“ Umm... Miss? You left your wallet in th’ diner... I thought it would be a fairly big loss for ye. “
starter call?
I just want to hear you say it.
I need you to say it out loud - — tell me I make you PROUD.
I just want to hear you say it - — say it a little louder, please.
❴TELL ME YOU'RE PROUD OF ME.❵
“ protection ?? fuck, sounds official. that’s cool. spent enough time in LA trying to dodge raids and all that b u l l s h i t. guess that’s what i get for keeping my business small … ‘til now that is … good to know i’m not gonna MELT in a jail cell though, “
“ It’s called organised crime for a reason. This is still a small business... but we simply live at a small place. We wouldn’t be able t’ have such influence in a big city like LA... this is the advantage of buying into a business like this. Possibly smaller income but steady. “
starter call?
“ uh, yeah dude, sounds good. i love being appreciated. it’d my favourite, “ things not to do before a business meeting: smoke a bowl of weed and proceed to empty a whole eye dropper. shit. least she wasn’t antsy, she was simply … having a very hard time remaining in the room. eyes keep catching on different objects, before refocusing on the blonde in front of her. geez, he was mean looking … though they all kind of were. was it kosher to ask if his parents were cousins ??
“ oh yeah man, we have all the drugs in LA. coke’s pretty popular, dope too. get a lot of tweakers if you head out towards the desert, but i try to keep in my lane. but … y’know i’m lookin’ to expand man. the west coast’s got enough dealers to … change a light bulb. or shake a stick at. or whatever … but oxy’s no problem, dude. no problem at all. guess people are trying to numb the pain of living out here, right ?? “
no fallon, don’t laugh at your own jokes.
The more she spoke, the more this woman sounded like a joke... was she high? Jesus... what sort of unprofessional behaviour is that? Sure, he sometimes tested products but as he leaned forward, on closer observation her pupils were so dilated he could have thrown a basketball through it. An agitated sigh left him, especially after she decided to insult the people of these lands. Does she think herself so above everyone else with this sort of behaviour? Ridiculous.
He rubbed his chin slowly as he thought the situation through before he finally spoke.
“ I suggest ye go ‘n’ sleep. I hope ye’ve got a room in th’ local motel, that’s th’ only place for... visitors. Because I don’t do business with someone who’s not in th’ right frame of mind. So... tomorrow ye either come back sober and ready t’ talk, or I’m definitely not doing business with ye. You might think we’re all uneducated rednecks here, but I won’t have a business partner who can’t even control herself. I have more integrity than that. Mercer... let her pass. “
At his word, the man at the door stepped aside without a word, still keeping a close eye on her.
Mercer Deacon
The eldest of the Deacon siblings, Mercer probably didn’t quite get the genes for business in the family, he was mostly happy with working as a miner, not having any higher ambitions than to work, bring money home and have a quiet life of his own. But as came Connie’s idea, he didn’t have anything against joining in on the family business, as even though starting a business is not easy, it promised a better life in the long run.
Soon it was obvious though that he didn’t have the talent to make bigger decisions in running the business, but as the idea came to expand the diner into a bar, his function was soon realised as ‘head of security’. As Mercer stands at 6′5″, sometimes even just his presence is enough to keep the guests and business partners in check, though if he needs to step in, whoever is against him will probably suffer quite severe injuries.
A tiny heel impacts the car door minutes after Ari swerves up to (wherever this is) the building. In the city, her individual presence is a speck among thousands - yet elegant style and posture don’t coordinate into where she is now ( and it shows ). Brows knit, beneath manicured nails the frilly lace glued to an invitation seems to laugh, digging into skin further.
Arista groans, but makes an effort to perk when he speaks (though her voice contains a hint of agitation). “Sorry. I was driving through to visit family… but these directions are off.”
( Really off. ‘How can you host a wedding if you can’t tell people where you are’ off. )
Fingering the golden chain around her throat, she takes a seat and tries to ignore the persistent growing ache in her muscles. “Would you mind if I rested here for a little while?”
“ Free country... you do whatever ye want... and I mean... if ye want a coffee or anything... this happens t’ be a diner. “
Wouldn’t really mention the illegal establishment in the back, but she doesn’t really seem the type to want to get drunk in the middle of the day anyway, and thankfully this doesn’t seem like a ruse of an undercover cop either. He takes a long drag of his cigarette, she looks posh though... possibly has some money, though currently that makes little difference to him.
“ Place is run by my family so... do ye want anythin’? Maybe we can even help with directions. “
That could at least mean that the outsider leaves as soon as possible.
@coalheart + criminal activity
“ well fuck, if alcohol’s illegal, wouldn’t wanna know what’d happen if I got busted, “ not like she walked around with coke on her all the time, but she wasn’t subtle about her business.
“ Ye don’t have t’ worry about that... for now. Ye’re under our protection as long as ye’re here. Th’ local sheriff been notified of yer presence. Otherwise... well... it would be nasty. I do believe th’ local authorities strike down these sort of activities with an iron fist. “

“ We appreciate it greatly - my siblings and I - that ye came down all th' way here t’ talk business. “
His eyes are scrutinising but his words are as courteous as he can manage. This is H I S side of the business, the more hidden part where the Deacon siblings extended their reach. OxyContin holds great power in the South, many desperate people reach for it as a relief, a getaway from all the troubles, and what sort of a person would he be if he denied that relief from the people he cared about. But then again, he could probably extend this courtesy to others.
“ I know ye probably have fancier drugs out there in th’ big city, but oxy is a gold mine, I can assure ye and we can supply plenty. “
Mercer, the eldest was towering over the door, arms crossed and merely observing. He didn’t need to concern himself with the... finer details of business, his presence was enough to weigh in.
The Brookside Mine Strike, Harlan County War 1973
he knows a hint of hostility when he hears it, but he’s off the clock ( for now ), but it’s to be expected. how he found himself in harlan was a mystery to even him, but he went where the path took him, and after the travel, a little leisure was needed. he found himself here, after a little digging, since finding drink in many southern counties was hard without some footwork. his own state held only one dry area, but he’d traveled most of the south in his youth to visit family scattered around the country and this was hardly his first encounter.
“ just lookin’ for something to settle my nerves, sir, ain’t no need to get uppity, “ ironic choice of words, given the low growl from the other, “ if this ain’t the place, then say so i suppose, then i’ll best be on my way, “
“ Well... no need t’ rush now, is there? “
Slow Southern drawl falls from his lips as a small smile twitches at the side of his lips, that’s usually the most he manages, his siblings would almost call it cheerful. He places a napkin in front of him, an invitation to sit.
“ I’m sure we have yer poison here, no offence was meant but... we simply like t’ keep th’ existence of this place on th’ low side, it’s a simple place for th’ miners t’ relax after a hard days’ work. I’m sure ye have nothing against it. “
