Music Video: Pharrell and Daft Punk - “Gust of Wind” directed by Edgar Wright
DEAR G I R L at The O2 Arena - 10/10/14
So last week London got lucky (pardon the pun!) as Pharrell’s Dear G I R L Tour rolled into The O2 Arena for two consecutive nights…. After continuously being mesmerised by Pharrell’s energetic performances this year (Brookyn Bowl, Wireless, iTunes) going to one show just wasn’t acceptable so on my list was a double dose of Skateboard P and I couldn’t be more excited. Let me tell you all how incredible this show was because I don’t think you all understand. It’s amazing to see how P has come leaps and bounds as solo performer and how he completely captivated the arena from the start to finish. The camaraderie between Pharrell and his female troupe a.k.a the BAES was apparent throughout the show and contributed largely towards the fun and uplifting vibe that the show had. I think at times, more eyes could have been on the BAES rather than the main attraction himself. Highlights you may be wondering? Well as many times as I’d seen P this year, there were a couple of album tracks that he hadn’t chosen to perform until now! Let’s talk about the Gush performance, first of all I am in love with the choreography to the beginning of that performance, second of all.. I was serenaded by Pharrell singing the first verse to me. It’s not every day you get Pharrell asking ‘do you wanna get dirty girlllll?'. Gush is definitley one of my favourites from the album and the live version just made me love it even more. It was clear much of the audience was looking forward to hearing the classics and that they got in abundance. Sometimes it's easy to forget how many hits Pharrell has been a part of until he hits you with a medley that includes 'Hot In Herre', 'I Just Wanna Love You' and 'Pass The Course. The crowd went crazy and the whole arena transformed into a club environment with everybody jumping up and down. There was more to come when N.E.R.D's very own Shae Haley entered the stage to perform alongside Skateboard P. This is when things got slightly interesting. If you've been to or seen an N.E.R.D show before, you probably know that audience participation is key to their set and the stage was soon was filled with male testosterone during 'Rockstar.' Male fans continue to be plucked out by Pharrell during 'Lapdance' and strutted and two stepped around the stage. I knew what song was coming up next and to say I was bricking it was a slight understatement. I can't believe I'm writing this but I was one of the lucky girls who got picked to go on stage 'She Wants To Move' and being the non dancer I am, made my way to the back and just enjoyed myself. Being on stage is such an amazing experience, I honestly forgot how many people I was in front of after a minute and just enjoyed the moment albeit 'awkwardly. As I was plotting my escape from the stage at end of the performance, I was dragged to the front of the stage and introduced by Pharrell as one of his 'No.1 fans' before I got a raptorous applause a big hug from the man himself. #surreal The rest of the show was admittedly a blur but 'Gust Of Wind' live is just something else, I'm so in love with the beauty of that track and could have happily listened to Pharrell perform it over and over. I love that before the final performance, he always addresses the audience with a positive message and as he closed with the euphoric 'Happy' I couldn't help but feel on top of the world.
Every now and then, I find a track that I cannot stop listening to and right now, it's 'Insincerely Yours' by Lily Allen. Sheezus is a great album and I find myself regularly rotating several of the tracks!
Wireless Festival is heading to Birmingham this year for three days of full on musical madness. Drake, Bruno Mars and my personal fave Kanye West are the festival headliners along with a whole host of other names across the three days such as Outkast, Rudimental and Pharrell Williams. If you need any more information or want to snap up some tix head to www.wirelessfestival.co.uk You can also check out the lineup poster including the new additions via the following link: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bm0dL3SCAAAK6F4.jpg
This song is one of my favourites from Pharrell's latest album 'G.I.R.L' and the perfect choice for the next single off the record. I really love the video and watching Pharrell's creativity come to life.
I really dig this duo known as 'Moonrags.' Check them out!
It feels like like I'm having a love affair with this song... I'm intoxicated with this song!
In September, I was lucky enough to assist on a production shoot with Rebecca Ferguson at Air Studios. I’m a big fan of the singer but as it was for work duties, I wasn’t able to bask into my ‘fangirl’ mode as much as I’d have liked to naturally. Before the shooting with the audience, I was lucky enough to watch her rehearse several times instantly falling in love with her effortless and uplifting cover of Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’and subsequently wasn’t able to get it out of my head. Just a few days ago I attended her exclusive gig at Under The Bridge, where she performed ‘Roar’ again to the delight of the audience and has since uploaded her performance from Air for us all to enjoy! Don’t get me wrong, I unashamedly love the original from Katy Perry but there’s just something about Rebecca…
Inequality promises That it's here to stay. Always trust the injustice 'Cause it's not going away Welcome back Lily Allen!
Little Mix have really surprised me on their new album 'Salute.' The record is a certified smash and I really feel that every track could be a pop hit. The girls have really come a long way for their XFactor days and I really feel they've found a niche in their 'urban pop' sound. This is one my favourite tracks on the CD..'Boy' is reminiscent of old skool Destiny's Child and the girls sound in their element.
