Return of Were-Rabbit & it's related loose posts
Return of Were-Rabbit Post Center
This is in chronological order, so the loose posts will be inserted inbetween chapter releases. For clarity, a chapter will be blue and listed as its name (I.E chapter 1 -- A Comfortable Routine)
I will include your asks so future viewers can get extra context. They'll be purple.
The first post - Includes some snippets from the first draft of the story. Future readers may notice that only the first paragraph made it into A Comfortable Routine. The latter two came from a time where the chapter was a lot longer than it is now, and covered the Anti Pesto shift - Wallace's accident that colors the rest of the story. So, you might see these ideas again in chapter two.
This is just a ramble post, but I'd thought it'd be nice to include it.
A preview of a later version of A Comfortable Routine - Looking back, I'm a bit apologetic for how short this chapter was, but I was all I could get out at the time.
An ask about the fic's location - AO3 btw!
A post revolving around plot points - points like there being more than one organizer for the competition (Which will be very important in the future!), the townsfolk's perspective the Were-Rabbit incidents, and a summary of the fic's plot.
Short update before release
A Comfortable Routine - Right after a storm devastates Wigan, Wallace goes on a hunt for mischevious rabbits.
Reveal of Pea's species - He's a Flemish!
Snippets of chapter 2 - Long Road to Recovery - First mention of Totty!
Another sneak peek of the next chapter:
That's when he heard that signature, cordial giggle. He turned to find her disguised in typical gardener's garb. Her curly orange locks spilled from a weighty sunhat, culminating in a squash-like ponytail tied off with a brown ribbon. Years of harsh sunlight took a toll on her overalls, having taken on a sage color with its former vibrant greens relegated to the edges. Together, the outfit fought hard to convince you that she was just your average civilian; just another person to pass on your daily walk. All that work however, went down the drain as soon as you saw her face.
“Totty!” Wallace exclaimed. Even Pea’s weight couldn’t slow him down. He leapt over to her side, spooking Mrs. Gabberly.
“Whew—You know, some of us would kill for energy like that,” Gabberly spouted as she wiped down her shirt. “Anyhow, I should get going. I’m sure you two would appreciate the privacy.” Gabberly continued. She shut the awning and disappeared into her home.
Wallace was flustered. He felt they weren’t that obvious. But, that certainty dwindled when he realised how visible his excitement was. He took a moment to regain his composure before returning his focus to Totty. She carried a straw basket that faintly smelled of cinnamon. Her blushing indicated she was embarrassed as well, until she spotted Pea.
“My—you’ve caught a flemish giant!” Totty said. She rubbed Pea’s paws, earning a few chuckles from the rabbit. “Knowing you, his name’s Pea isn’t it?”
Wallace gained a sly smile. “Right on the money.”
“If only your humor was as creative as your inventions.”
The two shared a laugh. For just a brief moment in the bright blue afternoon, the storm and its effects were easy to forget. Perhaps if it never happened, they would be at Tottington Hall right now. Him, Gromit, and Totty… and Hutch too if he was able. Drinking chamomile tea together as they discussed matters like the sanctuary, the garden, or even frivolous gossip. Of course, the trashed streets remained. No amount of daydreaming would make the mess fade away. With her around though, the long road to recovery seemed much more bearable.
Redesigning Chrysanthemum again!
So, I’m loving your fanfic “Return of the Were-Rabbit” and Pea is just so cute! 🥰
Is he a Flemish Giant Rabbit?
Yea! It's nice that someone picked up on that.
You know, Flemishes aren't a native breed to the UK --- so why would there be a wild one? It's a twist for the next chapter 😉
(Further research shows they might actually be. Nevertheless, I don’t want to rewrite half of my current plot 😭)
to any of my mutuals who are getting spammed with weird comments --- I'm so sorry. My little sis has found my tumblr and is being really annoying about it!
Working on chapter 2 of the story again after taking a break. This is my first project like this and I don't want to overexert already. Here's doodles of the Were-Rabbit being adorable + my oc. I love him!
Finished my gift for @cloudkittysblog! Old!Wallace's relationship with Toodles is very heartwarming.
Many things came with the outset of June...
Finally!!!!! First chapters out, tell me how you feel about it!
Can't believe this blog's already a year old!
Anyways, I decided to make chapter 1 of the fic a lot shorter by cutting half of it for chapter two. Its almost done, I just need to add a little more introspection from Wallace as he is the main character in this (For the most part, I'm trying to keep this as third person limited for reasons you'll see much later!)
Release soon for real this time!
Some plot points in the fic!:
This year's competition takes place in October thanks to the storm destroying everyone's gardens. With it being both vegetable & Halloween season, it's no wonder that the Were-rabbit incident is fresh again in everyone's minds...
--This gives me the opportunity to write all about the townspeople’s perspective on the beast - & how it gets to Wallace. Plus, how some exploit the beast’s notoriety, especially when the competition looms near. (This plot was somewhat inspired by themrswallace's COTWR reboot. Check them out too!)
As for another point, Totty can no longer manage the competition like she used to before opening the sanctuary. She's just too busy now. So, Totty looked around town for help --- & she's found someone willing to be a co-organizer, someone who wishes for their involvement to be a grand reveal.
--A little hint~ they have unfinished business with the Were-Rabbit.
Finally, It would be weird to not talk about the main story. Basically, it's a "Where are they now?" type of tale where we meet up again with everyone after a year... or almost a year considering it takes place over months (5 in specific). Wallace thinks he hasn't changed much, Gromit’s full focus is on his garden, Totty feels comfortable moving out of the "noble royal" box her relationship with Victor forced her into (more on that in future chapters), and Hutch is different. Can't elaborate.
