With Beltane on Friday and Witches’ night the prior evening, I thought it a good time to revisit this print, The Burning Rite, that symbolizes the transitions between both the light and dark half of the year. The ancient Celtic fire festival of Beltane signifies the beginning of the light half of the year, whereas its counterpart, Samhain, ushers in the dark half. Both are times when the liminal veil between worlds is at its thinnest, making all magical workings even more powerful. The Burning Rite is an illustration that pertains to this transition— a time of balance and the turning of the wheel. The figure on the right is the personification of the light half of the year- active, assertive, and fertile. The figure on the left is the personification of the dark half of the year- passive, reserved, and introspective. They burn Elder leaves among the crucible fire to signify the transference of power. Elder is a plant of regeneration that represents death and rebirth. As you can see, it sprouts from the ground on the right side of the drawing to signify the growing season and it is harvested on the left to signify the reaping season. The divine crucible and its fire represent the magical potency at this time as well as the purifying and protective bale fires during Beltane and Samhain. 🔥 Handmade screenprint available in the shop {PoisonApplePrintshop.com} Link in profile 🔥 #poisonappleprintshop #beltane #beltaine #firefestival #wheeloftheyear #divinecrucible #divinecauldron #witchcraft #elder #witchesnight #hexennacht #screenprint #witchy #magicalrite #witches #printmaking #allseeingeye #firemagic https://www.instagram.com/p/B_h7qFSHbVp/?igshid=7h3332q1jeeh
