davis scrunched his nose up, “yeah, i don’t know. maybe. i get up early if it includes early morning loving from a girl.” which, wasn’t really in the cards right now. the only girl he was interested in had ghosted him. he thought things were going well between them but obviously he was wrong. “but i do like exercise too.” he finally added, his shoulders lifting up in a shrug. he chuckled once the man opened the door and he nodded his head, walking in and immediately making his way to the line that would lead them up to the counter. “what do you say i pay for both coffees this morning? my treat.”

eli chuckled and nodded his head. “yeah, that can usually get any man up early.  i think a nap is usually taken after that, though.”  when davis slightly agreed, at least in eli’s eyes, he smiled.  “i’ll check in before my next hike and see if the exercise is worth missing that mornin’ love.” patting him on the shoulder, eli stood in line and looked at the counter and the line, then back to davis.  “thanks, man, i really appreciate that.  i’ll return the favor next time.”  the line moved quickly enough and eli ordered his americano with a splash of 2% then waited at the end of the counter with the rest of the customers waiting for their coffee.

davis laughed softly and shook his head. he knew that most of them knew davis as the one that was more than likely going to be late. he was tired and he’d always been one to sleep late. “that would be nice but unfortunately, no. sometimes, i have to put my big boys track pants on and get up before the sun goes down.” he joked back, a smile resting on his lips. “anyways, i need a pick me up. i don’t like getting up before noon but hey, adults can’t sleep late like that, especially when we have responsibilities.” he added. 

Eli chucked and nodded his head “Well, I’m a firm believer that the sunrise is just as good as the sunset.  Maybe I can convince you to come on the hike with me sometime.”  Davis was a good guy, and Eli got along with him, as well as everyone else he was around.  Eli wasn’t the type to not be friendly to someone.  He didn’t hold grudges because he thought life was too beautiful and too sacred to hold grudges and to not be the sunshine that everyone needs every once in a while.  Opening the door to the coffee shop, Eli nodded his head in.  “Well, that’s get that pick me up and get movin!”

Eli had a daily routine.  Wake up, work out, get his coffee, get work done, football practice, sleep, repeat.  It was a boring, repetitive life that he had lived for the last twelve years, and it was something that he didn’t anticipate would change much.  Don’t get him wrong, Eli loved his life.  He had good friends, good kids, a good team; he had a good life.  Was he getting up there? Yes and no.  He was 32, but the most he’s accomplished was when he was 20-ish and got recruited by the NFL.  Sure, that dream ended as quickly as his back had broken, and shortly after his recovery, he moved to Tupelo.  He was still convincing his parents to move there, but they were thriving, so he knew it was unlikely.  He missed his parents and visited them as often as he could, but he had family here, too, so it made things less lonely.

After his morning workout, Eli decided to walk through town, see if there was anyone he could stop by and talk to on his way to coffee.  Coming across the familiar relator building, he figured it wouldn’t hurt to stop by and see if Arielle was in.  He was probably going to see her after school, and hear about her from Adrianna during school, so why know throw another encounter in?

davis came in for some physical eduation classes but he was mostly just the head baseball coach. he didn’t at all have a routine life and most times, he was usually running pretty late but this morning, was different. this morning, he had time to stop for coffee. coffee he didn’t have to make himself, which he was thankful for. he wasn’t a morning person and he hated putting any effort into anything before noon. he was headed toward the coffee shop when he ran right into someone and his eyes averted up toward the male and away from the text message he was sending hadley. he recognized him imediately and offered him a smile, “eli,” he started. “sorry about that. if that’s not a bold good morning, i don’t know what is.” he chuckled and a yawn closely followed. “headed for breakfast?”

Eli had been day dreaming, or something similar to it, thinking about what film he would show in class since it was the end of their section on WWII, and there were a number of films, new and old he could show. Thinking about this, though, caused him to not pay attention to what was going on around him. This caused him to run into someone, but, thankfully it was someone he knew, so it wasn’t as embarrassing. “Davis, hey! Bolder than a cup of Folgers.” He chuckled at the comment before nodding at the coffee house “Sure am, gotta keep that energy going for the day. What has you here? Aren’t you normally asleep in your desk chair til practice?” He poked fun at the man, knowing full well if Eli didn’t have a full schedule of history he’d be happy to be known as the sleeper of the teachers.

He spent the first 8 years of his life in Brighton until his father was offered a job at an American university that was offering nearly triple what he was making, so his family made the trip over the pond. -  Eli was able to adapt to US customs pretty easily, although the terms he used did tend to go over people’s heads, and he has since been able to keep his UK roots while also using American terms for things around him, without confusing them. -  Ever since he was young, Eli. has had an unusual love for sports - unusual because his father was an Astrophysicist and his mother was a mathematician professor. Eli, while highly intelligent and shared the love of math and science with his parents, tended to put more focus on history and sports. -  Thanks to his natural athletic abilities, Eli got into football and basketball at an early age, and spent his 4 years of high school on the Varsity football team as the starting linebacker. His Junior year of college, he was recruited by 12 universities, and shortly after his high school graduation, made the difficult choice of moving from Florida and UCF to Clemson University. -  Eli made sure to focus on his education while pursuing football, and he got his degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in World History. He found history incredibly fascinating, especially the repeats in history and how humans never truly. learned from their history. He was grateful that Clemson gave him an opportunity to pursue both loves. - [tw: injuries] In his final semester of university, at one of their final games, Eli’s worst nightmares came true. He was set to be in the first 12 picks of the draft, he had deals and sponsors, and his back gave out on him, breaking in 3 places and ending his career on the spot. His parents begged him to move back to Florida, but he couldn’t face the humiliation of going back there. That’s when Tupelo High reached out and asked him to coach the offensive line of their football team and fill their open history position for Junior and Senior history. While he loves his career and his kids, he feels like he’s become the epitome of a failed football player, and it eats him up inside.
