Been struggling on and off these last few months with depression and trying to stop some unhealthy habits ><. On top of that dealing with a divorce and loss of income couple with bills piling up. An analogy for trigger warnings and safe spaces for cosplayers.

A trigger warning is like someone asking before they take a picture of you.  Do they have to?  Not in public spaces, like if you're wearing your cosplay on the street.  But it's polite and gives you an opportunity to prepare for or even decline the photo.

A safe space is like a rest zone for cosplayers.  Going there does not mean you hate getting your picture taken, or that you hate talking about divisive topics.  But it does give you some much needed respite that you might otherwise have difficulty finding.

I've always been a huge advocate of free speech, especially offensive speech.  As an American, it's an integral part of my approach to a strong society.  But I also believe that, especially with the increasing pace of communication, there's nothing wrong with taking measure to let us better manage the messages we receive.
