sometimes u just have to say ‘tragic’ and move on
idk why ppl think they can talk to me as soon as I enter a room ?? I need time to rest, gather my thoughts, transition, figure out who I am in that moment..

This white patriarchal system that run this planet is reliant on black women being and remaining insecure. If someone who is supposedly “bottom of the totem pole” is more confident and proud than the ppl who believe they are on top because they are white, light or male then the whole power structure no longer makes sense and falls apart.
That’s why any praise sisters give themselves it’s quickly interrupted and derailed by someone who isn’t black woman and sometimes even by black women who’ve learned to internalize this misogynoir. They need you to be at the bottom so they can feel better than you, better than anyone. A happy, proud blk woman aggravates the superiority complex in everyone.
When you are washing the dishes, washing the dishes must be the most important thing in your life. Just as when you are drinking tea, drinking tea must be the most important thing in your life. Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the whole world revolves—slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future. Live the actual moment. Only this actual moment is life.

do black girls dream of romance and being swept off their feet? like in the corny hollywood romance novel way? it’s sad but i’ve never really thought of those things as being for black girls…i’m not even the type to dream about stuff like that but is that bc i was taught to be “practical” about love/relationships???
ya know even when we do get romance films or romantic comedies they’re like “think like a man” and basically tell us to sacrifice all of our standards for love.
we don’t get the whole tall, dark, handsome fantasy romances…for some reason ours have to be based in reality with an asterisk like
Black Girl Romance*
*don’t be too big for your britches, if you find a semi-decent man stick with him and hold on for dear life no matter what he does!
OR
*no one will ever love or care for you (mentally, spiritually, emotionally, financially) so you should be happy with any level of romance shown to you, even if it’s a half-assed attempt (that’s obviously just for sex) at least he’s trying!
“i was taught to be ‘practical’ about love/relationships” THANK YOU
like seriously the narrative is you’re lucky to get anyone at all with your ugly black ass (especially if you’re dark and/or fat) so throw every ounce of emotional and physical labor into it and ignore everything that makes you unhappy just to be able to say you have someone because many other black women don’t
and it’s a narrative i’m still struggling desperately against like i don’t want to settle guys i really don’t but sometimes you just get so lonely and frustrated that you want some - any - attention at all
