Artist john carroll from Manchester came down to the Shed for a couple of days to try out the studio in preparation of his week long residency in February.
His main concerns were being able to etch using aquatints, and wether printmaking would fit into his current practice based around large scale drawings and pastel works. But he was delighted when he pulled the first print from the plate and straight away could see it added another dimension to his work. Not that he's new to etching, having done plenty during his time at the royal academy, but this is new work being made in a new environment.

We can't wait to have John back, it's good to have artists around who's attention to detail, love of process and hard work ethic is inspiring to all.
John carroll will be doing a one week residency at the coal shed studio in February, with an artists talk about his work. More details and exact dates to be announced soon.