A problem arises when a series of suspicious events works up everyone into believing the beast has returned. Wallace knows this isn't true --- if it was, he wouldn't be here --- but as things progress, he starts to doubt his own eyes. Even worse, he has to struggle with these worries all while comforting everyone else. After a point, it starts to feel like lying...
--So yea, it's Wallace-centric. The story will revolve around his feelings on the Were-Rabbit & him getting over the fact that the incident didnt leave him as unscathed as previously thought. Also, his connection to the townsfolk & his fear of doing them wrong.
I'll try not to shaft Gromit. I'll have him playing detective & he may even have a storyline with Hutch. Anyways, that will be all for now. Thanks for reading!
April Day (Shine Rendering)
When that fic is done where are you gonna post it? I'd like to read it lmao
ao3! As for the name, I can't decide between the more punny one or the more basic, but relevant one. I might go the two titles route (Like; This)
Anyways, I am still working steadily on that fic. Currently, the first chapter is split into three mini-chapters: The first is for introduction, the second for characterization, & the third for kicking off the main plot. The first is technically done, but it's still in revision phase. Here's the first few paragraphs of that.
The timing couldn’t be better, surprising considering how early they had started. There was an entire season to go before the competition. Many of the crowd-winning vegetables were so young in their infancy that replacing them wasn't much of a burden, so what was with all the rush? That's what Gromit questioned. Why all this rush to set up the alarm systems and traps when what was being protected wasn't worth…well, protecting?
That all stopped a few days ago when West Wallaby bore witness to the biggest storm in its history. Over 100 mm of rain. 100 km/h winds. Raging on for three days straight. Needless to say, the vegetables didn't survive. They were completely uprooted and washed away into the streets, exposed for all to see—and weep. The greenhouse plants weren't spared either. Flying debris left severe cracks in the structures, ruining the deliberate conditions inside.
Worse of all, the storm made the soil too oversaturated to try again. Everyone's progress got wiped and they absolutely couldn’t restart until it dried up, which could easily take days. Completely disastrous for the vegetable competition; Some of the best crops were only ready the week of. A delay had to happen lest the organisers wanted an angry mob on their hands.
But those issues could wait. Something else needed immediate attention. The destruction that discouraged humans thrilled the rabbits, who were gearing up for the biggest feast of their lives. The pesky things were so distracted by the buffet waiting for them that they had little care about their usual worries. Worries like survival, predators, and most importantly, pest control. Knowing that, Wallace decided that it was finally time to start up their “midnight services”. Just like the rabbits, he was going to make the most out of this occasion.
~~~+~~~
Leaves fluttered as it passed. Scattered vegetables crushed under its tires. Lights switched on as curious onlookers tried to catch a glimpse. Its white HOP-2-It licence plate glistened in the moonlight, so did its brand-new blue and yellow paint job. Barrelling down the streets was the Austin A35.
Wallace chuckled giddily as he drove. “Thirty-two rabbits caught in one night, that might be a new record for us lad!” His free hand caressed Gromit, who sluggishly nodded in his lap. The van’s soft rattle soon lured him back to sleep. “Don't worry, this is the last house for the night. You'll be back to that warm bed of yours soon.”
Gromit was usually the most proactive of the two. Sniffing out rabbits was his thing, and so was cornering them. However, he spent all his energy cleaning his ruined garden, so it was up to Wallace to handle everything tonight.
Quiet tapping noises emerged from the back. Attached was one of his proudest inventions: The Bun-Vac 6000. Trapped inside were the rabbits he'd caught. All thirty-two of them, thumping their paws on the hard metal floor. A display of bitterness Wallace found adorable. Looking at them made him quite proud. After all, his intuition had been right for once.
The house was further up the road. It looked just like the rest: paved with red bricks, covered by a bluish gray roof, and isolated by a green and white, wood-brick hybrid fence. Wallace shifted Gromit back to his seat. The pest grasper had an inconspicuous red button next to where his hand rested. “I'll be quick.”
A few rain clouds remained long after the showers. Wallace carefully hopped over the gate, dampening the sound of his fall. Mud stuck to his boots as he walked. During this shift, he came across many devastated gardens that evoked sympathy. Ms. Lovitt's garden was no different. He somewhat knew her. She was possibly the best gardener (who wasn't a dog) the town had to offer. People often paid her to turn their gardens around, and you could tell they did because her style was so distinct. He always questioned the legality, but no one has been disqualified for it yet.
Anyhow, about the rake lodged in her shed: Removing it revealed that so much water had seeped inside that mold was guaranteed to take over. Pumpkin sprouts lay sprawled all over the grass, their seeds still intact. One adult pumpkin remained, but its edges looked fuzzy, so it was probably a loss.
He scanned the rake, the shed, the sprouts, again and again for what felt like hours. Each go revealed nothing. The rabbit here must’ve been clever and ran off as soon as they heard the van pulling up. If that happened, then he had to go. Every minute he stayed could’ve gone to searching other houses. Plus, it was no use waiting for a gon-
The fuzzy pumpkin! Thinking of it, didn't it look kind of… brown? He spun to the spot again. Gone. How'd he miss that? He was ready to beat himself up when a movement near the house caught his eye. Wallace turned—and nearly jumped out of his trousers...
Not at all. I don't want to forget controls!
Baby
God, the computer idea was genius. I've already got the first half of the chapter done! The bigger screen does wonders!
Anyways, with this pace I think I'll have something ready before the end of this month if school doesn't get in the way. I'll give a little hint of what this story is about: the wrath of a mob is scarier than any horror monster.
