simon

I’m trying not to panic over the fact that this is my last season. It’s only the first week; it’s too soon for me to start mourning the end of an era. Still, every day when I wake up staring at the plain grey ceiling of my dorm room, the knowledge that everything is almost over descends on my chest and threatens to crush the air out of my lungs. Of course, part of that could just be that I’ve been assigned to share a room with Baz this summer. It’s been almost a week, and somehow he’s managed to avoid talking to me the entire time. He’s working on Davy’s show, which doesn’t have any stage combat in it, so I don’t see him during the day, and he comes home so late every night that I’m always asleep by the time he gets back to the room, even if I try to stay awake. I roll onto my side and look over at his bed now. He has the covers pulled up so high that only the top of his head is peeking out. He always sleeps in; I don’t know how he has time to eat before rehearsals start every day. An upsetting thought occurs to me suddenly.

What if he doesn’t eat breakfast?

He may be the guy who gave me my bisexual awakening and then refused to talk to me ever again, but no one deserves to miss the most important meal of the day. I jump out of bed, resolving to take action immediately. 

A half hour later, I slip the key into the door of our room, trying to open it quietly in case Baz is still sleeping. As I push the door with my shoulder, I hear a strangled yelp. The door swings open, and I’m greeted by the glorious sight of Baz standing in the middle of the room wearing the most well-fitting pair of black boxer briefs I’ve ever seen, and nothing else. He’s got his outfit for the day laid out neatly on his bed, and he’s looking at me like a deer caught in the headlights.

“Can you shut the fucking door, Snow?” Baz snarls, snapping me out of the daze I was in. 

I realize I’ve just been standing in the doorway staring at him like an absolute creep, and I hurriedly rush inside, pulling the door closed behind me. 

“Sorry, I’m sorry,” I offer, and Baz grimaces as he tries to get dressed as fast as humanly possible. I turn my back and face the wall, as if that’s going to erase the image seared into my brain– Baz’s toned thighs and well-groomed chest hair, the soft curve of his shoulder and the sharp cut of his hips… I shake my head in a futile attempt to get my mind out of the gutter. 

“You can turn around now,” Baz says lowly. 

I hold out the tray of coffee and the brown paper bag I’m carrying like an offering as I turn to face him. 

“I brought you some breakfast,” I tell him weakly.

WIP Wednesday

Hooo baby, haven't done one of these in a while!! I love and appreciate y'all. So. Here we are. I'm sharing a little peek at the next chapter of my @co-wipadoption fest fic, "Behind the Scenes" which has just been posted! Shoutout to @royalasstronaut for being the mastermind behind the original concept. Check it out below or read the whole fic over on ao3. This one will hopefully all be posted by the end of the week.

Simon

I nod, and Baz takes my hand, towing me behind him as he snakes his way through the drunken mayhem and out into the hallway. He’s still got his fingers laced through mine as we wander away from the party, turning corners aimlessly until we finally land in a stairwell where we can barely even hear the ABBA music anymore. I sink down on the steps, and after a moment, Baz joins me. He lets his head fall against my shoulder, and for a second, I let myself press my face into his long, shiny hair. It smells so nice. We’re still holding hands, but I gently pull my fingers away from his so I can put that arm around him and keep him close. I feel the tension tightening his shoulders, and he lifts his head.

“What’s wrong?” I ask.

“Simon… what is this?”

I shrug with the shoulder furthest from Baz and he glares at me. He’s a fucking picture, with his dark brows knit together over his high nose, a sheen of sweat across his cheeks. His mouth is slightly open, and his bottom lip looks so plump. I don’t think about it. I lean in and kiss him. Baz gasps, and for a moment I think I’ve made a massive miscalculation, but then he’s kissing me back, his long fingers winding into my hair and holding me to him. I’ve still got one arm wrapped around him, and I raise the other hand to his face, running my thumb over the edge of his jaw and then sinking my fingers into his hair. It’s as soft as it looks. Baz opens his mouth for me, and I slide my tongue against his. He tastes like tequila. Baz’s hands are clutching at my t-shirt now, trying to get me closer, so I break the kiss to stand up and swing my leg over him. My knees are jammed against the stairs, and I don’t care, it doesn’t matter. I’m in Baz’s lap, and he’s tilting his chin up, reaching for my mouth. I give it to him. I kiss him frantically, grinding down into his thighs and feeling a thrill right through my core when I find him just as hard as I am. I roll my hips again, and Baz makes a sound somewhere between a cry and a moan. I swallow it. I want to hear it again. Baz pulls his lips away from mine and I growl in protest, but then he drops his mouth to the spot where my neck meets my shoulder, and suddenly I can’t think of anything but how good it feels. I hold him against me by the back of his neck.

Behind the Scenes

Well damn, it's good to be back. Due to some work-life insanity, I am very, very late posting this fic for the @co-wipadoption fest, but here we are. I was lucky enough to be paired with the amazing @royalasstronaut who came up with this summer stock theatre AU of my dreams. Check out a preview below, or just read the whole thing on Ao3.

JUNE 1

Baz

“Got a light, mate?”

His voice is light, like his skin where the sunlight is touching it. He’s staring me down from where he’s leaning against the wall, brandishing half of an unlit joint. Simon Snow—we only met yesterday, along with the rest of the crew. (His icebreaker fun fact was “I can breathe fire,” like that’s a totally normal thing to know how to do.)

The nerve of him. I’m just trying to get into the building, for Christ’s sake.

“You really think smoking on the job on the first day is a good idea?” I ask. 

