It's the same version. Cool that it's on an official release now though.
Cobra Starship - Tainted Love (Soft Cell Cover) (TRL, 2007)
Some very crunchy partial video of the band covering Soft Cell's Tainted Love during a broadcast for Total Request Live (TRL)'s Prom Week special. As far as I know, this is the only footage of them playing this song on the broadcast, and the only time they've covered this song.
wow I totally forgot about it
Cobra Starship's Buzznet Videos - Alex the Magician (late 2007/early 2008?)
As the band used their Buzznet account, they gradually began to introduce more skits in their video uploads, along with the more traditional update vlogs or concert videos/interviews. You can see the seeds of what would later go on to become CobraCam in skits such as this one.
Sadly, this is also the last Buzznet video of theirs that I had saved before the website was purged. It really breaks my heart that nobody else seems to have much of this stuff saved; truly, what I've shown you all here is just a fraction of the total uploads to that account. Still, it's better to have some of it uploaded than none of it, and so I hope you've all enjoyed this rare glimpse back into the band's early days!
Cobra Starship - Monkey Magic (2009)
(Ten seconds of silence have been inserted into the beginning of this track to dodge Tumblr's copyright detection. Mind your volume!)
This song was included exclusively on the German deluxe iTunes release of Hot Mess, and has never been made available for streaming via Spotify. It's a cover of the song of the same name by the prolific Japanese rock band Godiego, which was originally released in 1978 and was used as the theme for the anime series Saiyuki/Monkey.
I don't think anyone in the band ever shared why they chose a 1970s J-rock/anime theme to cover. It's always been my personal suspicion that this particular song was Ryland's idea, as he's spoken before and since about being a big anime fan, but we can't know for sure!

Thank goodness, I was starting to worry that it wasn't happening anymore
Cobra Starship's Buzznet Videos - Gabe, Ryland, and Alex's Acapella Cover of Hey Mr DJ (late 2006/early 2007)
In some early interviews around 2007, Gabe said that Ryland and Alex did a lot of the instrumental/musical heavy lifting during the songwriting process after they joined the band (the first album was written almost entirely by Gabe on his own), while Gabe tended to contribute the majority of the songs' lyrics. This video offers an early example of the close rapport and the complementary musicianship that the three of them quickly formed.
(Also, though you can only briefly hear him in the beginning of the video, Nate was the cameraman for this particular recording.)
Cobra Starship's Buzznet Videos - The Onstage Game Plan (late 2006-early 2007)
Another video from the band's now-purged Buzznet account. Though I'm not certain of when exactly this video was uploaded, it was very likely in late 2006 or very early in 2007, as Elisa's name is still listed on the chalkboard in place of Victoria.