We might only be nineteen, and this might only be summer stock, but it is still technically a job. I don’t need it financially, but I do need the excuse to stay in Boston over the summer. Desperately. I’ll be damned if some mop-headed Northern arsehole is going to ruin that for me by implicating me in his drug use. Even if he does have the most devastating shoulders I’ve ever seen and a soft, muscular belly that nudges up against his t-shirt when he moves. 

I refuse to be distracted.

Snow laughs and shrugs. “It helps me focus.”

“I’m sure.” With a sigh, I toss him my Zippo and he lights up.

“Ruth gave id to be,” he says tightly, holding in smoke.

“You’re joking.” 

He shakes his head and exhales in a series of perfect smoke rings. 

“Nope.” 

Ruth Salisbury is our artistic director and also a tenured professor at Boston University, and also Snow’s grandmother, and now I don’t know what to think. But I suppose this is what I signed myself up for: a summer of escapism, in which I could do things like smoke professor-procured pot with my crewmate in the side alley of the rehearsal space. 

It’s all just a bit surreal. The day looks so normal otherwise; it’s sunny and warm out. If I look down and to the left, I can see someone doing their laundry in the basement of the dorm next door.

“Fuck it,” I say, more nonchalantly than I feel, “I’ll take some.”

Six Sentence Sunday

My brain is absolutely stuck in what I’m writing right now, so I can’t think of anything to say… I think that’s a good thing, though…?

Ummm… It’s from the WIP I adopted from @trenchcoat-moth as part of the Carry On WIP Adoption fest ( @co-wipadoption )… yeah… it’s Margaret… Margaret is hard XD.

“Tried to steal kitten’s magic, did they?” Margaret waves a finger and tuts. “Fool’s errand. Cannot steal magic without taking blood. Bleeding, yes. And more magic. Dragon magic will know. Magic will hide.” 

“But the Humdrum did take his magic.”  

“Kitten gave back what he took, yes. Felt him taking. Not meant to take magic like that. Must give it back. And kitten did. Felt that too. But while there is still blood, there is still magic.”  

“Then what did Smith-Richards do to him?” 

“Black-hearted mage with crooked smile? Thief? Yes. Magic threatens kitten once, magic hides. Twice, magic shields. When he is dragon, magic will come back. When he is fierce.”

WIP Wednesday

OMG IT’S WEDNESDAY!?! How did that happen?

Thank you for the tag @cutestkilla, and @captain-aralias, @ivelovedhimthroughworse, and @fatalfangirl for the tags in previous weeks when I had nothing to share. 

I’m here with my first update in what feels like years (I think it’s only been like a month, but still 😆), and I’ve actually written something!!! 😱

This is from the Carry On WIP Adoption Fest (@co-wipadoption). I needed an extension, because… life, but I’m getting somewhere!

It was adopted from @trenchcoat-moth, and is about Simon becoming a dragon.

I’m not sure if I was a great fit for this, I really wish I was better at being… fluffy and… I don’t know, just not so intense? But I’m doing my best 😅. 

I also feel like I’ve started to lose grasp of the Carry On characters’ voices, which is really sad. I’ll probably relisten to the audiobooks soon (I think it’s the Our Flag Means Death brainrot that did it… been doing a lot of reading in the relatively unfamiliar New Zealand accent and it’s jumbled up my brain. It’s getting better, though…)

Anywho…

I stride across the room and take a knee in front of him, “We’ll figure it out, Baz.”

“Yeah,” he sniffs, then catches my eyes with his, “Yes. I know we will.”

“Baz?” I take his hand and lean in, “Am I immortal?”

That startles a laugh out of him. (He snorts. Actually snorts).

“You aren’t immortal, Snow.” He smiles down at me. As if I’m absolutely the most exhausting thing in the world. And as if I’m his favorite thing.

“I feel pretty immortal.” 

“Well. I’m sure the American dragon will know. She’ll know more than I do, at any rate. In the meantime, I’m not drinking your blood.”

“Aren’t you even a little curious? It looks kind of like candy.” I widen my eyes, “I wonder if it’d taste like blue raspberry.”

He puts his face in his hands, and his voice is muffled, “Your blood does not taste like blue raspberry.”

“I mean like, compared to other blood, at least—”

He drops his hands takes hold of my arms, pulling me up so he can wrap his arms around my waist, “You still smell like bread and butter, Snow.” He reaches up for a kiss and I give it to him, “And a bit like smoke. Which isn’t exactly new, but also isn’t entirely the same.”

Til’ Death Do Us Part

When one of Simon's plots to reveal Baz as a vampire goes sideways, the two end up magically engaged. They should be trying to break the engagement, but as time goes on, they start to feel less inclined to...

She wants to resume her life, but just like last time, Penny keeps calling her to check if she’s doing alright. Since Penny is the only person who knows Agatha’s temporary phone number, Agatha will just have to deal with it in order to keep her happy. But as the days go on, Agatha starts seeing a new side of Penny and with Penny’s insight, she starts to realise some things about herself as well.

Summary: Ten weeks into their eighth year, Penny tries to find an alternative use for True colours by casting it on herself to make her hair work like a mood ring...except she's too powerful of a witch and winds up spelling the entire school instead. Everyone’s hair now shifts according to how they feel. Well, everyone except Baz, who starts covering up his hair. Obviously he's hiding a deep dark evil secret. (Maybe his hair turns into a bunch of snakes?) Never fear though, Simon Snow will not rest until he uncovers this mystery.

Everyone's been so nice about this fic and I'm going through all the comments smiling like a maniac right now, so please accept this no context spoiler as a token of my appreciation.
